book it in for an MOT with the garage that passed it and see what it comes back with.

I'd just report the MOT station to the DVSA. That's absolutely disgraceful

According to the MOT log, it first failed on january 5th with dangerous corrosion on both inner front suspension mounts, and a bad front wheel bearing. You should take a closer look at the front strut towers and control arm mounts to see if they have been fixed at all. It also had a fail due to dangerous corrotion on January 4th 2022.

First thing I would be doing is reporting the tester to the DVSA, or whoever is in charge of them these days. That tester should not be a tester, they were either blind - by eyesight or money changing hands, but they need to be stopped.

I bought a Saxo which had that "modification" 😂. Thats how I got into welding.

Dodgy MOTs are so common. I had a car on a forecourt inspected as i couldnt get to it. It had a green MOT. Thr Inspector refused to drive it as it was unsafe. And highlighted all the MOT failure points. Plus many more.

I agree with the comments that say report whoever did the last MoT. We may joke about cars apparently inspected by Stevie Wonder, but someone getting killed because the back wheels fell off at 60mph on a motorway slip road, is no laughing matter.

As a tester myself its a hard one we all have to work to the bare minimum standard one level above scrap is that standard. So has it got any brake pads? Yes its a pass then! Its only a fail if its below 1.5 mm and thats pretty much to the metal to metal. But in all seriousness that arch rot is within 30cm of the axle mounts so it shouldn't of passed. Dvsa wont be interested in re inspecting it as its passed the 3 months of appeal due to corrosion date. I wish i could fail alot more in my job and if im honest i have to pass some cars that i personally wouldn't want to due to the limits i have to work to. I have also failed cars that are death traps but the very next day they get there pass from someone else. Its a shit show and 9 times out of 10 the presenter only wants a pass and he or she doesn't care if its legit or not.

That's just not on. Rich, I think you need to inform the DVSA (and possibly the Dept. for Transport) about this MOT-tester. Like you said, if somebody were to lose their children because of this level of neglect, all hell breaks loose anyway, but that won't bring the children back. MOT is there for a reason - and you showed the reason with this.

It is cool to go on about safety. You are putting your kids in that car and nothing it cooler than taking care of them as best you can.

This happened to my dads old saxo. He used the same garage for MOTs and when it eventually failed for some rust, he sold it to my friend as a fail. Offside Outer Vehicle structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced sill (6.1.1 (c) (i)) Nearside Brake pipe excessively corroded main brake pipe (1.1.11 (c)) Nearside Front Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot split or insecure, no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (6.1.7 (g) (ii)) Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i)) Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material all pipes (1.1.11 (c)) My friend stripped it down and found loads of rust at the back just like this. The MOT station never picked up on it.

Many years ago I had a Mercedes 200 Diesel from 1972; a W115 model. After the brand new (german) MOT I recognised that both sills had big holes where the mounting points of the chrome trim are. Its a real P.S.A. car Piece of S*** Automobile. Gutted for the chap who paid proper money for it. As you say there is a huge difference between driving a car you know might not be the "safest" and driving one that you have been told is spot on.

I recently help buy a Land Rover Defender with a fresh MOT. We knew it needed work but have come to realise it shouldn't have that MOT. Thankfully it's all fixable and we're almost there.

i remember about 15 years ago ,there was a mot inspector that if you went in the afternoon he was drunk and would just pass the computer to you to pass your car.I walked straight out and went to another garage.

This was happening at least 15 years ago on saxo's. I had a vts for many years in the early 2000's and if I remember correctly the inner arch was made of several layers and it corroded from the inside out

I had the same thing with a 05 mini it had failed a mot the it was passed at a different location with no issues I bought the car and found out it still had all the problems the the first garage failed it for it not cool and it’s dangerous Iva garage takes a payment to pass a car they should never be allowed to fix or do mots it’s so dangerous so I no what it’s like keep up the great content I really enjoyed your videos

Everyone makes mistakes buying cars, I think its part of life. Hopefully you and your kids have great fun with it. I really think you should be reporting the MOT station as others have said. No way should they be getting away with putting people at risk. All it would have taken is a young family to have bought it and been rear ended and it would be a different story, and I'm glad you didn't find out the painful way.

