Absolutely improved my game, Tom is a real teacher, so refreshing to get real focus on real issues for the average 16 handicapper like myself, all these other so called you tube golfers are interested in is telling you what the most forgiving clubs are, the best ball for high handicappers, all self indulgent crap in my opinion, but Tom actually gets to the point of why people like me watch you tube, hats of to you Tom, you have really helped my game, can't thank you enough 👍👍👍👍
I can't thank saguto golf enough, I've learnt more in the last 2 weeks watching your drills than i have in the past 3 years when I took up the game. By far the best instructor on u tube. You've literally changed my game for the better. A VERY BIG THANK YOU. 😊
Hey Tom, cannot thank you enough- I have binge watched about 30+ of your videos so far for the past two weeks - almost religiously. I seriously cannot thank you enough

Hi Tom, they are well earned, so so nice to receive actual relevant instruction and Imformation on real issues that plague Sunday morning golfers, fabulous input on your part easily understood on my part, many many thanks 👍👍
Don’t normally comment but this video is so good that felt I had to. Have been on the range trying this since it was posted and took the practice to the course today and shot an 81. Hitting pure shots all day with much more consistency. Even the misses were much “better”. Thank you for this video. Subscribed and will most likely become a member
Well done, John!! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated so well with you - nice job incorporating it into your swing so quickly! Keep up the great work, and I hope to see you soon in the online school! TS
"Left palm down" is the single golf epiphany I've been missing for over 30 years! Literally that 1 move fixed my game. I keep my left wrist flat in my backswing (opposite of what I used to do) then on the way back down I'll push my palm down just a little more ensuring the club face is closed. Arms down with a decent swing plane and the results are amazing. Thank you Saguto!!!
Awesome!! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you and had such a dramatic effect on your ball striking. Nice job building it into your swing!! Ive been playing for 50 years, so I have been trained by old school, and yes the younger style of swing mechanics.I also taught at the high school level, and can say in all honest, this young man, makes it easy to understand, fun and by far the best i have seen on any youtube vids. Thanks for sharing sir.

Bloody hell Tom. Tried palm down today and hit fabulous (for me) shots I have never done before -once I had found a sufficiently consistent rhythm. I am 77 years of age and have been steadily hitting indifferent shots of reducing length. What I like about the feeling is that, having today practiced some four hundred shots with a variety of clubs in my bag, my left wrist apparently remains solid right through the downswing, the hitting area and the follow through. Apparently for the first time I fairly naturally swing my clubs, particularly my irons, rather than just hit at the ball. Can’t wait to try this, over coming months, and seek to return to my former golfing glories. My only major concern is that the natural rotational stresses seem to put fairly big loads on my left knee - but for sure I intend to seek to perfect your palm down approach along side further strengthening of my knees. Thank you very much for your excellent explanation which hopefully will put me back on track enjoying my golf. Prof Richard Weston, Rothley Park Golf Club Leicestershire.
Great job incorporating this lesson into your swing so quickly and effectively, Richard!! With regard to the lead knee, having both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward are prescribed setup features of the swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. By the way, it is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. So many folks across the globe - including several in the UK - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Brilliant and thanks for individually replying Tom. Will try out your foot and knee placement suggestions. Am really delighted with your excellently expressed ideas on one piece swings. Intend to join your school to find out more when I return from a current work trip. Richard
WOW, what a difference this made. Shot low 90"s after learning this tip, instead of low 100's. Still had my usual couple blow up holes, but this helped tremendously. 68% fairways. Not one back yard, :) For me, game changer. Thanks again.

