Hugo, a great story with a potential good ending. It appears most of your viewers are recommending keeping the card. I concur. Most times, time does heal all wounds (and maybe Mike Trout too). You are young enough to sit on the card for as long as you want. You never know where the market and Mike Trout will go from here. As always, I enjoyed your video, young man!
Thank you, Rob. I appreciate you watching this one and for your feedback. I will wait and see with this one. Like you said, the potential for a good ending is still possible and I’m willing to wait for that opportunity. Thank you my friend..I hope you’re having a great week!
Oh, the hits and misses of collecting. Hopefully he bounces back, has a great remainder of his career, and goes to the Hall. Thanks for sharing what I think is a common occurence.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, Daniel. I see that it is a pretty common occurrence indeed. I’m hoping Trout does play at the level he has in the past and finishes off his career as one of the all time greats.
What’s done is done & now there’s a backstory to that card. We’ve all been there and now are wiser, because of things. Still a cool card & while he probably won’t be a first ballot HOF, I think he still gets in. Thanks for sharing your story Hugo.
I agree, Doug. He’ll surely get in the Hall. I also am now a wiser more focused collector. I haven’t made a move that I’ve regretted since so it’s good to experience a loss like this. Thanks for tuning in my friend
Hugo, I love the transparency with the story. I’ve been bit in the fanny pack with deals that didn’t pan out….Cards that never rose in value….buyers remorse is real. It is what it is 🤷🏻♂️ in the end just try to focus on the Wins rather than the L’s…I’m sure you have more of those like I do.
You’re right, Allon. I need to be proud that I went for it and it’s helped me a lot since then. It’s also a really nice card still. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
Yeah that is rough. I feel like I made a bunch more impulse buys when I first got back into the hobby. Well, yours was more thought out, but you know what I mean. The hype was crazy! 😂 Thanks for sharing your journey Hugo and keep on rocking!
Yeah the hype was crazy! My mistake was asking a dealer with a case full of Trouts who the hot guy was 🤦🏻♂️ At that point Trout was the can’t miss guy so it seemed safe. I appreciate you watching, Doug..have a great weekend!
Gave a video like as always - Great share, Hugo. Stories of great outcomes are often shared, and others like this aren't as often. I'm always gaining experience and learning in this hobby. This hobby teaches us a lot. I've learned more from this hobby over the decades than I did earning my college degree and has cost me far less. Keep up the great content.👊
Same here, Brian! There are lots of skills and life lessons we take away from this hobby. I appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts. Thanks Brian!
That’s tough Hugo! We all have stories of losing out, it’s good to hear them to remind us that cards are not a guarantee! Personally I would keep the card unless it makes you sick to look at it, then get rid of it
It doesn’t make me sick looking at it anymore. It did for a while because I never really lost out on a deal before so I hated it. Good reality check for me and it helped me focus on what I really enjoy to collect so it’s turned out for the best. Thanks for checking it out and leaving a comment, Jared!
Tough situation, but major props for posting the story. I would do multiple things with it. 1) Find a kid who is a huge Trout fan and give it to them and give them a memory of the hobby they will never forget. 2) put it away somewhere dark and forget about it for 10 years and hope he makes the HOF. 3) crack it out and do a video cracking out a Beckett holder because those holders are rocks. Great video Hugo.
😄 great ideas, Eric! I especially like #1 on the list. I’ve kind of done the second one already for 3 years. This card has been sitting in a dark box since I’ve gotten it. I’ve actually done a video of me cracking out a BGS slab and it wasn’t too bad. It would be fun to crack another one out though 🤔 Thanks for checking this out and sharing ideas, Eric 👊
That's the nature of the hobby, it's almost like stocks lol. We take some gains and we take some losses. But I'm sure you learned something from it and that the biggest gain! Thanks for sharing that story with us brother!
Definitely gained from it. I haven’t had any regrets buying or trading since so a good lesson learned. Now when it comes to stocks it’s a different story 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks for watching and for your comment, Dan
Made a lot of dumb decisions when I got back into it again. Took me a good 2 years to catch up with all the ins and outs. Looks like a good candidate for a PSA 10, I'd send it. When Trout comes back and starts balling again, people will forget and prices will bump up again. PSA 10's were 3-4X the BGS before he got hurt again. Worth the risk whether you hold or sell IMO.