Thanks for the heads up about the rusty floor. That would have been a bad accident if you would have kept on driving it. Yes, we have those same inspectors here on this side of the pond. We have a large area in the North East of the US called the rust belt due to the lousy weather in winter and the copious amount of salt spread to clear the roads. I had my mondeo in for an mot that failed on emissions, he advised me on rear bottom arms. when I took it to another place I was told my rear springs were ready to push through the bottom arms as they were so bad. I want my car safe. I had them replaced immediately

I don't like saying it & I don't think it'll go anywhere, but I think that MOT needs reporting. Ridiculously dangerous. As far as its future goes, the 106 Zest sounds like a lot of fun, especially if you can find a clean one. How bad are the previous crap welded repairs & what else is bodged? I guess is the question. Edit: Just having looked at the MOT I guarantee they'd try use the 'repairs carried out heavily undersealed & painted' as a get-out clause. I wonder if it was trailered away by the owner, badly bodged & covered up. If the tester can't definitely see it, they can't fail it. Just pontificating & playing devils advocate a little...

A proper rust repair series on this Saxo would be most beneficial. There is nothing really on You tube on sorting them out - and most even decent looking examples of Saxo and 106's are now in need of repair in the inner rear arch boot floor area, front inner wings and front floor area.

A long time ago, probably over 15 years, I was following a couple of very young lads in a Peugeot 106, or one of it's equivalents, and noticed that from directly behind, in line with the offside rear wheel p, I could clearly see the full tyre width of all 4 wheels. The thing must have been crabbing like crazy. I considered that a subframe might have been replaced with compromised alignment, but more likely it was a cut and shut job. I really hope they survived. I got the impression they might be planning to drive it hard, at least so far as a low spec. 106 could be driven hard. I was debating whether to try to get their attention and say something but a pedestrian crossing light change got in the way of that plan.

HomeBuilt bought a Suzuki Jimny that when they took the covering up in the boot there was about 10% floor there - it took cutting, sheet metal grinding back and fabrication to fix - literally not cost effective but they were making an off road toy so it was for fun not retail

Some nice angle iron welded in the full lengths of where you’ve temporarily welded would be fine. Then plate up the remaining holes in the skin.

There's broken down van parked near me for 3 months. Somehow that managed to get an MOT in March. It wasn't able to move on it's own power and was missing a front reg plate. Just shows there are still dodgy MOTs and garages out there.

I've had this exact problem. It was rusted at the back, we had 5 people in the car and went over a speedbump way too fast. So the side welds broke, the floor came up, which pushed the sidewalls of the boot out, which then were grinding against the wheels. As you can see, not my smartest moment. I honestly thought this was an entirely unique problem as I could not find any info on this happening online, now I know better.

Take it (on a trailer obviously), to a local MOT garage and get their reaction when you show them the valid MOT.

The level of lowering reminds me of the old chap a few years ago who loaded his elderly Renault Clio with long sections of scrap 80x80 steel box section sticking out the boot by a good 1.5 m until the arches almost rubbed on the tyres. A contractor was demolishing a huge steel pergola, let's say almost 5x15 m, and the old chap grabbed all the steel and carted it off in his Clio in only a handful of trips. Absolutely mental! I don't think he'd have survived a crash even at 30 MPH considering he didn't really tie down the steel in any fashion. In all fairness he might not have been able to reach 30, he did drive off quite slowly. I was just an innocent bystander, watching the tradies dismantle that massive things, commenting how it would have dismantled itself soon anyway - the bottom of the steel structure was as rusty as this Saxo. Built as a pergola with a self-supported timber floor in the early 80s and then upgraded with layers and layers of flooring and walls until it looked more like a building and was used year-round as additional indoor seating for a restaurant - with absolutely zero insulation in the floor, walls or roof. No kidding, there was ceramic tile on chipboard over carper over chipboard over a timber floor! I actually asked the local council who'd even given permission for building that thing in the first place, it sat in the middle of the street in a pedestrian zone, and they said they had no clue, the structure pre-dated their records. Which is odd, since they must have had some way of knowing that the structure was on some kind of time-limited permission that ran out in 2022, which was the basis on which they forced the owner to demolish it and replace it with seasonal outdoor tables.

That would have been called a "£20 quid" in the ashtray special back in the day. I once managed to get a ticket on a s2 land rover that way with a mostly fibreglass chassis! I swapped it for 2 tonnes of coal. Ah, the good old days.

That is exactly what happened to my saxo sport due to the rear window breaking and the liner in the boot would soak it all up. Never noticed it

I bought a van with a fresh MOT from a garage that also had an MOT test bay; the van was rotten, but I didn't realise how bad it was until the MOT tester declared it unsafe to drive the following year.

Funny thing is the car initially failed on corrosion else where then when it was retested they advised the vehicle was hevily under sealed. My question is the corrosion your saxo has is it visible from the wheel arch or is it covered by a wheel arche liner? Mot test is only a visual inspection and as the spare wheel on those is under the car the tester probably wouldnt have even opened the boot. It seems very odd they failed it on corrosion else where but not there unless it was not visible from underneath/ the wheel arch.

