Join us as we explore a new electric fence setup this year; I really think its going to work! Oh, and its HOT. Drop a comment and let me know your thoughts.
NOTE: Due to editor and camera issues, I lost much of quality install footage. Videoing had to be salvaged using a older GoPro and experiences some shaking and audio issues, my apologies.

The deer ate my 2 acres of sunflowers and an acre of peas. I replanted the sunflowers, yesterday. I don’t have any help with installing an electric fence. I’m going with the motion detectors, Irish spring soap and fish emulsion. I’m not a deer hunter, I only hunt doves and ducks. After this, I’m gonna thin the herd. I’ll keep my friends freezers stocked.

I think that 45 degree top part will help a lot to deter the deer. I've got to get my video together of putting up my fence. I did a short, but I need to do the entire video. I went with the 3D (double row) fence. I only have the exterior part electric. If they go past it I may have to put up an interior hot line too. My sunflowers are looking good, but I keep having new plants pop up and it is really delaying me on putting out any post emergents since I need to wait for them to mature some. Although, the pre-emergents are really working well to keep weeds down. I'm looking forward to your next update.

Would love to see your full video, I think for places that dont have the strong wooden posts for the 45 the double row is what is needed

I hot wired a small soybean plot with standard braided wire and didn’t have the tape. I used a 2 row fence with the high wire inside nd tied flagging tape to the wire to make it more visible.

Add one conductor on the outside 3ft away and smear peanut butter on the wire several random spots. They'll get the hint

Id plant the millet NOW through second weed of June at the latest. You need 60 days to mature then another 14 to dry out if you want to burn. Id do it this weekend if you can. I am spreading my this week after work, May 30th-ish

WAY overkill. All you need are two rows. One about 18" off the ground and the other at about 4 feet. An Old farmer taught me a trick. Use the tape. smear peanut butter on both rows. This will attract the does, AND fawns. when the lick it they will be taught real quick to not go near the fence. We did this last year and had NO deer tracks in our field that we could find and had NO leafless plants. They learn very fast toi stay away from the fence. Did the same this year and Again NO deer tracks in our sunflowers at all.

Do you leave all your posts in the ground? Do you keep the area between the rows maintained? We did a two row system the first year and it was way more work than this now that we have permanent posts. Couple laps around running wire and done. The fiberglass posts come out easily

@@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors No we don't keep them in the ground. We pull em just before we bushing some rows before the season. I tell ya you don't need to run all that fence and wire. Teach them to stay away BEFORE the plants are 4 leaves old and they will NOT go near that fence. Teach the does to teach the fawns an you have it made. I get a couple of 5 pound tubs of cheap peanut butter at the local restaurant supply house and put on some rubber gloves and walks the tape smearing the stuff on it. Plug the fence back in and we are good to go. All that angled and tall stuff is a waste of time and money. Not to mention it is stretching your fence controller too far.

@@jsimpson8018 Putting posts in and out every year sounds like a lot more work to me. We have dogs around, dont want them licking the fence. The top two rows are not hot, I mention that in the video. That controller is fine, 3 mile range and we have about 4000 ft on it, so less than a mile. I was out there this morning, field has not been touched. Thanks for watching

@@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors Just like the deer, the dogs will only do it once Your dogs, and mine, are way smarter than the deer, not going to hurt them. I would rather set stakes and pull them up as opposed to pounding or drilling post holes and that is not to mention the expense. Makes for an exciting video but way too much work. I re-use the stakes and the tape.
