The best part is that’s actual CONAN DOYLE SHERLOCK CANON because Sherlock Holmes was always doing (offscreen) favors for not just the Queen but all of the great royal houses of Europe. So as a result Holmes could pull out cards like “hey Your Majesty remember when someone tried to blackmail your daughter and ruin her betrothal to the prince of Norway? I didn’t take a cent for that job but do you think you could look at this for me?” He could do stuff like that. It’s great.
It's what got me to finally buckle down and read through all of the Doyle stories when I had wanted to do it for years. I'm up to the first story of The Return of Sherlock Holmes and have been thoroughly enjoying it.
I'm not a fan of reading myself but reading the first Sherlock Holmes novel after playing this game has been fun because of the "Ohhh, so that's what the game is referencing about" moments.
I will say, for a game with such strong themes of corrupt authority figures, going around them to an even higher, non-corrupt authority figure seems like a bit of a cop out, but the sheer absurdity of the whole situation carries it.
While I love the Ace Attorney series, I have to say that GAA is probably the culmination of everything Shu Takumi was aiming for when he realized he was doing more than a one-off, then when he realized he was doing more than a trilogy. I'm looking forward to CrystAAHHL playing more AA games, but I really, *really* want to see her play Ghost Trick, because THAT game does not skip a beat at ALL.
Is Ghost Trick really that good? I've yet to try it out someday. Speaking of Ghost Trick, a friend of mine also recommended a game similar to Ghost Trick (his words not mine) named Murdered: Soul Suspect. Good game, I'll tell you.
@@RenShinomiya121 Ghost Trick is awesome. While gameplay is different from Ace Attorney, Takumi's humor, heart, and storytelling twistiness are very recognizable. And I stand by my statement that the ending is one of my favorites that doesn't involve fourth-wall twistiness the way a handful of my other favorite VNesque endings do. (TGAAC also now falls in there; AA3 and AA5 are strong contenders but aren't clear frontrunners the way GTPD and TGAAC are.)
@@RenShinomiya121 murdered soul suspect is like a knock-off Ghost Trick. You should really play it because I think it is the self contained 1 game masterpiece of Shu Takumi
Out of all of his work on the ace attorney series, Apollo justice is the weakest. It’s not as bad as people say it is, but it is far from his best. This, as well as his work on the original trilogy ties for me. That’s how much I enjoy the series, I can’t rank anything better than the others.
The revelation that Sholmes had really just been screwing around the whole goddamn game is just like so goddamn in character it infuriates me that I didn't realise it sooner, of course he would! And not only for Herlock Sholmes, for pretty much every adaptation of Sherlock Holmes this is in character, dammit!
My headcanon is that he acted dumb on purpose the whole time to train Ryunosuke in the art of deduction so he'd be ready to get to the heart of the matter in court
That was obvious ever since case 2 from the first game. At least for me. His line hints that he always held lot of information and every case he’s investigating happens to be related to the one you have… that’s how OP his deduction are.
My headcannon is that Iris actually heard Mikotoba's story through the bunny walkie talkie, and that's why she said she didn't care about her father. She probably was shocked, but didn't want the others to worry. That's why she was so insistent on Barok coming to the party. Maybe Mikotoba will get a second apologetic pheasant. The line "I don't think it matters what his name is or where he's from" really nails it in. Having a crush on your Uncle would also be real weird.
Can we talk about how awesome the "TESTIFY! TESTIFY!" scene is. Feels like such a powerful moment, so hype. Also, I LOVE the scene in the credits of Soseki and Rei defending in court. It's such a dumb chaotic pairing and it's great.
I held it together til Iris called Sholmes Daddy. Then I started ugly crying and didn't stop. I beat the game two weeks ago, send help, I am so dehydrated
Im so glad to see that you truly enjoyed this game CrystAAHHL. I can’t wait to not only see when you not only begin your eventual play through of Ace Attorney but eventually your full Herlock Sholmes dance video as well.
Now I _really_ want to see you play the rest of the Ace Attorney games. Because let me tell you, you are going to ship a certain _other_ defense attorney and prosecutor SO. DAMN. HARD. And you're gonna love it.
This is a masterpiece of localization. It had to be so precise to make it all work so well. Japanese is not a precise language when translating to English...