My Lancia Delta is like that, happens regularly. They have a seam in the rear arch that splits under cornering forces and they tear themselves to pieces. That, however, is absolutely atrocious. Considering it was tested and on the road. Good catch! That would literally have come to pieces on the track.

Yet the bodywork looks great. Maybe it's time manufacturers paid more attention to protecting the undersides of cars.

Just like others have said, report the MOT station to VOSA or whoever it is these days, I did that once when I had issues with a recent purchase and it worked. The station got shut down and never traded again, seems I wasn't the first person to report them either after talking with locals here.

A good number of early C5's had buckled boot floors and the spare wouldn't sit in the well properly on arrival at the dealership. When they came out the securing point for transport was the hook under the spare wheel well but they would bounce about a bit and the suspension could raise/lower in certain cases. No way to know which bit would end up high or low. Saxo strapping points just went in the rear suspension somewhere and front wishbone from memory and the whole front strut could be seen to move forward or back a bit under the tension. The 206 had a piece of steel mounted to the bottom of the shock and just dangled, down revealing hole stamped in it to take the hook on the ratchet strap. As soon as they hit the used market the auction boys didn't know how to strap them so just hooked the bottom bolt of the shock. If I had £1 for every one I saw with shock ripped off I could have retired before any were old enough to need an MOT. Done properly you could pull a 206 down so tight the tyres tucked up in the arches. The front end had a huge loop to take the hook and that could almost drag the sump nut to the floor when tightened down. Set the straps to pull towards or away from each other and you could change the distance between the hubs as the floor would flex. I'm not sure many would have measured square and true across the diagonals by the time thy hit the dealership.

Car mag in Finland, at least used to have stories based on real accidents. Parts were somewhat fictional, the lead into the accident. One that I remember, was a case of an older japanese car. Done up real neat, new paint and so on. The finnish MOT went through fine, allegedly the officer was worried poking holes into the car. It looked nice, but lot of places where metal should have been.. Something less rigid. It ended in fatal car crash, partially affected by inexperienced driver.. but mostly because the structure gave in. Read it as a kid, and it stuck with me. Mind you.. I did get my car through MOT ( or Tüv ) without anyone checking it out really. I took it to a garage to get sorted right. You could see that one corner was low, just by looking at the bloody thing. Got it back with fresh stamp, nothing done, nothing to complain.. Took it directly to other place, and got suspension mount and brakes done right. I could have driven it legally, but.. just no..

I've seen this happen before when the rear bar seized up and basically all the boot takes the flex

Was marshalling the truck racing meeting at thruxton this weekend and was involved with the JSCC which is essentially younger drivers ( I think 14 years up) racing identical Citroen Saxo cars which got me thinking change the badge and go racing?

The french complain about their MOT equivalent. I live in france and I like it, I just wish it was yearly not every two years. The big difference from the UK system. Test centers are only test centers, no repair facility. They have a Suspension testing rig that would have colaplsed this car. If your car has a minor fail, you have 2 months to fix it, not keep off the road for say headlight out, frayed seatbelts. If its a dangerous wreck that you obviously knew about and should not be on the road they are duty bound and probably will call the police if you try and drive it home.

inform the dvsa even though you only have 90 days to appeal on the basis of corrosion but that is exceptional i am an ex examiner and i would suggest your not the only one they have manipulated and waited til the time is up before selling

Rust in rear of Saxo / 106 is very common. 206, C3 & Xsara Picasso rot the sills out as well.

Well at least is lasted for some reasonabke length of time before rusting out, my Aunties 56 plate KA was only on the road for 10 years before rust got it.

It may not be the cat that was MOT'd. The plate may have just been on a straight Saxo VTR. I bought a Jag with a clean test. It passed with zero history of rot but had zero sills underneath. Tester tested a similar car with my plate and dealer sold me the death trap he had obtained in PX.

Many will say otherwise but... The dealer MOT is very much alive and kicking. In the past, I have worked for a car dealer that had a pet MOT station... I have taken cars that have been sold for MOT. The MOT station asked me... Did it drive ok? I said yes... The car was booked onto the system and we talked and had coffee. I left with an MOT. The car had never left the car park. Occasionally brown envelopes would be passed. A few years have passed and the MOT station is now under new ownership and the dealer I worked for ceased trading.

That is shocking! The MOT definitely has M. Mouse signing it off! On another note, there's a fairly stripped BX in Albert Looms scrapyard in Derby, and they shut up shop for good on the 8th of June so if you're close go have a gander!

