Recently I have been playing a game with my adult daughter who lives out of state. She visits and secretly takes 3 items from my house. If I can guess what she took and want it back, she will bring it back. If I can't guess the 3 items in a week, or I don't want it back, she keeps it.

From where I’m sitting at my dining room table, I count approximately 100 items that could easily be moved or decluttered. Based on the percentages you gave, that would mean I would need to get rid of 25 things. Interesting. And possible . That would definitely refresh my field of vision. I’ll take some before and after pictures just for fun. thank you for the good advice, Cas.

I finally had a day where I could both unload AND reload the dishwasher without a nap. Today, I did more laundry than my recent energy allowed. I think I am finally moving back toward health. It has been a struggle to do even the bare minimum, so decluttering and organizing has not been possible. My progress this week with maintenance has given me hope for forward momentum.
@HappyHarryX5

Get well soon, glad you’re seeing a change. I have low energy too. I unload the dishwasher while the microwave is heating my lunch or dinner and sing a parody song about it usually to You’re the one that I want from Grease. Best part is there’s a treat at the end. Hang in there and be kind to yourself. I congratulate myself for putting my socks on, it all feels like an accomplishment. Anything you do including a nap is progress and what you need at this time. ❤

That is great to hear. Every good day needs to be celebrated. Over the last decade i told the family i could not play board games or card games because it was just to much movement for my arms and might trigger a pain cycle. This Sunday i sat down to sort physical family photos pre digital. I usually do 5-10 minutes then stare at the project to decide what to do with next months 5-10 minutes. But i got 2 hours in and still no symptoms. I had a medication change lately so i hope this is a change and not just a single good day. But if it was a single good days I’m going to celebrate that. Take tiny steps every day for decades is hard. And it’s the path i have chosen because if i don’t try I definitely won’t improve. If I do try and I don’t improve that’s ok too. Reality is what reality is. Keep it up and good job. 👏😁

When I was young, I did exactly that! I moved the furniture and decorated four times a year! I loved my home, even though it was old and didn't have the latest appliances.💞 But as our babies came, I had to get a full time job, and I got older (I've been called elderly) with less energy, I've lost that zeal. I still have a tiny Christmas tree and a nativity scene that I put up every year before Christmas! 🌲

My parents were having a terrible time organizing one room. There house has the bedrooms the bathrooms and laundry. Then 3 big rooms. A kitchen dining area with one room towards the front door and one room towards the back door. The front room was well set up as a formal visiting area. The other room was their problem. I didn’t have to help them organize at all. I just helped them decide what that room was for. I told them to make a list of what they wanted to do in that room. Piano and music TV at midnight Exercise room Relaxation chair to look at the back yard A quiet reading area and a small library. I was just brutally honest and said they’re having a hard time organizing that because it’s impossible to fit it all. They needed to give up one thing. So they gave the piano to a family member and a couple weeks later the room looked great because everything just fell into place.

Totally agree! our medicine that we put in our body like vit, cold/flu, tylenol/ibuprofen goes in our ref (we live in FL). A ref door shelf dedicated for these. the rest external meds like anti itch, bandaid, etc goes in the linen closet. the almost daily use like vicks and cortizone goes in our bed side table. only tooth brushing gears goes in our bathroom medicine cabinet, coz i am not using/taking any meds that came from the bathroom lol Also Cas i love that you didn't bother straightening up your background. it looks lived and you are using them. unlike other videos of influencers where it's too perfect shelves like a magazine unlived where you know it's full of clutter behind the camera on the other side of the room lol.

You forgot that butterflies don't think categories (especially mine). And it's impossible to define zones when there's no categories (or those categories are so macro, that it makes no sense, like "my stuff") P.S. If someone reads this and he/she's a butterfly and have no troubles about categorizing, don't be mad.

I like this idea of zones, but it's so hard to set up a zone in a space that's too small. My entryway is TINY, yet naturally, it's where we set down our stuff. But our stuff doesn't fit, so we have to try to put it away somewhere else. We don't have the self-discipline to put it away so it remains messy :( (for clarity, I've decluttered for years and don't have an unreasonable amount of items to manage, but my entry space is too small for my size of family)

Hi, could you do one house of 1-2 people that is like normal small size like around 40 sqm? I do find it quite difficult to reimmagine with people that have for everything like a room. When you do have just no storrage units and no space in the roof... I do tend to say, thats much more difficult to have it organized in very small spaces if you ar not a minimalist. Kitchen, living room, v´bedroom and hobby room all in one room ist hard.

It really helps to have closed storage cabinets baskets boxes or whatever that are well labeled and live in the area where those items get used. That way when you’re done you can just pop the stuff back in it’s box and slide it under bed/coffee table etc 💜💜

Being single myself, yeah, the fact she focuses on family (likely because more people equals more clutter....usually), kinda hit me wrong. But, at the end of the day, the chances of anyone else riding up on a white horse to save us is remote. We're adults, we need to make this a priority ourselves. If you're in trouble because of the clutter, take that as your intervention. Do whatever it takes, and I mean that exactly, to solve that issue. Don't worry about 'I might need this item 5 years from now'. Your problem is how you stave off legal trouble right now. So start ditching items, pure and simple. I get it. I'm a senior, I'm a veteran (11-H), and I was raised with 'never throw anything out might have a use for...sometime. That doesn't matter. When you hit the wall you have encountered. the only way to thrive is to start getting rid of things. Start with obvious trash. And go from there. If you have a closet that you can't find things in, because you have 50 towels jammed in there, pick 5 best towels, and donate the rest to an animal shelter, they use a ton of them, just make sure they're clean. Things like that. It can be done. Just do it.
