With the release of the Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection a lot of die hard fans we're hoping for some features to return like the Chip Gate compatibility and sadly that wasn't the case. So here's a quick rundown on these features and how they worked!

Of course it would be awesome if they re release this again but i can imagine how it would be a huge fail especially because gaming industry has abandoned "toys to life" For quite a long time

Having it actually use the toys to life concept wasn't what I was expecting but I was hoping for some kind of operation battle mode where you can load chips from a deck and still have the Navi use them or like I said in the latter half of the video a way to always be beast out and level up the link Navi and use them for pvp

I think they just should have added the ability to hot key some chips to buttons, considering GBA has 4 buttons that arent directional or start/select. It feels like cut content, especially to those that loved the chance to own a PET and feel part of the world slightly more immersively.

I don't mind the chip gates for 4,4.5, and 5 not being patched in with the patch card system but it burns that they didn't do it for the Beast gate for BN6 cause a good chunk of BN6's post game was locked behind the beast gate.

Fun fact - you can use a graphite pencil to connect combos of the chips' pins to make just about every chip that was released and there were and hopefully still are guides online.

There's a fan that makes a chip that pretty much lets you make it into any chip it's really cool and is easier than using a pencil

I hope Capcom officially updates the collection to add this back in. I think they could do something similar to their Patch Card menu but for the Chip/Link Gate stuff.

Though, I have it on Switch, which is why I would prefer an official update rather than a PC mod. But, a mod would still be good if Capcom never do it, then I might end up getting the PC version later.

Part of me really hates the monetization that comes with the physical add-on era, but man... As a kid this was just mind blowing, and it'd be so cool to whip them out for this again. I wonder how it'd pan out if they actually put some resources into fascilitating this again, maybe even put some chips in production again. We've still got amiibos, but other than that, it seems this has fallen out of favor. I remember the good old days, excited for my mom to buy a bag of chips cause they'd come with a shitty little plastic beyblade top or a flippo... The little coins I'd get with my Pokemon cards etc., it'd definitely be amazing if they even just program the support into the game and make us figure out the adapter for ourselves etc. Just the other day a bag of chips had a card packaged in plastic, covered in grease and bits of chips, seeing and feeling that just brought back the memories.

Haha I appreciate that! Believe it or not I have actually been collecting MegaMan stuff longer than Digimon! It was a LOT cheaper to get a hold of stuff back in the day compared to now. You can still find some good deals here and there from time to time though!

Man, how the hell did we play with such a tiny screen? On another note, I got the collection on switch(physical version), and switch games look like battle chips. You know I said "jack in, megaman, execute" when I put that game in.

Just ordered my copy online through gamestop. It should arrive sometime this week. This feature however, is new to me because i haven't heard about the chip gate add-on before.

The Japanese versions of the game are in the collection and even shares saves with the American versions so most likely the function is there

The gimmick was too cumbersome to implement, that's why they didn't add it. In order to emulate it you'd have to use sub-menus, and at that point, emulating the Chip gates is the same thing as playing the regular game, just with extra steps. It's a gimmick that only works physically, and since only Japanese users really have the chip gates, they didn't see the need to try and make an adapter for the peripheral.

I take it the progress gate doesn't work with MMBN5DS? I just have Advance (MegaMan) and Progress (ProtoMan) PETs, I don't have any gates

(Idea) A battle chip gate that is either bluetooth or has usb C. It could plug into either the switch itself or a pro controller. New Battle chip booster packs that are compatible with all 10 games english and japanese. A new PET would be cool too, since digimon frontiers had a super csa digivice. They could do the same with Megaman.

As a kid it was my dream to have my own net Navi, they really missed out on the money they could have made if they actually made a real PET device that comes with a few possible generic Navis and a built in sprite editor that allows us to make our own custom Navi appearances while generally looking and feeling like your typical battle network game

I got all the battle gates. I also got a GBA cartridge with ALL the Battle networks with ALL the Eastern content that was cut from the Western releases including Battle network 4.5 fully translated and it can function with ALL battle gates. Crapcom couldn’t get me to buy theirs when fans already delivered a superior game. Idc about the online features I’m not into fighting basement dwellers who will put 2000+ hours into pvp alone with lock folders rofl.

I'm going to draw a conclusion that these gates are for 4 threw 6 and I have a suggestion to why this hapend. The 499 patch card's have these chips included. So the Gates in the digital format were no longer required. I'm not sure if this answer's your question but I hope it helped.

Well, that WOULD be cool, but... it would be difficult to do on the hardware it is on... I mean, they COULD make it for the current hardware, but I imagine they don't want to invest THAT much in an anthology... likely why patch cards are a thing for some features. But also a missed opportunity to try an incorporate 4.5 Real Operation... but again, probably didn't want to put effort into localization for that.

I was mostly hoping for it to work like patch cards since it's emulating the E reader I don't think it would have been too hard to emulate at least the beast link so we could play as protoman in 6 :(

These devices are so cool, but I imagine playing with these that I would be disorganized and the chips would all be out of order, like looking for the chip you need lost in a pile. 😵‍💫

Yea the competitive battle scene will stay on emulator cause it has rollback also if you play bn6 on mgba it has a gate emulator with every chip included

Ok here me out. What if they make amiibo cards. That way the player can recreate the feel of changing chips without the need for an add on. Nintendo makes money and we get the additional content. It's a win-win.

Honestly, this would only work with the Nintendo Switch version through Amiibo support. This would be very difficult to implement through PC (Steam) or PS4. I can't think of any way they could use this on any of the other versions without them using a wired NFC reader for 'chip' cards that contain NFC chips in them (otherwise known as Amiibo cards.)

2 solutions: pull a Skylanders and make a USB peripheral that would work with it Or, alternatively, connect your phone to your device using the internet and you can do it that way. That second one sucks a bit because of the internet part, but those are the two best ideas that I have if they every did want to put it in

Was just thinking about it too. I'm thinking that a modern MMBN could make good use of NFC cards. Cheaper to manufacture and less unreliable compared to chips. Then again, I guess that's more on the realm of SF. If digimon is making a comeback, I wonder if BN will too?

@@Xanaxdu Brooo. The new manga chapters and the commercials messed me up. Genuinely teared up. We've all grown up now but are pretty much kids at heart. Even Mr. Famous himself, this collection was an act of love and I hope that Capcom sees that the people have been wanting new games for years. Agreed with you too, wouldn't make sense to make a new mmbn with lil Lan and the rest of the gang. SF is fun and all but I prefer BN too, so having Patch take the lead would be pretty fun. Maybe as a sort of in-between for BN and SF?

@@CelestialAmethyst92 at first I understood why operation shooting star wasn’t in the collection… then I looked at the gallery… the crossovers art was put into the legacy collections gallery. So it’s existence was obviously on their mind, they just opted to have the original version, even though the QoL features in shooting star alone make it a far superior version. On that note even Battlechip Challenge artwork is featured.

Such Toys are useless since the collection is not online nintendo exclusiv anymore and it would be hard to build that it works on all plattforms.... also you would need to upgrade the game, so you can complete play storymode with that, if it should be cool :) instead of the ingame-ship-folder

I laugh at you people who buy this collection. 60$ for DENUVO when you could easily play with roms and emulators AND keep all of the original functionality... Fans even made online connection mods that let you play online versus. As things are, Vol2 is absolutely WORTHLESS.
