This Cyclist Is Harassing An Entire Town 

i think my biggest gripe with this dude is that he’s not really trying to educate people, he’s literally just harassing them and cussing them out.

Dutch person here, and therefore automatically the leading authority on cycling. Two things; (1) traffic is give and take. This person only takes. That will take his life one day. (2) Has it ever occurred to this person that you don't HAVE TO HOG THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING LANE as a cyclist? Just sit all the way to the right in your lane. That way you take up zero space, give people a good line of sight forward, and it makes it way easier for them to judge WHEN to overtake you, and gives them way more SPACE to overtake you. Man and American roads are WIDE in comparison to what we have here, yet we make it work perfectly fine. Even when there isn't a dedicated cycling lane. In short; traffic laws don't matter when your shit behavior turned you into pavement minced meat.

The funny thing is that the bicyclist keeps breaking the law when he’s angry by passing through multiple solid lines just to yell at someone.

Even IF he "signals", he still needs to not change lanes until it is safe and clear to do so......

The woman with the dog passed him in a passing zone and he got pissed, the woman he followed and tried to corner got the hell out of there because he's acting insane.

This reminds me of the angry cyclist on Portlandia who yelled at car drivers until he was forced to drive a car and started yelling at cyclists.

Oregon law also states that cyclists *must* (MUST!) use a bike lane if one is provided in the road, with the sole exception to that rule being that you can use the full lane only if there is unsafe debris in the bike lane (at which point you can take the full lane until the bike lane is clear). So he ignores the bike lane that looks like it goes for miles. Not sure why he hasn't been spotted and ticketed by now, but if this really is 99W then his ass might just get hit soon. It's just stupid to be so reckless on a huge busy commuter route.

I think what the cyclist is doing is called road rage. If something happens on the road and nobody or their property is harmed, you DO NOT approach the other driver and get into a shouting match. I just did traffic school for a speeding ticket and there was a whole section about it. Whether you're in the right or the wrong, you do not get into a fight with other motorists. That seems to be the cyclists hobby at this point. Filming it and posting it just makes him look like an asshole, especially with his ridiculous horn.

He may have quoted the laws he thinks he’s right about, but I’m sure even the courts would agree that he isn’t allowed to overtake someone while turning.

I was riding a bike and a woman who both made eye contact with me and was slowing down for a stop sign, stopped a split second before I rode past in front of her and hit the gas immediately. She slammed me into the street in front of her, rode over my bike, and drove in top of me before my incredibly fast/agile roommate who was riding behind me jumped in front of her, when she stopped (still on top of me), got out to yell at him, saw me, screamed, then finally backed out, claiming she had no idea she'd hit me. And i still think this guy's a tool.

My experience with cyclists, as a pedestrian, is that they do not give a shit about road laws unless it benefits them. Cyclists are supposed to yield to pedestrians on the sidewalk and yet I've almost been hit several times because they refuse to stop when people are crossing the street. Also, as an aside, cyclists are not supposed to bike on the sidewalk (dunno if this varies by state), so while this guy is an asshole, the motorist who suggested he use the sidewalk was wrong. The sidewalk is meant for pedestrians only. Of course, I've encountered many cyclists who use the sidewalk instead of the bikelane anyway

I live (somewhat) locally to this biker, and unfortunately this is not uncommon around here. People think being on a bicycle means everyone else must obey them, even when they are wrong. Super fun.

Honestly idgaf if he’s “in the right” by law. The way he approaches people makes it seem like he’s LOOKING for a violation to go off about. Someone lightly taps your bike, you talk to them. You don’t immediately bash them, curse them out, then get even more pissed off when they don’t wanna legally figure something out anymore. As a biker you should know you’re taking a risk on the road. You’re on a stick of metal with 2 wheels, while others all around you are in huge heaps of metal, with 4 heavy wheels. It’s dangerous and you know that, and you also know that not EVERYONE is aware of such specific laws because cyclists aren’t that common anymore. Especially on main or populated roads. He’s in the right most of the time, but he’s an ass. I’m happy none of these people fed into his power hungry, “I am the law” kink.

I personally try to keep cyclists feeling safe on the road because they really aren’t doing anything wrong but this dude was definitely like the tattletale kid back in school because like man he just takes any situation where he was a little unsafe or someone made a small honest mistake and just tries to make them feel like they committed the most heinous act in human history.

I honestly believe if this man tried this in my area, he would be dead within days. I've seen people get in fights over music, much less bs like this.

There are times where he's in the right, but he's just suck a prick about it that you can't root for the guy. Like someone makes an honest mistake and he knocks on their window just to call him names. Also the fact he's taking up the entire lane when he can easily stay to the right to allow people to pass much easier. He's making it more difficult for everyone else and getting mad when they don't do PERFECTLY.

