RIP Jake. This is a great loss to the Reef Community we all owe you a lot. Thank you for all the knowledge, we are all better Reefers because of you and your lessons will continue to aspire for generations.
The title of this video actually sums up his reefing philosophy really well, an awesome tank thrives on the basics ,with Jake smiling and the corals thriving as the last shot. RIP Jake, you're truly a legend 😢
Really going to miss his videos. Nobody compares to his love and passion of the hobby. Thank you for your teachings and knowledge. Your articles and videos and research is priceless in the reefing community. RIP Mr. Jake Adams A Reefing Icon.
There has been a few constants in life over the last few years. One was always looking forward to Reef Therapy and Reef Builders videos. I would hold off all week from watching new content and then on a Friday night after everyone was asleep I would crack a beer in front of my tank and watch the vids and then follow up with the commentary from Reef Therapy.. This was my private temple which helped ease the stress of day to day life. When summer hit, with more time spent outside, Saturday afternoons were for smoking/barbequing and listening to Reef Therapy. Jake made for great entertainment, and sometimes when things weren't heading in the right direction in my tank, a good pat on the back for that "try again you can get this right". It's been said so many times in the last few days so no need to repeat, beyond the knowledge and respect, Jake's content was a ritual. An end of the day comfy chair to rest in and let the challenges of life disappear, if just for a few hours. I will miss that. God speed Jake Adams and thank you.
RIP Jake. You taught so many so much. This is a huge loss for the whole reefing community. Still trying to wrap my head around it. So young and so full of knowledge. I'm just in such a deep state of shock and sadness.
You have been an inspiration not only in north america, but in the entire world. Here from spain, you have been a huge reference for methodology, husbandry and coral classifcation. A huge respect for your work and dedication. A huge loss of a LEGEND that will keep inspiring decades to come. You will be greately remembered. RIP Jake. Thank u GOD.
I can’t believe it. I never met him, unfortunately, but I was incredibly inspired by him. I had a tank that was set up for a long time but I sort of lost interest. Then I stumbled upon Reef Therapy. I went from a 20 gallon nano with one fish to a 50 gallon with five fish and awesome protein skimmer and with lots of coral frags. I listened to reef therapy almost every time I went to the fish store. I didn’t know Jake but I have spent a lot of time hearing his voice and watching and reading the content he makes. I’m currently freelancing writing for AlgaeBarn right now. I put so much of what I’ve learned from him into what I write. Jake had such a great influence in the hobby. I’m gonna do some good tank maintenance for him. Best wishes to his family and friends. Please know that Jake is incredibly loved.
I have been out of reefing for about 8 months now, I am in the process of building a new house and just had to rehome my tank to give it the care that it needed. I do miss it terribly, I decided to look at some videos today to get my reefing fix and I see this terrible news...Jake guided me through my reefing journey from beginning to end. I really would not have had any of the success I did without his videos. RIP Jake :(
Hey Jake, your passion for life and the aquarium hobby is infectious. This hobby can feel nerdy at times and my friends rarely understood my obsession. But when I watched your videos, you made me feel like I was not alone. I was looking forward to watching your content for years to come. Really sucks that you are gone. Anyways, much love brother, RIP. - A friend you never met
Thanks for the honesty, love to hear what's going well, what you hope to improve, and what isn't going well. I just hung out at a friends for 15 minutes hearing about this tank.
Jake could have picked any hobby, focus, and he would have been loved just as much. Just a great guy with wonderful energy and attitude. I'm glad he was here to share a hobby and the earth with. My condolences to his family, I can only imagine the loss of such a great guy. All over the internet from forums to reddit, people are honoring their memories of him together.
I use a standard 55 gallon aquarium as a peninsula mixed reef cuz i love peninsula tanks so much. Not much foreground/background space in a 12 inch wide area with rock work running down the middle... Dont know if anybody else got the Printed Reef ad during the video but i love their stuff. I first got their light diffuser/shade for the AI Primes and then i got the frag stands for the rock and their sand stands too. If youre like me and just setup some dry rock without breaking them up or anything and didnt have much room for shelves or anything these little stands give the tsnk the look that it was more strategically set up by allowing you to place corals almost anywhere safely without worry they will fall. My go to LFS has been remodeling and hasnt had much SPS for a few months. So i need to add eome more stucks to the top of my reef to even the look and mix out.
There will never be another Jake; he will always be missed. I am grateful for all that he did and feel so fortunate to have so many great videos to remember him and his work.
