Anim Pakal says non-Gnomes for purely balance reasons. The tokens Pakal makes are Gnomes, and it would be way too good if you could chump attack with only the tokens she made last turn to grow her and make more tokens. Non-Gnomes means you have to risk a real creature to trigger Pakal.
you could vaguely justify it lorewise that the gnomes don't seem to been fully independent sapient entities and they need a non-Gnome to lead the charge doesn't really hold up on scrutiny but it helps if you deliberately squint
I would kinda like to see a couple copies of Rograkh in this list. It's a 0 cost red legend and although it has 0 power, it gets pumped by anthems, can count as an attacker for embercleave/adellaine or hold a sword in a pinch. It also enables t1 stoneforge or other twodrop with a mox amber. You can chump and bounce with karakas for cheap. I feel like there's enough utility to warrent a slot.
This is a very interesting deck to see, because last season of Penny Dreadful (format where every card costs .02 tix or lower) Boros Legends was arguably the best deck and the winner of the PD500 (biggest tournament in the format) that season. Though Lurrus was legal at the time, which probably added a major aspect to its strength, the deck ran 4x Flowering as a main focus and other assorted legendary 1 drops, but also other cards like Ash Party Crasher, Baird Argivian Recruiter, and Merry Esquire of Rohan to great effect even when not drawing White Tree to support it. I'm interested to see if this deck has real strength outside of its PD counterpart, Flowering is certainly incredibly powerful!
I started Magic during Theros block and Brimaz was the first mythic I ever opened. I built a really crappy kitchen table deck with him, and white has been my color ever since. Watching him pop off that one game against Empty the Warrens was a treat.
Almost the entire deck is modern legal isn't it? This might be more palyable in modern. Although yoshimaru seems like a big loss. Probably replace with thalia maybe?
I don't think that's how the card works. It's just a trigger on attack that adds an extra counter per attack and the makes gnomes equal to the number of counters. Having more attackers during the same attack has no impact on Anim Pakals numbers.
I surprisingly feel like Norin the Wary would be good in this deck as a way to keep mox amber as a permanent source of mana. as a one mana legend, as a hard to get rid of threat, and as just a 2/1 that becomes a 4/2 with white tree plus its adorable with warleader's call
1 Card not here that likely would have helped a lot is Jirina, Dauntless General. She has a black pip but given how many times stoneforge didn't leave much value behind maybe it should be considered. If you drop her she slows down a murktide by exiling their GY and gives you an outlet to save human creatures from removal. The black pip might be too much but given the murktide centric metagame seems useful. Inti feels weird without discard synergies in the deck. It can cycle bad cards in top deck mode but otherwise seems a bit lackluster in this shell. Yoshimaru seemed to carry this pretty hard!
Like some have mentioned, Rograkh could've been an interesting addition. I really like this deck, I wonder if the 3 mana anthem could've instead be Sam, that can pickup wastelands etc. I think that could've been powerful and it would play well with a lot of the deck.
hey round 2 (g3) you had a sokenzan in hand and forgot about the cost reduction affect of the channel lands. it did not matter but something to think about for the future
43:22 It's pretty clear that this was a mistake, you take out the 2 ambers for gut and kari zev, and then in round 3 you keep a hand with both of those. And then you don't draw a 3rd mana source. Feels like you needed the acceleration that would have been provided by the mox, rather than the threat density. What you needed game 3 was more than 1 threat per turn, not extra threats. Let me know if you disagree, but if you had only cut one opal, and you had the same hand just with an extra opal for say gut, you'd be way more explosive.
Or alternatively, I end up still having mana problems because my opponent was planning on killing all my creatures and the mox would not have produced mana anyway. *shrug*
So iirc gnomes in Ixilan are the big old walking construct thingys. And they like reactivated recently. So when the card refers to non-gnomes its about the groups of ixalan rallying to fight them.
Wrong. Gnomes are created by Anim Pakal because she's the commander of the Oltec army, and the Oltec army use robots, those are the gnomes. It's non-gnomes for balance reasons, so that you can't just chump attack with the tokens made by Pakal to pump Pakal and make more tokens, you have to risk an actual creature.
Mostly just adding this comment for the RU-vid algo... but yeah, definitely need to go up to a full playset of Plateaus (and down on at least one of those Halfbaked Canyons... yeesh...)
I wonder if it'd be worth it going into Naya so that you get access to Delighted Halfing (While not Legendary, it basically makes your deck uncounterable and ramps you). Of course if you are splashing Green, you could even add a Minsc in the top-end (Or a Kellan in the mid).
Feel like this deck is really missing some haste creatures. I would put some laelia and merry over warleaders and anim pakal (and why not, a one-of comet)
1:14:00 opponent did have lethal there. beseech for gaea's will, cast LED and crack for BBB, cast infernal tutor for LED (B floating), cast and crack LED for BBBB, beseech for tendrils bargaining Vault. storm is 13
This would be great in modern just swap out those waste lands for ghosts quater effects there is no reason to play this in legacy this makes no sense your just walking the plank for no reason
Karackus and swords and wasteland and afew duel lands does not make the white tree legendary deck Legacy caliber I guess is what in am saying I would love to see this in the proper legue it belongs in , you cant do anything about doomsday or breakfast moonstompy , heck legacy tribal slivers would give this deck a hard time 😂😂 ⁷😮😢😢😢
3:25 this person looks like a kind of artificer/soldier lady that fights using these automatons. The non-gnome creature is supposed to be herself, growing more experienced with each combat step and making more gnomes.
