Heathcliff fascinates me more with each passing day. He is simple... but not dumb. He might not realize he cares, maybe he does not want to, but cant help it. He is a person who wont sit here waiting for someone to "do something" when situation was wrong - hell he'd get mad for people holding back from doing "the thing". And he gets especially restless when situation involved tension in air, showing he's tuned yo emotional empathy. All sinners seem to be complete misfits - but they can resonate through their flaws. Don and Heath both share impulsive instinct to act upon whats right, without thinking consequences. Passive YiSang values joys in sights and fragrances, bliss from seeing smiles and peace on people's faces, like lively, steadfast Rhodya. Even sociopathic Meaursault seems to speak common language with Faust when it comes to logic. For ishmael, heathcliff seems to find common language with her pretty much exactly when they both display resentment. Both Ish and Heath have deep, deep grudges - and when they show their worst, they are on same wavelenght. Both so isolated from other sinners as 'outcasts', they may sunconsciously perceive each other as the one person they "have something in common with". This connection is important - bonds are born from understanding. I also started reallizing that heath is indeed a romantic in disguise, speaking of emotions coming from the primal source. I'm sure he walked in on the conversation to tell Ish that she's overreacting because he DOES care, HOWEVER, she touched the one deepest wound that he could not let go. First, He quietly, sharply, growly warned her to cease with this eerily tone-less, cold voice - so unlike his usual self - and when she continued, he just saw pure red. He threw hinself at her with fists - not to kill, with weapon, but as pure display of unbridled rage. In the book, he's been adopted into a rich family and raised into a posh, noble man. He and daughter of the family fell in love with each other... however, pressured, despite feeling love to him, she rejected him and married another rich guy. In book, Heath devoted his whole life into revenge: marries into the other family and gain influence, slowly taking control to bring both families to ruin, trying to hurt his former lover by taking away everything, even her childrens' happiness, so that they may never be together with who they love. Unlike book Ahab who never faced reallization that it was his own obsession that caused the crew to die, and to the very death pinned all blame on a tangible "monster", (ultimately dying thanks to his own harpoon shot at the whale, its line tangled around his leg and thus dragging him undertone); Heathcliff seems perfectly aware that he is responsible for the destruction wrought. He merely seems to truly believe that betrayal he experienced absolves him from fault, the revenge he enacts being "rightfully deserved". This ALSO leads to my speculation that Heathcliff actually knows etiquette and all the posh stuff - he just resents it so much he does not want to be associated with it ever again, preferring the life of a street outcast. You are now imagining Heathcliff clean, combed and in a suit. You're welcome.

Ishmael in her rant describing the horrors of what the great lake is sounds eerily familiar to how one group of sailors died with the exception of one survivor after investigating islands the group came across in Call of Cthulhu. What if the next chapter starts off with the Moby Dick story as scattered journal entries the Sinners come across before it devolves into a H.P.Lovecraft horror journey halfway through? It would explain why Ishmael talks about the sea as this horrifying spot and why killing off the whale is so important.

I love Ishmael saying they should study the whale's characteristics because that's what you do in some chapters of her book lmaoooo, I love that reference

Heathcliff is surprisingly caring for others. In chapter 4 he saves Gregor by kicking him out of explosive robot range. He also tells Dante to prioritize healing Don before him after the said explosion.

Seeing Don's hopes and dreams get crushed 15 separate times this event was unexpected. All the poor girl wanted to do was play some beach bally burrrr with her friends but mom and dad keep fighting :(

Holy shit, that Heathcliff line diliverly on saying that he and Ish are the same. I don't even know what the emotion behind it is. Sympathy that someone holds the same rage? Disappointment, that he thought people could be better? Just bitterness and Sadness? And Ishmael seeing her own face in a pudle and just recoing from it in horror. Holy shit P.S.: Yi Sang doesn't need to be taugh about games of the Ball variety, he almost took the 4Chan cup home, so he is good.

For as hostile and edgy Heathcliff is, he really does care for everyone goddamn. I fully expect Canto 5 to reveal that the whale is already dead and it casues Ish to distort and be the final boss of that chapter.

If anyone ever gets a roland ID, it BETTER FUCKING BE HEATHCLIFF. Seriously, that whole moment at the end of the confrontation where he talks about how dissapointed he is in ishmael for being just like him and everyone else in the city was oozing roland energy. Not to mention, he has wife issues.

