Welcome to The Frey Life daily vlogs! We are Peter & Mary, a married couple in our early 30's, showing the ups and downs of everyday life with #CysticFibrosis, a genetic lung disease that Mary was born with. In August 2019, Mary started a new CF medication that changed the trajectory of our future, and life has changed dramatically - including our son, Elijah, joining our family in December 2021. We also have an adorable standard poodle, Oliver, and a hairless sphynx cat, Harry. It's our hope that these videos can be an encouragement to to celebrate the little things in life and find joy amidst a world full of hard realities!

love that you guys sit down and eat and chat. it’s so calming! I am overcoming shameful eating practices and disordered eating (with a history of bulemia) so watching you all eat “normal” food helps me to remember that I don’t have to eat perfectly nutritious food all the time. I can enjoy foods I love and have fun with it!

Having MRI IS SO ANXIOUS DUE TO SEVERE CLAUSTROPHOBIA from severe Child ab… so I use to be put to sleep so the one upside to my Pacemaker and Defibrillator is I can’t have an MRI. New problem was I didn’t want to be put on ventilator but my thoracic surgeon said I would probably need to since I had waited until I was almost dead (no joke) before going to ER I was Dry Drowning in my own blood from blown Heart valves most people get a new valve and go home in 4or5 days I died on the table, 4 blood transfusions and on ventilator for a week and in hospital for another month Once you get your chest sawed open and literally die not much freak’s me out.

I've had a heart ablation where they threaded a wire, catheter, through your femoral artery in the groin to the inside of my heart to stop an SVT event. Amazing how medicine has advanced! I chose to not be awake for this procedure. If this is the course you will be taking its not that bad but you do have to lay still for many, many hours afterwards. I'm pretty sure you can handle this procedure if it comes to that. Which ever way it goes Mary, you can handle it! I wish you all the best.

You guys make me sooooo excited, just to watch you guys and your journey through adoption and CF. I don’t have CF, I have severe heart problems and am in need of a transplant one day. My situation is just like yours, I’m hanging in there but I have my bad times where I’m super close to needing a transplant. I’m pushing through it though and we just changed my meds around again. So my heart has been feeling a little better. Me and my fiancé are getting married in February of 2023 and we have been slowly preparing to adopt a baby also. We just started getting the baby room set up. Watching you guys from years ago (being in Scotland) all the way to now, just motivates me so much. God is so good 💙

Hi Mary, I just wanted to mention that I always .... close my eyes and just keep them closed, before they slide me in any MRI machine... I just relax and think about other things, and let it finish... So I don't feel claustrophobic at all ! I hope that will help. You are so very good with your cute baby! I watch you a lot. I don't know if that was you that I met briefly in a Houston Costco a few years ago, with Oliver. I was saying that he was so big and beautiful then, that my mother used to breed poodles. I didn't know you then. You are a very nice family !!!

I agree. I keep having to have endoscopies because I have lots of ulcers in my stomach, pylorus and duodenum (none of the tablets they have given me have worked, I think I’ve had 8 or 9 scans). They have gotten worse every time. I keep telling them before they start, if I start gagging please just stop moving so my body can stop - instead they carry on going as fast as possible, constantly pumping my stomach full of air and it’s horrible. Afterwards it makes it impossible for me to keep food and water down for about a week. The pain from the stretching of the muscles takes even longer - all because they couldn’t just wait a minute for me to overcome the gagging reflex.

Totally agree with the stress levels of medical stuff. I have also found something which was easy for years can suddenly become anxiety inducing. It's like your body says enough, we have done this so many times and no more. I also had numerous ERCP's and was fine for the first few but felt really anxious the more I had, it is like you feel your luck will run out and you will have a bad reaction.

Bless your heart Mary. I am so very happy to hear they are doing a study first before going in blind. This i hope for you is a open type mri. When my daughter has a type of test where they had to inject dye while she was on the machine it was a type of machine like the MRI machine but a big round circle around just maybe 3 feet and her head was out. When I had my last MRI I asked them to please turn off the forced air because in the closed one I had before I literally felt like I couldn't breath because of the forced air. So the next one the guy was so nice and turned it off. I like the open MRI 100% better and my clostrafobia was none at all.

I hope that whatever happens with your port, it will all work out and be okay! Hopefully the worry ahead of time will be the worst part. It’s good to hear you talk about this as it helps you and others know that we are not alone. MRIs are hard for me too. I needed a brain MRI several years ago too, but I just could not do it. Luckily, they were able to get what they needed by using a CT scan and some blood work instead, phew! Now there’s another challenge ahead for my family. My mom will be having surgery for thyroid cancer next week. She’s feeling positive about it and not too worried, but I have been feeling super nervous about it. But I know it will be okay, I just keep telling myself that and praying. Life can be scary sometimes, but it’s also great and we can all do it! ❤️

(better than any of my other prev surgeries) Of course its still surgery but even in my thyroidectomy group on fb SO many said it went much easier than they ever expected n i pray it would for your mom too! 💗 She or you might find the fb groups helpful too. Theyre great for the fears before n recovery after. I could also share a few tips that really helped w recovery if u like. Either way praying it all goes smoothly n they get every bit of cancer! 🙏🙏