Okay. It is 100% true that cyclists are vulnerable and many motorists do not treat them like vehicles as they should. HOWEVER. That doesn't change the fact that a lot of the stuff this guy does would be bad behavior coming from a motorist. He is slower traffic and needs to stay in the right lane. I feel like a few of these came from him attempting to pass faster traffic, causing them to brake, rather than waiting for a space. Geez, even as a car, you're supposed to watch the other traffic when you merge and adjust your speed accordingly. And then even when he is in the right, or when he has a valid point, flipping someone off or opening by calling them a "fuckin' moron" is not "education." That's road rage. He cannot pretend like it's not reasonable for people to be scared and defensive when he comes up blasting music and horns and shouting.

Someone is gonna get so startled by that horn that they accidentally swerve and hit something or someone 😬

This just reminds me of the couple who would purposely get into car accidents to file insurance claims who just got arrested

At 7:48 the truck was in the right. The person already on the road doesn’t have to yield for merging traffic. The merging traffic has to yield to the cars that are already on the road.

As a person who doesn't cycle but whose family does (my dad has almost been hit a few times) i think there were a few times where the car was dangerous, but the cyclist is trying to cause problems and he's in the wrong by the end for how quickly he escalates the situations and harasses everyone. What a mean person. If i heard that honk, I'd think a fire truck were trying to pass me and I'd pull over too

In my area, cyclists will run red lights, run stop signs and take up entire lanes. They bring this negativity onto themselves when they do this stuff. They're not all bad, but majority put themselves in unsafe situations.

He isn’t educating anyone. The way he talks to people is not the way you talk to people when trying to explain something. They seem to generally be minding their own business and some of them are just making mistakes and instead of acknowledging that and maybe trying to help, he cusses them out, harasses them, follows them, and yells at them. This isn’t how you teach people how to fix mistakes, and it’s not your job to do so.

I am a bicyclist myself and I'm genuinely, offended.

The cyclist has to obey the laws of the road. I understand there's special codes that apply to cyclists but when you're on the road operating as a vehicle you have to obey road laws. This guy thinks it goes one way and that people have to give him special treatment but he doesn't have to obey road laws. At the 8:40 part it is upon the person merging into traffic to merge safely. It's not the responsibility of the person already in traffic to let them merge. Meaning the guy on the bike was in the wrong because he didn't obey the laws of the road.

The bike boy using his horn unlawfully must go right over his head.

It doesn't matter if the law says you can technically drive your bike in the middle of the road without a care in the world you have to understand how easily somebody could be distracted for a second and put you in the hospital it's like hes asking to get hit

The cyclist isn’t in the right in the bit where the cycle lane was closed. It’s up to the cyclist to merge into the left lane at an appropriate time. You don’t get to just pull into the lane at any time even if it’s directly in front of a car going considerably faster.

He's literally harassing people. He is not a cop. Cop's actually frown upon "vigilantes". I agree, it is a danger to people and public property.

I ride a bike. I understand that stuff bigger than me is a danger. But I also drive an 18 wheeler. I have to understand that I am dangerous to stuff smaller than me. I don’t support the aggression. I don’t care where you are, these roads belong to all of us

I definitely think the drivers should know cyclist laws(as a US driver it is not taught enough) but the number one rule we learned in my driving class, was that safety matters over the law. Don't try to intentionally piss people off, don't engage with road rage, and never try to push for right away(even if you're right, being alive matters more). When the guy in the first clip blocked the bike lane he should have ignored him and went around. Instead he went for rage bait and being a danger on the road. This guy might be in the right sometimes but it doesn't make him not the asshole.

Just because he follows the law doesnt mean hes "right". Sometimes we have to bend the law to be considerate of others on the road. He doesnt seem to care that he can be a nuisance to others because US roads are generally not bike friendly which causes awkward situations between drivers and cyclists. Were all just trying to make it to our destinations safely but our egos get the best of us. That "share the road" signs work both ways.

Where I am in the USA the cyclist is supposed to stay on the far right side of the road as much as they can, and when this guy is going only 15 in the middle of the lanes, I can see why people would get mad at him. The volume of his music is also seemingly unsafe and probably annoying too. I want people to know not all of us are like this guy

When I was 17, I made a minor driving mistake on my way home and I was super embarrassed about it. It was right before 10 at night and I was coming back from a friend’s house, trying to make curfew. Some random guy followed me home, parked in front of my house, and started screaming at me. I just stood there cause I was so terrified. And the only thing I said was, “Sorry…but why did you follow me home?” and he straight up just started yelling at me saying I needed to know how dangerous that was and how irresponsible it was for me to be driving…like you’re the one who followed me and had to make a 3 point turn in my neighbors yard to turn back… which is more dangerous?

