Disney really just doesn't know how to run a TV show and manage its budget. And they're hiring film directors who don't have the first clue about making a serialized television show.
$180 million and they couldn't give us the Wookie Jedi fight? Where is the money actually going? Because it's sure not going to sets, costume and the "acting" if that's what you want to call it.
I love how Disney has been teasing a wookie Jedi since before any of the other characters were revealed and then not only is he killed offscreen after less than 5 minutes of screen time that didn’t serve any substantial purpose, but they also fully filmed an action set piece with him that had gone through at least partial post production to get the FX up to snuff to put in the trailer, then cut it. This is called blatantly lying to your audience, which isn’t new to Disney (they’ve done it a lot in the MCU actually) but in the past it was minor dialogue changes and alternate versions of a scene with minor changes, not removing entire action pieces of one of the biggest promotional characters
Yea, I went from being fairly excited for the show's direction to 0 F's given as soon as I saw him in the chair. Then, I saw this NOW DELETED TWEET from the cowriter which drove my 0 F's given to the next level.
Yeah, that was my favourite part in the episode. Mae caught Qimir in a trap, nobody can stop her now and she's running to Kelnacca, and then seeing him dead already is one of the best storybeats in the show so far imo.
"Some public figures thought it was a bad choice." You mean most public figures thought it was a bad choice in the media industry. Even media reviewers who don't cover Star Wars, like John Campia, thought it was a terrible choice.
Lol this is too funny! Campea has always covered Star Wars and has been notorious for not liking most of Disney’s Star Wars content. This isn’t a surprising reaction from him of all people. However, I would agree that there is a lot of issues with the show. I just wouldn’t use Campea as some unbiased public figure when it comes to Disney’s Star Wars.
@@ethanporter5725Unbiased? How is it biased to say that Disney star wars fucking blows. I've given them chance after chance and yet every new project is severely under funded or over funded with shit writing
@@mrwhy9340 The person above used Campea as an outside perspective that doesn’t normally review Star Wars and therefore doesn’t have strong opinions on the franchise highlighting how even people who don’t look at Star Wars thought the choices were dumb. I merely pointed out that Campea has consistently disliked Disney’s Star Wars for years so he already has a bias for disliking the writing choices made in the show, just like you do it seems. I’m not arguing the quality of the show. I think Acolyte is a fairly weak TV show. But to say that Campea doesn’t have a bias when he states in his reviews that he hasn’t liked Disney’s Star Wars in years outside of Andor is being disingenuous. You clearly also have a bias for not liking the new Star Wars shows and movies whereas there are plenty of people who do love and admire the shows and movies. Nothing wrong with liking or disliking something. Everyone has their own opinions.
Off most of the issues I have with this show, his death was the least problematic for me. Yeah it was a bummer we didn’t see more of him, but hey, it did. managed to surprised my. The only time the show actually managed to do it. Not saying it’s necessarily a good thing tho
The budget part made no sense so I just thought it's more so episode duration and shifting POVs. Although a side view of that Dark force user lighting up his saber with Kelnaca at the front lighting his up would do just fine I think. At least it wouldn't cut away from the POV too much and the fight itself could be unveiled later.
The main thing I think is that Kelnacca's death should be a surprise to Mae and the viewers is important, and that moment of her finding him dead wouldn't feel right if we saw him battling the sith first.
@@garbotoxins840 That's kind of the point I was trying to make with the whole POV thing and honestly that would be a better explanation than budget issues.
My mom actually had me stop watching the Acolyte because she doesn't like the parts that most parents wouldn't, and I said, "you know what's funny about you not wanting me to watch the show anymore? I don't like it anyway"
@@user-op8fg3ny3j Critical Drinker's takes lately have been kind of ass though. Used to be respectable, nowadays he's just incredibly triggered and pathetic
Here’s the one thing that doesn’t make sense. If it’s related to budget, if you already film the scene, then all you have to do is place the clip from the rest of the- *It’s not rocket science!!*
@@internetzenmaster8952 No, she said that "not everything get's to be included for budget and story reasons" which means that a number of things/scenes didn't make it to the final cut due to either the first OR the second reason, depending on the scene. She didn't say that this specific scene was cut due to BOTH of these reasons but that this scene was cut due to story reasons, while other scenes may have been cut/excluded due to either budget OR story reasons.
@@internetzenmaster8952 She did. She said the specific reason they didn't have the Wookie fight the Sith is that it broke the episode's POV. Which is absolutely correct...introducing the main antagonist by having him have some sort of epic lightsaber duel with a character we have zero connection to would be dreadful storytelling.
@@aeschylus6250 How is that dreadful storytelling? So the alternative was better? Tell me exactly they built a connection with the method they decided to go with? We don't need to have an emotional connection to acknowledge a great fight wtf
These people could've made a show entirely about Kelnacca and made 50x their budgets from new D+ subscribers and merchandise sales. I really wanna know why seemingly every star wars writer/producer ever is allergic to the idea of a Wookie protagonist.
It brove the POV of the episode 😂. Also Disney: inadvertently retcons the universe at every new release, because they cant even stomach reading their own tripe
I agree that it is better this way story wise. I'd start the next episode showing his death, and follow Smylo Ren up until where the last episode ended.
Idk when you have a murder story going on about 4 Jedi masters and two of them die in a non combat role is pretty boring. Especially when the first episode so far is the only one with any action.
