Someone actually completed one of the project guitars I sold - and in record time! If you enjoyed this video - maybe I'll make one of the next ones if/when they're done. 🔴Reverb: reverb.com/item/33648978-1970s-gibson-les-paul-custom-blue-burst?_aid=growsumo&gs_partner=Trogly 💰New to Reverb? I was hoping this was the Les paul that had the neck sanded down to the truss rod and the body thinned out to nothing. But still a beautiful job and nice save
Trogly if u have any beat guitar pads and body I can make a guitar out of I'd love to buy it..I want a beat looking guitar that's solid.. I'd dnt have to be pretty at all..that one looked great bare natural
He did a hell of a job. If it had a few worn spots on the neck an arm rubs and pick scrapes, you would think it was original. Just something about the black custom. 😍
An English Man's shed, is his castle. 😊 It was always the case as a young kid growing up in the 60s. After WWII there was a general lack of 'stuff' available to most Brits and almost everyone's Dad's would create, renovate, restore and repair the things that couldn't be bought or cost too much to own. Think Brian May and his Dad 😊. Great to see that there are still folk with the wherewithal to carry on this tradition. A great job, well done. To me the guitar looks just as it should and I guess it plays well too. 👍😊
I agree! It’s rare on RU-vid for people to watch all the way to the end, so I try to put little fun things at the end of mine hoping to convince people to stay
Phoenix rises from the ashes! Nice refin job. Keep sharing the restoration projects as they are finished. Cool video as always Austin. God bless and rock on 🎸👍😎
Thats awesome I love seeing other people projects.People do things differently than each other and sometimes you get great ideas from one another.I think the guitar community is a great one.
But Ronson's guitar top was stunning, which makes the ''natural finish'' a lot better. This guitar doesn't have that killer top, but i'm a huge Black Beauty Les Paul fan, so it's probably my interior fanboy talking.
That was awesome to see! Yes, I'd really dig to see the others brought back to be enjoyed again. I'm currently in the process of saving an early 70's Gibson SG Custom.
Thanks for keeping us up to date with such a great restoration! There are so many things that could have gone wrong and it looks killer. Bonus points for the owner when he really bonded with the instrument.
Just bought my first Gibson today! Your videos have helped me immensely in understanding what too look for, when they were made, and why. Now im the proud owner of an 08 custom shop les paul cherry burst with some nice subtle flame too the top & nearly mint. Oh man i didn't realize what i was missing all these years ebony board slick like grease and tone for miles haha :D
Damn... so he's a stop-motion animator, a very talented first time re-finisher, and a tasty guitar player. That playing demo at the end...very niiiiiiiiice
So awesome to see these guitars followed up and completed! Please keep up with this series it’s so inspiring to see the finishes that can be achieved at home! Great content thanks!
Love the channel! However, G&L is criminally underrepresented here! they're amazing axes with a cool history. also the dual fulcrum vibrato alone is worth documenting!
I play in a band with a fella who has a plain top LP in a natural finisher and in my opinion it’s as nice or even nicer than many of the flame tops I’ve seen. The grain is really nice and pops with a natural finish.
Love this video. Keep them coming. Reminds me of a train wreck 1987 Les Paul Custom project I did 4 years ago. (Headstock AND neck break..) Plays like a dream now. Love your content!
I think you should add guitar restorations to your channel. It'd be super cool to learn how to do a restoration job as professionally as possible but understand other people's process of saving guitars from the grave and bringing them back to life!
It is a better job than some of pro jobs that I've seen lately in my locality in the UK. I'm especially invested in this project as the guy is in 5 miles away from where I grew up in London.
Yes Trogly, lets see more! We would definitely like to see more guitar restored videos, looks like you need to go find more projects and make some of them videos... bit like pimp my ride.. but Trogly pimp my Axe!
I think it looks awesome. It still looks like a vintage guitar in good shape. I think that was the best approach he could have taken. And yeah, he could’ve went with a 100 different colors. But this guitar had a lot of red saturated deep in the wood and various other things that could’ve prevented him from choosing another color , or even keep it natural. So black was the logical choice. For a first effort, it looks pretty damn cool. It’s obvious this guy has skills.
Bravo to the guy who did that restoration job. And his first one no less! Think he'd cut his teeth on an Epi or funky budget Gibson but nope, he jumped right in head first. Dig the black but you know what, that natural top looked pretty nice after he cleaned it up. Maybe a new stain on the back and finish and I think it would have been a pretty handsome LP. Still, excellent job. This was pretty cool! I'm looking forward to more of these restoration videos.
Liking the beautiful natural wood on the top and bottom. Should have been coated with transparent or semi-transparent paint, and then left alone. Definitely NOT painted black. There oughta be a law! However, the beautiful sound and masterful playing at the end, fully compensates for the Sin. Keep 'em flyin', Trogly! 8)
My best LP is a 73 Custom BB FW with embossed pups. Gold embossed pups lasted a few months into 73 til they ran out. This LP is utterly beat to sht with a double spline headstk repair that contours the vollute, body filler and a finish from hell. I crowned the micro frets and they are super accurate now. This axe absolutely screams, but like every old Custom I've ever played, It sucks when you pick it up, but 10 minutes later, you can't put it down.
