When I hear the dogs, it reminds me of a cool Autumn evening where I'm standing in my heavily wooded back yard. When all the leaves lay on the ground and the dark orange of a setting sun smudges it's fat shoulders through the tips of the trees and smolders. And the dogs, always the dogs, of a distant neighbor...they bark and they bark and know something I don't. So I just stand there with a blank stare and a heart full of something just listening to this lullaby at Dusk.. and the last bit of daylight sticks to my eye and I turn to go inside. Or something like that.

1959 for me. Personally I always thought "Animals" was the last great Floyd album. I consider "The Wall' to be a Roger Waters album with special guests: David Gilmour & Nick Mason.

Animals is an awesome album and it was the favorite Pink Floyd album of their drummer Nick Mason. Great drumming and don’t forget throughout the entire album Richard Wright’s keyboards were amazing -the glue and webbing that holds the entire thing together. rest in peace Richard Wright

Back in the 70's a buddy and I did some very little purple pills and noticed we needed beer so off to the beer store we went .The purple pills were really kicking and as we floated down the sidewalk we heard some dogs barking off in the distance and we looked at each other and I said " wow, they are playing Pink Floyd out here" I could go on and on about the rest of our beer TRIP but maybe some other time...

Awwww! Man! I was just going to bed when this notification popped up and I foolishly clicked on it instead of leaving it till tomorrow. I should know better. Now I'm going to have to stay up and listen to the whole album because my brain won't let me hear just one track from Animals, it will keep yammering at me and won't let me sleep until I feed it Pigs and Sheep as well - greedy Floydy brain!. Oh well, who needs sleep when you can be listening to the Floyd?

I'm glad you heard this song. I felt the same way, when I first heard it in 1977. Totally captivated. Like they wanted to make music that they enjoyed playing together. Pink Floyd are musicians AND sound engineers, with a stereo field palette for all their instruments, voices, and other sounds. The middle is quite something, eh? Layers of vintage keyboard textures, a GIANT-sounding big bass drums, the echoing sto-ohne...sto-ohne...sto-ohne...subtle bass drone synth tones in an expansive 6/4 meter with the drums, vocoder filtered barking dogs, and a twisty-sounding MiniMoog synth lead, back into the acoustic guitars, from the beginning. I never get tired of this song. The other 2 long songs from this album (Animals) are definitiely worth a listen too. Pigs-3 different ones, and Sheep. Both are absolute bangers! You will not be disappointed.

one of the main reasons the music you grew up with sounds so watered down is that people don't take the time to craft music anymore. someone can sit in their bedroom over a weekend and monday morning put out a new song. animals came out two years after wish you were here. most of the songs on animals were in the process of creation during the wish you were here tour. when you put that much time and effort into your music this is what you come up with...a masterpiece. with regard to the time between albums,i hope all of you just now discovering this music appreciate how lucky you are to have entire catalogs of it laid out for you to hear. those of us who grew up with it had to wait....and wait....and wait for the next album to come out.

This album was made up of 4 songs.....'Pigs On The Wing' ( ...a short intro at the beginning & a reprise at the end...) 'Dogs'....'Pigs-3 Different Kinds'.......& 'Sheep'. Imagine, we could've had a DOUBLE album.....if they'ed only done some tracks for horses, chickens & cows.

I wouldn't start him with Close To the Edge. You have to build up to that one by first listening to a number of other Yes tracks. Gain some familiarity and appreciation for the band before diving in to that one. Also, I'm sure it was just a typo but the second song you listed is actually "Awaken". Yes is another very deep rabbit hole. A few more suggestions...Starship Trooper, Yours is No Disgrace, Perpetual Change, South Side Of The Sky, Long Distance Runaround + The Fish (these two have to be done together), And You and I.

Gilmour played bass on sheep and bass (including fretless bass) on pigs. A quote from Gilmour: "On Animals Roger played bass on "Dogs" and I played bass on "Sheep" and "Pigs." Most of the bass line on "Sheep" (apart from the ending) was what Roger had been playing onstage, as we had been performing it as "Raving and Drooling" for a couple of years. However, in the studio Roger had a rhythm guitar part he wanted to play, so we swapped roles. On "Pigs" the part and the playing are mine."

I love watching you fall down the rabbit hole. Okay, I have to tell you that there are several Pink Floyd albums that are meant to be listened to front to back, first track to last. They are concept albums and TOGETHER tell a story. They are - Dark Side of the Moon, WIsh You Were Here, Animals, The Wall. Not only do they tell a story together, but usually, the songs don't really end, it just seems like a transition. If you were to listen again to Time followed immediately by Great Gig in the Sky, you will understand. (And you probably don't know that when you listened to Time, it actually included Breathe reprise at the end.)

