The New Manga by Prolific Mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto is one of the Best Manga I've read. Goodbye, Eri is an incredible psychological romance manga, but even the romance is implied and might be a lie. It's almost impossible to talk about this great new manga without spoiling things, because beyond general premise ideas very little isn't subject to an evolving interpretation. I pulled out all stops on this editing so please support me!!

As someone who started this channel, turning my personal life into my own narrative to better understand myself and my issues - Goodbye, Eri felt in a lot of ways like it was made specifically for me. A brilliant manga - please help like, comment and share this so more people can learn about it. I also took a lot of time making these edits and am really happy with how they turned out! Hope you have a good day!

I think the thing that draws me to your content isn't even the actual content anymore. I just come to hear what you have to say. The amount of yourself, the effort you put in, and the impact the things you talk about have had on yourself are really what makes a Hiding in Public video hit as hard as it does. There are so many videos games and stories that I've gotten into just because you recommended it. I like to watch your streams, but sometimes I have to sit out because I end up picking it up what you're doing myself. Lol I'm glad that you've been able to find a way to express yourself, and share it with others like this. Keep up the good work, man, this is what art is all about. I hope that your channels and streams continue to grow and that you're doing well yourself too. The Persona 4 videos are great too. I've been watching them on repeat while I do stuff just because you're so thorough and passionate about it. Lol

**spoilers** It was briefly shown(or discussed with a mutual friend) that Eri actually wore glasses, which she told to cut out entirely since it makes her look bad, was very pushy and selfish, which means that a lot more scenes were "acted" as oppose to genuine Their relationship could've been a toned down version of the one between him and his mother(or worse on an emotional level, its left ambiguous) You can argue that Eri, having saved Yuta's life, pressured him to make the movie for selfish reasons and this is again, how Yuta choose to remember an abusive but deep relationship, just like with his mom. Very Freudian and it fits with the how Yuta deals with traumatic pasts. I know its a very cynical look at the story and its all based on like 1/2 pages in the details, but that's what I got. This story can honestly be studied by psychologist for how many layers it can go. Hats off heart-shaped-author-man!

"Real life seemed to not resonate with me as hard". Every day I escape into the fictional world to experience a vast scope of emotions, from joy to despair whatever it is it feels real. But once I turn off the screen, once I am alone at night staring into the dark ceiling I realize just how shallow my own life is.
@npc6817
@npc6817 2 года назад
Oof same, but don't feel bad about it. It's just the nature of life, media is so full of emotion because that's the nature of fantasy, compared to that anyone's life would look dull. On a related note, don't feel so bad about your escapades in fiction either, that's also human nature. People have been pointing fingers at anyone who enjoys fiction since fiction has been a thing (fucking Don Quixote man) so of course we don't want to be seen as out of touch with reality. Thing is, they don't often tell you that a life spent without dreams is as pathetic as one spent running away from reality, the truth lies in the balance, that's why fiction even exists in the first place, our fantasy worlds aren't less or more important than reality, they're just as necessary. So yeah, sweet spot's in the middle, I can easily work my retail shift content of being a retail worker then go home, start up some star citizen and be a fledgling space pirate for a couple hours, content of being a space pirate. Not really escaping reality nor fantasy, just living life on every level. So yeah, in short your life isn't dull and escaping to fantasy worlds isn't wrong, is just a matter of balance and perspective
@Fahriya
@Fahriya 2 года назад
@@npc6817 I agree with what you say and the sad part is that my life lacks that balance. As someone who is about to graduate from college and is also jobless at the moment, that feeling of confusion and upcoming responsibilities have made me go into an indifferent mode. I feel empty, even when I feel horrible I can't shed a single tear. Thus each day I seek out new stories to escape to in forms of anime, manga and games, pretend like my problems are on hold and won't come to haunt me down soon. It's funny but I am hoping that maybe one of these stories will give me that feeling of motivation. And if in the past that might have worked... it doesn't work anymore.
@npc6817
@npc6817 2 года назад
@@Fahriya oh yeah, that's one hell of a transition moment. All I can tell you is to stop worrying about those responsibilities, they're not really as bad as it looks from there and besides, what do you think will happen if you fail? The answer is not much really. It will suck, there will be consequences, but at the end of the day life still moves on, and things get better if you keep moving alng with it. I didn't get to graduate from college. Or high school. I've been unemployed for years and even homeless for a bit last year. Pretty much a failure of a human being right? And yet, here I am now. I'm no surprise millionaire, I live in a rented room and work retail, but I'm happy, I live a good life, and I'm working towards my dreams (wanted to be a pilot, should have enough saved up in 2 years). I'm not saying you're wrong for feeling that way, but like there's no reason to run away either. Just face your problems knowing you'll come out on top even if you don't succed. Fantasy is essential to the human experience, but it's a realm we should use to expand our rality, not running away from it. This becomes easyier when you realize theres'nothing to run away from

I love the final confrontation so much for what it says about both lead characters. Earlier in the one shot they have a conversation about how one's understanding of a person can be completely changed based on perspective. So when Eri "rebuilds" herself based on the tapes that leave out the more negative aspects of her personality, Yuta has to confront whether or not it's a good thing to idealize someone in such a fashion. He already had to deal with the emotional fallout over the memory of his mother and now history has chosen to rhyme at his lowest point. There's no direct answer given as to what he should have told Eri. He's just accepted the state of things and is ready to move on again. It's the kind of ambiguity that makes you think about the question at the heart of the story.

