We heard you wanted it back. So here it is. You ready? Fingerprint os 2.o2se3.0! For the first time. We have decided to go beyond the competition and put it on the screen. Whoa magic.. I know. lol
It is, it was included in the Qualcomm keynote years ago and is available to all Snapdragon equipped phones for 3 years now. My Sharp Aquos R6 has this feature
It will only happen if the smartphone has a big fingerprint scanner. Just like how AOD needs an Amoled display. If you have an Amoled display, you will get most of the display features.
I can see crazy girlfriends using this in their favor by making one thumbprint from the bf and the other of themselves. Guys won't be able to unlock their phones without their gf's authorization 😂
I do have a Vivo v27 (not a pro one) but I have experienced its fast fingerprint reader. Also the shocking part is... it scans on a matte screen which I've applied aftermarket, and it still does outstanding work, can't believe Vivo is quite Improved
Seems like a good time to remind everyone (at least in the US) that fingerprint locks are not legally secure. Police can use your prints to access your phone. Use a passcode ONLY, even Face ID isn’t legally protected.
@@ko-Daeguyes/no. Theyd still need a warrant which would need probable cause. They can also get this same warrant for your normal phone that might have a passcode where they can also legally access that. The difference is youre the holder of that key and you dont have to tell them it
@@lucynatas8458 you say "your passcode can be found" as if everyone just has their very easily to remember 4-6 digit passcode written down somewhere on a piece of paper in their bedroom lol
That's clever. It would increase the number of possible variations so even if someone were to cut off your fingers and try to unlock it, they'd lock the device from incorrect attempts by the time they reach the correct combination. Is it 1 finger? Is it 3 fingers? Is it 2 fingers? If so, which 2 fingers? Would be even more ridiculous if someone comes up with an even more complex version where you have the option to make the phone check the order of fingers as well. So, say that you kept 2 fingers X and Y....then will finger X be on the left of Y, or the other way around? 😂😂😂😂😂
@@TakumisBizarreRacingAdventure you definitely need this 🧐 Also, the F.B.I should keep a close eye on you. I don’t know what you did but you’re a suspect for thinking this way.
I would love to see TouchID return but also that dual auth is dope. TouchID + FaceID at the same time would add that extra layer of security and still be pretty low impact on the user. Maybe power button TouchID since it’s already used to activate the wallet.
@@9akiama I don’t just mean biometrics, I also mean passwords and hardware keys and using any combination of those authentication methods. It basically kills over the shoulder attacks in public and fingerprint forcing/copy attacks like what police do.
To be completely honest, the lack of touchID is the only reason I haven't tried or switched to iPhone. I don't like face I'd on any phone and I hate constantly typing in a code.
@@familyden4640 I have an S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra neither of them have this feature. What they have is an option called Secure Folder that you can lock separately from your main folders with a fingerprint scan or pin. They've had that since the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
My elderly mum has an s23 and the ultrasonic sensor just doesn't work for her. My pixel 8 which has an optical scanner works fine with her fingers. Even the face unlock doesn't work for her, really disappointed, the biometrics are a huge downgrade over her old S9. That thing had iris unlock, face unlock, and a good old fingerprint scanner.
@@filip.a. Yeah of course newer is better, I'd just like to know what their acceptance levels for false positives and false negatives are. It would be nice to have those stats or some certification proving that your device is still suffeciently secured to some standard. It's just weird to me to promote a newly improved advanced system and only give one metric.
I really miss rear fingerprint readers. It was just so easy to unlock my phone as I picked it up or took it out of my pocket. My index finger just naturally found the fingerprint reader and by the time I brought the phone up in front of my face it was unlocked. The only way an under-screen reader is better is if you want to unlock your phone without picking it up. I almost never do that. Unfortunately, I don't know of any flagship phones with a rear sensor. I say bring them back. I'd say to install both but that is very unlikely to happen because of price and space constraints.
