Since I haven't seen this mentioned yet, I wanted to note the major impact that ethical production has on the price. The company states that they have done the background work to ensure the people making the bags are paid fairly, treated well, and do not include the enslavement of children. Each worker being compensated properly means the bag *has* to be more expensive than we're used to; the prices we're used to are only what they are because there are groups of people not being paid for creating the products we purchase. All that to say, the price isn't $169 because it's some incredibly innovative design for a duffel bag; it's $169 because the people who assembled the bags (with skill, as is outlined in the video!) are being paid properly for their work. Just something to keep in mind when discussing the higher cost of certain items/companies! (Of course, all of this is assuming that Baboon to the Moon is being honest about this and not just greenwashing to get more money; that's a different issue)

Yeah I would totally say 169 is a fair price, just look at duffel bags from brands like Fjall Raven, Patagonia, The North Face and you're paying at least that. If it is well-made, durable and ethically produced that is going to be expensive but worth it. The only thing you need to consider is whether the item is of practical use to you.

Yeah see that's where I take umbrage. Companies have figured out virtue signaling means they can up price but there is little to garantee they aren't just lying. Also lifetime guarantee doesn't matter if they sell/shut down, meaning they can just take the money and run.

LOL a friend group should buy this and just share it between everyone whenever someone has a trip that warrants it....split the cost. I find a lot of folks buy pricey luggage sets and only need them once a year or once every few years. TBH I'm surprised that luggage loaning groups haven't become a thing.

We don't exactly buy it as a group but in my friend group it's very common to just ask around for luggage and other such expensive stuff before we go out and buy it. Makes so much more sense.

As someone who has started making their own bags, I can tell you that the materials that go into a good bag can get very expensive. Any foam lining, metal hardware, specialty fabrics, or getting matching/custom hardware made can all get really pricey, especially for new businesses who don't buy in high amounts of bulk. These bags being $170 makes sense to me. The hours of work going into making it, materials, design, etc all can easily add up. Edit: Not to say you can't get well-made bags for cheaper. It's just that now that I have more experience with what materials actually cost to make a bag, I can respect a bag being sold for $170, especially one with a lifetime warranty.

I live most of my time in a bed so really it was interesting to see the rest of the world struggle to live for a few months the way I have to live and have had to for years. I kinda liked it haha. Thanks you too! Glad you're able to still work on your degree! I'm also glad the world became a little more accessible during the pandemic and wish more of that would stick.

@@Cove_Blue this is how I felt as an introvert for a full year. then I legit needed to go out and see my friends like maybe every 2 weeks. and by friends I mean 1 friend per 1 day in the week and not every week. starting to ease up a bit and forgetting I truly am in a pandemic, but luckily my daily life if not at school is just home.

My main gripe with this is it's...just a duffel bag lol. I understand the argument that they claim to be ethically produced and that ups the price, but as far as I know it's just that, a claim. There's nothing on their website in terms of ethical or environmental certifications and they don't have detailed information about their production practices or factories. Companies can and do lie about this (greenwashing) to get environmentally conscious consumers to buy their products. If they aren't fully transparent about every step in their production process it's likely some part of it doesn't align with "trying not to destroy mother earth" and "we"-not an external, vetted entity-"visited our factories (to audit labor practices)," which is all I could find on their website.

Yep exactly! If they claim their high prices are due to the extra ethical production that goes into their products, they sort of have an obligation to support those claims. Greenwashing is such a common scam these days that the burden of proof is on the companies.

For anyone looking for an alternative, the Eagle creek 40L Migrate duffle is $79. I bought mine in 2013 and it doesnt even look worn after traveling through the us and peru for multiple years.

I definitely bought a new duffel travel bag during the pandemic, because it was like 50 bucks on sale, I think the cabin fever got to me... My friends and I usually use Airbnb or vrbo when traveling with pups. A lot of hotels now have no fees for dogs and it also depends on the size of the dog too.

