Finishing a centrifugal chiller project doing an assortemnt of repairs. This final episode we got the pressure test done, vacuum pulled with the NRD24, and charged 1500lb of refrigerant with the NAVAC NRDC4M. Really enjoyed making this series hvac technician.

I do a lot of 134a work on centrifugals. Ive timed recovery rates using 1/2" hoses, 3/8" hoses and using a water cooled, belt driven YORK Recovery Machine, as well as a Fieldpiece Recovery Machine. I have been able to repeatedly move 1000lbs of R134a Liquid in 50 minutes using three 1/2" hoses in Push Pull orientation. You move about a pound of liquid every 2-4 seconds. A 125lb tank would take less than 15 minutes to pump out. Rate is the same with the smaller air cooled machine by fieldpiece or inficon. Vapor can be anywhere from 20 seconds per pound with a 1/2" water cooled RSR, or 60-120 seconds per pound using purely air cooled RSR. Last year I made up a water cooled condenser using a coaxial coil to go with my fieldpiece which keeps the tanks cool and the compression ratio lower. Ive thought about doing a daisy chain between multiple tanks but the tanks are empty in minutes anyways. Not to mention bringing all of those hoses and fittings up, hooking them up and purging them (and making sure nothing is leaking.) When my liquid hose sight glass runs dry, I switch tanks. When all tanks are empty, I bring the vapour down to 5-10psig to recover as much vapour left in the tank and into the chiller. There can be quite a bit of lost refrigerant the customer is paying for in vapour form. A 1000lb tank will contain about 30lbs of R134a from 500 microns to 60psig. R134a vapour specific volume @75psig is about 0.5 cubic feet per pound and a 1000lb tank is 16 cubic feet... so 16cuft / 0.5 cuft per lb = 32lbs R134a for 16cuft @75psig. (This is what I think about when pulling gas for days at a time... Im sure all chiller guys are nuts in certain ways.) My phone is full of notes like this that I help explain thing to apprentices. Different refrigerants, torch tip flow rates for your oxy acetylene tanks. We learn all this stuff in school but forget most of it when youre done. CHEERS!

I'm ok with it as long as the company I'm invested in provides support when needed. Both Fieldpiece, and Navac have shipped me replacements next day without question.

Until I do, I'll keep watching your videos, and learning how heavy commercial systems do what they do. Keep up the good work.

Open up the chw valve, crank the water down to 5-6 degrees C. Chuck half the charge in on vacuum. Obviously vapour until saturation, then rest is liquid. Then turn on the machine and get the turbo to pull in the rest. Job jobbed. Nice to see a YT 👍🏻

The CS02’s come pre calibrated. As you’re running a fully flooded evap it’s a little more forgiving regarding the liquid level position. The Hybrid falling films are more crucial for a 50% level in the condenser sight glass.

Those vane pumps can produce a slight oil mist, but often the separator on the output can handle that. I don't see it as a big problem, you can also get activated charcoal filters for the outlet that will even suppress the oil smell. i don't see why the customer would have a problem, this is something that all pumps using oil have, there is no way around it. Also, you can just connect a long hose to the outlet and pipe it outside, the hose will not have any significant effect on the pumping performance.

The person that was pumping fog into the mechanical room probably did a shitty recovery followed by a quick leak repair and threw it right on pump. Just pumping straight refrigerant vapor into the mechanical room. Probably set off the monitors too 😂😂

As long as the tank isn't building pressure it shouldn't be a problem. Especially in a controlled environment like this one. But i think your right the tanks would stack as the pressure pushes it through.

@MarkCarpenterHVAC-me2jg
@MarkCarpenterHVAC-me2jg 5 месяцев назад
Oil in the micron gauge isn't the fault of the gauge. When I first started using micron gauges I suffered with oil issues. Must have a second core tool off the side port of the first core tool to valve off and protect the micron gauge from pressure and oil. The micron gauges should always be installed with the port down. They can be cleaned with alcohol. I use Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner from CRC, but do so at your own risk! I always have MAF cleaner on the truck doesn't hurt paint rubber or plastic cuts through oils including Nylog. The micron gauge that is really hard to clean is the one from Testo, with its built-in manifold that makes no sense. Another reason that I am not a Testo fan. Micron gauges are calibrated in nitrogen not air.. Oli free refrigrant doesn't hurt a micron gauge.

please dont get bullshitted too much by the navac sales reps. value design and make the stuff and navac puts on their brand. but dont let them think for a second that its in any way shape or form that they do anyhting else than moving boxes and give customer support from the american navac office. its just a value rebrand nothing more or less. and however you think about the brand: its "fine" not good, not bad. just decent stuff for a decent price.

JB battery powered uses Milwaukee batteries and unlike the Milwaukee they are both completely rebuildable. I love and think the FP Job-link and manifold gauges are the best, but you can keep the rest. Just upgraded from a FP meter to a Fluke OMG what a difference. When FP is auto ranging says 0.00 Fluke when its auto ranging says OL. FP reading 0.00 could cause you to stick your hands in a live circuit.

Good video. You've got a lot of latest/greatest gadgets ($$) and a lot of theories. I think the oil pump cycling causing a broken bracket is way out there. If that pump runs that rough there's a problem. If you told me( customer) that you vacuumed the machine I'd run you off. It's called evacuation. If you're concerned about charging/evacuation time use1/2" hoses. Think you might want to stick with RTU and residential. BTW, 40 years chiller tech. and union.