The difference between bad and good localizations is that bad ones try to precisely translate the words while the good ones try to precisely translate the feelings.
Okay, but I would pay good money to see exactly how Herlock got into the palace. You know there was either some grade-A shenanigans or badassery going on there.
My headcanon is that like in the original Sherlock Holmes novels, his brother is a man of high enough standing to be able to get him a meeting with the queen
Sholmes is an absolute mad lad! A freaking legend! Dude just opened Zoom, did some Fornite dances (in front of THE QUEEN, might I add), trolled everyone and lead us to victory! He is not a deus ex machina! He is Deus! This is the Best Takumi game!
The best part about getting into specifically THESE games and wanting more is that there are SIX other main series Ace Attorney games that all have pretty solid stories and characters that are just as lovable.
31:11 Theres actually an unused sprite in the game. Barok’s desk shattered down the middle. I can only assume he was practicing the leg slam and got too enthusiastic
crystaahhl's reaction to everything, especially mikotoba's tippy tapping, is everything i hoped for lmao and putting on pants just to do the van ziek's leg? immaculate
I’m so glad to see that she really enjoys this game. It honestly makes me excited to see how she is going to feel when she starts The Ace Attorney series. Especially for who’s she’s going to Simp for in Ace Attorney
and it was! it was such a pleasant surprise that when the second game first came out in 2017, it was up against games like mario odyssey and breath of the wild for game of the year (i forgot the event it was, but it was a japanese game event)
I believe Capcom released a survey to the Western fans when we finally got this duologue, and one of the questions were if we would want to see a sequel to The Great Ace Attorney series. Naturally, I could only agree. Not saying it guarantees anything but who knows? We might actually meet our greatest family again someday. I'd play it in a heartbeat. Damn this series. Whether it's Nick or Runo, this damn series has played with my heartstrings so many times. Hoping to see the main series on this channel eventually! I can only recommend the rest of the games! Here's to the future of the wacky courtroom!
WHELP! Looks like she's gonna play the original Ace Attorney Trilogy, Apollo Justice and Ghost Trick, since she said she wanted to play all the games Shu Takumi was a part of
2:53- In absolute fairness, I think everyone would have the same reaction. It's one thing to think the man is going to be the rival prosecutor (as that's what we've seen in a small handful of Ace Attorney games), but it is another thing entirely if the man is actually sitting on the Judge's bench.
god i just discovered your playthrough after finishing the chronicles and have been having such a good time watching it. now the final case is up and i am literally so excited to see the finale of this awesome series!
It was an incredible joy playing through this and watching you play earlier cases at the same time. This game is wonderful and the AA series has plenty more in store for you. Cannot wait! Thanks and have a great day, Crys!
This has been SUCH a wild ride - watching along with the full stream VODs on RU-vid to catch up and now I've finally seen this, the finale, and I'M CRYING TOO AAAA IT'S SO GOOD! so SATISFYING. Thank you for taking us with you!
I feel you. While this isn't my favorite game of all time, it definitely became one of my top 4, the absolute top for its genre. Such a brilliant game, I love it to death. What a masterpiece
Yeah the Great Ace Attorney duology are some of the best games to come out of Capcom and easily my favorite visual novels ever made. The character development in these Ace Attorney games were especially the chef's kiss 👌
Was an amazing time seeing you go through these 2 games and I can’t wait for you to experience the others,I’m happy these left such a positive impact on you 😇🙌
Kazuma and Barok made me realize that men in European styled military uniforms is hot. (Edit because my brain was a mess, but I still stand by what I said. I see Kazuma and Barok, I will bark.)