I use a backpack nearly everyday. The only issue I see is the use of plastic materials. The construction may be quite solid, but the only failure I've seen in the bag that I've used for over a decade are the plastic materials. They just don't seem to handle stress and manipulation has well as a heavy weight codora material.

I'm also going to say...she rambles a too much. It took over 8 minutes to actually begin reviewing the bag and once she began, by that point, I realized I began to drift off (I do generally like long-form content, though). Maybe some background music could also help, along with using another camera as suggsted by the OP. But I think the video could've benefitted by giving her anecdotes and showing off her prior bag(s) between showing off the current one. Edit: Slightly condensed original comment but kept assertations that I'm not opposed to long-form content and to offer constructive criticism and suggestions.

Baboon won me over with their non-sequitur branding too, lol. I have their backpack and fanny pack and have nothing but good things to say about both. While there is a such thing as paying too much, I think there's nothing wrong with paying a significant amount / more than you usually would for a good bag because it's the sort of item that needs to endure a lot. Also, the interiors of their limited-run items are SICK.

I always go to a proper store to touch and inspect backpacks before buying them. (You can always order online if the price is better there.) I was getting a new daily backpack last year. I narrowed it down to three choices, and preferred one slightly over the others. When I visited a store and tried carrying them, I realized only one of them -- not the one I liked most -- has specially designed shoulder straps that are curved outwards around one's breast, making it much more comfortable for ladies. I picked that one in the end. Such small details are crucial but likely missed if you don't check the real product beforehand.

When it comes to travel bags I'd honestly recommend the ebags mother lode backpack over something like this. I've had mine for five years for both intl and domestic travel and have never had any problems with it, and it has enough straps/support/padding/etc. to not hurt my back after like ten hours of traveling

Honestly the only thing that gets me weirded out by these is the fact that the go-bags are basically just Patagonia black hole duffles - and I only trust Patagonias more because I can physically find them in stores. I'm glad they didn't end up being a scam or some kinda Wish knockoff thing, I kinda wonder if I'll start seeing them in stores soon. That being said, I am also pretty susceptible to online bag ads - I highly recommend Doughnut bags, based out of Hong Kong but you can find them in Burlingtons now for insanely low prices? They're great if you want more ~*aesthetic*~ vibes but also still insanely functional. I have like four of them, it's a real problem.

I would only GO WITH A BIG NAME... and you can get big name bags that are ethically made. Patagonia does so much, and their entire line of products have a good reputation. The zippers on this bag look cheap, and the corners look ready to make holes.

I have the mini bag in blue, and no cap it's the best travel backpack I've ever had. I know this sounds like I'm some plant, but when I moved to New York I realized it was high time to get an actual travel bag and landed on these. It's the exact max dimensions for a personal item for flights, it opens like a suitcase, it's so roomy, it's durable, straps are adjustable, has a good amount of pouches, plus I got one with a fun ass lining too. /I/ felt it was worth the money, but do not blame anyone if they don't feel the same way, it is expensive.

You need to check how long "lifetime" means. Usually, it means the lifetime of the item. Furniture lifetime means 7 years.

Speaking of bags and traveling, if you want more info on stuff I recommend the onebag and manybaggers subreddits. Also, if you're on an insane budget, start at thrift stores. If they have something good it will generally be a good price, because ime they do not consider that $300 bags exist lol. I've gotten a $100 bellroy sling for $10 (which I mainly use for carrying my epi pens if I don't have a need for any space), $150 messenger for $15, etc. Just know what good brands are and check often. You could also potentially get a good deal on something then trade or resell it to buy one you actually want. :) Also if you're buying brand new, check discounted previous year models from the manufacturer or REI outlet can be great as well.

