I agree i don't know what the consumer base is for so many screens there's nothing like touch and feel in luxury Hell that's why an apple watch feels so crappy compared to something like even a tag in touch and feel The satisfaction of the click of buttons can never be replicated Hope companies realise this soon
My tiny Kia morning still plenty of buttons for every single function exactly how this Bentley although I’d not call mine luxury 😂. Still a nice city car for me.
@Rōnin Exactly. It seems like more and more manufacturers are taking the shortcut and opting for screens to save money on engineering buttons and knobs. I feel like regulators need to step in to require physical controls for often used features. Your safety depends on it.
That shouldn't be surprising as this is a what Brits call "continental" even after brexit and the company being owned by their German neighbours...it's one cozy little global village...
@@Daniel-dj7fh Honestly, I doubt it. Bentley (and Rolls Royce) are rather old school... so instead of the speakers, I would assume that the windows are tipple layered with alot of sound insulation. And if you go, "Well that is heavy." Yeah, neither company care about weight.
That isn't gloss plastic but highly polished actual piano black wood. Everything in these Bentleys is real wood, wool, stainless steel and leather. They also have some of the highest end sound systems as options by Naim.
@@gigachad6162 what do you mean the Rolls-Royce ghost and Bentley flying spur start at the same price in the upper 300. And unless you’re trying to compare this to a Rolls-Royce phantom, which Bentley doesn’t have a competitor in that category, since they discontinued the Bentley Mulsanne.
He does sometimes do this but it's never more than a few seconds of footage. Would like to see more, yeah, since there'd still be plenty of room to showcase the regular phone footage.
Well he's pretty new with this auto focus thing and said from the start that he was going to use it to try some new stuff. Knowing Marques he'll probably be on top of things and will keep evolving to better suit the needs of his audience
The ventilation controls are modelled on choke controls! I never thought I would see that form on a car dash again, I remember them from my parents' car when I was a kid being taken to school. Amazing.
The fact that this is being actively shot on a smart phone still kind of blows my mind as it looks incredibly and NOW the sound quality is also much improved since you figured out the external mic thing.
@@gabramosrod well yes. indeed. We would like to know, but not from him driving infront of us, we would like to see it from the interior while driving. How comfy is it, how is the road noise etc.
Because he doesn't know how to review cars. If it isn't a matte black EV with a minimalist interior, he doesn't like it. It genuinely feels like his reviews are just rephrasing press releases.
The irony. Electric vehicles still produce more emissions than gas due to the inefficient means of getting electricity (from burning gas). If they want to make an impact, they would focus on building sustainable infrastructure over making more cars.
@@yeetiesandwheaties do they want to make an impact tho? I rather think they want to make money. The time to make an "impact" in the sense of meaningful difference towards humanity's demise has long passed.
@@yeetiesandwheaties That is wildly inaccurate and has been proven false by many studies and research. A central power plant uses energy much more efficiently than an internal combustion engine does, and it also has things like scrubbers which lower emissions further. Also, most of the US power grid uses natural gas which also burns cleaner than coal, for example (although still not perfect). So to put it simply, it's much cleaner to have one central power location that burns fuel much more efficiently than having thousands of mini power plants each producing pollution as they drive around. And before it's brought up, yes, the research has also shown that EVs are in fact still cleaner overall even when taking manufacturing and production into account.
I remember Mr. Regular said a few years back that the Toyota Century should be all-electric. That model is the absolute top of Toyota's Japan-market lineup, above even Lexus, so it's a similar story.
@@MaxMax-vf3xk electric cars are distant future. the grid has a lot of catching up to do, and battery tech has a lot of moving forward before its acceptable charge time or more importantly capacity to weight ratio. full gas tank is maybe couple hundred pounds, full battery for an EV can be a couple tons.
I don’t think someone who could afford a car like this would like to wait at a charging spot for a car to charge. That’s probably the reason why they are all big v8 or w12s. That kind of engine makes gives the car the near electric smoothness without compromising the convenience of a gas car.
Someone who can afford that car will definitely not want to be driving it so they'll get a driver/chauffeur who will ensure it's fully charged whenever it's needed
@@charlesmuneri yea but people travel distances in these cars. Say the said person is traveling between nyc and DC, they’ll most definitely need a charge during that trip.
they dont need to wait to charger, I take my boss at work around 8am from 8am to 4:30pm all I do clean this car and charger 😂 great car but I spend more time cleaning than driving, special now in central London getting charger for central London and other bs you spend like £50 a day just to enter center London, to me this Bentelty is just Audi A8 L with badge of Bentley they can charger 3 x more
Sounds like poor person thinking. I don't think Bentley owners are taking their cars on road trips. lol If you own a Bentley, you're probably not driving (or being driven) farther than a simple commute and if you need to go farther, you're probably going to fly. And charging at home or the office means you don't need to stop anywhere to charge.
