This Flower Farmer Is A Sell Out

Our flower farm is still producing thousands of Tulips, and this weeks farmers market is the first test of whether we can still sell out of Tulip bouquets without Mothers Day to create a lot of demand for flowers. This week there is no holiday, it is just a regular weekend, so our Tulips have to sell on their own merit, but don't worry, because once again every bouquet is stunning. This week Serina even goes foraging for greenery to make some larger $40 arrangements, in addition to the more simple $20 Tulip bouquets. There might be a late night as we push hard to maximize sales at our second farmers market of the year. Watch as we push ourselves to bring 50 fresh bouquets down to the market, as well as a nice selection of dried flowers that have been selling really well! This video was a lot of work, so if you enjoy it, let us know down in the comments!

Ian and Serina of YOU CANT EAT THE GRASS feel that every small change can make a big difference to the world we live in. Every garden planted leads to a better future. We hope to inspire and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives by sharing our journey towards greater sustainability as we build our family farm. It's hard work to build a life worth living, and completely worth it!

I love tulips more now than I did before! How is this possible?! Those dried flower bouquets are great! Maybe it's a good thing that I don't live nearby you guys. I couldn't resist buying a bouquet at least once a month, even on my ridiculously small budget. I love every single one of them, and I still think the purple and white is beyond stunning! Great video, great to watch while I drink my tea and pet Luna.Thanks guys!

Where in BC or Canada can home growers get larger amounts of bulbs? No selling involved. Would love to order more bulbs (or plan to). I hate buying them in 5 or 10 packs.

I think you should experiment with putting some tulips in a pot with the blub and selling them that way. I always buy my family plants that come back each year. I love you channel. It's amazing how much y'all get done in a day.
@WibblyWobbly
@WibblyWobbly 2 года назад
Thats phisically not easy work. just imagine compared to field planted tulips the amount of this work... you have to plant out every pot, then you move it somwwhere to overwinter, then you move it back in the spring, and then you water it regularly. Hell of a job. I make arount 20 bulb pots for myself each year, and its quite labourious.
@Brittany-410
@Brittany-410 2 года назад
@@WibblyWobbly I mean for them to just make a few to sell. It wouldn't be hard to take the one they already pull up with bulb and plant in it a pot to sell in the stand by road. It may be to much to take them to farmers market but having just a few each day in stand wouldn't be much since they already pull them up with the bulbs.
@WibblyWobbly
@WibblyWobbly 2 года назад
@@Brittany-410 few to sell each market means that they have to prepare a hundred or more pots in the fall. You cant pull them up with the bulbs and then pot it up. It doesnt make sense. Idea with potted dahlia was better, cause you plant it and sell right away, you dont have to fuss over it over half a year.
@louise2209
@louise2209 2 года назад
This still might work as a way of ‘recycling’ the bulbs that Serena left in for a year, but which didn’t do much. Of course, they’d have to be stored a whole year so I don’t know if it would work?
@kareharpies
@kareharpies 2 года назад
These special hybrids are annual not perennial. The bulbs would either dessicate in the soil or send up a green stalk with no flower next year. She'd need to have perennial tulips.

So happy that the videos have flowers again! The synchronized POPs were incredible too. Inspired by your legendary Mothers Day video I made a mason jar arrangement for ME. Three of the best tulips. Weed -check, woody stem with greenery - clip. Was going after another weed, when the COLUMBINE waved PICK ME. The geranium shaped leaves really accentuated the tulips, and stripped off some of their flowers so the tulips were the star focal flower.

Do you have peonies and alliums? They might help you right after the tulips are blooming. Flowerings shurbs perhaps? And investing in specialty long daffodils, so that they can become perennials. I'm in a totally different climate so I don't know if that is possible for you.

I followed the Pepperharrow Farm channel, before I found you guys. I planted in raised beds (have too) and covered with bark mulch as they do....so much easier to pull the whole tulip with bulb out of the mulch.

I absolutely would have been in heaven picking all those tulips!!!! They are my favourite flower of all time and I’ll be watching this video again and again!!! One question my mom never liked me to pick the tulips in her garden she said they live longer when left in the garden to enjoy. My grandma was more like me and loved to go out to her garden and “cut” flowers to bring in the house to be enjoyed. Grandma always insisted that we must cut the stems and not simply pull them and break the stems. I noticed you were snapping the stems and some you had pulled out by the bulbs(it looked like anyway) I don’t know I consider myself an average Canadian and right now there is no way I could afford a $40 bouquet of tulips every week. I would prefer a dozen tulips for something like $15, without the additional more expensive flowers unless there is some way to propagate them. Now I don’t know what you typically sell your bouquets for but I would suggest with the quality of your tulips you should get into selling bridal bouquets because you could make much more money making those and you without a doubt have a way to make gorgeous bouquets and I just don’t think the average Canadian person like me could afford them on a weekly basis. I live in an apartment and have no balcony so I would consider myself part of your target market, an older person that doesn’t have anyway of growing them myself and has more disposable income compared to a family who would be spending their money on food and veggies. Sorry probably not what you want to hear but I just don’t think you are putting your skills where you could truly profit and to my mind you have an incredible gift of making beautiful arrangements!!! Trust me not everyone can do it!! I have never ever been able to put together a gorgeous bouquet like you have made. Your bouquets are wedding quality! People who are getting married as far as I’ve seen are having much less volume of people but love having much more elaborate bouquets and table arrangements and while they may not be repeat customers word of mouth and people in the industry will recommend you. Also people that attend are typically friends and others that are also looking to get married and trust me they will ask the bride where she got her flowers if they love them. The red and white bouquet that you mentioned was a $40 pre-order, that looked like $100 bouquet to me and would easily fetch that for a bridal piece either as a tall table arrangement or broken down as aisle end adornments for the pews. Wishing you much success !! There is no doubt you are hard workers and I can see people loving your bouquets. Your flowers are absolutely beautiful. You have a lot of talent if I can recommend anything don’t give up!!! You have conquered the growing part and you sure have the talent part, just stick with it!!! I believe this is where your passion lies and you both look exhausted from the stress of it and raising a young family and any of the other multiple things you have on your plate. You can do this!! Hugs a fellow Canadian in Ontario(on a fixed income)🥰❤️🌹🇨🇦👍🏻🌸