I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment. I’ve been tempted since I got it to crack it out and submit it to PSA because the values were so much higher. I think it would gem too although it seems like they’ve gotten really tough the last couple of years.
Great story. Sad story Hugo! I don’t grade cards but I’m curious what are the Aaron Judge rookie cards worth today? I do love that Ricky Henderson rookie card as well! It’s a tough game to gauge that’s for sure! A second year Mike Trout card is never going to be a bad thing to have.you assume he gets healthy and plays several more years that Card may go back up. Thanks for sharing your story Hugo!
Hey Jason! I don’t grade either although I’ve been buying some graded cards here and there lately. The last I heard, Trout rookies in gem mint are down in the $800-$900 range which is a huge drop from its peak. It will probably even go down to $500 soon so it may be a good pickup because I do believe he’ll have a few more decent seasons which will help out his case in the hobby. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Great story. It's always the dream to trade in a bunch of slabs I can live with out for one monster. I'd just keep it the way it is. There's been a few cards now I'd wish I kept
I think I’m at the point that if I get rid of it I may regret it. I won’t get much for it so what’s the point anyway. I never thought about the regret I could have so I appreciate you mentioning that, Dave. Thanks for watching
Don’t beat yourself up over it my friend. You can always get the Rickey rookie down the road. I am pretty budget conscious as well. Hang onto the card. If he gets in the hall of fame it could have some value long term. Thanks for sharing Hugo.
Thank Jason, I appreciate the encouragement. I got another Rickey recently. It’s only graded a 4 but looks better than the one I traded away. I appreciate you watching and for your comment!
Hi Hugo, I'd hold on to the card. He's going to play again (he has to much money on the table not to) but even if he doesn't he's a no doubt hall of famer. Thanks for sharing that great story.
Hi Mike! I think I’ll do that. I’ve waited this long so it’s now part of my pc. But if he comes back strong and this climbs in value it’s gone lol Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Bro, that sucks! I really liked how you broke it down!! The dealer really should have told you that it had a crack. I feel you! I bought his 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft during COVID... it hurts. Learned our lesson!! Sweet fanny pack! Personally, I'd just throw it in a drawer and sit on it. If you sell it for $60, you'll lock in the loss. Fun video Hugo!
That’s true, better to just play the waiting game now because selling it guarantees a colossal loss right now. The 2011 BCD card is a sweet one and will definitely rise in value over time. I didn’t mention it in the video but I was pretty upset with the dealer about not disclosing the crack. I went back to the show with the intent of telling him but while there I just let it go and blamed myself for it. He was a young guy who didn’t stick around much longer after that so he probably pulled similar crap on people on his way out. Thanks for watching and for your advice, Darren
That is a bit of a drop. I think all of us who returned to collecting during Covid have a similar story, though maybe not quite as drastic by percentage. LOL Thanks for sharing Hugo!
Hugo, Hugo, Hugo! Keep this card. Trout cards will be up again at some point. I think he will be back this year and get close to 400 HR. Plus, he is a lock for the HoF even with his injuries. Be patient my friend. I was dying laughing at the Napoleon Dynamite scene with Kip running over the box.
You’re right, Ken. As he gets to these milestones the demand for his cards will start going back up. I hope he’s able to still play a couple of months this season. I love that scene of Kip and think about doing that to test the strength of slabs 😆
Hey Hugo. Although this didn’t turn out for you it was a great story. I’m glad you told it as I believe it’s important to share the lows along with the highs. I think you should keep it. It provides an important lesson and it’ll always remind you of your worst trade. You seem like a collector and I believe collectors have cards in their collection that tells a story. This one definitely tells a story. But this is coming from a guy who can’t pull off a fanny pack so what do I know? Hope you’re having a great week. Take care my friend.
Lol I couldn’t pull off the fanny pack either. My wife was laughing the whole time I was browsing the show and she had to take that picture 😆 I now wear it around my shoulder like the cool kids 😁 You’re right, Andy. I think I’ll keep it. I wanted to get rid of it so bad for so long that it has now become something that I need to have in my collection. It’s been there since the beginning of my return to the hobby so it does have a special place in my collection now. Thanks for watching and I hope you’re having a great well as well.
The problem with current players of course is that they can get hurt, get popped for PED’s, etc. It’s the risk you take. If you are only concerned about the financial aspect of it, then realize the sunk cost that it is, and sell it for the loss. If you’re a collector, Mike Trout is still a fantastic ballplayer and future Hall of Famer. I’d probably just keep it.