The crazy thing about that interior is its the standard, base level interior. The full spec is fucking wild with the knurled metal controls, diamond stitching and the like
Because not digging through touch menus to change your fan speed is true $300k luxury... or any old beater car. Not gonna lie, I love that flipping flipping screen.
The transitions between both types of camera/audio setups is really well done. I barely noticed it initially but then it became apparent. Really well done.
Two things: Carplay will crush your audio quality. (Android Auto too) That's why I wouldn't use it even though the ui is great. Night Vision isn't supposed to be a system that you always have to look at. If it detects a dangerous situation with a person or animal at the side of the road or in the bushes it will automatically alert you or initiate emergency braking. (It's the same in an Audi A7 for example.)
Because he only looks at the tech of the cars. He has a clear lack of automotive knowledge so what would he explain about handling characteristics and day to day living with the car during a driving segment. You’re better off watching Doug DeMuro, Straight Pipes, Savagegeese, etc. It’s the same thing with the car reviews that Linus puts out. They don’t know cars outside of the tech that goes in them.
@@GBFZeta Of coruse there are more knowladgeable youtubers for car reviews but how can you make a video about a car without showing and telling about the driving experiance? It doesn't make sense.
@@GBFZeta I agree on those 3 and more, but that's a bit of a disservice to Alex (LTT) since he does drive the car and they do test the audio. They are also fairly different /more things to talk about when aren't just doing EV's and doing performance cars.
@@rihards12344321 of course it makes sense. Look at the number of views this has compared to Jay Leno’s most recent video and Jay is a genuine car enthusiast. You can tell Jay loves cars by the way he speaks about it. MKBHD just sounds like he read the bullet points that the vehicle manufacturer rep gave him. Look at the list of vehicles MKBHD has reviewed as well. Either a car that’s fully electric or just dumped with the latest tech. There is no interest in anything else besides that and it shows. That’s what this channel is. This channel is meant as another revenue generator and based on the views, he doesn’t need to care about the actual character of the car because the audience he’s catering to doesn’t seem to care either.

In Finland, the Escalade is classed as a light commercial vehicle... Taxes on it would be insanely low, but max speed would be 80km/h... not great. But then again, it's a stupid car.
One thing that sucks about today's EVs is they are relatively slow to charge; too slow for truly luxurious long distance travel. Around here the most common place I see big luxurious Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Maybach cars (almost all 4 door sedans) is cruising at high speeds down our 4+ lane divided highways. It is close to a 500 mile, 7.5 hour drive, at the speed limit, between the two big cities they tend to travel between. I'm sure an EV Bentley, Rolls, or Maybach would make an awesome short distance daily driver (just like they do for us plebeians), but I don't believe they would be very good for those fast, long distance cruises. I notice Bentley has stated that by 2030 they will have an all electric line. I'm sure in a few years from now charging will be fast enough for high speed traveling Bentley EVs to make sense, but IMO not yet...
@@Carrot-is-a-fruit because wealthy people don't think like you (or me). They often have lots of nice things that they barely use-- expensive cars are no exception.
You know for $300000 I ain't even mad, this vehicle looks so well put together it probably deserves it Edit: Remember that this comment is from some random user on the internet who is only basing and sharing their opinion on this video and daily drives an Impala. It's not that deep.
I mean to get anything more luxurious you need a Phantom, really, and the price tag on those is even higher. Not that most of these go for $300k, this one is actually pretty base level (minus the sport model and the black package), I'd factor in $50k+ in options easy
Does good luxury even exist anymore if the entire point of luxury is to have a piece of mind? Just like what CrimsonWolf said, if a much less expensive commuter car provides a better piece of mind (reliability) than a much more expensive car, then good luxury is basically dead.
I totally agree that all that plastic getting greasy would be annoying but people who can afford that car can afford a cleaning every week. They probably only need a monthly cleaning since they go into the company office once or twice a month.
This is the base trim, the higher spec is miles better (somehow). The matte finish on the open pore wood holds up way better, but most owners are in the back or they'd have a Continental (or both, I know a guy with a Bentayga custom fitted with a Urus interior by the factory, money ain't an issue for this market)
No prores but better mic is always welcome! I am an editor and I'll be honest, iPhone prores is nothing compared to actual prores from something that comes out of ninja v.
experimental idea, film auto focus with a different (undisclosed) phone every video. ask everyone to comment what phone they think it is (for the engagement) reveal what phone was used in the following video.