I used to bike around my area a bit and while i would use the road when there was a bike lane, i normally biked the side walk if i didnt see anybody on there. Its more about being safe and not getting rekt by a careless driver than trying to own the space or prove a point. This guy has issues and he's going to get hurt trying to prove absoutely nothing.

As a life long Portland resident, most people have no idea what its actually like here and its not what the media and outsiders make it out to be. That being said...the bicyclists are so fkn obnoxious. I deliver packages for a living and theyre always just casually and slowly riding in the middle of the street or just not even paying attention and expecting vehicles to get out of their way.

I’m a bit torn, keyword “bit.” I used to ride with my dad all the time before he wrecked his knee, so I can empathize with the cyclist because SO many drivers just don’t know navigate around people riding their bikes and as the person on the bike, it’s terrifying. But, as a driver, there are so many cyclists who don’t understand that, as a person on the road, they also have the abide by the same laws cars do, which leads to cyclists pulling stuff like blowing through blind stop signs at full clip because they seem to think they can just do whatever they want when they’re on a bike. And, maybe 1:10 cyclists even know hand signals (they’re dead simple and easy to remember) and will just cut in front of moving vehicles like one ton vehicles traveling 30 mph can magically come to a stop in 18 inches. I can understand his frustrations, but this guy is also antagonistic

I recently got into biking and decided to join a local club, and they said I have to memorize and recite the International Biker's Oath- "I don't ride my bike to exercise, I don't ride my bike for fun. I don't ride my bike to go places, I don't ride my bike for sun. I ride my bike soley to see if I can make other people mad over stupid shit that's usually my own fault, because that's the only thing that makes me happy anymore. Amen." After that, they set me up with a go pro and told me to, "Ride as recklessly and obnoxiously as possible, never use the bike lane, always cut through traffic as much as possible, and most importantly, never, NEVER accept any blame. Remember, if someone is in a car, it's automatically their fault."

Oh no Gunnar I’m scared people are gonna be so angry. I would like to say to people who HATE all bicyclists, keep in mind not all of us want to be. I had to use one when my car was hit and run and our city is not designed for bikes. The bike lanes just end and I’m in a big city. Cars get mad because I’m forced into the road but it’s illegal to ride on the sidewalk. So yes, bicyclists can be really annoying and assholes, but it goes both ways. I signal, try to stick as close to the side as possible and people still almost knock me off my bike just for being on one minding my own business

As a cyclist, I always look out and give way for vehicles on my left side. I'd rather not cause any commotions with my measly bike. If these cyclists want to own the road, they should have drove a vehicle larger than a bike.

You’re on the right side of a car that is infront of you. They turn their blinker on a considerable distance before turning to allow anyone behind her to do the right thing. And your right thing is to keep going and wonder why you “collided” ? Straight to jail. Edit: I didn’t mean right side of her meaning now she’s crossing a lane to turn into the parking lot. Yes she’s crossing over the bike lane but you have no choice but to do that when getting off the road and turning into a parking lot, etc. I didn’t think I had to explain that because it’s very clear in the video but 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am from europe and cycled my whole life. Pretty frightening to see how some people drive in those clips. SUV vs bicycle crash is no fun. Still, yelling and shouting at each other doesn`t make anything better, he is just trying to piss people off.

Having been out of drivers training within the last couple years, I can say that, at least legally, bikes are supposed to be considered cars for all intensive purposes. They’re allowed to be on the road, and you’re supposed to give them a cars length at least when you pull up behind them.

I want to give Americans the benefit of the doubt to be honest because the car culture over there is a lot bigger than over here. In the UK we tend to be a lot more aware of the highway code especially where it comes to cyclists, since it's more common to cycle here than in America (I cycle occasionally, but am still deathly afraid of cycling on the road, even despite that). In a couple of these the cyclist was in the right, but most of them he made it an issue when it didn't need to be just for the content, and that seems to outweigh any positive impact he could create by spreading awareness, he's just widening the divide between motorists and cyclists. If anyone is interested in a good channel analysing road use (although most are from the UK), Ashley Neal does a very good job.

I’m a cyclist and my state is a share the road state, I have to ride very dangerous roads all the time and there are tons of drivers that don’t pay attention to us on the road, even when we got bright lights, horns, turn signals. Tons of drivers are even ignorant to the road laws and put both me and themselves in danger trying to pull up next to me telling me to get off the road even when I’m following road laws to a T, I’m with the cyclist today. We should leave policing to the police though stop trying to be stupid road rage vigilantes out here. Drivers need to learn their laws just as much if not MORE then cyclists
