Of course I prefer the long version of this song, and as usual no music vid was made for it, so I used footage from TSOM performing on TOTP and footage from the music video to make this.
This was played repeatedly at full volume en route to the hospital as I was in labour with my daughter in 2019. Thank you SoM for helping me deliver a hefty 9lb baby girl 40 mins later x
Great music never dies. You just notice new things to love about it over time. Eventually it gets all worn and comfy and sentimental like a good pair of leather driving gloves. And then you can not imagine life without it.
Come on,...I am also from 1970. To be so old, like you feel is of course Bullshit. But resist against what others expect, cause of ur Age. And I am german. Stiff like steel and groovy like a Valium ;-)
Possibly one of the best extended songs of the 80"s this was, if not the best. Dark, mysterious, brilliantly composed, lyrical, melodic ... pure magic (and I wasn't even a goth!
Eldritch is incredible. Writing awesome songs, hitting the top ten more than once and still keeping the band alive despite his words against medias and music industry... You know this guy really loves his job
Patricia Morrison with big hair getting wet in the rain, Cuban Heels, Biker jacket, Shades, Metal Pipe and blinding Gothic Rock what isn't their to love about the video and song. :)
I purchased a similar bikie jacket in 1990. I wore it like Elditch with Cuban velvet boots. I had the de rigueur skin tight black jeans and I did wear a black shirt or Sisters of Mercy t-shirt. I wore this ensemble during thE day LOL.
Wow, I quit the worst job I ever had, racing away laughing with this playing in my car, haha. Thank you for the video a connection to some unforgettable moments
"On days like this/in times like these/I feel an animal...deep inside" Oh YES. Resonated at 15 & still at 45. I was FOREVER an amateur Goth because of this song.
Andrew Eldritch here was just the hottest thing on the earth:) and Patricia was too:) saw these live; they sounded exactly the same as on vinyl. Superb.
OCT 2019 - here for the comments - loving this music 67 yrs old - ride my three-wheel bicycle (no helmet) really fast to this song three times around my HOA and I am good to go... = )
The only problem I ever had with this version of this song was that it was too short by half. By the time it gets to about the 8 min mark we were always in such a frenzy jumping around to it in the club we wanted it to go on all night. Still have never heard anything quite like it. This and Communards 11 min epic "Don't Leave Me This Way" were like going on extended journeys to another mental landscape without taking drugs to get there. Thanks for posting
I got nothing to say I ain't said before I bled all I can, I won't bleed no more I don't need no one to understand Why the blood run hold The hired hand On heart Hand of god Floodland and driven apart Run cold Turn Cold Burn Like a healing hand...
Oh My God, I think I'm in love. I was a kid when this came out but I always enjoyed the darker kind of music. There is something about it that is so primal, so raw, so sensual. I love his look: the Aviators, the leather jacket, the long black hair -- perfect.
An incredible collaboration! Jim Steinman and Sisters of Mercy! It's not often that I listen to an extended version without getting bored halfway through, but this one had me fixed right to the end. Absolutely epic!
I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this song. As others have said below, it is truly epic and gives me goose bumps every time. This has to be played at the top of a sound systems limits! PLAY LOUD - LOL
i can't remember if i've ever been brought to tears through sheer exhilaration and ecstaitc bliss before listening to this song. frighteningly redefines the terms M,ASTERPIECE and OPUS.
Dio Genesis thank you! This song is beyond words for me - can't sit still, drives me wild & u rule for putting this together - long version the ONLY version! \m/
While listening to this song, two things apply: 1) You cannot drive less than 10 over the speed limit. 2) You cannot listen to it at less than a volume level of 11.
I'm glad that I lived under a rock for first fifteen or so years of my life. These great bands from my childhood and youth are mostly new to me now, including Sisters of Mercy. Beats most of the "artists" of today.
A true Goth classic; loved it back then and love it now. All my girl friends fancied Andrew Eldritch, and all of my boy friends fancied Patricia Morrison:)
yes,,,yes it is,, and i knew it when it came out, and i still have the original record,, a 12 inch version,,, i played it to death,,, lol.not to death cause i can still play it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,dig it
This was as good as it gets nothing is as close to this movement. Today is a pale reflection musically of when this was in motion, the scene had so many pieces it was incredible. This sounds like God coming down.
I love this whole song, but I really wish the begenning was a song of it's own, I love listening to it for some odd reason, it's so pretty. But I love Sisters of Mercy.
@orangeoctober33: Because no video was made for this version of the song (which is really the best version) so I made this video myself for it using clips of the original video and clips of TSOM performing.
i`m deeply in love with the sisters of mercy "this corrosion" i love since i heard it for the first time ever and if the marriage among a woman and a song wouldn`t been forbbiden i definetely had been married with the song already. i love you the sisters of mercy and your " THIS CORROSION" and i love all your songs so my lovely dear brilliant andrew WOMAN LOVES MUSIC A.E.M.R.
@IDioGenesis Agreed - you did a bangup job. I heard this song at the hair salon today - I was floored. Haven't heard it in YEARS! Glad to come across this vid.
Man... when I heard this intro for the first time, I was exalted! With the fear for getting smitten by the lightning and get ex-communicated out of the Happy New Wave Grounds, I admid I like this more over Temple of Love .. Please don't hurt me
The live perfomace is actutallly .... That woman’s voice was so brilliant. Don’t understand why unique artists have no respect for each other. Now you’re on stage all alone. You don’t even like your fans that pay to see you. God gave you 2 Gifts... brains and talent. See you at RH London sept 19. Be nice to meet you.
i have trouble finding any song *like* this song. what would you even search for that, it's not a power ballad per say, sure it's early goth, but not many other early goth songs sound like this.
I've lost count of how many times I played this album in my car ... I actually went out of my way to go home sometimes just to listen to the whole album ... "First and Last and Always" is another great road CD ... jbronner1972 I love your analogy of the vid ...