It's fascinating to me that while the hardware of luxury vehicles will always be ahead of what's in more affordable cars, the software of mid-level car companies has far-surpassed luxury brands.
It's not an important feature for luxury cars If you're rich and want luxury that's more of a feature, especially if you're chauffeured around so then the driving software is way less important to you and your chauffeur will just need to deal with it
Super interesting, isn't it? It actually makes sense. Great software is expensive to develop, but free per unit. So it lends itself to large companies (lots of engineers) who produce at high volume, and then it's virtually free for them to use this software in as many of their cars as possible, even the cheap ones. on the other side, Bentley doesn't have the resources to hire a lot of engineers to develop customized navigation software (for example) for the few thousand cars they make per year, so they either have to use/buy lots of tech from high-volume companies or put out half-baked software. High volume manufacturing is a wonderful thing.
A few of these auto-focus videos now where he's made incorrect statements like that which would have taken a quick look through the menus or a message to the marketing guy to sort. I get cars aren't his primary thing and I still appreciate these videos but when it happens regularly it starts to put a bit of a dull on the value of his opinion.
W12 variant of Bentley Flying Spur can hit 207MPH. And that's stock, with a tune & bolts on, that thing would be insanely fast and quick!! Definitely a Model S Plaid version for the Internal combustion engine cars. Impressive!!
Hey Marques, you should make a video about what the best EV would be. And take your favorite parts from different cars and talk about what combo would make your favorite EV!
How about talking how far you would get with a caravan & family who take regular weekend breaks. I could drive from the UK to Germany do a lap of the Nurbergring & come back again all on one tank of diesel and within 24 hours. Do that with an affordable EV & I'm all ears.
Not sure an EV version would sell as well; most people with this level of money value convenience, and EV's are not that. I'm sure they will make one eventually, but with the Lucid, EQS, i7, etc., the luxury EV's for people with lots of money market seems pretty saturated already.
Limo companies don’t currently have the infrastructure, nor the time to waste while charging. Some will buy these to save on fuel costs, but it’ll be many years until limos are fully electric.
Millage depreciation is a huge deal in limo services / luxury rentals. Charging time would be a non issue with 300mi / 500km of range. Especially with the smooth driving they do.
@@ch4.hayabusa I’m sure the millionaire in the back won’t mind a 45 minute stop to charge while being driven from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Mileage depreciation is a tax write off.
13:00 Would never understand why, even in such a super expensive car, they aren't even bothered to use a better SOC. I mean, even sub $100 chip would a better experience than that.
Hybrids are amazing for people in cities where their apartment's street parking doesn't have EV charging (lol) but they HAVE to be affordable like a Prius. Also, DAMN the video quality in this? It's awesome
I love this channel and I am thrilled to hear that you’re improving the audio quality. The video quality on a cell phone has been just fine but the audio’s been really hurting lately. Keep it up.
I like this being a hybrid actually. Nothing would damper the luxury experience harder than having to charge but being unable to, or being stuck at a slow one for a long time, or having an issue with your battery that can't be fixed because batteries can't be repair or are hard to find. Its not just about affordability, mass EV adoption still isn't possible right now, and its good to have PHEV options for a few more years.
Ive always thought big luxury cars like these, a rolls royce, a maybach etc. Make way more sense than an oversized hatchback SUV thing. These buyers domt care about extra EV costs, they dont have to worry about range or charging - they have drivers to manage these things - and more than anything the silence is a huge selling point, Rolls have been renowned for their total quiet for decades. Never figured out why its taken them so long, especially when Bentley is able to raid the VW group kit from the Taycan and such.
The S class and luxury cars like it are used by many governments around the world. These cars need to be ready at any time, and in Pakistan at least, still no sign of ev in the government, or a Range Rover for that matter. Time is far more important for company execs and government officials than some insulation.
Where hybrids really shine is in stop and go rush hour traffic. A neighbor had a 2006 Toyota Highlander Limited with the V6 and I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited with the same V6. Back when we both were driving them daily (I still am) we compared our fuel economy numerous times. On the highway he got about 22mpg and hybrid version gets about 25mpg. It is better, but not that much. In rush hour stop and go traffic though, the difference is incredible; and the worse the traffic is, the bigger the difference. In reality bad rush hour traffic his V6 version often got as little as 10mpg according to his trip computer (confirmed using the gas pump). On those same days my hybrid would get as much as 47mpg (US gallons too). The worse the traffic and the slower the drive is, the more time my hybrid will spend with the engine off and the more time using the electric motors.
