Took a good decade off of skating (15-25)... drugs, partying, work, you know the deal. A friend reached out to me a few months back to go skating and I said fuck it why not. Managed to land a tre and a few kickflips and it felt so good I went out and set up a new board a few days later. He turned me onto your channel too, and since then skating has kind of taken over my life. When I was growing up almost all of the skating I was was watching was pretty refined. Everything I saw was in video parts, aside from a few local shredders. Seeing how truly consistent you are on a skateboard made me realize what skating can be. It doesn't have to be about hucking yourself down big stuff to get clips. Watching you flow around a park is kind of like watching a really talented musician improvise. It has inspired me to get back on the board and get serious about improving... not for a sponsorship or a brand deal, but for the incredible feeling of flowing around and being able to express yourself on a skateboard. You're the man Dan, keep it up!

Dan! Here is another comment you’ve seen a million times. Your videos got me back into skating! I’m 44 and just had my first session in 8 years! I always was a pressure flip guy so its perfect timing for me! I lost kick flips but P-flips variations have always been super easy for me! Thanks Dan; for helping me get back on it!! You can bet your ass I’ll be trying slappy crooks thanks to you!

For real man. Watching your videos motivated me to get back into it this summer. Was only skating once every couple of months, and it was so discouraging not having any of my old tricks. This summer I've been getting out there as much as possible and it's been amazing. Learned so many tricks, got a bunch of old stuff back, even been filming stuff in the streets.

Since you love hearing this comment. Your videos got me back into skating after a decade off. I went to my first skatepark at 36, ollied a 3 stair and boardslid a shin high rail. Its not much for good skaters but felt amazing to start and do things I had never done consistently when I was younger.

I know exactly what you meant about your knee because high popped shuv it's were my jam. At 31 i did 1 down a drop. Caught it but kicked out because my upper body felt off balance a bit. I landed with my left leg locked on accident and ruptured my ACL. I needed my buddies to help me hobble to the side of the park. *My best advice is: if possible always try to commit to landing it. If u have to kick out, it's always better to roll with the impact instead of trying to land on your feet. Even if you land fine on your feet, it's a quick way to burn out your feet from the impact. *It sounds so "simple & obvious" but for some reason it's not intuitive everytime you jump down something, and it's something i wish i could go back and do differently all the time.

Funny enough, this is the video that is gonna get me out there skating again. I just turned 30 and have struggled with back problems, but I finally found good methods to get my back better slightly enough to where I feel like I can do some flat ground and simple transition stuff

HY Dan, you already know I’m one of those comments. Stopped skating 10 years ago. Folded my ankle, tore multiple ligaments and no insurance. Just an air-cast & a cane. Got back into it 2 years ago thanks to you and other channels. Just turned 39 and really got into skating again over the last 2 months with my brother. You’ve inspired me to try new tricks and I’ve learned 10 recently! Boardslides, Slappy 50-50’s front & backside, Blunt Stall 2 Nose grab 2 Disaster, even things as simple as Drop-ins that I literally never did all my previous years of skating from 13-26. Big thanks for all your content that inspires so many to skate and learn new fun tricks. _SHRED4LIFE_

Dan I’ve always thought that as you get older, the best way to get “better” at skating is to improve style and pop on the your tricks. You have a lot of knarly tricks on lock. I’m just so into style though. That’s how I want to challenge myself once I’m back at a high level. Thanks for the videos my guy. Always love watching you and the homies skate.

Well, you got me back into skating at 33! I wouldn’t even say it’s a comeback considering I quit at age 13. But it’s been two months and I’ve already far surpassed where I left off. Your videos are relatable for me because of your attitude towards skating, and the fact that you do mention that are you trying to get better. Something inside of Me has always told me that I can’t essentially learn to skate (skate well) in my mid 30s but you made me believe in myself!

Yo i restarted at 30 and now i am 33 and i became better and better. And i am a young father, i have a belly and i am german where the weather is bad most of the time. (I skate under a bridge when it’s winter) It’s a big illusion that you can’t get better just because you reached an age or whatever. Once you realized what „becoming“ better means, you’re nearly unstoppable

As an older skater (in his 40s) coming across your channel has been awesome and really inspiring. I don't think I'll ever be doing huge gaps and rails and stuff, but if I could get some flip tricks down and some grinds at the skate park, I'd be super stoked. Hope to always push my limits too and not get stagnant, but right now I need to learn how to just get comfy on my board first before really getting into the weeds of tricks (though I definitely practice some ollies and such for a good workout)

Hey Dan! I don't know if you'll see this; but as someone who got into skating a bit older and I'm kind of fighting the age as best I know how; I have actually started wearing compression gear under my jeans or whatever especially if I plan on jumping down obstacles or learning new tricks. I don't have the science for it but my knees just don't hurt nearly as much when I do tricks off of curbs or kickers as they do otherwise. I think it stops shit from moving around as much? Watching you confidently do shuv's down the three; but say your knees hurt is the exact thing that made me think to comment. Especially if it's getting colder I'd say give it a try for a month or so if you're going to try jumping down stuff for a while. Either way good vid ✌

I know it’s weird but I learned pop shuvit before I could Ollie. I learned to shuvit without the pop keeping your front foot centered on the board years later.