I understand not wanting to the break the POV they're going for, they should've stuck with that instead of adding the 'budget' excuse. People are already throwing the 'money laundering' accusation at the Acolyte for how the show *_does not look like $180 million_* was invested into it. Even if we consider the cost of reshoots, you'd think they'd try and touch up/make things look better during that than what we've got for the finished product. _Or at least have SOMEONE make it so the Padawans are using training lightsabers and not bloody sticks in Episode 4. We see YOUNGLINGS using training sabers in Episode 1 & 2, and there's no way they didn't have that technology in 132 BBY._
Some say, no, PREDICT, after seeing the Acolytes' trailer, that fight scene in the beginning (between Trinity and that chick) is the ONLY decent fight scene we'll ever see from this series.
Finally watched the First Episode today, and to say i was underwhelmed by it, it honestly putting it mildly. I didn't hate it but wasn't enthralled and wanting to see more of the story.
This reminds why Rian Johnson admitted that he did have Luke train Rey for a bit, but he scrapped it because he thought it would have ruined the story. 🤦♂️
That's a BS answer, last I heard, and I may be wrong, but weren't they given like 180 million dollars per episode or for all 8 episodes? I mean come on Godzilla was done on a budget of only 15 million. That's like only 9% of 180 million, there is no possible way, as far as budget goes, for that answer to make any sense.
Which is frustrating, because it means they're dedicating another episode from a different POV to what we saw in the (near-universally disliked) Episode 3, which won't redeem Episode 3 and will just make most people go: "WHY THE HELL ARE WE BACK HERE AGAIN?!" Burning 2 episodes in an 8 episode series for flashbacks is like the shoehorned Mando episodes in the middle of Book of Boba Fett. They ruin the pacing of the story and bring it down overall.
How do you even know this? Not saying it's not true but as of right now the next episode hasn't even come out yet. Or are you just assuming this? Either way it's bad writing and it ruins the pacing like the above comment says
They can call everybody Ists and Phobes if they want but they're just talking to themselves. Nobody is listening to them anymore. And nobody cares what they get called online anymore. It's childish to care what strangers think anyways and it's ridiculous to hinge your life on social media. Those people are a minority and they are losers and they are never going to amount to anything.
...I actually sympathize. Wookiees and their supposed fighting skills can tend to get overrated. Just give us the less familiar Lasat instead, or even the surprisingly fearmongering Ewoks too. But still, we really need to stop doing time constraint nonsense for half-hour eps. It's not like adding 30 seconds would make a 23+ minute episode go past 30 minutes or so... looking at you, Justice League Unlimited's "The Balance" cutting some repertoire between Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl about how the latter knew about Abrahamic angels (she read "the Book" a.k.a. the Bible).
I liked this scene so much. Up to this point The Acolyte for me was like "Oh I like it but anyways". It just didn't have anything that threw me off my chair. But seeing Kelnacca dead in the chair was like the first WTF moment in the show and when the episode ended I wanted to see more wich is definitley a good sign, 'cause that's exactly what a series should manage to do.
I usually agree with the fandom, but uhm. I really like this show? I mean I like the cinematography, the music, the story. But I guess I’m wrong. Sure the dialogue is a little wonky. But I really don’t understand where the hate is coming from.
this is the most nonsensical thing i ever witnessed with my eyes and ears seriously im not even slandering at this point this thing beyond sucks, you may as well just cancel the show
Personally I really liked the episode's ending, I thought it was really effective that Mae wants to turn herself in now after learning she was lied to, but when she's so close to her goal, she finds Kelnacca dead. It made the sith's entrance really impactful too, him floating down in the dark and force pushing everyone with ease was awesome. The reveal for Mae and the sith's entrance both would have been much weaker imo if they had a big fight with the sith and Kelnacca.
I don't understand why some are freaking out about this show. This is definitely not the series to be judging so soon. I am in full belief that many of these reasons will be resolved in upcoming episodes explaining them. As the video mentions, we know there is more that will be shown of Kelnacca.
Oh men, I totally agree with you. I don't know why people are so quick to hate the show, I mean for me the show is far from a 10/10, but still, it's extremely clear that the show still has a lot of story to tell. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that the one episode per week bullshit is the real doom of this show hahaha. Anyway, like I said, for me the show its mid, not god or bad (for know), but I will prefer to be patient and see what the show brings, and then draw any defenitive conclusions.
@domingoirarrazaval5589 that's totally reasonable. I personally like it so far with the expectation that a murder mystery is going to have some red herrings in it.
This show has potential i feel like most of the actual fights and some of the sets are actually really good, shame it was let down. This seems to be a recurring problem, Bobafett has some really good episodes only to be obliterated by that demonic chase seen. Andor S2 is my next hopeful for a good sw show. We should all be playing EAW in the meantime
The entirety of Godzilla Minus One was made with a budget estimated around 15 million dollars yet this tv series with over 180 million at their disposal somehow could not afford having a Wookie fight on screen.
You do realize Godzilla Minus One budget was lower because of overworking and treated the Vfx artists badly right? Also not seeing the Wookie fight was a story decision not budget reasons, plus it will ruined the surprise appearance of the Sith.
I do see how it's possible that the story threads they've set up could come together in a way that makes sense and doesn't end up screwing up SW canon. But I don't trust that the writers/producers of this show are good enough, or respect the ip enough, to pull that off.
Yall keep acting like the biggest mistakes Disney made are all in the acolyte. I stopped giving a crap after “the emperor came back somehow” and suddenly everything written for Star Wars felt like bad fan fiction. Although, in retrospect, I really should’ve stopped paying attention after The Force Awakens… would’ve been easier that way I suppose