You’re right! When I got back in the hobby I was more focused on the financial aspect but that has changed so now the appeal of the card is more on having a Trout card I like in my collection. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Ohh man. What a trade there. The Henderson would be hard for me to part ways with. I just got done telling Adam Cards Closet. I like Trout but i just cannot put him in the same tier as Mays, Mantle, Aaron, DiMaggio, Clemente even Banks. He hasn't played even half a season in like 5 years. He will be lucky to get 2000 hits at this pace. Enjoyed Hugo.
You’re exactly right, Steve. At this point, 2000 hits would be great for him. Won’t be on that top tier elite guys but will always be a beloved guy in the hobby I think. Trading away the Henderson hurt at the time and it’s still the one I get mad at myself for getting rid of. Thanks Steve, have a great weekend brother
So sorry, Hugo. 😢😢😢 trout was the darling of WAR. I'd keep it as a reminder about getting caught up in the hype. "Don't believe the hype it's a sequel."
Thanks Eric! I fell right into the hype for sure. I thought I couldn’t lose but it’s helped me be more careful for sure and definitely not get caught up in the hype
I wouldn't doubt that we may each all have a made at least one bad trade or experience that we wish that we hadn't made or happened. Great subject for a video Hugo! Thumbs-up!
It seems that way, Josh. I’ve heard from a lot of people that went through bad trades too. Unfortunately it’s the one I dwell on but it does help make us more careful and focused. I appreciate you watching 👊
That which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Just hold it. He still has time. I still think he’ll make the Hall of Fame unless he never plays again.
Wise words to live by. I’ll hold on to it and see what happens with him. Even though I wanted to flip it real bad it’s become a PC card now. Thanks for the advice, John
Some of the comments I’ve read places me in the minority because I’m a Trout believer! When he retires he’ll go into the exclusive club called the HOF! I don’t own a Trout- you’ve inspired me to buy. Stay tuned! Thanks for breaking down the entire trade and your thought process, Fun alternative to your gold standard on location videos. Take care and Good Collecting👍❤️
That’s great, Rob! Looking forward to seeing what you get. It’s a good time to pick something up. I think I have a couple more inside videos before I’m back on location. Stay tuned 😁
This is why I don’t mess around with this high priced modern stuff. The popularity on it changes too often. We’ve all been there though with trades/purchases/sales we regret. It’s all part of the hobby. Still a sweet looking card. I’d keep it. Unless you just can’t stand to look at it anymore. 😂
Lol for a while I couldn’t look at it and would only think about it when Trout was playing. I’m okay now and I’m keeping it but it definitely represents the dangers of high priced modern stuff. It’s not for me. Thanks for watching, Victor
The Rickey hurts but all are replaceable. I think the Trout is a keeper for sure (didn’t even try to make that pun. lol) and still great for the collection. Thanks for sharing and no need for embarrassment, besides the fanny pack! lol
That's pretty rough! I would keep it if the card only goes for $60. BGS could come back into favor, and Trout is still a HOFer so it could eventually rebound a little.
@@sting114his best years may be behind him but he was leading the league in homers and would have been an all star again this season which means he’s still one of the best
Hi Pastor Ken! Thanks for the idea. I’ve kept this tucked away since I got because I cringe every time I look at it but seeing it would not only remind me to be wise but also to change my feelings toward it. I appreciate you watching and I just subscribed to your channel 😃
Dude the Rickey was a PSA 6 and not to mention just because Trout is hurt right now doesnt mean anything because he is an automatic HOFer. Not to mention Trout is only going to be out a month.
I hope Trout is only out a month. Hope he comes back strong. Although he’s pretty much a lock for the Hall m, there’s still a lot for him to accomplish. What’s crazy is a Rickey RC in a PSA 6 is worth more than the Trout
@@signsofthepastime I get it but how many people trade for something and it is an automatic bust? You still have a ton of potential in the Trout it may not be worth it now but it might go up.
The question to me is where are the values of the other cards you traded now? The only thing in that deal that really matters is the value of the cash you put into it. Still a great card though and a better story to go along with it
Yeah I don’t know why I didn’t even bring that up. The Judges were hot cards that year as he broke the HR record but since then they’ve all come down to almost what I paid for them then. Even the Rickey rookie has come down in value. The other cards have all dropped too. Like you said, what I have into it is what matters so it’s not too bad when I think about it because I’m down $325 or so.
