This week we are back on the water, fishing it old school on Lake Travis just outside Austin, Texas. Fall in nearing, and Texas bass are beginning their annual migration up from deep water into the shallows. Throwing crankbaits is one of my favorite ways to target largemouth bass and this week we tried a new/old lure, the Cotton Cordell Wiggle-O. Based heavily on the pre-Rapala Storm Wiggle Wart, the Wiggle-O hoped to capitalize on the hunting action that made the Wiggle Wart a basser's favorite. Does this crankbait have the same fish-catching action as the original Wiggle Wart? Tune in to find out!

Now you're cooking with gas! Way to highlight that water wagon; got some great shots of the ol' Tracker. You killed them in this episode - some real nice bass. The underwater camera release is a nice touch too. I'd definitely enjoy a Wiggle-Wart vs Wiggle-O throw-down. Do it! I too wish we could find more detailed background info on some of these lures (production dates and the like). I also dig that vintage Bass Pro life jacket you're sporting. I've got a bunch of old Stearns life jackets my dad had, but have been pining for one that has the Bass Pro logo. I check them out on eBay every few weeks but they're asking a tad too much. One of these days I'll hit it though!

Great new Vid. I just found these lures at my old school Tackle shop. They had 3 colors left only in the 2 1/2 inch. I sure hope the algorithms help you out you deserve it.

North country in the fall, I always go to crankbaits. The Norman middle N ( dives 6-9 feet) in Bass color out performs all others. Happy crankin 😊

You can try tuning that crankbait to help with it blowing out. Especially if it only blows out to one side. Just take a pair of pliers and move the line tie the opposite way the bait is blowing out. Doesn’t take much, if it starts favoring the other side you’ve gone too far.

The original wiggle wart, was molded in either PVC(polyvynalchloride), or ABS plastic, (I can’t remember, but it wasn’t see through, it was white). They produced a lexan plastic wiggle wart, suspending, and it couldn’t even touch the catching ability of the original.

Love these vids. Great work. Have wondered many times if anyone has tried taking a file or sander to the lip of a modern bait or a cheapo one to see if you can make one hunt. I know you can thin the edge to get it to dive deeper quicker.

I fished that lure with a old Johnson century reel to stop the lure from blowing out! I’ve lost several of those lures to pike and musky up here in Michigan. Lol! I always enjoy watching you and always looking forward to the next time you drop an episode! Keep up the great job Chris!!

Chris, what kind of line do you use? Anything retro-ish? I've been fishing 4 or 6 lb Stren clear blue for over 4 decades. It's never done me wrong and I've never switched. Stuff is low memory and stays limp like a wet noodle for a long time. (UV light is the enemy of all monofilament line. If I'm not on the water, my rods reside in a closet.)

I use wither mono or fluorocarbon. I got into fluoro while striped bass jig fishing in the 2000s and kind of stuck with it. Pretty much mono for topwater and fluoro for the rest.

I don't so much want to see more of the Wiggle Wart, or the Wiggle-O, I want to see that other one you clearly mentioned in the video, you're just being a hold out now not telling us more about them, show me more of the "Wiggle-OUCH." I had a 12" stack of BPS master catalogs (Cabela's too) starting from 92' I pitched them out 10 years back, they were a great reference guide. In 94' for one year they sold a double paddle handled Shimano Stradic in America, for a while there after they only sold them in Europe.

Have admit, I generally swap out old school hooks when attached via a split ring. Not too picky, usually something new and sticky.

Yeah, I think it must have been a very short run bait. I wasn't expecting much after reaching a few old online reviews, but was pleasantly surprised by how it performed in the water.

Not at all. It means it doesn't retrieve in a straight line. It darts left and right.. but in a balanced, true direction.

Do your eyes see what your fingers are typing?!?! The Wiggle Wart is one of the most in tune crank baits ever made. Its action is second to none! Hu Lee Fuke! It slow rolls smallmouth in the spring, like nothing that has ever been produced! The original Wiggle Wart is so tuneable, and so amazing!