That's fantastic, Robert! Minimizing our mechanical thoughts allows us to truly enjoy playing golf rather than suffering through a round of "golf swing". Keep up the great work and have fun out there! TS
Hey Tom Saguto, I am 3 weeks into working on your version of the stack and tilt golf swing ... I am enjoying golf again ... I can hit shapes at will my distance is better than it was 23 years ago ... Golf is fun, I feed off of your positivity ... Thank you Guru Saguto ... Namaste
That's awesome, Paul - Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and success!! Keep up the great work and keep having fun out there - that's what's it's really all about!! TS
I came upon this tip on my own a few years ago. It took a long time to master, after cupping my wrist for 50 years. But it really works, especially on short irons. One thing I did was to EXAGGERATE really bowing the wrist back, to train it. When you do it correctly, your consistency improves dramatically. It takes time and practice, so be patient and it will happen.
Nice job overcoming that cupping issues. Yes - I regularly preach on the difference between "feel vs. real", but oftentimes an exaggerated feel is our best appeal to seal the deal!...😆 Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! Tom
Almost all other similar sites keep saying the reason you slice is your face is open at impact ..... but they never explain why, never show this palm down fix to square/close the face. Thanks so much
My pleasure, Joe - I'm glad to know that this video resonated well with you! Others are only partially right about that open face causing a slice. Open to what? For example, a face that is open to the target line and closed to an in-to-out downswing path will produce a push-draw that curves back to the target. Thanks for your comment!! Tom
Hi Tom, in one of your blogs you showed us in getting the club back to within ones right shoulder (right handed players) OMG - you have just saved an oap golf game! I practiced this on the Friday and again today and as you said - it is fun actually being able to put the ball to where one is aiming! Just when I thought I was getting to old for the game with not hitting my intended target, here I was aiming over obstacles such as over trees over bunkers and having a huge smile on my face seeing the outcome!! I can't thank you enough Tom, in saying that - I have not taken my new swing onto the golf course yet! We have gusts of wind here in Scotland . I walked our course today and noticed all the twigs and debris on most greens that were near tree's! More gusts of wind and snow forecasted for Sunday, so one will need to be patient to get back onto the course! Thank you sooooooo much Tom!!!!!!!
That's fantastic, Alan!! (Aside from the weather, of course...😎) I'm very glad to learn of your success through my instruction, and I am thrilled to know how much you are now enjoying yourself!! THAT is what this channel and my online school are really all about!! Thanks for sharing your success and exuberance, keep up the great work, and stay warm up there!! Tom
Palm Down FTW!!! I was literally out on the range here in Florida working on this same technique. When I gaved my 4 iron the mashed potates for the 1st time in a long time... I knew this was the magic sauce!!! Thanks Tom!
I’m 5’10 240 bench 315. I have hit a straight drive about 5 times in my entire life and when I tell you it goes 330 I’m not lying. I’m usually about 255 260 off the tee but I have a friggin slice that I’m telling you will curve anywhere from 50 to 100 yards. I have the memory of a goldfish so I couldn’t remember what I did at the range until I came across this channel. But at the range 3/4 swings I was hitting driver 280-300 every single time with a normal height in flight. I’ve went from a 95-100 stroke golfer to low 80s just from the idea of weight in the swing. You’re awesome
Game Changer! It feels like your John Rohm doing this. It also makes you hip turn and shallow the club automatically. I knew you were supposed to get a flat lead wrist, but I could never do it. Yeah I hit some clunkers, but man the good shots are so powerful, you don't even need to swing hard. It's such a different feeling having the club come from under your arm pit. Thanks Tom!
Well done, Rich - I'm glad this lesson worked well for you! Speaking of Jon Rahm, here's an episode I did featuring him which pairs nicely with this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BGYUWPqWT2s.html Keep up the great work and have fun out there!! TS
Pure gold for a cupped wrist golfer like myself! Looks effortless. Another great tip for the range tomorrow and hopefully a step for more consistency going forward. Great video Tom 👏🏻

This tip IS a game changer................i saw a still of Dustin Johnson at the top of his backswing...bowed lead wrist. I try to do this and when it goes wrong I know I haven't played the shot with a bowed lead wrist. It's impossible to flip the shot if you do this ...Thank you for the future of my golf !!

Palm down is a great tip..... most guys (me included) might have a swing-the-bat mentality to hitting a golf ball and taking the club back and moving the wrists and hands all over the place. I have to make a point to watch this every spring before the season starts
That's a great way to go about it for those golfers who like to feel the swing in the trail hand. Retain that angle and you should be nice and crispy at impact. Nicely done!! TS
Love this drill! Along with my lead wrist or palm facing down, I imagine my trail hand is holding a tray in it( waiter at a restaurant). Almost never see the ball going right anymore! Thank you
I can't wait to get back out to the range !! Nothing is more satisfying than doing golf drills and it just clicks !! Makes practice more fun ,IMO . THANKS TOM !
I had a lesson just yesterday as I have been push slicing all my clubs (I thought I had a conventional slice at first). Turns out I was pretty neutral out to in (2 degrees), club path was also on line (1 Degree), lead hand flat at top but then my lead hand was cupped and above my trail just before impact (Club face left open 7-10 degrees) My instructor gave me this very same drill to bow my lead hand slightly in the transition and I started to see some nice little draws with my PW. Just a reminder that lots of things could be causing your slice and everyone needs a drill tailored to them to fix their specific issue. Thanks Tom for your videos, I've finally found the drill for me and my swing and it feels good!