100%, my old xiaomi's rear fingerprint reader was substantially easier to get to and more reliable that my Samsung's under the display one, even after using my s21 for over 2yrs I still find the rear a more intuitive place to place my finger rather than the middle bottom 5th-ish of my phone screen. The power button fingerprint reader was also one I liked quite a bit too.
@@davidbenning10 Doesn't android already have the option to register 5 fingerprints. You can register five different fingerprints if you're paranoid about losing a finger.
That last feature is great for if someone cuts off your finger to get access to your important phone stuff only to realize they need to cut off the other one as well so they just go back and take both hands just in case.
If someone is going to cut your fingers off to access your phone they probably have quicker and more brutal ways to convince you to just give them your files.
@@fablewallsit’s more so that it’s harder to pickup your fingerprint. It’s plausible to have a single good print of your thumb and fingers from one hand on your device somewhere but unlikely to have two good prints from each hand as the only time someone uses two thumbs on their phone is typing, which isn’t a full print since it’s more precise and it will have numerous overlapping prints. Compared to 4 standard fingers on the back which are generally full prints
Reminds me of the iPhone 4-8 days. That was honestly one of my favorite parts about those phones. I could scan my finger in my pocket as I was pulling the phone out. And it would be up and open by the time I was looking at it.
Glad to see improvement in screen fingerprint stuff....have hated most of them, and have been loving the sensors placed in the side power switch on Samsung's Flips, for years now.
I have no idea why no phone manufacturer thought of a “picture of fingerprint” kind of thing so you can quick tap instead of it reading it for 30s. I’m sure that’s tricky but we have folding glass now.
Samsung's fingerprint scanner that's built into the power button on the Z Fold 4 is perfect in my opinion. Just as fast as the one in this video. Shocking that they were able to get an under display scanner to work this fast.
A phone could have dual FP scanners , one on the side and the other on the back or under screen, would be cheaper and more convenient than this giant one
Dual fingerprint reader is absolutely awesome 😎💯✊🏾. Unlocking your phone with such ease with a fingerprint reader comfortably touching a huge surface area is awesome.
My question would be how secure that fingerprint based auth is. If i had to guess how they simplified it is that the cost is much lower fidelity and so could be tricked much easier to let someone else in, even by accident if his fingerprint is close enough.
Any modern fingerprint/faceID solution can be bypassed by people who really want to. Just like iCloud-locked smartphones can be unlocked by third-party tools in hours. Nothing is as secure as we think it is but most people aren't important enough for criminals to waste the time on.
This is the world's most advanced mobile fingerprint scanner. It's just as secure as Qualcomm's other ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. In fact, it's even more secure because you can have two fingerprints at a time. The only reason it lets you in so fast is because the area of the sensor is so massive that you don't have to be precise when placing your finger.
@White exactly, but these are not Capacitive Sensors i guess. They are basically the Optical Sensors which are used in Cameras but of bigger size and it captures patterns on your finger when you touch it.
What’s funny to me, is that actually the idea about everyone’s fingerprints being absolutely unique is just a theory that was tested on a very small sample size.
Never use fingerprint readers. Even us law abiding citizens get pulled over by cops sometimes and the courts have ruled that fingerprint, iris detection, and facial recognition are not protected and the cops can literally force you to unlock your phone without a warrant. There is tons of cases of the cops unlocking phones with fingerprints of deceased 💀 people. However the courts have ruled that pin numbers are protected and they must retain a warrant to get in the phone.
That's the one feature that'd make me switch brands. Ever since under the screen fingerprint read was introduced I dreaded it. It's always so bad no matter what device I had
@@d2rr maybe my finger is messed up but when I switched from 5T to 6 (or 6T can't remember) 50% of the time I had to try again and then enter the password. Now with a Samsung S20+ I still have to enter my password every now and then
My 1st device with fingerprint was Note10+, and was finicky, and slow too recognize prints. Note 20 Ultra = huge improvement of reading prints, but yes, still needed have finger or thumb at the correct angle to be recognize. I intentionally positioned my finger and thumb is such a way as what was likely position of phone in my hand. This been working out well for me. The 2 print access seems really cool too me.