What? 😢. One of the reefing communities highly respected sources for knowledge and experience. Always inspired after watching a Jake Adams video or presentation. Rest easy brother. Condolences to Jake’s family and friends...
Such tragic and sad news to hear you're gone Jake, have loved your videos since i started getting into reefing. Sending love to your family and friends, you will be truly missed.
so weird to think this is his last video.. i cant think of a single person whose style of fishkeeping hasnt been influenced by jake in one way or another, myself included.. difficult shoes to fill, indeed. whatever the case may be, his infectious passion for this hobby is something that really kept me hooked on every video he made, i couldnt help but smile along with him. he really did know how to just exude that energy into a space. rest easy, jake.
This is a great example of the proper application of LED fixtures, covering as much as surface area they can to achieve great results. This is what the Europeans do too! Those Acro Optics are what every LED fixture should look for. The growth is an example of what we should aim in terms of building a reef tank (to become real reef builders)! One of the latest goals Jake had to bring back some of the essences of this hobby. Well done, man! Very hard to accept that you are gone, Jake! Let's be strong, folks! God bless all!
@reefbuilders I experienced the same with one of my Zebrasoma (a Z. Desjardinii) a few years back. I caought it earlier but managed to reverse it by soaking my NLS Algaemax, Ocean Nutrition formula 2 and Dr Bassleer fishfood pellets in Aquaforest Fish V and Red Sea reef energy AB+ (alternating between AF and RE) After 4 months you couldnt tell that the fish was sick. Food for thought ;)
Damn the RD looking amazing! I got a frag from someone who got a piece from that tank and after a year it’s thin and spindly and likes to get fragged by the fish. Think it might need a little more direct flow to get the density. Still my fave acro in the tank by far
I can't image that we couldn't see you again in the new video. Thank you for the contribution you have done and you inspired me in this hobby. Rest in peace, Jake.
Finally after years and years of reefing I’m finally at rap for the first time all weekend and I managed to reference reef builders waaaaaaay 2 many times while explaining to some of the legendary reefers here how I’m aware of their amazing systems. TWO WORDS , JAKE-ADAMS! U already kno ☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
Love seeing this system tho Jake! Cheers bro and thank you for keeping me up so date over the years! It was really cool to see how mentioning reef builders could steer a conversation into a nice direction 👍
I've just heard the news and really hoped it was just a rumour. * I'm absolutely shocked and saddened by the loss of a true pioneer and an inspiration to thousands of people around the world. Rest easy Jake, know that you left this world a better place through your work, your educating and your boundless enthusiasm for the aquatic world. Sincere Condolences to his family and friends, he will be truly missed. *
As always, super impressive and thank you for sharing. My bare bottom frag tank gets a lot of crud on the floor. The floor on your tank looks immaculate. Just normal maintenance or is there something like increased flow or anything that might help with it?
Great build Jake, loved seeing you at aquashella. Is there a video on kalkwasser reactors. I believe it’s a pretty simple concept but I’m sure there are tricks to executing it well.
Outstanding tank & presentation ! What is used to control Nitrates & Phosphates then ? Did I miss something please ? I heard they were monitored and controlled but by what ?
I'm on reef2reef a little bit each day and its no wonder that its a challenge. Its overcomplicated with additives and enough filtration for a sewage reclaimation plant. One must leave room for water and stop trying to beat nature. The goal of beating the cycles is couterproductive and a road to failure. Pour this in for an instant reef tank is a real killer.
This doesn’t feel real Omgosh I can honestly say one of the best in the hobby his passion and dedication is amazing and very inspiring RIP prayers to you and your love ones
Absolutely heart breaking to hear that Jake is no longer with us I have been watching and reading the reef builders website along time. May he rest in peace.
Jake adams has been my help for all these years i still watch his videos a lot and learned from him too how to take care for acroporas and reef animals Rest in peace now he is with heavenly father snd jesus as an angel
Great video and great fish tank! Might it be possible to get the names from all the fancy montiporas you have in there? I have identified the "easier" ones by listening and by their appearance (M. digitata, capita, samarensis, setosa, stellate, "Superman"). Edit: more names
Have u guys tried feeding the tangs strictly live plant matter like romaine or bok choy instead of dried dead algae sheets? I don't use any of that for my tangs only romaine or bok choy never had an issue with zebrasoma tangs in all my years of keeping fish especially that family of tangs. It's worth a try imo.