The key is to not let your weight leave the front foot in the first place! It’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7fmtzyH3rsA.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SLjwU_1Cc7o.html If you do a search on this channel you'll see some content on the driver and fairway woods. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. So, you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing, delaying their release until after impact. This enables the golfer to "clear" while keeping the club moving on the proper in-to-out path. There's no shifting back and forth, and the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing! It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. Tom Saguto! You are a genius, I have been keeping you as the best kept secret. I started golfing during the beginning of covid out of boredom, and became obsessed with your channel and have been beating my friends who have played since they were 11 years old. They can’t understand how! You simplify the game in a way others cannot, this tip especially is absolute gold!

I tried this yesterday at the range and what a difference it made. I felt like John Rahm lol but with a draw. Its a great feel at the top of the swing. Now trying to figure out how to fade it using this technique.
I'm glad this lesson performed well for you, David - nice job incorporating it into your swing! Once you have the downswing working properly and approaching from the inside, ball flight rules - aka shot shaping - are a function of clubface as it relates to path and target line. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. Here is a shot shaping demonstration featuring a fellow teaching pro when we were attending the Stack & Tilt Instructor Camp together in Miami: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IcmKxfLz9EM.html If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? One of the best videos you've put out, Tom! You need to put this in your on-line teaching program! My wrist has been cupped or flexed for my 50 years of golf and I've always been inconsistent! It also fixes my flying right elbow in the backswing! Thanks so much!

Tom, at setup I have tried raising the handle a little or flexion. Helps in hitting better drives and iron shots doing this at setup that way its set at top of swing. Is this something you would recommend?
Hi Jeff - Whether you know it or not, the height of the handle at address is a component of the Stack & Tilt shot shaping system (plenty of detailed instruction on this is included in my online school). A raised handle is a feature of the setup that promotes a push-draw, while a lower handle can be deployed to shape a pull-fade ball flight. As for whether I recommend this for you, what I regularly tell golfers with regard to their individual nuances is to let their ball striking and shot shape be their guide. Keep up the great work and have fun out there! TS
its a fact this, it works properly, i`v`e always hit left to right ,, until i worked this into my swing recently,, i`v`e been much straighter, or even a slight draw now,and a bit further too, cheers tom, flawless sound advice this,
Excellent job incorporating this into your swing, William; I'm very glad to know that it performed so well for you. Thanks for your support and for sharing your improvement. Keep up the great work and enjoy that new ball flight!! Tom
Used this tip today without realizing it at first. Played my local 9 hole course, and the 2 par 3s they have I made the green. 1 of the holes being 155 over water, usually it's 186 but it's cold out so the tees are forward....they didn't travel as far as I wanted, but they least got me to make par on both!

My wrists have never been flat. I have had my fair share of good rounds but I'm so inconsistent, especially to start this year. I am going to implement this into my swing. Thank you!

For me it is a different feeling when doing this. I can feel the muscles on the top of my left forearm stretching almost tightening. But looking in the mirror it is amazing how the shaft and left arm are now in the same plane, one straigth line. Ive messed with this a lot in the past but not stuck with it. I can see this taking a few years to really get used to.