It's always so weird to see yourself as a human and that you're not just a character in a show---The 'it's your life, not someone else's' type of thing. That's one thing I've always had trouble with. I'm definitely gonna read Goodbye, Eri thanks to your insanely amazing visuals! Awesome as always, see you next time, Hiding!! Oh! And beat those thoughts with a broom next time they come visiting. I saw this one shot on the manga plus app when it came out. The beginning was for sure a bit weird and I almost dropped it, but holy shit was this an amazing read. The art itself felt melancholic in a way. I'm so happy to see you do a video on this, because I had so many thoughts on it but unusually, I've had a hard time putting into words what I actually thought was so amazing. My favorite scene was the scene being shot with Eri, the boy, and the father. It felt so real for him to then say something like "was I good enough?" It gave such a level of relief to prepare me for the sadness coming down the line.

11:35 Man , this has been happening to me since this year started,in the moment My feelings may feel real, but as soon as the feeling ends i detach it from Myself and ignore it. this year has been crazy so far . i changed from a state highschool to a private one and My parents decided to put me into IB Even though My level was now way near that of a IB student, (basicaly i'm fucked since i don't do well at tests.) I had My first girlfriend and shared lots of really intimate Moments . she shared a lot of her secrets , told me she loved me, i Even had My first time with her. but one month later she broke up with me without giving me a reason.the relationship only lasted 1 month and a half. although the reason broke up with me was because i wasnt paying to much attention the relationship due to me having focus studying and boxing i wasnt expecting it to happen . Also i cant meet up with My lifelong Friends because all My time is spent studying and that has Also severed My other relationships. But Even so, i try to keep going as if nothing happened detaching Myself from My life which according to My psicologist is what is causing My anxiety all those repressed feelings have to come out un some way. And the only way i could let it out was by beating the fuck out of the boxing bag and training which now i cant do since My parents took me out of boxing lessons due to My student counselor calling My parents due to My performance being insuficient, although he told them not to take me out of them because it would be contraproductive they the found a reason to do it one week later and now i don't have any coping mechanisms to deal with My own suffering which seems to be the cause of most of the anxiety symptoms i have. Now that i begin to accept My feelings they become scary because of their intensity and i want to avoid them but i cant , being anxious is the only way My repressed feelings can manifest now. Basicaly i need more visits per week to the psycologist. I suck ass at gramar sorry

I feel like were two drastically diffrent people but share similarities. I have so much free time its abundant and i dont have to worry about tests or school. But im so bored at everything i do. My parents are supportive in some ways but since my child hood my dad and bio mom even my step mom and dad are just traumatic. My bio dad was a tool didnt care about anyone but himself and drank every day and i raised myself then he met my step mom and became loud and would yell at her and my sister but i felt invisible still. Then in 2020 my dad got covid and almost died he had multiple heart attacks seizures and i couldn't shed a tear. my dad came out a full body cripple. His arms and legs wouldn't work. My stepmom still tookcare of him and now he cant drink cause of heart meds and is tryingto be a good person but i have no feeling for him its like just watching a sad man stumble through existence but he can walk and move his hands now. But its still awful to watch the man. I recently have been trying to ground myself. I will tap my fingers in a rhythm to make sure im in control but sometimes i just feel like my body is just moving on its own and im watching. And the only times i cry is when im feeling in control but thats rare when nothing is stimulating in my life.

Goodbye Eri is really amazing and cemented Fujimoto as my favourite modern mangaka tbh. I think it takes a certain level of self-awareness and mastery of a craft (both manga and movies in this case) to genuinely convey how ungenuine you are with your audience. Because if no effort was put into making the movie/manga flow smoothly as a narrative experience, if it was just a single-take recording of everything (or a series of first-draft sketches), it would feel less genuine than it does with all the lies we take for granted when engaging with art.

This manga and the words at the end have resonated with me to a terrifying degree. It really feels like I'm watching myself go through life instead of actually experiencing and processing it. So much death, grief and despair happened and is happening around me yet I never shed a tear, even though it's slowly and silently crushing me. But with any kind of story and media I'm able to let out these raw feelings without problem. It's like I distanced myself from my reality over the years and it kind of feels out of reach now. And reading stories, creating ones is the only way for me to cope in a meaningful way. I can't quite open up to others because I will just think and act like a cold robot, not able to actually feel what I want to. Though it's sad, I'm glad I'm not alone in this. Through the stories and experiences we tell others, through the memories we make, we may help eachother be able to feel again.

