As the days go by, I find myself longing for a space just so I can wrench on my car and work on projects that make me happy. We use to be able to afford this. Now it seems like I need to make 6 figures just to be able to afford to buy a 2 bedroom house in the middle of nowhere.

100% agreed. I work way too much to even have time and motivation to wrench on my own car. It’s relaxing to watch RU-vidrs do this since it’s their only job.

2008 was so much worse than this. It was really worse than the depression. When we bought our house mortgage rates were 11.5% and I was making $9 an hour. You have to sacrifice if you want it. The first 5 years we went out to dinner 3 times a year. Our respective birthdays and our anniversary. My wife didn’t work and we have 2 kids. You just need realistic expectations. Your first house payment should be around 30% of your gross income. I have friends in California that is 45% of their gross income. There are towns that will pay you to move there, some will give you a house. Just keep refinancing as the rates go down and build up equity. It’s not fast but it’s how everyone has done it except for about a 10 year period. Try to get it paid off before you retire. If you can’t your buying to much house. ✌️ ✌️

Honestly Devin, seeing you have all of these struggles with small little things that most people would not ever consider doing has to be one of the most relieving and humbling things I've seen lately especially on today's internet were everything seems like it goes right with no issues. Hate to see you struggle but also love to see it as it helps me to know I'm not the only one to struggle with similar issues

Believe you got a pump issue and not a rack issue friend, pressure is to high, I recommend revisiting that pump rebuild can’t see the rack being the problem after being rebuilt this many times.

Most civic hatchbacks I've seen tint the back in two parts. One half for the top portion, another for the bottom portion that you were struggling with. The cut and tint overlap is right under the lower wing and you can't even notice it.

It's like I said in the last video, A friend of mine keeps a separate piece of glass just for these civics that he shrinks the tint on before going onto the car. I know there is no need for you to go this way but he said it made a much bigger for him on these generation civics. He also runs his own tint shop and has the tint cutter for specific types of windows which is a great advantage but take heart that this specific window isn't the easiest from what he has told me. (Im a type R owner)

When I tinted windows years ago the guy taught me to use a wet rag to put a line down the center, left side, right side, and across the middle. Then when you put the tint on the window to shrink it go over where you “cleaned” the soap/dryer sheet stuff to create 4 sections and focus on each one individually

You probably have to look really closely at the seals 🦭 on the power steering rack. Get someone to turn the wheel while you try to see where the fluid is escaping. Are there any scrapes or gauges holding the seal up in spots? There could be hairline cracks you can see so easy. The shop that rebuilt it may have seen this problem before maybe they missed something. Ask them what they think is the problem.

Rear window film in both the 10th Gen and 11th Gen Civics is a pain if you're new to tinting. Messed mine up too and I tried twice. I hear its harder on FK8 than it is on the FL5 but no experience personally. You'll get it eventually.

Rebuild Koyo Power Steering Rack (AWS) Jafromobile 146K subscribers Special tool needed to compress seals on rack. Mentions that hose clamps and an aluminum can will work. Not an evo rack but likely made by same company for any DSM. I would post link but most times those are deleted.

So this is my profession is tint and those back glasses are tough to shrink if ur new to it. Tape up the holes and leave the bottom long to pull shrink the film

steering racks are usually honed and chrome plated from inside while rebuilding them. I guess those guys only replaced seals in the same way you did

Have you tried attacking from the crease part first? I mean from the bottom up not from up to bottom? Maybe that will help. What I mean help is, if you fuxked up the crease part once again you can alway just cut the burn part and slide down the tint. Don't cut the Ecses part from the top glass just yet until you 100% sure about it.

Buy a cutter and order the templates for tinting the windows. Seems like the pump is over pressurizing causing the seals to blow out like others have stated.

Since your wanting to learn how to shrink film, try to learn how to shrink the film with a soft cotton glove instead of using a hard card. It's more forgiving with the creases. I suggest to try it when you tint the front windshield. Manipulate the film by slight tugging on the edges of the film while your applying heat. It will allow the film to lay down alot nicer and avoiding it from creasing. Straighting out the fingers as well while your shrinking.

It's just another method of shrinking, some ceramic film will have some distortion after shrinking it with the hard card for some reason. That's why I suggested using the glove for the front windshield.

could have told you should made the shrinking into quadrants and also smaller fingers are better then 1 large fingers to shrink and when its not shrinking move the finger on an area that you havent use to shink as much, grab a piece of scrap tint and apply heat to it you will see that max amount of time you can shrink it after you see the steos prior to it not shrinking anymore you will understand when to move the finger over to a different spot

mint tint shops use a laser machine to cut the tint to the vehicle window size, the rear how ever will always be a pain to deal with especially with the defrosters

If you keep putting too much heat on the window tint and burning it four times in a row I feel like maybe you should just apply less heat. Maybe if you take it out in the hot ass sun and just let the sun heat it up and you form it to the back window may be good too. What do I really know? I just feel like doing the same thing over and over again and and expecting a different result is just crazy. And after three or four power steering racks, I would honestly do what everybody else is saying and start looking into other components that may affect that issue because there’s no way it has failed that many times something else has to be causing that. I’m just ready to move on from the window tint and the power steering rack on something else.

You found someone like Val but that does tint. Once you are shown how it’s done it’s just practice. When I learned to detail I went and bought hoods from the junk yard. Practice on something easy with cheap film, you were trying to jump ahead 10 steps.

You have to form it to the window on the outside to fit and then transfer it over to the inside. It's how most tint shops do it. But back windows are the biggest pita and if you have to remove it from the inside with defrost lines, Good luck, it sucks. A Steamer's the best way to remove rear tint btw to not destroy the defroster.
