My favorite campaign of all time was the third way along with an unlikely candidate with mzab. The amount of hours I invested into that is shameful, but, definitely my best moment in eu4
The thing is, the first war against the Ottomans is always either guaranteed or RNG, and neither makes it very satisfying. What makes Byz satisfying is navigating thenext 30-50 ish years after that first war.
@@thomasmann4536 I think that once you get your cores, have your alliance network and broke otto's it's incredibly free after that. The fun should be the first war
@@CharlieKellyEsq I have gotten decc'ed by a Aragon/Venice alliance like 7 out of the last 10 Byz games. Way more of a stress fest than the Ottoman war.
Hi Zlewikk, not sure if you know this, but clicking that shield icon on the shield icon on the left in a peace deal allows you to sort by recipient countries, so you don’t have to scroll down and look for provinces for your subject every time you launch a reconquest war.
@@ZlewikkTV Also don't know if you know this neat trick, but they added a new mechanic when if you shift click on provinces, you can transfer their occupation to a subject/ally at once I believe
Going to watch this as preparation for my 10th restart attempt as 1.36 Byz! If the EU4 Master Zlewikk can conquer all that by 1512, maybe I can manage all of Balkans, and Anatolia by then. The saddest part… I have over 6,500 hours in game, and I’ve never done a full Byz campaign or the Basileus achievement. But with 1.36 and the two new Byz unique achievements going to try for all 3 Byz achievements now!
24:35 there some interactions that will update your casus belli immediately, so you don't have to wait for the month tick. For example insulting another nation.
To ally Knights first day I use 1 trade ship to protect against pirates in constantinople trade node, and 2nd one ship for protecting in ragusa trade node, they both are set to return port during war, rest of fleet transports army and participates in war against Epirus. After the war with Epirus I have already high enough relations to take alliance and can move my 2 ships to protect trade. You can't be raided while at least 1 ship protects in a trade node.
Bro i was following you 5 years ago i was so into the game and all those years watching you was great! Just came here to pay my respect lol. Wish you best in ur life man.
Just finished Persian video as Persia is one of my favourite countries in EU4 and now there is Byzantium, another favourite. Oh lord, give me strengh not to play EU all night!
Georgia also has vassal, with T3 fort :D. They are awesome to tank and take some Ottomans units with Attrition! Also 2 things, cause i was trying diffrent things with Byzantine. 1. After 2 months (So 1445 January) you can abdicate ruler to get 5:2:3 (4) on throne. (4) mil cause you will still tet event for +1 for him soon. It will trigger 2x rebels 10-21k and you can fight with them 1 by 1. Cause 1 is triggered after abdication, second after clicking "note" about rebellion. It helps with mana and you can get 4 mil tech before ottomans 2. I personally didn't take disciplne icon vs ottomans and took Improve relations/AE after first war, went to fight serbia (Another 10% from mission) and then Neaples -> Hungary. All that AE reduction and 50% improve relations + Advisor allowed me to be in constant wars without having any coallition to worry about ^^ ANd about Pronoias what i noticed: - You can make vassal a pronoia (And to the second stage aswell) during war - You give them "new" ruler so RM is cancelled and if you RM them again, it will cost diplo relation - You can't make a vassal a pronoia if they have more than 100 dev - Best (in my opinion) was to release vassal and before we return provinces to them, we make them a Pronoia. We could do that earlier, but there is a chance that their ruler will die Overall love pronoias, those are awesome in my opinion :D
Avenge 1071 is about the battle of manzikert where the declining byzatine army was finally completely shattered, opening the route for the seljuks into asia minor.