Well Herrlock Sholmes was not bulls***ing around cause he had time on his hand, it was because he was training Naruhodo in the art of deduction. In his last deduction with him, Sholmes said that Naruhodo had finally learned his art which was essentially his graduation from rookie to somebody who can not only look, but observe and deduce. So he was our mentor throughout the whole story.
as Director, Scenario Writer and Producer just like The Great Ace Attorney Ghost Trick and the original Ace Attorney Trilogy, he was Supervisor in the others
@@cooldudeachyut concidering he was but stopped being since Apollo Justice and he came back for TGAA duology in 2015 and 2017, but was again only supervisor and had part in Scenario writting in AASJ that was 2019 I really doubt it
I get sooo excited everytime you upload a vid about the Great Ace Attorney!! Even after finishing the game some time ago you still upload vids about it 🤩 and that makes me glad bcs I can't get enough of this game and your content. Thanks so much crystal 💖
Other people's favorite games: Chrono Trigger, Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy 7 Crystal, a woman of taste and distinction: The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
I came to your channel for Akechi and I've been enjoying your videos! It's honestly been a blast to watch your playthrough and relive it through you. I'd recommend playing Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective when you get the chance. It's created by the same director as the AA series and I can honestly say, it gave me the same satisfactory vibes as when I finished GAAC. Looking forward to more content from you!!!
I'm really glad I found your channel because of this series and I must agree with the comments, you should check our other Ace Attorney games, but also Ghost Trick. It's a completely separate story, but is created by the same people so the writing and the music are amazing and it really carries a similar vibe, but sadly it's much less known about and hasn't been properly re-released since DS, so seeing a let's play of it from you would be amazing! (Also, as TGAA was created as a prequel to the main AA series, there actually some references in it, so it will probably be really fun seeing you connect some of the dots while you play the main series)
Some of your videos ended up in my home page alongside a lot of my Great Ace Attorney meme recommendations and I had fun flipping through your playthrough and seeing your reactions to a lot of my favorite moments. As you put together, yes, Shu Takumi is the genius behind this duology. In my opinion, there is a visible difference in the quality of writing in Ace Attorney games he works on versus the ones he does not. I think you would find the mainline games to be a ton of fun. Especially games 1-4, since those are the ones he worked on. While 5 and 6 were being developed, he was making Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton as well as these two games. I haven't played Ghost Trick yet, but I heard a lot of fans of Shu Takumi find the game delightful. You should definitely play a few of the mainline games first, though, since Ghost Trick does contain a lot of Ace Attorney references from what I've heard. Takumi is also a magician and actually secured his position at Capcom by doing a magic trick at his own interview! He's really quite a strange enigma of a man, the more you look into his interviews and stories. But his writing is before its time & at times feels underappreciated outside the Ace Attorney fandom. So it made me really happy to see you go out of your way to look up the writer for this game and praise Takumi's genius.
Ghost Trick is really really good and is perfectly enjoyable even if you don't know nothing about Ace attorney. The references are also very few. I recommend it a lot
@@Kochen51 all my knowledge of ghost trick comes from a video of Takumi doing some dance from it and of people posting photos of Ghost Trick characters in Ace Attorney fandom spaces, including ones with the same name as Ace Attorney characters lol. I'm planning to play it once i finish the aai2 fan translation and PwvsPL. I wanna finally be able to say I've played every single Ace Attorney game. Then I'll follow it up by saying I've played every game written & directed by Shu Takumi. :)
@@ABCDjjw It leans pretty hard into the series soap operatic nature at times (which I eat like popcorn, but get it can be too much), but at the same time I find it hard not to put it on the top shelf just because it's honestly in the running for best lineup of cases in the series, to me at least.
Love watching your highlights and I'm glad you enjoyed TGAA so much! ❤️ If you're looking for more Shu Takumi games, I'd suggest Ghost Trick. It's a really good puzzle game too with lots of twists and turns. I think you'd enjoy it :D
fun fact ace attorney writer studied yaoi and yaoi tropes in order to find ways to improve the story no wonder all the best ships in the series are between guys
I dunno about favorite of all time but its up there and my favorite of the genre, its so good. I even like it better than T&T and that's saying something with the villains of the game rivaling each other in how good they are. That being said I still like 3-5 more than the final case of this.
You should REALLY play the original trilogy of Ace Attorney... It has a very different feel than these two games but I'm sure you're gonna love those too.
Wait your favorite game, was a tales of game? WOW, that is incredible. One my favorite games was tales of abyss, mainly because of the story and their characters and how much story development there is in it. Also I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed your reach to the great ace attorney, this is an amazing story that everyone needs to listen to in their lives ❤ 😊
I'm saving this video up for tonight, I hope I don't cry once again. Welcome to the fandom, now help us harrass Capcom so they make DGS 3. Update: I cried