I graduated from HS when JFK was killed. I guess I'm older than anyone else on your comments! Me and my late husband and all of our friends from back then grew up listening to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Queen and the rest of the great groups. We all knew how lucky we were. Hearing them live just can't be put into words. Can't say that about modern music! Just be thankful we have great recordings and that some of the musicians are still alive and they are still better than any of the newer ones!

Carolyn, I'm 54 so I missed out on the meat and potatoes of life, politics, and especially the music scene between 1960 and 1980. This is a period in history that I have delved deep into through a wonderful collection of "rock star" bio's, Hollywood and movie bios, documentaries etc etc. I'm absolutely fascinated about the transition in music from the late 50's early 60's all the Vietnam stuff through to the 70's (Elvis, Doo Wop Jerry Lee Lewis et al to the folk scene with Dylan, Joan Baez, then bands like the Byrds, Stones , The Who etc to the psychedelia of Hendrix and The Doors, to Zep, Sabbath, Rod Stewart, Alice Cooper, my god the list is endless. My only saving grace is that by the time I was 20 in 1986 I had amassed a very cool/eclectic collection of a lot of the music I was to young to experience when it was new. Cheers from canada.

Another great reaction from you, young man. There is one thing, though, that you don't mention when comparing these great bands of yesteryear with those of today, and that is the MESSAGE in the song itself. It's understandable, because it's easy to get lost in the sheer musical genius in the creation and delivery of songs like Dogs. But when you get into the actual meaning behind the lyrics, it's rendered all that much more powerful.

some people are gonna get upset with this comment and if so oh well. First of all for you to say this is right up there with Bohemian Rhapsody Free bird, to me was just silly, those two songs and only hope to be up there with Dogs and so many other Pink Floyd Songs. But I am a bit biased since I think Bohemian Rhapsody is a piece of garbage , can't go near it, and Free Bird was kind good song when it came out, but would turn the channel if it came on. Now partly right about Stairway because it came out first. I may have said here before Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are 1 and 2 favorites all time. Animals is a great album. If you like Rock with exceptionally good musicians, try these... *Sign of the Southern Cross - by Black Sabbath (Dio on Vocals) *Dreamer Deceiver / Deciever - by Judas Priest * Blue Jean Blues - ZZ Top * All We Are - Warlock * Love Machine - W.A.S.P * I Need you tonight - ZZ Top ...The STUDIO Versions of all those above are usually best, as it generally has more layers and better production. For more Floyd, you will like * Shine on you Crazy Diamond Pt 1 - 4 * Coming Back to Life * Marooned And From David Gilmour (Pink Floyds Guitarist & Vocalist) try his Solo songs... * Blue * 5am When i first heard Animals, at about your age in the early 80s, i was so into the Vibe of it, esp the guitar, that i didnt really analyze the message they were telling. I was riding the wave if the vibe. The words spoke to me strongly, but it wasnt their message. It was my own personal message for me. And is how ive always related to floyds words. Its always personal. Like on 'Welcome to the Machine', it sings... "youve been in the pipeline filling in time" ...to me the Pipeline was Storm Drains in Australia, with about 1.5m diametre. I would go into these Drains and smoke and listen to Floyd. It was my man cave, an escape from the outside reality. Sometimes with friends, sometimes alone, we'd smoke (it was strong n pure back then)... sensimilla, thai sticks, buddha, purple heads, etc. So good you could trip. Then we'd walk for hours inside the pipelines with lighters or torches. It was another whole world, and network labyrinth of pipes. That was before the days when they put cages over the entrances. Good they did though, coz some people were stupid enough to go into the pipelines in rain times, and some died. Can be dangerous so i dont recommend it. Anyway thats where i was ..."filling in time" and how the song spoke to me. And "you bought a guitar to..." It was David Gilmour who inspired me to pick up lead guitar. The dogs barking in 'Dogs' was my journeys with my own Dog. Little statement here in there spoke directly to me. So PFs lyrics will always be Peesonal to me, and rarely about how they related to it. Some statements in their songs spoke so deeply to me, that it lead me to reflect on my own life, and where i was going, and what i needed to change in my life to arrive at my highest vision of myself for the moments that were current then. But Dave spoke to me just as strongly through the way he emotes his guitar. They werent ahead of their time. They are channeling from outside of Time & Space, and for that reason they will always touch Souls deeply. Share ypur love of PF with your friends and family, and ask them to share it on. Their recording are too good not to be rekindled into the future generations. And you are doing exactly that through your reaction channel. Keep finding new ways to share them. Pass on the seed. Keep the flame alive. Rock on man ✌😎

