Florida is a winter wonderland for these Québécois snowbirds. They leave the Canadian cold behind for a totally French trailer park where no one speaks English - and everyone has a good time.
Long-time snowbirds Rollande, Yvette, Julien, Monique, Agathe and Nelson are all getting older, but still make the trip to Florida every year. They’re here to spent their winter days having fun in the sun.

Here I was thinking CBC promoted the idea that wanting to living amongst similar people was bad. "It is good because nobody speaks english here" Now ask their feelings about Anglophones in Quebec.

These retirees have the right idea. I’m sure they all have traditional homes back in Canada with lots of "things" but it’s the simple things and less distractions that bring pleasure . Like walking the beach and not having every moment of the day planned out. Meeting up with friends, enjoying a swim in the ocean, playing a boardgames with a neighbor or a glass of wine with friends. A lot people think having materialistic things will make them happy, when in fact It’s the time we share with one another that brings happiness and wonderful memories.

James I KNOW that people calling someone 'cute' is rarely, if ever, meant in a bad way, and perhaps I am just over-sensitive these days, coming up to full retirement, but....I have mixed feelings when I hear young people calling older people 'cute'. It almost feels as though they are dismissing seniors as being 'irrelevant' or not to be taken seriously. I may be the only one, but...well, does anyone else feel oddly uncertain when they are getting older & hear this? Just wondering. (I also enjoyed the video, James, & found the characters fascinating!)

Why hasn't French Canada split?

With 484 years of French culture in Québec, Québecers have been trying since the '80s to separate from Canada. The last referendum was in 1995 and the vote ended up 51% NOT to separate and 49% YES, to separate. With the political climate we have now, the influx of illegals crossing heavily over the New York state / Québec border, we are heading for the same direction once again. Only a matter of time... I much rather spend my winters in Cuba...love it there! When I retire, I'll join the many Quebecers that spend their winters there instead of Florida. ;-) Much cheaper than Florida.
