Someone let Max know that when he does his KOF 2003 playthrough, that he needs to finish Kusanagi with a super, so he can fight Maki and Mukai (the true final bosses).

This game holds a special place in my heart. I used to work at an office that had the arcade cabinet for this in the break room. The sound effects for this game are forever ingrained in my memory.

I love SVC Chaos very much, I played this game a lot back in the day. It is buggy as hell, though. One time I played against CPU as Ryu, busted out the Shinkuu Hadouken, the opponent (I can't remember who the character is) blocked, but the energy ball just won't go away. As a result my opponent got chipped away to death by the infinite Shinkuu Hadouken. Still, I had a blast playing this game.

On one hand, I want to see you Boss Rage Athena and Firebrand. On the other hand, I worry this would somehow leave you committed to an asylum from the sheer madness that makes Arcade version Boss-ism Bison seem fair by comparison.

I remember this game. It was really weird, but i got used to playing it knowing everything of majority of the characters. This game was just really weird when you think about it. Characters from different games show up and basically say "who are you, im gonna kick your ass?" "Hey what's up, wanna fight? Sure thing" like what?lol Then you either fight Shin Gouki or Serious Mr Karate. I think both are kinda annoying if you don't know their attacks. Then outta nowhere depending on score you got to Heaven or Hell to fight Athena or Red Arremer, then they tell to get out and even God himself tells you to piss off if you win. Failing or losing fights is kinda fucked in the end. Just like what we saw with Max, the character you choose just fucking dies or doesn't exist. To me it's fucked.

Man...SvC had so much potential but it just turned into a disaster. I will give it up for all the secret characters in the game like Violent Ken and Dimitri from Darkstalkers, and even Zero!

Man, i wish he would fight Serious Mr.Karate one of these times.

SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos... MAN what a weird title! T_T Just call it "SNK vs Capcom Chaos" or something. >_> Anyway, this is SNK's second game they made for the SNK & Capcom crossover series and this is also the last game for a while (excluding SNK and Capcom characters appearing again in Tekken 7 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate). SNK's last game was for the Neo Geo Pocket Color and it was honestly very cute and fun... Though not a lot of people had a NGPC. Capcom clearly had the higher budget when they made CVS1 as the game was not only in Arcades but was ported to systems that everyone likely had at the time. But still, despite SNK going bankrupt and bouncing back, they managed to whip this game out which is likely one of the last Neo Geo games since it was beginning to become a little...outdated to put it nicely. - When this game was ported to consoles, SVC Chaos was ported to PS2 and Xbox... in Japan and Europe. For the US, they only ported the game on Xbox and that's just plain weird. Apparently it's because of "SCEA's game approval policy"? - On the SNK side, they choose the "expected" characters like Terry, Kyo, Iori, Ryo, and Mai, but seemingly as a "reverse" to the CVS2 roster, instead of Haohmaru and Nakoruru (from Samurai Shodown, fyi), we have Genjuro (the guy who people swear is related to Iori) and Shiki (oh and Earthquake). Instead of Chang and Choi we have... Just Choi. Instead of Ryuhaku Todoh, we have his (more popular) daughter, Kasumi Todoh. And instead of Athena ASAMIYA, we have PRINCESS Athena, who believe it or not IS a different Athena from a different (yet related) Athena game. Also we have Mr. Karate and SERIOUS Mr. Karate. (yes, there's regular Mr. Karate and SERIOUS Mr. Karate... Big difference! Not kidding either! He'll wreck your shit!) SERIOUS Mr. Karate is actually based on the Mr. Karate seen in Art of Fighting 1 in which he was the last boss of that game. - On the capcom side... it's mostly Street Fighter (2) characters. Surprise. T_T But hey, we got Demitiri instead of Morrigan, and we even got the Mega Man Zero incarnation/version of Zero! And is that Tessa/Tabasa from Red Earth/WarZard I see~? And Firebrand from Ghosts 'n Goblins and Demon's Crest?! And who can forget Violent Ken, the Shadaloo brainwashed version of Ken that came from the SF2 animated movie~! But it's still mostly Street Fighter characters. 7_7 - For some weird freaking reason, you cannot run in this game. SNK developed this game and yet they gave us the Capcom Dash? I don't like it and Max sure didn't. Apparently, this game was made bring in the best out of SNK and Capcom fighting games; specifically KOF '96 and SSFII Turbo... Last I check, KOF '96 had a run option. T_T - Unlike the CVS games, there's not an "official story" to be had... It just seems like the SNK and Capcom guys are duking it out to have the right to battle Shin Akuma or SERIOUS Mr. Karate. - This game has SIX Possible MID-BOSSES, TWO Possible SUB-BOSSES, TWO Possible FINAL BOSSES and TWO POSSIBLE HIDDEN BOSSES! Keep in mind, this is before KOF '98 UM and KOF 2002 UM which gave us multiple bosses to battle. On the Mid-Bosses, you have the opportunity to fight Goenutz (fuck you), Geese Howard, the...Mars People (the aliens from Metal Slug 2, 3, and 6...they also appear in Metal Slug XX), as well as Demitri, Zero, and Dan Hibiki because why not? For Sub-Bosses, you can either fight Violent Ken or Wild Iori. Final Bosses: Shin Akuma or SERIOUS Mr. Karate. And the Hidden Bosses are (Princess) Athena and Firebrand (usually called "Red Arremer", but Firebrand is easier to remember). This is pretty nice and adds replayability to the Arcade Mode. - However, just like with Omega Rugal in KOF 2002 UM, you have only ONE SHOT to beat (Princess) Athena / Firebrand. If you lose, that's it (as you saw Max fail). - (Princess) Athena and Firebrand have a special attack called Heaven Spell and Makai Spell respectively. They will either transforms you into an animal/object or something demonic/grotesque. Most of these transforms are references to something though. - The assets from KOF 2002 were mostly used in this game. However, Goenitz, Geese, and Wild Iori would be ported to the PS2 version of KOF 2002 based on their SVC Chaos iterations. Though Wild Iori would be omitted, they would use the same version of this game for Goenitz and Geese's appearance in KOF 2002 UM. - The sprites for Terry are actually redrawn versions of the sprites in KOF 2003...and those were already redrawn (and reanimated) sprites of the ones that were used SINCE KOF '96! - With Demitri here, Midnight Bliss is A-GO... I think we all believe that Terry's Midnight Bliss form would be huge inspiration for the "Fatal Cutie" Terry we'd see in SNK Heroines. TwTU (I'm stiiiill not comfortable with a female Terry. lmao) Though funnily enough, Midnight Bliss Zero is incredibly popular on the internet because of course it is! So much so that she is simply called "Midnight Bliss Zero" (or just "Bliss Zero"). Demitri, you monster! You've got some incredibly good animations in this game but you monster! ...Why couldn't MORRIGAN get such a makeover for CVS1 or CVS2? T_T She looked AWFUL and out-of-place in those games... - Regardless of the game's blandness, there's no denying that the backgrounds are pretty great. It seems SNK hasn't lost their touch with those at least~ But even so, some are better than others (I swear to god, the Factory Abandoned Stage and the Station Obsolete Stage are the same place! They're too brown!) - The soundtrack is...bleh. There are some tunes I like but most of them are boring as hell. It makes the feel far more empty and desolate than the high energy of the CVS games. However, this is because the SNK staff that were currently there at the time apparently did not know how to utilize the Neo Geo's sound chip (or simply didn't have access to the tools past SNK composers had?). Seriously, compare the soundtrack of this game to freaking KOF '96 and ESPECIALLY KOF '98 and '99. - The dialogue in this game is so weird... Though apparently Kasumi's legs are so good that even Chun-Li's jealous of them??? O...Okay! >_> Aaaand that's all I gotta say on this game. Not a lot to say really.

