I've had some good experiences with AirBnb but if I have the opportunity to book directly I always choose that. I have also now noticed what feels like a bait and switch on their platform where the advertised fee is not even close to what it costs once the cleaning fees are added in. I have no doubt that some guests are slobs and deserve a higher cleaning charge. I don't live that way and I don't travel that way and if I have to spend a half day before I leave doing the job of a cleaning service (stripping the beds, taking out the trash, and more) I'll just stay at a hotel.

I have an airbnb also, and I don't actually have security cameras, but if I were you I would keep the cameras and if you're good at writing send them a notice. I would let them know that I would intend to sue them and talk to a lawyer and figure out how to word the letter, etc. Likely they will back down. I have some issues with airbnb in that they don't really give you much information about the guests that book, and so far I haven't had any serious problem, but I am wondering if i I ever have to call the police for anything and I don't have the guests details whether airbnb actually has all the info on file and if they will respond right away.

Good thoughts! I do believe AirBnB has more information on guests than they pass through to hosts.

I've stayed at many AirBnbs apartments (we only rent the entire apartments, never rooms). I have no issue with exterior cameras (great for security), but interior cameras are really intrusive. I am constantly walking from the bedroom to the kitchen in my underwear to get some water or something. I know many people who have stopped using AirBnbs, because of the interior cameras (also the prices hve gone up so much that they are no longer competitive with hotels). If you are running a place like a hostel, that might be different. But private apartments should not be using interior cameras.

We agree with everything you said! But we are a bed and breakfast in a resort town, and we have never had cameras pointing into our guest rooms - just porch, beverage/ice station, and hallways. Always for good - not for bad!