I think it was like the Huawei mate 7 or close to it when we first saw a really really snappy fingerprint sensor on a phone. A year later we were already seeing an explosion on fast fingerprint readers being added to phones and never looked back. This is promising news, means in 1-2 years, every new mid-top tier phone will have a more or less instant on-screen fingerprint reader!
Why though? If you're you, and one of your thumbs is attached to your body and always with you, doesn't it stand to reason that the other one is too? It's good if someone else is trying to gain access to your phone and only thought to cut off one of your thumbs I guess... 🤦♂️
And? What can they do with your fingerprint? Plus it is not like any other phone does not get your info... Do you think you are safe with Apple's face ID or other companies' software? The chinese getting your info argument makes people sound like xenofobian americans. The Iphone is assembled in China, which makes the hypocrisy even more surreal ahah. Chinese have their way of governing their country, which I personally do not agree of, but their tech drives the world forward in plenty of circumstances. Saying that your info is not safe just because the phone brand is chinese is bs. Plenty of Apple's services (including cloud) make use of China's tech. The "I am not buying from a Chinese brand", South Korean(Samsung) or American(Apple) smartphone brands are the real deal ends up not making any diference, there is a huge amount of hypocrisy in the way. Organizations at the end of the day are driven by their proffit and not by their moral claims...
Your most secure files should be password protected. You can legally be compelled by the police to unlock your phone via biometrics, but not by passwords. Don't shoot the messenger. Look it up.
You do realise that a passcode/password is a pre-requisite for registering a FP & the same is true even for most "Secure Folders/Private Safe", etc. You can also just put the phone in Lockdown mode, that way you won't be able to bypass even the lockscreen with a FP!
@@sushimshah2896 Just because one is needed when you set it up doesn't mean it's needed when youre sitting in a cell. I'd you have something specific you don't want the cops to see, it needs a fifth amendment protected lock. Your biometrics are not that.
Can we talk about how Marques threw the phone to himself in the beginning? I just picturing him sitting there tossing it up in the air over and over making sure it looks like someone tossed it to him while sitting alone in front of a camera. LOL
That duel fingerprint authentication is awesome. I once dated a girl that would open my phone with my thumbprint when I'm sleeping, just to go through my messages. I dont reckon she'd be able to do it with this feature without waking me up.
This looks awesome, but I can't help to think that they might have sacrificed some security to get it that quick and with that very fast setup. How could this be so far ahead of the competition otherwise?
As long as it gets a clear picture 1/10th of a second is a very long time for a computer. Especially when it's just looking to match one of two possible fingerprints
thinking security, anything biometric is a fail anyways as most countries will allow for warranted and oftentimes even warrantless entry to your devices with biometrics, aka the cops are allowed to just stick your finger on the thing and start snooping around. It's convenient, and it's definitely useful for protecting against general unwanted access, but anything you wouldn't want a good or bad cop looking at should get a long and non-guessable alphanumeric password, and you should know how to get your phone into a BFU state in a pinch (usually restarting, but that can demand a password, or with some brands a button combination does this, although not all will purge the decryption keys from memory)
@@justalonelypotetodude what are the chances that your phone will ever get seized by the cops? I’m more scared of someone stealing my phone and being able to unlock it, or someone in my environment taking it just to spy on me
And fingerprints are almost always a sacrifice of security, there’s a reason Apple no longer uses it. Just take a second to turn your screen off and hold it under some lighting, you will almost certainly see your fingerprints on your display somewhere. Get some graphene on there, take a piece of duct tape, and you can probably unlock the phone without even knowing to whom it belongs. For FaceID you’d have to accurately reconstruct the person’s face, it’s a lot more difficult
oh man, i thought these would improve with time but it wasn't sure, and my S10+ which ive had for some time now has always slightly frustrated me, making me wish back to the days of a button. but seeing the speed and ease of use here sure looks like its time for an upgrad.