I’d never heard of Baboon To The Moon until a random ad popped up a week ago as I was looking for a duffle bag for future trips. I research everything to the nth degree before I buy: I have high standards and want to get what I pay for. The name was immediately intriguing but thought it was probably a novelty so I didn’t consider it until today when I logged on to RU-vid to rewatch some duffle bag reviews and noticed a few Baboon To The Moon reviews. Each reviewer was positive, upbeat and totally love this duffle. Yours was the 3rd one I clicked on and the first one I’m commenting on. Thank you so much for this review. I’ve done a 180 and am now thinking this may be the best duffle to take on my very first cruise, particularly because of the waterproof bottom. (I’m a young thinking 73 years old, by the way)

I just got a large yellow one for Christmas. I weekend travel a lot and I always bring my own pillow with me so the fact that the large can fit a full-size Tempurpedic pillow along with clothes is awesome for me. I think the yellow is super cute and hard for me to lose, I also really like that the bag opening in place at my back and that the bottom of the bag is what faces out. I like to lay on my bags while traveling so that's a boon.

If you want to spend money on a really good travel backpack, get an eBag. I used their Mother Lodge one for my whole semester abroad in Europe and my dad always uses his for his frequent business trips. They're so efficient, durable, size adjustable, optional cross-body strap, and still cost less than Baboon to the Moon.

The Vera Bradley travel bags (weekender and duffel) have lasted me so long and probably for at least another decade. They have no signs of damage/etc. and hold so much stuff. Some the best gifts I've received. NOT waterproof at all tho

I think my comment got deleted, so additional comment for engagement! LL Bean has some great bags. I was a bookbag menace in school and would have to get 2 book bags per school year. My mom eventually got fed up and just invested in one back when I was going into my junior year of highschool. I have had this thing for nearly 13-14 years, and you would honestly never guess that. I abuse my bags and I have never given it a proper wash down since I got it-- my guy still holds his shape and looks like he's one or two years old at most. I now use my old high school book bag to hold all of my D&D stuff, which is great since it has multiple large sections and several pockets. I legit might cry if this thing ever gives out.

Pup friendly hotels: if I may suggest La Quinta Inn, anywhere you go they are dog friendly with no extra charge for your pup. No restrictions on size or number.

If you want to pack more into a duffel bag, get packing cubes. I’m only a duffel bag girl and it has helped me save so much space. It also helps when I’m repacking things before I leave for home. Especially if I have souvenirs to take home.

I have both the small and the mini. I have checked the small and have had no issue. I’ve used the small for a 10 day adventure and had no issues. The only con is that it can get quite unorganized and heavy after a while 🤷🏻‍♀️.the mini fits perfectly underneath an air plane seat

The straps are too far apart but it's good to have the bag high up your back. These bags aren't designed to get heavy and be carried on the back. No back support at all, no support straps. People could get hurt using this. I carry a 30 L with back support for backpacking. Three changes of clothes, some toiletries, a small towel, UV water pen, pen, notebook, novel, flipflops. It's all you need if you aren't going somewhere super cold. Even if you are, you can wear the winter jacket, flipflops double as shower sandals.

I bought their big bag and took it to New York from Vancouver this spring. It went basically empty but came back super full. The front pocket doesn't fill out, it fills into the bag itself, which is fine because it doesn't create a bulge. For me, I'd stuffed some US chocolate bars in there and they came back real flat after having barrel-rolled it's way through three airports. But the bag held up super well. I just bought the small one this week when it went on sale. Can't wait to use that too.

I have the small and large and I love mine. I don't do a crazy amount of travel but I knew if I bought a good bag it would last me years and be worth it for a cheap one not to break on me. I had a crappy Celine Dion carry on break in Vegas once lol. Also got them on sale when they clearanced all the gen 1 and 2 bags. If I roll and use the bags you squeeze the air out of (not vacuum them, just sit on them) I can fit a full week of clothes in the small and makeup and chargers. The large one is a beast. I bought in hopes of international travel for my 30th last year...silly me.

baboon to the moon won me over but in case anyone is watching this to decide: get a 40L hiking backpack instead. the fact that the only pocket in the bag is against ur back SUCKS. i want to put my laptop (or a book) somewhere accessible and it is extremely uncomfortable for it to be pressed against ur back. also no water bottle pockets

Thank you for reviewing these products. I'm such a sucker for Instagram ads. I bought the Bagnet, and countless other products that I regret. I nearly bought the cadence toiletry bottles. Whenever I travel I SPEND. I buy luggage that I don't need every year practically. I have a problem.