I have seen some bad things fella, Two stories are from a metro forum years ago. One lad had this red GTI, He was doing it up the bodywork etc. People said he did a great job etc. Anyway, the lad sold the car to a forum member, who was going to use it as a rally car. When they got into dismantling it, and getting it ready for prep. The car turned out to be a nasty death trap, The lad had been artist with filler and rivets, rear seatbelt mounts had been riveted back in, and smoothed over with filler, a brake line bolted through the floor. One pull and the seat belt mount just came off, and when they got under, and decided to have a tapper rul. They discovered, that it was just full of filler, they photo grafted it all and shamed the fella. They took what was useable and bought a better shell. The lads on the forum were shocked to hell to see, what looked a nice restoration job, turn out to be a nasty nightmare. Another story, another lad who was selling a Highly powered metro, That car had right old hard time, as he was a boy racer. It had failed its MOT badly, and then all of a sudden it passed, with no advisories at all. The buyer who bought it, He was "supposedly going to use it as a track car, but he used to play about, and break them etc) He decided to lift the carpet up, and he got an almighty shock, the full floor was orange with rust, to the point it should have been scrap! The engine also blew a piston ring on him too, while he moved it to the unit. He really did shame the lad, with a stack load of photos. The lad argued the toss with him, on the forum, but didn't have a leg to stand on, due to the photos, and the MOT. A few people sort of said " you knew it was a shed, why did you buy it" so there was some uproar about it. The buyer reported the Garage for the bent MOT, and just cut his losses with the car. He didn't even bother to break it, from what i remember. With the engine been buggered, and the body was scrap, he couldn't really make anything on it. I do think to this day, that the seller got a bent MOT on it, as he knew who was buying the car, and what was going to happen to it anyway, as i mentioned before, the buyer never put a metro on the road at all, and just played around, Building up the car, then selling the bits off etc. So the car wasn't going to go on the road again, but i think the seller didn't expect it to back fire. The buyer nicked named the car a pill. Sad that two lads got bumped big style, the positive thing out of it, is that the two cars didn't get sold as family cars and got destroyed.

In my yoof I was into Metros, some of which I bought for £100-200. But absolutely have not taxed anything as bad as this Saxo.

you would need to contact VOSA they would then arrange an inspection but now you have done remedial work to it they cant do anything about it.

Unfortunately I think this was just overlooked maybe could’ve been hard to see from underneath as there were quite a few advisories regarding under sealing repairs and corrosion on the last mot that hole could’ve been bodged with something on its last mot that has since come detached

This reminds me of the garage that was about to send me off on my merry way in a Beetle with a rusted out frame head and a safety steering column where the safety portion of it was close to snapping. I was not impressed.

Need to find me a place that does inspections like that...

Some MOT stations don't need the car even present. My Jeep obviously wasn't there when it was given a pass. Missing wheel nuts, rear caliper hanging on by one bolt, etc...

Them saxos are known to rot, I had one T reg and I was daily having it welded, least the engine was okay but not the best

I never knew the saxo had a height adjustable boot floor as standard😂😂 seriously through thats shocking, defo the tester has been bribed by someone to give them a pass for a bit extra. I remember the days of handwriten certificates working for a big chain dealer in the insurance division that when a staff member needed their car MOT'd that a certain member of staff (who was the mailman) would produce a MOT Certificate and stamp it.... If you go on marketplace you tend to find it worse people just scamming people to get a £100 straight Pass MOT, when they pay, you don't get anything apart from being scammed....

I miss mine (was in much better shape then), slightly modified but no funny suspension. The kid who bought it off of me crashed it twice in 3 weeks, demolished the back axle (£700 minimum to repair) That one, I would not have touched with a barge pole, MOT shows corrosion as far back as 2022, and I have seen too many of those with rotten back arches. I might even start betting yours has probably another surprise behind the ECU - very common.

Watched this vid...jumped in my 2001 106. At my destination opened the boot. Checked along the edges of the floor... Everything fine... Phew!!!! (Why this order, you ask... Well i watched till the end and was almost late to catch the train... But i was on time after all...)

It almost seems like they deliberately waited out the 3 month corrosion appeal period as well, time lines roughly add up if the first victim buyer bought it a few weeks ago...

Being a retired mot tester of over 40yrs experience I can tell you never has a mot tester been allowed to remove the carpets and seats out of a vehicle to test it you even said you won't show under the car as you can't see anything so how was a mot tester able to see the problem he/she probably thought it had been lowered just like you did with all your experience