We’ve all been there. Someone told me you aren’t a true collector unless you have one of these stories. Mine was trading away a topps Venezuela Hank Aaron without knowing it was a Venezuela. Traded it for Ohtani rc and Kobe rc base cards. Looked into the Venezuela and learned it was valued at over $300 instead of the $70 I thought it was. If I were you I would hold onto that trout wait till he does a signing in the future and get it signed. That card would look great with an on card auto. Cheers bro
That’s a great idea! I didn’t even think of that and if I get a chance to do it that may be the thing that adds the most to the appeal and value of the card. Man, sorry to hear you traded away the Venezuelan Aaron. Those are difficult to tell apart sometimes. Thanks for sharing that and for watching
I’d keep the card! He’s still going to be a HOFer! I actually wanted the Phillies to trade for him and bring him home. Doubt it will happen after this latest injury though. Thanks for sharing Hugo!
I would love to see him play with the Phillies. There’s probably a very slim chance that happens but it would definitely get people excited about him and his cards again. Thanks for watching this and your feedback, Mike
That’s true..I don’t think this will go down much more so it’s probably only going to go up once he returns. I know you’ll get one soon, good luck bro!
I think most of us have been there. In the end, I think you'll get closer to even. Trout has some accolades that will put him in the Hall, in my opinion. Appreciate you sharing.
That hurts. Watching this video all I could hear was the price is right whammy jingle. You're not alone many people made mistakes during those years. Take care.
I hear the jingle too 😆 Those were great years for sellers but not so much for buyers. Luckily this was the only bad deal I can remember making because I was buying basically only autographs and those stayed the same or went up. Thanks for watching, Glenn
I liked and subscribed to this video. Card needs to be place directly behind you on one of those shelves. What doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger. ⚾️🙏
Hey Christopher! Thank you so much for liking and subscribing! I appreciate the suggestion and I may just do that. I’ve had this tucked away so long that it may be best to just face it and be reminded to be wise every move I make. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Take care
I picked that Trout up raw for $45 a few years ago. My only Trout, and one of the few modern cards I own. I just can't bring myself to pay these crazy prices for ultra modern
I hear ya Jimmy..I learned my lesson and don’t play the ultra modern game. This Trout is a nice card and it’s cool you got one too. That was a good deal for it. I was seeing them at over $100 for raw copies when I got this one. I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment .
Hugo, yep it happens. Well at least we can't predict what might happen with Trout. You never know he could have a couple good years down the road. Plus later on you could see his cards go up as he will still be known as a generational player due to his on the field exploits already. Thanks for sharing the trade story
Definitely. I could see the Griffey Jr. effect happening with Trout down the road. Many people forget, at the end of Griffey’s career there was very little interest in a lot of his stuff. But years later as people my age became nostalgic for that era, he became one of the main guys they were looking for again. It kind of happened with Pujols too. A lot of his stuff was somewhat dormant for a while but now I see people willing to pay a bit more for certain things with him cause they’re remembering how dominant he was for a time.
You’re right, Sammy. Ive been hoping he can just stay healthy and out together a couple of good season but I wasn’t thinking too far down the road of how he’s a generational talent. He’ll always be a popular guy to collect. Thanks for watching and for your comment, Sammy.
@@victornegroncardsgreat points, Victor. Never thought about how this younger generation will view him in the future. I think Griffey is a good example and good comparison of what is happening with Trout. I hope he’s as popular as Griffey is now all these years into retirement.
Yeah I’ve decided to keep it after reading some of the comments. It’s just one of those losses I’ll live with it. There are many great wins so it’s a good balance. Thanks for watching, Derek
Hah you got a great story out of it at least, and he’s still a 3x MVP, modern WAR king and hobby darling who will 100% make the Hall. Thanks for sharing this with us, Hugo! 👊
That’s true…I feel better when I’m reminded how great he is instead of his current situation. He’ll go down as one of the all time great talents. Thanks for checking this out and leaving a comment, Shane.
You made a solid deal on that particular day. It's just the nature of the beast with modern, isn't it? Besides, what self respecting Red Sox guy would want those Yankees cards? 😂 I appreciate the video and the honesty. It's why we all need to only play with money we can afford to lose. So many people laying out HUGE $ for Bowman chrome rookie cards of guys who don't even have an AB yet. It's insane.
