Hi Wendy, fellow Canadian here! (MB) I love your channel! I would consider solo camping to be camping on your own, at any location. Even if there are other campers around you in the campground, if you venture out somewhere on your own, I would still say it would be solo camping.
What beautiful scenery! I love the simple things in nature. I think solo camping involves traveling alone. Food for one, accommodations for one, one making and executing all the plans
I would consider it “solo camping” regardless of the destination or location as long as you are on your own. I camp in my backyard sometimes just to enjoy the outdoor experience. It would be the same in a provincial park surrounded by other visitors. I’m still on my own.
Wow! What amazing rock formations and cool petroglyphs! I agree with everyone above who said solo camping is camping alone, just like you did. Love all your videos!
I love how diverse your experiences are. One video, you're in a tent; the next, a camper van; the next, an off-grid cabin. A canoe trip, a hike ... thank you for reinforcing it's getting out into nature that matters, not the how.
I consider solo camping when you’re camping alone. Just as you do. I also watch a couple other ladies who backpack by themselves. I give you lots of credit, maybe someday I’ll give it a try.
It is so much fun to see a place that I have visited even though I live in the Eastern US. My son and his family live on Gabriola Island in fact not far from the Gallery you took us to. It is a gorgeous place. Camping solo is any time you are by yourself. I have done it a few times but hope to do more. Thanks for taking us to that wonderful island.
Solo camper here 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽. solo camping is just me and my thoughts. Taking a break from the city life and making whatever meal I want to make while solo camping.
To me, solo camping is any kind of camping without a partner or friend. It doesn’t matter if there are strangers in the campground or if you are boondocking. You are doing all the work yourself.
What a magical place! The sandstone formations were so beautiful and the petroglyphs make you think about what the First Nation people were trying to represent. I thought I saw whales, seal, a large antelope-type animal with horns, and the sun. How fitting that it's tucked behind the church; another place for reflection. The Park was glorious and those views were breathtaking. I could spend a long time there and never be bored. Thank you for sharing that wonderful island with us. Solo camping to me is when you're by yourself, making your own decisions about where you go, and what you do are your choices. PS The Blue Lady is lovely, and has provided you with many years of exploring and happy memories.
I just found you and I am enjoying your vids. I agree with those saying solo camping is anywhere alone. I love exploring around my New York State and sometimes Pennsylvania. I always take my dog with me, so I guess I am not solo anything. Those cliffs are something I would LOVE to experience, thank you for the views
I visited Gabrila 12 years ago and went to many of the same spots (Drumbeg and the petroglyph trail). So nice to see them again in this video! One of my highlights of the whole 6 month long BC trip was a sunset kayak from Gabriola, paddling around the smaller surrounding islands. Gorgeous place
Hi Wendy! I’m sad it appears you took down your Injured video because I wanted to show my husband as a tool to remind him to watch his feet. Solo Camping: any time you’re camping or Glamping alone whether back country or in an RV. Hubby and I I are going end of May, non electric site by a Brook.
I just checked and it is still there. Bob and I are going off in the van next week so hope I will be able to include him in a video while away. I hope you and yours have a wonderful time.
Lovely outing, exploring Gabriola Island and staying at the campsite. Did you need to pay to stay there, or just reserve? Years ago i went bike riding on Galiano Island with a group of other teachers, happy memory! Thank you for this, cheers from Ontario
Hi Lise- I did have to pay but it wasn't huge at all. I could have saved the reservation fee !!!Glad you actually got to visit the island - It has a lot to offer those who go there.
Hi Wendy I 'm from Australia and solo camping for me is kissing my husband bye and heading off swag camping, bush walking, hunting for native flowers and drinking in natures beauty here in Victoria, Australia. Loving your channel and seeing your delight in nature too
It’s really cool to see you out and about. Are you allowed to collect wood when making a campfire? Solo camping for me is camping alone. Backcountry camping is dispersed camping or boondocking.
thanks Edna- In some places no. I usually bring some with me and I had a little but I saw this tree down late last fall right in the site. I looked at it as helping with early spring clean up! the crews hadn't been around yet.