We often get the "unreliable narrator" in stories but in this one it is closer to an unreliable film maker, or if we want to become meta with it, an unreliable mangaka. The interesting idea as well is that the "unreliability" was intentional because like a film maker you only get to see what the camera wants you to see. If this were a film you wouldn't know if it was a documentary or a fictional piece, it blends the line between the two. The word "semi-biographical" even came up which I've read some novels written in that form but not in this kind of presentation where the "semi" was both blatantly obvious but also deceptively cryptic. What I especially love is that it's confusing as all hell and you don't know what is real and fantasy but that's the point and it doesn't lose any credibility as a story for being being so cryptic or incoherent.

The structure on this video is great, it starts by quoting the manga out of context making you slightly confused but intrigued with what's coming, then we get some light information about the manga, after that comes some personal information and it ends up with quoting back the beginning of the video but this time it has more meaning because you have the personal info and now you can see how it all relates together and are in fact very similar stories. I haven't heard about this manga until now, it'll for sure be on my reading list. Though, this video has opened something to me. I tend to do the same thing, viewing everything from a third perspective. Even my dreams and day dreams are in third person. The only times it's not is when I'm having nightmare, where everything feels real. I thought I was the only one who viewed the world through a lense, as an outsider. But it's a little soothing to know that I'm not alone. Another problem I have that's related to this, is that a lot of times, it feels like I'm playing a character. That could be caused by my people pleasing habits, but even when I throw away the mask, I still feel like an actor playing a character. The only times that I don't is when I feel numb.

I read the manga just for the sake of watching this video and funnily enough I was also listening to persona 4 music so this was a bit surreal. The story resonated very strongly with me because I tend to view things happening in my life as just something I'm reading about in a book and disassociate myself from it as a sort of mental defense mechanism I guess, I never realized it before but as I was reading the manga I found myself crying because the main character just put my feelings into words. Gonna get real The not sleeping part got me, it’s 4:30 AM right now and the past few days I’ve been saying that my life is going to end soon It’s kind of incredible that you can just stumble upon someone who can take exactly what you feel and put it into words

To start I'm gonna say that in this video you eloquently put all of my thoughts and feelings about this manga into words in a way I never could, and even when I tried I failed to. And for that I thank you for making something brilliant about this fantastic story. now onto something a bit more serious. when you opened up about your struggles and how you view the suffering in your own life I felt like I 'understood' as I find myself viewing the world around me in a similar way, yet when it comes to fiction such as anime or manga I can somehow connect with that more than my own life, viewing it form an outsiders perspective. while I don't watch your videos all to often only catching one upload every blue moon, what you do and the self you present in your videos is great, so keep up the good work.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. An aneurysm killed my grandmother, long before I was even born, and my aunt recently survived one rupturing. It's possible with luck and emergency surgery, but there are no guarantees and if your grandfather is already frail it may not work out. I know I'm just a stranger on the internet, but I hope his days are as comfortable and comforting as they can be, and that you find the strength you need for such times. Also, that feeling like you're watching yourself in third person is often called "depersonalization" if you're interested in looking up what other people have to say about it.

I didn't like Chainsawman, and Fire Punch was weeeird. The two oneshots they made in the last couple of years were absolutely unbelievable, though.

I don't know how to say this so bear with me, but its weirdly warming hearing you speak about the feeling of "eventually crashing and just feeling doomed to disappear" because this is a genuine thought I have constantly and I'm sure many people do as well. Its hard to articulate into words but you somehow did it and I want to say thanks for that, it feels nice to be represented

So its my third time watching this video but this time i've read goodbye eri and i relate to this video i myself have started college and i feel like this, i've had those awfull thoughts i've been through grief and death and i get it the feeling of being detached from reality but throughout the years i've find some peace of mind with this channel and community, that despite the fact i felt a certain way its comforting to know that you aren't alone and in a way makes me confident in tomorrow so thanks hiding and congrats on the 200k

Man... Nothing I say would help you. And nothing I do would help you. I can't even donate you to help with medical bills because VISA and PayPal are disabled in my country + I can barely afford meds and food for myself. I won't say stuff like "I understand you!" because everyone's experience is kinda different. I won't share my own sleazy story to get 5 likes because I don't think it's the right place, plus I am not an attention-seeker. I feel sorry? Do you need someone's pity? I don't think so. I am just happy that you're here and you're sharing it with random people like me. Life sucks. Not just sucks, sometimes it can be TOO MUCH, last few years were especially hard on people with deaths, paranoia, pandemic etc. Especially people who reflex and think a lot. I think the only thing we can do is to move forward and try to make world a little bit better. Just a little better. One word at a time, one video at a time. I am not sure if life ever becomes good or even BEARABLE, but I really think we must fight on no matter how hard it is sometimes. You are the reason I've read Girls' Last Tour and I really, really liked it (plus added March comes in like a lion to my PTW).

I cant really afford a monthly donation right now, but i connect to your videos a lot. I think its really brave of you to bare your heart like you do, and it does help to have someone to connect to even if its a faceless voice. Anyway -is there a way to make some kind of a one time donation? This year really has been hard on everyone and i would to help at least a bit.