I agree, it’s insane going after these guys that haven’t done a thing yet. At least Trout had cemented his legacy already when I got the card. Although, it’s not like me at all to chase after current players. I was too new to the current hobby and wanted to get in so bad that I lost sight of what I really like to collect. I even bought Yankees cards 🤦🏻♂️ Lesson learned and it helped keep me focused on what I enjoy rather than what is the hot thing at the moment. Thanks for watching and for your comment, Gordon.
Hey Hugo, you win some, you lose some. It’s a risk you take in the flipping game. It’s a long hold, you will be ok. I think Trout is a HOFer even if he never plays another inning. Judge, Gleyber and Bellinger have a ways to go before they are HOF worthy in my opinion.
That’s true, Jim..probably good it happened because I’m not a flipper and have no desire to be one. He’s still ahead of those guys for sure. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Oh no! Was it the Gregg Jefferies rookie you were going for? That was such a hot card then I think a lot of people would have done that trade. Thanks for sharing that story
Great video Hugo. So sorry to hear about the Trout card. I have had those deals before so I know what happened with you. I would keep the Trout card. It is like a stock maybe it will go back up. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Ed. I’ll hold on to it and see what happens. Worst case scenario it becomes a symbol of that time. I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment.
You’re absolutely right, Scott. Ironically I traded all my McGwires and Sosas back in ‘99 or so to get some really solid rookie cards of HOFers back then. Thanks for watching
I think majority of collectors prob overspent more than they wanted to during 2020-2021 lol. I’d keep the Trout and crack it out of the Beckett slab and just keep it raw
Now that’s an idea I haven’t gotten yet. Keeping it raw would be cool, especially if I kept it on a magpro slab 🤔 it’s basically that now since the slab has a crack in it. I appreciate the suggestion, Austin. Thanks for watching
In the overall scheme of things my friend, this is not a big deal, and merely just 1 out of 100 wins and losses you will have. Here's some immediate thoughts: 1) Do NOT resub to PSA. Taking in account of the grading costs, time, effort, and many other variables that can happen, it is not worth the risk solely based on the current value of the card. 2) When card values are low for established superstars, especially RC cards in gem grades, HOLD the card. Rationale is simply that the downside in the card going lower is small compared to it's potential upside which technically is limitless. 3) If a card that was once $500 dips to $100, what's the worse that can happen? It goes to $75? $50? Determine what the floor value will be for the card, and in this case, it's Trout, an established star, his RC card, in a desirabe grade, the floor value will never be zero, Personally, I feel the floor value for this card (BGS 9.5) is $60. Even if it declines, I cannot see it ever selling consistently for less than $60. 4) So if the card is $100 now, nd the floor is $60, all you are risking is $40 if you decide to hold the card longterm. That's all. 5) The card may not get to it's historic highs again, but is it feasible to think it can get to $150? to $200? to $300? More? Bottomline, is the chance of the card going higher in the future more likely than the chance of the card tanking to $60 and never rebounding from $60? Are you willing to risk $40 to see? Absolutely.
Excellent points! Good reminders as to why I should just keep it. Definitely not worth the trouble or risk to mess with it and like you said, it’s not a big deal in the overall scheme of things. One of the things that gets me is my collecting budget has dropped considerably since that time so it stings to lose anything in my current position. So I guess I’ve been more bummed about it than I should be. I appreciate you taking the time to not only watch but leave such a great comment. Thank you!
Yeah that’s true. I didn’t care for the other cards too much and this one still has some potential to bounce back a little so it could have been worse. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
It’s part of the hobby. I’m sure you profited on some other cards. But I do feel your pain on some of missed opportunities and bad trades. If that card really bummed you get rid of it and take the loss. You can cold long term but doubt it will get to that covid era
Yeah I doubt it will get anywhere near where it was at in the covid era. I’m not too bummed about it anymore so I’ll wait to see what he does when he comes back. I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment.
Hugo I have the same card in psa 10, bought it for next to nothing in like 2015. I am kicking myself for not selling in 2021 but now we just wait to see if he gets traded to an actual real baseball teams and comes back for the stretch run 🤷♂️
Nice! It’s great that you have one, Adam, and that you got it cheap. I would feel a lot better if this was in a PSA 10 slab. I’m hoping he gets traded to the Phillies and leads them to a chip which is probably a pipe dream but that would be the best case scenario I think.
