@MerlinsOldSchoolGarage obtains a free boat from a youtube fan. He doesn't quite understand the mess he got himself into with this project. Merlin and Jetski Jimmy work on getting it water worthy again! Will they sink or swim?
From a Model A Ford one week to Sea Doo boat the nest week, an off road wrecker, a reduced scale tractor trailer, or a Jetta pickup conversion. The spectrum here is endless. Merlin is a renaissance man.
I owned the single engine version of this. What a rough riding boat. At times a little dangerous as you could throw it in reverse and fill the boat with water. Sold it and purchased a 25 ft pontoon. I never regretted that change.
That's what I love about watching your channel Merlin. You just never know what you're going to be doing! That little boat runs pretty darn good for a freebie!! I know you had to put some work into it but you can't beat the price! Great time! And a special thanks to your daughter for the film work!!!!
I bought one of those back when they were new. It was a blast on the water but could get you hurt quickly. It caused more then one hospital visit but well worth it!!
Speaking from experience there is no such thing as a free boat, the first free boat was a 1969 Chrysler Dart 13 ft 10 inch. Dark green, with an old Chrysler 25 hp,The second Free boat was a 1977 Livingston 8 foot for throwing in the back of the truck, that by the numbers on it I built when I was in highschool working for Livingston boat when they were on 37th in auburn the third free boat 1966 Gulfstream 17 ft with trailer cause it has beautiful hull lines, I never seen flotation foam absorb that much water before, transom was rotted out, ripped. It all apart, replaced the transom, deck, foam, ect going to put two big period appropriate Mercurys on it,and repaint the green with a candy apple Green metallic.
I was really interested in the Seadoo boat when they first came out. But I passed on it. This is the first time I've seen one in decades. Salesman took me for a ride and overdid the donuts a bit and filled the boat with water. I didn't sink however. We baled for awhile, restarted the boat and drove back at a more leisurely pace. I knew it could be a lot of fun, but with my personality would be baling it often.
My wife said same thing about a 2021 Side by side I bought from Old Farmer who trusted his help to maintain his equipment and they Didn't, and after getting it back running heard some noises but before could find them and fix them it threw a Rod, so now I need a New Motor for my HiSun(Coleman) 550 Outfitter here in North Florida, that or I need you & Jetski Jimmy and some new parts and side casings
Mosquitos sprayer at startup so that's a plus if you have blood suckers around LOL. I remember when those boats came out and then they came out with the detachable boat for your jetski or skis.
Never owned a bombardie jet ski but have owned plenty of their snowmobiles and in 40 years I've never had a engine related problem, Canadians build the most dependable rec equipment.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILLIS!! From Alaska, USA.. Merlin.. I too love a brownie box, don't hear anyone talk about um anymore tho.. Ppl have forgotten about em, or never knew what they was. AL~THO.. I used to drive a truck with an "Air~Shift~Four~by~Four"... Now I'll tell you that was a SWEET (lazybones) shifting tranny, I my Ol age, I guess that's what I'd choose, but there's something about TWO STICKS, makes a man fall~in~love with em!!
Absolutely super, engine is engine, if you understand the system, you can do a lot and improve so many things. Great how you have made the boat run. Greetings from Frankfurt
Isnt Havasu where the big boys end up and run? Boats and pwcs? Even the yamaha LS2000 a 21' jet boat was so rough the radios always fell out. I have made a living working on watercraft so long I am totaly burned out on them and the lake. Same happened on bikes and the road.
I saw another version of the "SeaDoo" boat. It was "U" shaped and you docked your SeaDoo in the back of it (the empty part of the "U") and it became the drive and steering for a boat. Only seen it once, so I suspect they aren't very common.
I had a pleasant surprise tonight while watching a few old episodes of Vegas Rat Rods on Motor Trend. A young Merlin with dark hair! With your past experience it’s no wonder you make some of the best videos on RU-vid.
Got towed from the l-40 bridge up to Jack Smith in one these, we ran out gas. You haven't truly boated on the colorado river, until you've been towed back to the ramp... The ride of shame 😅😂
Those boats are fun for a minute but knowing Lake Havasu like I do, the wakes on that lake get huge and nasty! I`m sure your back said nope. That was such a fun video though!!😄
Dude I do Marine repair for a living. The stand alone system for each engine I approve good call. The old KISS system . I love the junction box amazing the factory put in a junction box to tie everything together this thing looks like a blast great job from one Tech to another !
I just figured out where I have seen you before. Probably not new to anyone else, but I just saw a rerun of Welderup Vagas Rat Rods with Steve Darnell and there you were! The mechanic who made all those crazy engines run! Very cool!
I sure wouldn't want any newer boat. The marinas will eventually get your house!! LOL. I have an 88 Sea Ray Seville that I can work on. God knows I have had to!! A great boat.
I had the exact same SeaDoo Speedster boat and it was an absolute hoot! We have spent hours digging ski rope out of the impellers but so much fun! Ours would run 53 mph with 3 of us in it. Soooo much fun but rough riding as you can only imagine. 🤣🤣
I guy I worked with bought one of those the first year they came out . First time out with his wife they jumped a wave and she ended up with a broken back. Boat went up for sail the next day. Hello from Siesta Key Florida
God! The 787 is legendary! 110 horsepower out of a 2 cylinder 2 stroke. I loved my 97' GTX that I had swagged out for fishing like an OG FishPro... That motor is soooooo nice. I think Bombardier is so ahead of their time. They were like Honda in those years.
BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand $$. I own one I know lol. Merlin deploying the smoke screen like the old spy hunter game. as long as there is no oil slick you should be fine lol thanks for sharing Merlin and Jimmy.