@@harryhawtin8197 You're right actually. There is a free music pack called "Europa Universalis IV: 10th Anniversary Community Music Pack". It includes 10 songs one of which is from Anbennar.
byzantine with their new idea, pronia system, and better bonus from mission tree makes them pretty powerful but i wish we can get a different choice for tier 5 military reform, an alternative another one focusing on merc
Has anyone tested what happens if you spend the 150 mil on the decision to support the Thessaly campaign? Every guide video I’ve seen took the other option, and the options seem very heavily tilted to favor that, so wondering if supporting the campaign has some secret buff Easter Egg
I feel like the Pronoiars are a real noob trap, because early game, having one big pronoiar like Bulgaria is ok, but get more than one and you very quickly become overwhelmed in vassel liberty desire. In my opinion, the pronoiars are really good when you're expanding through italy, diplomatically vassalizing the many opms there, then making them hereditary and forgetting about them for 10-20 years while you expand elsewhere. That's why in my run I went Espionage/Admin/Influence. Your army is already pretty good so its really not necessary to take a mil idea and you can reduce your AE by so much just by diplo vassalizing Italy instead of conquering it. Liberate nations like Parma, Modena or Padua who start with cores inside a larger nation, then diplo annex them too. Its really a nice, stress free way of expanding and while it may be slower than taking it yourself, its less coalitions you have to deal with. Also, I love how in this campaign, there are a few nations like the Knights whom you can use Support Rebels on to get free land. You can do it to Genoa's islands as well (to lesser success) and if you're really lucky you can support greek seps on Cyprus as well, who would flip to you if successful. You can also kick the butts of Genoa and Venice to get rid of the ship building time as well, which i'm always in favor of. Really love the new Byzantine mission tree. Feels like theres so many different ways of approaching general expansion paths and i'm always a fan of those "Expand->Consolodate->Reinforce" missions like Corintar's in Anbennar.
All you have to do is patrol to stop the knights from raiding, because you dont need the whole navy for Epirus. Then the knights will always ally after that war if you improve just a little. easy peasy.. ALSO, the money from Serbia scales with your relation: 150 relations = 100 ducats, 200 relations = 250 ducats
in my campaign i was able to get austria and hungary as allies and i got sooo lucky because the ottomans declared war on albania who called in serbia and venice. so i effectively had serbia, venice, albania, austria, and hungary in my war. as a bonus i was able to quickly take out serbia who was only allied with albania
I found byzantium to be even easier than in previous patches. Especially big alliances early on are no issue anymore. And the new vassals are op since you can easily circumvent the dev requirement. I usually made them into the new vassal type just before a peace deal where I gave them a lot of their cores.
Maybe a bit of an exploit. But you can send one of each of your lights to hunt pirates in Ragusa and Constantinopol trade nodes and The Knignts won't be able to raid you.
I'm more than 100 years behind you, but I have only 5000 hours in eu4, so it's acceptible :D But it's a lot of fun, I actually managed to PU Burgundy, Moscow and England and I have my dynasty on Portugal's throne, but they didn't fell into my trap yet.. Can't wait for my Persia and Mamluk runs :)
wait, you get more warscore if you're over force limit? wtf every time i watch a zlewikk video i learn some esoteric eu4 fact i've not known after 1000 hours of play
I never fix the army before the war, it’s fairly easy, just ally Hungary and the Pope and get 20 favors with the pope. Then reduce opinion of ottos and you got 2 strong Allie’s in the war, have army + 4 mercs, ideally be mil 5 before the ottos and you can get all your cores back, a bit of the coast in Anatolia and the money to repay debts. The main problem for is after all this, all the revolts every 2 months is so fucking bullshit….
Bruh, you get all the morale back just from missions, the you add merc generals and or Skanderbro to get better leader than ottos. Than you account for the AI being dumb and keeping their forces in Candar/Dulkadir, strait crossing shenanigans and it's an easy W for Byz.
Oh Zlewikk, I realised when you allied Ragusa that they were about to become full-annexed by Venice. Wouldn't you consider more optimal to wait until that happens so that the Ottomans turn into the war leader? That way you can get two 100% deals in about five years.