Browsing through your video catalog. Looking for some iconic songs. This is definitely one. The album this song is featured on -- Animals -- didn't impress me very much upon first listen. I bought it when it was first released. The reviews were a little cool for it. Rolling Stone Magazine in particular rated it around 2 out of 5 stars. [ I shared this bit of information a few months ago on another Reaction Videos Channel. Someone took exception to it. I guess he was a Pink Floyd apologist. I clearly recalled the album receiving mixed reviews. I googled it and did find the original Rolling Stone article. My memory served me correctly. But the album did receive good reviews from others. It is irrefutably a great album. ] But after a couple or 3 listens, I found myself being called back to more servings of this incredible album. I would be at work, in the middle of my duties, and suddenly my thoughts would go to Animals. Couldn't wait to get home and listen to the entire album again. On my Bose headphones. And Dogs -- this song is an all-timer for me. Mesmerizing. Transfixing. Mind-blowing. But of course, the entire album is good.

If you ever get a chance..listen to The Narrow Way from Ummagumma. I know a lot of people will disagree with me but everything after The Wall is subpar since that is when all the fighting and tension within Pink Floyd started. I have been listening to them since I was 6 years old, they are my favorite band!

It's sad that there is no official live video of this album. There are unofficial versions, but of poor quality. We can easily conclude that no one at that time could imagine mainstream broadcasting platforms. At least I saw Pink Floyd (In the Flesh Tour) in 1977 in Montreal. Subsequently, I also saw the 1988 and 1994 tours.

the full album is stunning just like the early floyd albums in my opinion up to mid 80s albums then when waters left , went off the boil,a few modern bands will be reacted to likes of tool ,system ov a down ect you should have a listern to frank zappa first album 1967 freak out then joes garage part 11 and his albums over a 100 of them lol a true muso"s music, deep purple smoke on the water is about franks zappa gig

Next reaction of pink floyd. One of these days at Pompeii 2016. Proof again you dont need lyrics to send a message or transport you to another place.

The only reason this song isn't picked out is that the whole album matches the quality of this Pink Floyd rarely released singles It's just like the best shows don't get awards as their votes are split many ways

As you have stated, the 60's and 70's music is unlike any other period of time. Many groups were experimenting (thank you John, Paul, George and Ringo). While Pink Floyd is certainly a great band, try the band YES. Start with their Roundabout song. There is also Emerson, Lake and Palmer ( aka ELP). For the heavier sound, Deep Purple (Highway Star song), Black Sabbath and of course Led Zeppelin. Enjoy !!!!!

Amazing stuff. THing is, PF has probably a dozen songs that could be called 'masterpiece'. next....try 'shine on you crazy diamond'. i'm gonna agree with you brother (but them i'm an old cranky guy)....music for the 60's and 70s.....it was a WHOLE other world back then. incredible time to be a young music fan. sucks getting old but i wouldn't trade that time in for anything !! keep diggin in man !

by the way I notice just about every time you break down Pink Floyd you always mention the Synthesizers, so I though you might enjoy this band of the same era had some good songs that hit the airways but had a lot gems in the trunk so to speak. they rock but give you solid dose of Synthesizers and Synthesizers solos should check them out Manfred Mann's Earth Band Solar Fire Manfred Mann's Earth Band Spirits In The Night Manfred Mann's Earth Band Time Is Right Manfred Mann's Earth Band Crossfade-instrumental MANFREND MANN'S EARTH BAND - Countdown-instrumental manfred mann's earth band Fat Nelly Manfred Mann´s Earth Band - Visionary Mountain Manfred Mann's Earth Band Saturn, Lord Of The Ring, Mercury The Winged Messenger-instrmntl Manfred Mann's Earth Band Waiter, There is A Yawn In My Ear- intrumental Manfred Mann's Earth Band - The Road To Babylon Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Quit Your Low Down Ways Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Father Of Day, Father Of Night Manfred Mann's Earth Band - In the Beginning Darkness Manfred Mann's Earth band Sky High-instrumental Manfred Mann's Earth band Give Me The Good Earth Manfred Mann's Earth Band Nightingales & Bombers instrumental Manfred Mann's Earth Band As Above So Below -instrumental From Manfred Mann's Earth Band - This side of Paradise MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND - Starbird Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Pluto the Dog - intstrumental Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Nightingales & Bombers "The title of this album was inspired by a recording made in Surrey, England during the Second World War, by an ornithologist intending to record Nightingales. The bombers flew over at the same time and were recorded by accident. The recording has been incorporated in 'As Above, So Below'". - Manfred Mann 1975[3] (In fact, the recording was made on May 1942 by a BBC sound engineer for the BBC. Intending to capture the nightingale's song he also, by accident, recorded the sound of RAF bombers on their way to attack Mannheim, Germany.) hear them toward the end of the song.
