This Ebike Rack has Ramp! (But does it work?) 

My prayers are with you my friend. I've been riding bikes since about the time I learned to walk. I'm 61 years old now and because of some health challenges myself I could no longer ride. When I found out about e bikes. I began to do research. That's when I discovered your RU-vid channel. I bought a Rad Power Bike after watching your reviews of what was out there. I couldn't be happier. You got this old man doing what makes me happy. Doing what I love. Thanks for that.

My wife had GBS when my son was about a year old . He is 46 now and my wife is just fine. It took her a year to get her full strength back and she and I have been active and just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We ride our eBikes all over the country and ski and kayak. You will be just fine and will be back to your young self again. Don’t overdo it but do what your PT tells you to do.

You were the first reviewer of an ebike and greatly influenced me to join the community. I’m 70 and find it so wrong that it’s you not someone like me suffering. On the other hand maybe it’s my mission to tell you that I too have been through similar valleys and have come out stronger for the ordeal. The challenges also make you really aware and even more thankful for those who love and support us. Get better my friend and remember the answer to the old joke, “How do you eat an elephant?” A bite at a time…take your your recovery steps one at a time…one ride at a time.

Keep on Truckin man !! I too have nerve damage issues. 20 years of it. Need some extra pills right now, cramping, pulling of all limbs. Don’t walk far sans aide. But I am SO thankful bike riding muscles are much better. Can do about 8 miles a day on regular bike, slow speed, flat terrain. E-bikes have opened up a whole new world. I call them hill levelers. Now can do 18, maybe 25 miles early, recharge battery, then maybe 18/25 miles in evening. This is plain radical, also at retired age. Aventon folding bike, low step through. I use half a motorcycle ramp, and roll it into old smaller pickup, or in back of medium sized SUV wagon, both cases, fold the handlebars to lay it flat and fits nicely. If wife and I take a trip in car, fold in half and secure to side. A ramp has been wonderful. I’ll bear in mind this outside ramp. One caveat, salty winter road and hauling bike to trail head, i grimace with outside bike in back catching salty drift or slush flying up. I bundle in layers and bike down to zero degrees, not that awful properly layered. YOU keep on keeping on !! You must, I must, we all must over time. Fight gravity, that’s the real fight. Gravity wants to hold us down, pull us down and we resist. We resist.

I recently was observed to have a mils case of Parkinson’s disease, another neurological disorder which seem to becoming almost commonplace. I got a Voltbike Mariner about a year ago. At 73 I have a variety of physical anomalies, as I prefer to call them, the most diebilitating being my inability to walk any distant due to lifelong flat feet. So my e bike is my exercise. Your videos are motivating, especially since your GBS onset. I sincerely hope you make a complete recovery as soon as possible!!

I am 75 and some of you illness description sounds like what I am experiencing with age. As you recover and discover coping strategies you might think of solutions for older people and biking. I suspect a trike is in my near future. Best wishes.

Kyle, keep the faith and don’t give up the fight to stabilize and regain control of your health and life. I have fought Parkinson’s for fifteen years and my recommendation would be to Adjust, Adapt and Overcome but never give up. I enjoy your videos and you are a tremendous asset to the Ebike community through the products you sell and the instructions you offer freely.

Be of good courage, brother! I also suffered from GBS twenty years ago and it was a trial. A great trial! But now at age 79, I’m riding three miles a day on my standard 7 speed bike and enjoying I so much. I've never heard of GBS, but that's not unusual, since we only hear about diseases that we ourselves, or someone that we know and care about are dealing with. I feel like you are a friend, I've been following your videos since the beginning and I value the content and the professionalism of your videos and I appreciate all the knowledge that you dispense in your videos. I can truly say that most of what I know about e-bikes I've learned from you and you are the one who got me interested in e-bikes in the first place. Kyle, I had a problem a few month ago. More of a backup infection that went to my legs. Which meant I could barely walk and became very weak in a short period of time. I was lucky Physical Therapy made a huge difference for me. I”m now starting to feel close to 100%. My problem is minor compared to yours, but I sure can relate to how scary it can be. I specifically remember riding my ebike just a few blocks the 1st time and being totally whipped out. It is a step, a block, a few blocks at a time. Keep at. Glad to see you are doing a little bit better, keep it up and you will be riding soon. Jim

GBS is a horrible disease but I think it has made Kyle's review better. So many ebike riders like me are elderly and I bet this review gives people confidence that they can load up their ebikes and go for an enjoyable ride.

Congrats on the plaque and good luck with recovery. I know somebody who had gbs, it took a while but they did fully recover . He was as weak as a baby for a while but now you could never tell that it ever happened.

Just came across your channel looking for an ebike rack that has a ramp. I had GBS twice at ages 26 and again at 36; I'm now 68 years old and have been riding my regular bike for years. Keep up the exercise and get lots of rest, I know what you are going through and you can make a thorough comeback with time. Positive thoughts for your full recovery. Cheers ~

Wow, I’m not familiar with your condition, but wanted you to know that I’m pulling for you and your recovery journey. I can somewhat relate as I have a permanent spinal cord injury. Fortunately, my recovery has been very good as I can walk and bike again, but I do have reduced strength, endurance, balance issues, and some nerve pain. Anyway, related to the bike rack, I just ordered it. We occasionally travel with two dahon folding bikes that I’d rather leave unfolded to take up less vehicle space and I may pry my wallet open to buy heavier e-bikes in the future. The Destination E rack seems like a great value overall compared to some others like Thule, Yakima, and 1up. Good luck again with your recovery… hang in there.

Health for all of us...I come from the world of competitive cycling, am an engineer and now make custom ebikes for personal use only...and now at 68 in spite of having a lifetime of extraordinary health, my body has lost some strength in the last couple of years. Ebikes keep me more in the game but I am not suffering nearly as much. I am heartbroken about your condition. Medically, more is learned every day. Autoimmune disease...so many in life inexplicably suffer very challenging health issues. We are all praying for your return to good health. You probably heard about Justin Bieber's Ramsay Hunt diagnosis. I think about everybody that are on top of the world one day and then the unthinkable happens. I think about Christopher Reeves and countless others. Can't keep a good man down and I know you will fight like hell as we all do for our best health. God Bless.

I appreciate you sharing the info on this bike rack. Unfortunately for us it is not acceptable for use behind a 5th wheel or trailer. We like our Swagman, but it would have been nice to use one with a ramp.

Pedal, OR straddle walk with total the length of your drive ways for therapy. Use your body a little unless your doctors say otherwise. I’m not a doctor, but I am recovering from a disorder similar to you. I bought my Ebike for my wife’s current fielding job on mountain trails. I tore my midicus and use the pedals assist. I can ride to my church and back no problem. I live in a neighborhooda with hills. My midiscus has recover so far. No pAin in my knees for months. No OPERATION.

Folding cargo carrier from HF for $120. Remove the batteries, put the front tire into place and then the tail with the kick stands down. Then just strap it down. You could buy a ramp and use it. It can fit two average sized e-bikes or one Grizzley. You can't get in a hatchback with the bikes on it or when it's folded. You can open the glass though.