I definitely prefer the osprey style hiking bags for travel, the waist strap puts most weight into the hips and makes it way nicer to walk for a long time

if your after somewhere interesting in Cali to visit you should try cerro gordo, its a ghost town on a former silver mine on the edge of death valley and is owned and run by a fellow youtuber (ghost town living is the channel) there is bunkhouse you can stay at (which is supposedly haunted) he has volunteer weekends as hes trying to rebuild a hotel that burnt down a few years ago

I don't know a lot about bags, but it's massively obvious that this bag was made for fashion first and not for serious professionals bags despite being in the same price range. The straps and the back have zero ergonomical structural and support.

I would just buy a chest strap for the backpack mode on Amazon for a few bucks and then it could actually work. I personally never buy luggage because I don't travel often and it's just easier for me to borrow it from someone if I ever do.

I was lucky enough to go to Pompeii back in high school, with my Latin class. It was so much fun, which seems an insane thing to say for a disaster site, but our textbook had people roleplaying language & they were from Pompeii, so it was cool to "see where they lived" type of thing. Yikes, run on sentence. Anyway-- 10/10 recommend.

My travel bag of choice is the eastpak tranzpack (though I think they’ve renamed it just as travel pack?). I recommend! I’ve had it for years. It opens like a book with TWO zippy sections, and at 42 litres I frequently pack it heavier than I can carry (I’m sure it’s bigger? It’s heckin huge). You can pack the backpack straps away and turn it into a briefcase thing or just so it doesn’t get tangled on luggage storage/trains/etc, and cinch it tighter so it’s not as thick. So I usually have outgoing one section, and on return the second section is for all the stuff I didn’t intend to buy and laundry, and it’s kept nice and tidy away from my the stuff I need. I live in Europe, so wheely suitcases have always been hilarious on cobbled streets. And I bought it secondhand too! The go bag just seems like a black hole I would be tipping upside down every night. And no amount of packing cubes would save me.

I actually have the powder blue version as I travel a lot and I genuinely love it haha. For me I feel like I’ve always been trying to find “the” travel bag for me. I got it when it was on a Black Friday sale so I didn’t pay full price. It is ex-pen-siiiiive. If the bag wasn’t perfect for, it would have been a hell of a waste of money. But after using it for a while and really putting it through some hell, I would genuinely pay full price if I had to replace it. I used it on a trip with some friends over a year back, quite of few of them liked it and got dupes (understandably), and they’re good but most of them are showing wear faster and just aren’t perfect for me. So yeah, it’s expensive but this bag is apparently my perfect travel bag so for me it was worth it.

I used to sell bags and luggage. We had a lot of similar bags that had the pocket-in-pocket you described (where it extends onto the main compartment competing for space there). These were usually marketed as shoe bags/compartments. The idea was that you could choose to store a pair of shoes in there. While they would still use the space of the main compartment, they wouldn’t get the rest of your clothes dirty. Also, as an aside: It was a little tricky to follow the demo. I think if it was zoomed out even more it might have been more clear. You could even have had the bag on a table or floor so it’s easy to see both the whole bag, as well as the feature areas you highlight as you go. Thanks for your vids; I always enjoy them. :)

I have a few baboon to the moon products now. A small and mini go-bag, one of their first edition backpacks, and now I just ordered a mini backpack during their end of season sale. I've been wanting to try the mini backpack as a day bag, so I'm glad to snag one at 75% off. I'm a fan of the products. They are fun, look great, and are well constructed. The go bags are waterproof and the backpacks are made with durable cordura fabric.