Ah man! My eyes blacked out after I saw the fanny pack and that’s all I see now! Ok, back after a 50 minute yoga session . Wow!! You gave up some bangers for that!! Don’t worry though, anyone trying to move up and move cards in that time frame has a story like that. Not all wire FPs while doing it!🎉🎉🎉💥💥💥
Yeah boy 🎉 Fanny packs and yoga talk were not in the playbook coming in but I’m here for it. Man, there were 3 of those cards that I would not trade straight up for it today. The 2 Judges and the Rickey are all more valuable than the Trout. I also wouldn’t pay $115 for it so this turned out to be a disaster. It’s all good though, I’ve earned a couple yeah boys so I feel better about it 🎉
I still think the trout card is cool. Keep up the awesome videos my friend 🎉🎉. I am glad you gave the story. I would psa grade it anyways. Or sell it or keep it or do a giveaway
Keep it in the Beckett slab. I would not put anymore money into this card. I'd sell it asap, and then buy the '80 Rickey Henderson card in a PSA slab. At least, you'd have your Rickey card back in the pc. We all take losses in this hobby. No one is immune. Enjoy the ride!
Good call..I picked up a Rickey rookie recently in a PSA slab 😄 I’m not putting anymore into this card and plan on just waiting it out. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment
even if Trout never plays another game, he's a first ballot HOF'er. I would hang on to it. injuries are an inherent risk when investing in modern players. if Rickey Henderson pulls a hamstring while walking his dog, his card value is unaffected. ha ha ha!
Haha you’re absolutely right! Look at what happened to Acuña this week. Lots of risk with current players. Crazy to think that Rickey is in better running shape than both Trout and Acuña right now. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
That’s great! Trout is a special player. I hope he can still have a long career and help the Angels become a contender. Your brother would be so thrilled. Thanks for watching
At the time it was a great deal. If you sent it to psa could you leave it in the holder and select gem 10 is the lowest grade you'd select or not to grade it? You can do that with sgc
That true, I could try that. I think PSA does it too, which is who I’d go with. SGC is nice but I prefer vintage in their slabs. Thanks to the idea and for watching!
Hugo, oh man! I think we pretty much all have some big loss stories, so I take some comfort in not being the only one! That being said, it still is not fun! 😞 I think an interesting question is: What is the future potential for your card? Assuming it has a present value of say, $50 to $75, could it become a $150 card if / when he gets into the HOF? Another interesting question: If you sold it and you were able to receive $50 net for the sale, could you buy something you would like a lot more, that might have better appreciation potential? Here is a cool idea for your consideration: Sell the Trout and try to buy something with the proceeds that eventually appreciates to $420! Granted, there are no guarantees and that type of appreciation is not very common ... but it would be fun to try! Just thoughts for your consideration. We are all waiting in suspense to see what you will do! Take care, my collecting brother! 😊👊
Thanks for the suggestion, Adam. That would be a fun project to see what I could turn it into. I’ve been brainstorming a bit about it and I may go for it. As of now I’m just keeping it and waiting for his return. If he comes back strong I may make a move. I appreciate you watching and leaving such a great comment. Thank you my collecting brother 😊👊
That was my plan for a while but it kept dipping in value so bad that I just left it alone. I may still do that someday. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching the video!
@@signsofthepastime you had fun. Remember the good times. Forget the bad. The hobby was great again and we all benefited from it one way or another. Bad trades are just part of collecting, you gotta look forward and not worry about the past. “Can’t change the past but you can change your future” said someone wise. It’s true. What’s your next deal? Trade chipped slabs to that dealer who sold you the chipped Trout. Do it like he did. Film it. Would be awesome content.
I appreciate the vote for keeping it. I was hoping that’s what most people would say because it is a good one to remind me of that trade and those times. Thanks Jason
I woke up this morning feeling pretty good about my collection, mostly slabbed up in Beckett slabs... after watching this video...🤢... I realize I'm not up with the signs of time. Luckily, it is still COOL to rock the fanny pack in public...oh wait...that isn't your next video, is it?