Honestly I'm really loving the event, outside drama notwithstanding. Ishmael and Heath are on point here, both coming from frustrating but really understandable positions. Ishmael is SUPER pissy this event, but it makes sense, she clearly has a lot of trauma from her time on the sea, and truth be told, the sea is a terrifying place to be, even when you aren't dealing with horrific sea monsters and tuna tsunamis. Her trepidation and anger here make perfect sense, but so too does the genuine care that Heath seems to have for his allies. He's grown a lot over these last few chapters, and while I don't think our group fully regard each other as friends, I feel like Heath has attached to them a lot more than he lets on. I think when Ishmael insinuated that everyone is only here for themselves, that really hurt him, because I imagine he probably doesn't hold many people that close, and the sinners are probably the closest thing he currently has to family. As for other character highlights, Yi Sang is absolutely precious this event, poor baby trying to get mom and dad to stop fighting, I stg he must be protected. Don continues to be a light for the group and Beach Volleyburr is my new favorite limbus quote. Outis is always on point with the ass-kissing but continues to show that she has an incredibly broad spectrum of valuable talents, and as angy as our little fish is right now, I think it was genuinely heartwarming that Ishmael offered herself and Outis as mentors to help Dante be more self-sufficient. The group really should be more cautious of Dante's mortality, and I wouldn't be surprised if our safety ends up being a major concern next chapter.

This is highly irrelevant and just me noticing weird stuff. There is something interesting here with the dynamic between the two beaches mirroring how beaches in very touristy areas often work. The good parts with the soft sands and clean waters, all that typical beach experience can just be locked behind an entry fee if a resort decided that they want it for themselves. Technically, all citizens of the country can use the beaches but sometimes there are areas where private businesses can cordon it off and lock it behind an entry fee. What we see in The City is more an extreme and perverse version of that

In Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff and Cathy had a mutually obsessive and destructive romantic affair until Cathy went off to marry a rich man, pushing Heathcliff to devise a plan to destroy her, her family, her marriage, and the children born of her marriage with the other man. When Ishmael jabs at Heathcliff for 'whining about his girlfriend', she's referring to Cathy, however she might be in Limbus. ... We've seen her in illustrations from the TGS promo trailer. Limbus Cathy seems to be a redhead, just like Ishmael is. Make of this info whatever you'd like lmao

For all Ishmael's fears, I do believe in the bus's plot armor. Not because we as Dante have to live and see more of the City's fuckery, but because Vergilius wouldn't allow danger to come near Charon. So watch this: when we take off, it'll be so calm the only storm would be Ishmael torn apart by the question of "HOW?".

Damn it PM. They really know how to tug at your heartstrings. They made you root for Yi Sang when he intervenes to defuse the argument from earlier and when he shows interest in bonding with the Sinners in the volleyball game, showcasing his growth from chapter 4. Which only makes this confrontation between Ishmael and Heath even more painful when he remarks that he has to watch yet another group of fellows fight amongst each other, as if history was repeating itself again. I felt so bad for Yi Sang in this scene man, I legit wanted to give him a hug.

I'm really interested to see what Ishmael is so afraid of especially since she's seen what the sinners can do firsthand and is still this cautious whatever it is it will probably be the sinners toughest battle yet.

Why do i have a feeling that the crew gets eaten by a whale and that Heath is the one to save Fishmeal. Can see him beating up a seemonster from the inside since hes up in Canto 6.

I love Heathcliff's performance for this chapter. Every line was spoken as if the actor himself was in the situation. Its so raw like that. On another note Yi Sang's reaction to Heath and Ish fighting got really close to home for me. IDK why.

I think the funniest part of the Volley Burrr scene is the dynamic between the music, Yi-Sang, Don, and Ishy. My second favorite scene from this event.

I really love Yi Sang in this chapter the most. He starts to be active and responsive with the group, trying his darn best to calm his new compatriots. It's nice to see him gotten some life back. On the other hand, I don't like Ishmael so much just because of how she's being a debby downer here (I know she's traumatized and all, but shit even Gregor doesn't go and bring others feeling shit) And I can't wait to meet this giant whale as well, seeing massive creatures is just awesome in general.

I like seeing that moment at the end of the episode where Dante steped up and try to resolve the situation it makes me wonder what kind of leader he will be at the end of the story.

This whole bit really does show why Ishmael's Snagharpoon is fueled by Gloom and Wrath, and why Compulsion, it's passive, works the way it does (powering Ishmael up in helpful situations but making her worse in bad ones).

El chapter was really good but I feel Dante could have countered ishys points so easily and stopped everything with logic if he essentially dumb. Here’s he points to address ishys arguments: -the weather gonna fuck us over: then how the hell did you get here? And without revives??? If you can be in that sea without revives and get to places that means Dante perhaps won’t even need to revive! That’s how easy it’ll be!! -People going mad and possibly distorting: yea that’s because you permanently lost someone, we can’t lose people unless they go overboard (I’ll get to that later). That distortion problem won’t be a problem here. -go collect other boughs: my brother, Ishmael is NORMAL, we don’t have any easier boughs than this one. You think your normal ass bough gonna compared to ryoshus or heaths or whatever the fuck is outises backstory? It’s this bough or none at all. For canto 1 the people used some sleep spell which reviving can’t counter. You can’t use that cug. -sinking/weather: if shit goes to shit remember we have that out of reality safe space on the back of the bus.