@@ZlewikkTV Yes, it may not be completely consistent, you are right. Although they were allied only to the Pope who didn't honour the call against you, so it might be a common occurrence.
U can ally knights very easly use one Trade ship to hunt pirates in ragusa and constantinopol After war with epirus if u have big enough army Or just before war with otto when u have mercs already recruted they are threatend (without using any diplomants on them) and with their and Albanian fleet u dont have to wait for our own galleys.
If you trade favors for trust with austria you could have asked them to help against poland at 47:00 i think Great video, well played, nice management !
Small Tipp you seem to be unaware off: you can sort province's in the peace deal tab by receiver. I don't know if that only applies to return core, but it definitely applies to return cores
I noticed that you do not take a lot of war reperations/money from your enemies! Is it in order to speed up video production by having fast expanding wars or is there a gameplay reason behind it? :D
Oh no! Zmarnował 10% z 200 many wydanej na to corowanie. Te 20 admin pkt to taki absurdalny gamechanger :v Tutaj tylko pasuje jeden meme: OH NO... ANYWAY :p
27:03 i actually got that event but the one i got seemed to be on the ottoman side, so i only got buffs. I think it's because i took kocaeli Also 34:13 idk if they changed it or something, but the advisors just leave your court now, you can hire them back without firing them
I've played eu4 without any dlcs for 58 hours. Do you have any suggestions on how to play successfully? My best game was spain Colonial Empire with 200 income, but it was on very easy mode. Im new to the game btw.
So 10% CCR out of 200 mana points for these is... 20 adm mana. You are aware how absurd this amount is from the point of 70 years covered here? ;) I can think of one meme here: OH NO... ANYWAY
Thanks for the campaign! Isn't spawning bulgarian rebels after the ottoman war and just conquering it for yourself (because of the trade node) better than releasing Bulgaria?
I find this strat not really necessary and eay too much RNG based (I did test it). You did see that in my strat it's just 8 years of truce, while you need more than that to spawn the rebels and get thw to occupy everything. Then it's very likely that they get attacked by Hungary Venice and other shit which will reoccupy the provinces
Easy ways to ally the Knights, if you really want to, is to guarantee them day 1 and improve during the first war with Epirus. This usually prevents them from raiding you long enough to get the Alliance.
Oh It's ofc normal ironman. I dont see a reason to play vh while most (95%+) of viewers play on normal. This would be useless otherwise. Also, vh does not change how stupid AI is. When I need a vh challenge, I just play mp ;)
@@ZlewikkTV Thanks for answering! I was wondering what I did wrong until I noticed I can't ally anyone and it reminded me that I play on VH. And yes, AI is still very stupid but so am I! I haven't been playing Byzantium for a long long time, so maybe that explains why I keep struggling. Or maybe just play on normal for once and have some fun :)
Personally, I don't like when streamers take the worst option/no option because of RNG. It's part of the game and I'm happy to see someone else get lucky. Also, RNG is something we all must adjust to, so seeing how you adjust can be enlightening.
I believe you can get rid of the army priviledge with the dev strat from absolute habibi(a mission reduces the amount of dev and troops you need and another requirement to complete it) but this seems less rng reliant, I do wonder how you can get the Ottos to attack someone else first always. I guess alliances deter the Ottos from declaring on you first cause they see the Beyliks or trebizond as a more attractive target.
There is a free music pack called "Europa Universalis IV: 10th Anniversary Community Music Pack". It includes 10 songs one of which is from Anbennar, so you are correct!
22:00 The Ottoman army still got stackwiped without you hiding your ships, then waiting for their army to cross the straight and blocking it again, right? Why do people hide their navies if you can just stackwipe the enemy regardless?
@@ZlewikkTV Oh ok for Warscore purposes. Your army wiping the enemy naturally before the 15 days of compulsory battle is over = Warscore The enemy getting wiped due to being unable to retreat but after 15 days = No warscore?