I had a friend that barely used the combustion engine to the point that he got a message saying the diesel was about to expire..... yes Expire!! He lives in Central London
Had a neighbor pro hockey player whose wife drove around young kids in one of these. I would end up behind her a few times and I swore I saw kids throwing cheerios at each other in the back seat. 😅
Would you review the Fiat 500E? I am so curious to hear your thoughts on it and feel like it would be something completely different for the channel 😅 Test drove it in Europe - was fascinating.
I’m guessing that they don’t make it electric because it would need a super massive battery. 20 miles from an 18kWh battery is absurd… You would need a 270kWh battery to have a 300 mile range on that car. That’s almost 3 Model S or 4 Model 3 long range worth of batteries.
@@BennnWJK to replace them completely, sure… But most of the vehicles on the road could be perfectly replaced by current tech EVs. And for most people it would even be a better user experience. Also, I’m pretty sure there’s something very wrong with this particular car in the electric drivetrain. 1.1 mile per kWh is absurdly low. Even the Rivian R1T (with much worse aerodynamics and weight) does over 2 miles per kWh… And Hummer EV, which the least efficient EV on the market, is still 50% more efficient than the Bentley 🤔
@@Greatlatius that’s probably the dumbest shit i’ve ever heard in my life. We don’t even have the electricity to charge all these dumb EVs and they’re not sustainable. Battery technology sucks. Forced compliance has never worked.
@@Greatlatius It really wouldn't. Imagine the disgusting waiting times for chargers, moreso than there already is 😂😂😂😂 You'll have to wait a day to charge your car at a charging station. Electric vehicles are not ready right now, they don't give enough range and chargers are slow and not readily available enough. It still has another 10 or so years to become a viable option.
Mercedes EQS can comfortably hit 300+ miles of range with just over 100kwh battery pack. Hyundai IONIQ 6 is also not far behind even though it has a 77kwh battery. Not sure wether you are living in the current world??
Bentleys may actually eventually switch to being full electric for sound and luxury reasons but I don't think the tech is there yet. The downsides of an electric vehicle is a huge risk for a coach design car company. Failing parts? It's probably not owned long enough for them to wear out. Charge time? Availability of Compatible Quick chargers? That seems like a risk when reputation and prestige is all that keeps people buying these things. Volkswagen Group will get there but I'm betting the coach built stuff will be the very last.
My family had this choice. We chose the v8 s model, as my family didn't want to deal with the plug in factor. Great car all around! Let me know if you want to review the v8 version :)
I am one of many Bentley drivers/ Buyers who watch your channel. If this car were 100% Electric I would be online configuring my order while continuing to watch the rest of this video. As you know, given Rimacs somewhat recent acquisition of Bugatti and Porsche stake in ownership, we know that the entire VW brand (from Bugatti, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche, Audi to VW) all will benefit from Rimacs Electrification. Also, given Rolls Royce announcement to go all electric, Bentley is now under huge pressure to keep people like myself from switching over to the dark side in search for an all electric nice car. By the way, I drive a Bentley and this is one of the only channels I love watching. Keep up the great Job, you are creating a legacy for many that will come after you. Cant wait for your video of the fully Electric version of this car hopefully next year model.
This video shows that Marques has reach into places people could only dream of because I never heard anything about Bentley attempting to make a hybrid. I want to see how the one percent live and not just they cars the drive. I think Marques has enough fame to get on Jeff Bezos yacht
Too many buttons indeed, but I do prefer physical buttons for super obvious things you always use, like climate control. I do see tons of stuff that will be broken in 10 years and will cost a year's salary to fix. :)
Honestly, I think the real solution in the future will be similar set ups like the karma revero GT. Cars will have an EV drivetrain and a battery but have a small engine that acts as a generator/range extender. Ik Mazda is exploring this type of solution with a small rotary engine/motor. This enables the manufacturer to use a smaller battery, making the whole process much more scalable and sustainable because they’ll be able to use less lithium/battery material (ie. the part of an EV that’s the most expensive) per unit/car. Gas tank sizes will be like 5-10 gallons. Just think ab it….
Car enthusiasts and petrolheads are very different people, if you hate Evs just because they're Evs you're not a car enthusiast you're a petrol head, I'd consider myself an enthusiast because I look at more than the engine