@@emilyh.9240 Hi im so sorry for the late reply ive been very sick but you n your mom have been in my prayers. 💜🙏 Im not sure if shes had the surgery yet but ill keep praying for a successful n smooth surgery n easy recovery! 💗 Here are some of the things that helped me through my total thyroidectomy n recovery. I hope its helpful to her! *Ice packs! This is huge! they should give her some for the car ride if its esp long otherwise just have some waiting at home. the flexible ones are a lifesaver! *Neck pillow. Some say they found it better w.o one n others like myself found it to be very helpful n nesc to get sleep bc you dont want you head to hang down esp in the beggining. *Easy clothing, i thought my clothes would be fine but they were higher cut than i realized so at least one or two low cut shirts or dresses. I found a button down shirt the best for day of surgery n first few days after, no pulling shirt over my head lol *Shoft chew rolaids were so much easier than the chalky ones seems silly but they made it much easier to get down n those are vital while recovering bc it can make your calcium drop so shell be taking quite a few everyday but only temporarily. I hope those help some n really hope n pray everything goes super smoothly n is successful for her! 💗🙏🙏

@Joy Elizabeth Sorry for my late reply now. We just got back in town because we traveled out of state for my mom’s surgery and have been pretty worn out. It went very well! They were hoping to just remove half of her thyroid, but their scan ahead of time showed that it would be best to take it all. The surgery took a bit longer than expected because of that and because she had some scar tissue in the area from a previous surgery (not thyroid related). Luckily, it all went well, and they don’t even think she will need the radioactive iodine, so we are very grateful for that. So far, her recovery is going well. Her voice is very hoarse, but they say it should recover. She hasn’t had much pain at all. Thank you for sharing what was helpful for you! I got to read your message before hand, but I didn’t have time to respond at the time because things have been so busy and on the road. I shared your tips with her and she appreciated them very much. She made sure to bring easy clothing and a neck pillow. The ice packs helped a lot! Definitely less swelling because of them. She already had some regular chalky Tums so didn’t want to buy something else, but the chewy ones will be a nice change if she has to keep taking them long term. Thank you again for all of your prayers! I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been sick. I will pray for you and hope that you’re already feeling better! Thank you again! ❤️🙏💜

I hear you on the anxiety. A couple of months ago I had a mild heart attack which required heart catheterization. I was terrified. They went in through my wrist artery. They put in five stents to open my arteries. While I’m glad it’s over it wasn’t bad at all. Virtually no pain. Only complication was that I wasn’t careful enough with my wrist after the procedure and got a hematoma. Wasn’t really a big issue though. Hope they get your port sorted. I have to get regular infusions so I know about the port option. Fortunately I have good veins so I’m an easy “stick” and haven’t needed port.

I suffer from claustrophobia and many other health issues. I need an MRI on my mouth for a tumour and with emphysema and arthritis I was terrified of laying flat and still for 40 minutes. I have real difficulty breathing when flat on my back. I am going to take some ventolin to open my airways and do some deep breathing and meditation exercises to get me through it. It has worked well for me in the past. And I have had the heart catheter test and it was really painless and nothing to worry about. I know it’s hard to deal with health issues and the medical invasions on your body but using meditation is the best way to get through them.

When I found out I was diabetic and had to give myself a couple needles every day it was scary. I thought to myself what would Mary do. Being diagnosed during a pandemic I had no one to show me how to it all, they sent me a kit and was told it was all in the pack and good luck. It was all confusing, not only that but the pen was broken it was replaced 3xs. I almost gave up so, I tried with a syringe while watching you. I was so proud of myself when I didn't even hesitate. I will always be thankful to you for giving me the courage to do what I had to do. With all my other medical things going on, Diabetes is the easiest to through. Again, Thank-you. Have a lovely day!!

The port study was really not bad. I thought it would be a huge, complicated, and scary thing but it didn't hurt at all and they found a fibrin sheath. My port was replaced completely because IR thought it would be more simple to replace it than to do the cath and strip it. Hope it goes well for you and you get good news with a more simple solution.

I have had the port study and stripping (along with my fair share of other issues). Going through your groin is easy, only thing is after you have to stay flat for a while so you don’t start bleeding. The port study is easy, they take pics first (it is under fluoroscopy), then inject the dye, and take more pics. It’s like a “C” arm that rotates around to take the pics. I’m hoping all goes well for you!

**hugs n prayers mary** 💜🙏 Im so sorry ur going through all this w your port 🙁 Even though I have different illnesses i still relate to a lot of what you said. I do the same thing w playing music that reminds me of God's Truths n Promises. And repeat to myself "im okay im okay" when im clearly not lol hey technically we've made it through 100% of those times! 😊 I actually found a really good battle song a few months ago ive been playing it non stop its called One More Round by Barlow Girls n its such a great fight song reminding us that we can do this n that God's helped us win every battle before n He won't stop now!! 🙌🙌 I hope itll help u too! 💜 Praying for you! Dear Lord please carry Mary through this port study. Let it go smoothly n show good clear results. Help the drs be able to fix her port n please surround Mary in Your overflowing peace, comfort, n strength! Thank You Lord!! I lift up all these things In Your Name Jesus Amen 💜🙏🙏

Nope sweet potatoes don't taste like carrots, but, you can boil carrots and put butter in the water and brown sugar and cinnamon. 👍