This game was like the Last gift from SNK to Neo Geo fans This was one of the Last game for the arcade and considering when they back from Bankrupt dont count with most of His old staff they do a good job Guardian's dogs temple and Athena Stage are a masterpiece of Sprites work like His themes and in terms of roster it's shorter than CvS but with More insteresting adittions Like Dimitri, Zero, Mr Karate, Tessa, Shiki and even Mars People without count the Secret Bosses Athena (Goddess) and Firebrand (alias Prototype Magaki)

This was an odd one. Some of the characters look great, others look fine, and a few look quite suspect. I played it for a fair bit and it’s fairly unique/fun so it’s definitely worth playing for the sake of variety. This was also made when SNK was SNKP (“P” is for Playmore) and they were more or less just trying to keep the SNK name alive with what little budget they had. Weirdly enough, SNK vs Capcom on the Neo Geo Pocket Color made in ‘99 is the far better vs game.

The character sprites are God tier though, they look amazing, especially from the Capcom side.

26:16 Yeah, and on top of that, you HAVE to defeat Athena in order to get the actual ending for your character. I think the same goes for Red Aremmer. If you lose then the "never seen again" ending is the default one you get.

Ah yes, those secret boss fights against Athena and Firebrand. One of the lowest points for SNK final bosses.

OOF. Ouch. yeah, That fight against the TRUE Athena is some of the roughest stuff in a fighting game. it's especially mean that they give you a bad ending if you get to her and lose your one shot at fighting her.

So Max I actually learned some tech for this game that you might find useful in the future if you ever come back to this game. It turns out that there are tons of combined button commands that give you unique properties but cost meter. So first off pressing A+B and C+D when close to the opponent does a unique throw that ends with a hard knockdown. Then A+B when you get normal thrown right before you hit the ground let's you recover on your feet. Then C+D on block does a blowback like in KOF but doesn't do damage, but knocks your opponent away. Lastly B+C or forward forward on block does a rushdown that can be used to interrupt an opponent. I've been seeing players online use this in tournaments to do some nasty stuff. It seems like it can be used with just about anything including supers, throws, combos etc.

You can alternatively fight with Firebrand from Demon's Crest and Ghouls N Ghosts instead of Athena. And you fight him in Hell instead of Heaven.

When will / does Max realize that whiffing throws drains meter?

This game is depressing, I don't know why, but I feel a lot of that in this game

when fighting Athena, all her moves are pretty much invincible, priority goes to her almost ll the time. you have to time your attacks. don't let the beetle touch you, it'll pull you in for her to attack, there's no stopping that. her big bird attack, you have to jump when the bird beaks down, it'll shake the ground leaving you open to attack. and she does have an exceed too.

Green of Forest is an excellent, excellent piece of sprite art. It's just beautiful.