Beckett is still good..I’d keep buying them. Just the overall perception of them is bad right now but depending on what it is , it still holds strong I think. Now the fanny pack…I say listen to Mike Petty 😄
Hugo now you have a great story 😂😂🤦♂️ we have all made plenty of bad moves in this hobby. My mind is blown that card was worth that much 🤯🤯. At least looking at some of the others you gave up its not the end of the world. Funny though that Gwynn alone probably worth more than that trout now. Hey Trouts still only 32 and maybe these freak injurys will end at some point. I would just hold it forever keep the story and have fun with it. 👊👊🤙🤙
Right on, Dylan! I’ve decided I’m keeping it now. Crazy how expensive it got at one point and I think you may be right about the Gwynn alone being worth more. Pretty wild but that’s the hobby sometimes..just gotta ride the waves that come. Thanks for watching
Keep it… If nothing else, it can serve as a lesson to stick with vintage HOFers. Every time you look at it, you can make a smarter choice! Sorry for your bad fortune on this one.
Thanks Mark and you’re right. I’m sticking with vintage players these days. Not only is it a smarter move but those guys were more interesting to me too. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
Hi Hugo, I want to state great story because it was, but I feel awkward writing that. On the bright side, you can look at it like a stock, you didn’t lose anything until you sell it. I would keep it because of the story and what it meant to you at the time you bought it. Trout will likely be the best player of his generation. While he doesn’t have the World Series that Mantle had, there are some parallels between them with the immense talent and the what could have been quality. That makes this card interesting to keep. I think your family will appreciate this video and card someday.
I never thought about it like that. Thank you, Terry! You’re right on with the comparison between Trout and Mantle. Years from now I think that’s what the conversations will be about. I believe, well, I hope he does put up a few more good years. If he does, they’ll have similar career stats. I’ll keep those thoughts in my head moving forward. Thanks for your encouraging message, Terry!
@@signsofthepastime Trout has been compared to Mantle since the beginning of his career. Probably, even before he played in his first MLB game. Even if he doesn't end up being Mantle, he will still be considered great by most who saw him play. Mantle was not better than Mays and Aaron either. Just more popular.
You’re this far and this long into it you gotta keep it now. Wait till he retires and when they put him into the HOF you sell it. It may never get close to $500 $600 or $700 but that’s the next peak wave coming for Trout. Definitely mention/show the chip in the slab when you do sell. That dealer was wrong for sneaking that by you. Post a follow up if you can on this. Out of those cards you traded, which one do you want back the most and why? Thanks for the original content. First time seeing your channel and I’ve never seen anyone else with content like this.
Thank you for checking out this video and the channel, Jeff! I think I’ll do pretty much what you stated. Unless Trout goes off the next couple of seasons and his cards are in demand again then I’ll move off it. I’ll definitely disclose the crack and I’ll post a follow up video of what came out of this card. I appreciate you leaving the great advice.
Rough trade. I bet if we all looked back we would see mistakes we all made. Don't stress brother. I'd make a trade with you. I'd even trade red sox to ya. Haha
Sorry your trade did not turn out well. We all have made poor decisions in the hobby. Personally, I would just keep the card at this point. Still, thanks for sharing your story.
2012 topps heritage 9.5 I think we can or can't round off to a 10? if it was say a 1979 Ferguson Jenkins then we can say 9.5 but to me this looks like a 10 unless a collector was trying to put the card in a holder and it hit a corner other than that it's a 10? 2 Aaron Judge rookies well he is the greatest Angel of all time with the exception of Nolan Ryan. I will assume he's better than Bobby Grich, ken landeroux, and Don Baylor but those players played against better teams. but still Trout still the best Angel except for Nolan Ryan. so which card is more sought after the Judge on the 60 Heritage or the Yaz rookie 1960? which card would you rather have?
I’d rather have the Yaz rookie! I love that card and hope to find the right one for me someday. Yeah the grading scale is one I don’t really agree with much. It’s either mint or gem..the in between .5 doesn’t do it for me. If Trout stays with the Angels his whole career he’ll probably be the best Angel of all time. Ryan is the more legendary player one but he’s limited in time with the team. Grich, Baylor, Garrett Anderson, Tim Salmon, Troy Glaus..we’re all pretty decent Angels. I think Trout is the top guy though. Thanks for watching and for your comment, Mark.
If i were you id have to get rid of it. It's a reminder. Turn a negative into a positive. Maybe donate the money to a good charity. Then a video about how the worst trade helped that charity. Just an opinion!
Definitely don’t do that. I have an eBay store that I run full time and it’s dedicated for just one type of item (not cards) and the backup account is to sell miscellaneous stuff. I never do auctions, all buy it now with best offer. Shill bidding is the worst . The dealer ended up fleecing me with a cracked slab. My fault for not checking but dude should have been honest if he wanted to be a dealer long term. Haven’t seen him at shows since