This really resonated with me. It made me remember something from an instructor decades ago about having the right hand at the top of the swing in the 'platter position'; as if you were carrying a platter on your right hand. This flattens the left wrist which I now realize I haven't been doing. What would your view be of just flattening the left wrist at address and then maintaining that posture throughout the swing? It reminds me a bit of a Moe Norman video I saw where he had his club head behind the ball a bit.
I'm glad this lesson connected with you. Yes - that platter condition of the trail hand at the top is a helpful image for sure. One component of the stock setup for this swing system is having the hands forward - even with the inside of the lead thigh - with the ball position typically behind them. This "hands forward/ball back" address position tends to encourage a flatter lead wrist, similar to what you are saying. Another way to go about it is Rahm style, which I talk about in this episode: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BGYUWPqWT2s.html Cheers! TS
Most of us have been in that vast abyss and shouting "WILSON!" (or perhaps something else), Geoff. I'm here to tell you there is a way out!! I'm glad you're enjoying the tips! TS
Thanks for this, I’ve been hitting my irons straighter than ever and playing my best golf. But I struggle implementing this with my woods as my club face is deporting the club a little too much. Any advice for this? Would it be bad to weaken my grip a little bit to get more loft?
I'm very glad to learn of your improvement, Aaron! I would begin with checking grip and ball position prior to getting into any swing intervention. Having said that, oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs - which is quite normal early in the swing change process as a golfer gets used to applying the weight-forward concept to the fairway woods and driver - it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Here is a recent lesson on this topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I5XYgKopTb4.html Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) I hope that helps! Tom
You see most golf professionals on tour doing it this way. About 40 years ago when I was trying to be a professional golfer my instructor was one of the best in the country he just happen to the head pro at a local course outside Seattle. He tried playing on the PGA tour but he got injured and can no longer do it but he did play a few tournaments on the senior tour before unfortunate he got cancer and took his life I only mention this because, one of his number one thing for me to do was to keep my left wrist cupped at the top. That's how he did it and that's how I did it very well until I also got injured but obviously the flat wrist method is obviously the way to go for consistency
There are certainly some very accomplished players who figured out how to make it work with a cupped wrist, although you are correct in that a flat wrist condition is beneficial for the majority of golfers. Thanks for sharing your story! Tom
Oddly enough this video livened my woods more than anything. I was losing power bringing the club too high with a cupped wrist like the start of this video, and now I'm 280 with driver, 240 with fairway wood and 210 with hybrid. I used to be 100 yards each with less. Thanks for video!

Ive been t4ying to get ride of my slight open club face at the top. Tried all the different feels, tray, right hand feel, top of left hand to the sky…. But never left palm to the ground… it clicked !!! Weird how different things work for different people Good stuff
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, @Jf Vezina! I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason is why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. This has DRASTICALLY improved my irons. On short par threes I have total confidence that I can put right next to the green if not right on it every time now. My driving is still a bit meh but I’ll keep on at it.
Awesome job with the irons!! With regard to the driver, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o0xscMyN3v8.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. Thanks for sharing your dramatic improvement with the irons, keep up the great work, and who knows? - perhaps your crispy ball striking may convince your stubborn club-lifting brother to come over here to "the dark side"..... 😎 Tom

Excellent, Bob! I did see and respond to your previous message on this fantastic accomplishment. Now it's time to get those longer clubs dialed in!! Tom
It depends on the type of hook, Kyle. Pull-hook? Push-hook (overdraw)? Your answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line, and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then back into the cause of a sideways shot and reverse engineer it. FYI, there are entire sections of my online school dedicated to diagnosing and resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? Hi Tom - Could you move your hands slightly towards the target at address to start with a flatter wrist and hold that through the swing? Would this cause other issues?
The stock address position for this swing has the hands even with the inside of the lead thigh, Ross, so that already presets them ahead of the ball for standard shots. Also, a strong grip tends to preset a cupped lead wrist condition, whereas a more neutral attachment will flatten it out. Thanks John - I'm glad you enjoyed it! The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball! Tom

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it! Nothing about the golf swing is technically "new" since physics, geometry, and human physiology have been around for a pretty long time - like since creation! 😎 However, reminders and simplified explanations of key elements of the swing never get old! Cheers, Tom
@@SagutoGolf Hi Tom, wow this is a big surprise to me! Never expected an answer from you😂So thank you very much. You are absolutely right, reminders are helpful, even there are long forgotten! What helped me a lot, was your video from Hogan s trick, to press the right elbow to the hip in the beginning of the backswing. Great, also the baseball swing idea! You have a different look on the golf game, which I like, very unusual! Itś a pity you to far away from me, to book a lesson personal! 😭
@Sharky - That lesson on Mr. Hogan's "magic elbow" has helped countless golfers across the globe to overcome a myriad of issues and experience great ball striking. I'm very glad to know that it also resonated well with you! No worries about the in-person lesson as at least for the time being I have phased out private instruction so I can further dedicate my efforts in support of the online school. I will, however, continue the V1 Swing Video Analysis lessons as they are instrumental to the progress of my school's members, and these can be done for anyone from anywhere across the globe, school member or not. This enables me to put my eyes on your swing and offer some very specific observations and corrective action plans if applicable. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on.
