If back in the day, the electric motors were as potent as today, I´m sure Mr Ferrari would have gone electric immediately. Why? Because of the torque and power of an electric motor is not possible to achieve with an internal combustion engine. If you can shave 4,3 seconds away from the original 0-60 time, surely something must be right?
@@VesaGuardian It’s very achievable with a ICE, just not instantaneously. (Although Ferrari’s current v12 gets peak torque at around 1900rpm) And putting a modern high performance ICE in a old car would also shave a lot on the 0-60.
@@VesaGuardian I'm sure not, Mr. Enzo was a true lover of cars and engines, that's why he said "When you buy a Ferrari, you are paying for the engine, I give you the rest for free", he did understand that cars give you sensations, not just a tug in the neck when you accelerate suddenly. Children today think that a car can only be summarized in its 0-100, they are totally wrong and manipulated by the progressive propaganda of electric cars.
Love it & agree that it's the future. But you know old man Ferrari is rolling over in his grave hearing the cars are being fitted like electric golf carts 😂🤣
Wouldn't Enzo be happy to see that one of his cars is being fitted for the future? Taking the best of both worlds while integrating new tech? Isn't that what cars are about?
@@lorenzoardolino2263 it's a holy grail to you, but to me it is no more than a beautiful car that is too expensive to maintain because it is not very reliable, and this gives it a new life, retaining the looks, improving the accelaration, and improving the handling. You should think of it as a new life for a car that would otherwise sit in a shed somewhere, not as a car that's been killed or whatever you are thinking. Old is not necessarily better...
To purists and most collectors, altering the power train is a big no no. But to each his own. Two things I'd like to know: cost of conversion from internal combustion to electric? And cost maintaining an electric car? Things do break down and an electric car would need more than your trusted mechanic!
It wasn't cheap ;). This was the first time it had been done, so everything was bespoke. Huge effort, but everything has been done to a very high standard! I believe it's fairly maintenance free, and if there's any work to be done on the drivechain it's done by the company that did the conversion. The biggest issues are caused by the amount of torque the car now has to deal with. The owner just had new CV joints installed prior to filming. Apparently all the torque eats those up, and that's with the power output already electronically limited.
@@DoctorPetrol apparently a good move for a classic on its last legs but in a place where maintaining the car would be easy. Was thinking if it can be done for a classic Pullman which needs restoration. Mercedes dealerships don't even want to commit to periodic preventive maintenance because of the complex hydraulic system. Was thinking about converting everything that relies on the hydraulic system to mechanical, converting drivetrain/power train to Toyota (probably using a land cruiser 15 or 200 innards because of the power needed to haul a heavy car) with a US car tuner. What do you think?
Think that could be a really good idea for a Pullman. Conversions like these definitely would suit non-performance oriented cars, just to make them more reliable and future proof.
@@DoctorPetrol thanks been thinking of buying a Pullman circa '68-70s and having it restored with the reliability of a daily car but without the fussiness of complex maintenance. Cheers
*Ferrari conceives the 308* Purists: pfff...That's not a Ferrari...That's just a crappy "Dino" smh *buyer transforms it into a reliable electric supercar* Purists: WTF you completetly RUINED this FERRARI !!
And it's still a car some would like, so who are we to judge. Plus, he asked for exactly this, and that's what he got. So why are you feeling scammed? Is it your car?
And yet that "diet " Ferrari beats the original in every possible way. If you want to preserve a 308 in its original condition, you´re free to do so. Just like the owner of this car was free to do whatever he or she wanted. You just need to get one to have that freedom of choice. So what is holding you back?
@@xXYannuschXx bro are you gonna ignore the fact that it also beats it in reliability and that accelaration is a big factor when it comes to enjoyment? Don't pretend pls
This is like putting the patriarch of your family on HRT to become a woman in the name of "progress." Beautiful car (even tho it does take nods from the vette) undeserving of such a jaded and cynical era.
"Preserve the mechanics of the car" 🤦♂️. I don't think this guy likes to drive manual, and of all manuals; a gated manual shifting Ferrari. This was a little cringe.
People insulting in the comments are a bunch of purists, cars are meant to be driven, as it was, driving it would just bring problems and headaches, now it is not only daily drivable but much faster.
I'd love to see a meetup of these "Ferrari purists". Bet you they'd pull up with **not a ferrari**, a rental or money pit like the original 308 that they don't drive for fear of breaking it.