I think solo camping is when you don't have anyone you know with you, even if there are other campers around. And backcountry camping is wild camping, which can be solo or with others
Great adventure Wendy! Love your van. I think solo camping to me is camping alone. Even if your at a campground with other people, because you didn’t bring a spouse or friend. I’m interested to see what it means to other people.
Wow Wendy, those rocks were amazing. We have a few areas with large rocks with small holes in them but nothing like what you shared. Solo camping- whenever you camp by yourself no matter how you do it. That’s what we call it here in my state 😊
IMO, I agree with others who say solo camping is camping with yourself as your only decision-maker and resource. Any issue that comes up you have to strategies and address accordingly. No one with you to seek assurance from or converse with
To me solo camping would mean going on a camping trip alone...whether there may be other people around that you come across you are essentially on your own. I'm new to your page and think you're amazing! I feel like i would be so scared to do the things you do but wish i weren't because it's got to be just the best and most relaxing time.
Unless you were an media IT professional in your career, I find it totally amazing that you can film and edit/create these videos so very, very professionally. Keep on keeping on, Wendy! Godspeed to you always.
That was an amazing place to see. Perhaps I may get there one day myself. As for what is Solo to me, it is anything that you do on your own. Whether there are other people around you at some point does not matter, they were not travelling with you, you are moving about on your own , you are solo .
Thank you for sharing this amazing trip , enjoyed this very much. Very interesting island. Love the van. Solo glam camping looks very cozy and comfy after the day of exploring ❤
Hi Wendy! Really enjoy your channel. I’m from the USA. I think solo camping is anytime one goes it alone. Some of your adventures I would call solo rustic or bush camping. I admire your get up and go attitude! Inspiring! Thank you for sharing.
Such beautiful sites. So many people say they're "solo" hiking, camping, backpacking, when in reality they have someone filming or staying out of view but they are not alone.
Yes, that may be so. I don't know much about that. Sometimes I think how amazing that might be but then my videos wouldn't be honest. What you see is what is. Really appreciate your comments = thank you.
I used to sail those island waters with my Dad and always wondered about and wanted to visit Gabriola Island, but never did. Thanks for bringing us there! Your images, especially of Malaspina are superb. The petroglyphs are breathtaking, too.
Solo camping is when we camp alone with no friends even tho we are at the campground with some other campers that we don’t know. But either way Wendy you camp solo or with friends/Bob I still like to watch your video, the fact that your husband is very supportive of you making the video is a true gentleman.
Hi Wendy, we enjoyed your video today. About the solo camping question, I would say camping on your own, on your own site. When camping solo in the back country, I would see that as solo backcountry camping. Thanks for your video!
My goodness, what a beautiful place to explore. The history behind both the human carvings and the nature made give the place such a majestic and serene feel. Thank you so much for sharing such a special place. To me solo camping is camping without another person. Some might be near, but not attached to your camp. And camp can be anywhere and any style.
Another great video Wendy! You know we moved here to Duncan from Manitoba 22 years ago, and still haven't ventured over to Gabriola...isn't that awful. I've been itching to get out in my minivan, Jennifer Vaniston, and Gabriola doesn't look scary lol. I still can't believe we live here! It's sooo damn beautiful!!
Hi Shannon- Well I never got there until covid when we were restricted to travel within our health districts. This was my second trip but never saw the petroglyphs or the Malaspina gallery the first time. Would make a great day trip from Duncan.
Wendy I was so excited to see your new video! This was an amazing adventure and thank you for sharing it with us! I thought the rock formations looked like ocean waves! I agree with everyone else on solo camping..it's you alone in your own area and you are perfect at it! The Blue Lady is so very nice! Always LOVE your videos! 💙
Thanks Wendy, that was very interesting ! Love the petroglyphs and the sandstone formations..I'd love to have a van like that someday to travel in and explore different area, very comfortable. Whats the model ? Solo camping to me is taking time with nature to "reset" , a sort of forest bathing if you will.🙂
What a lovely little jaunt that was! Thanks for taking us along. I think solo camping is camping by yourself. You don't have to be in the middle of nowhere. Isn't glamping wonderful? Our Tofino is a bit more basic than your Blue Lady but we love her dearly. We are so very fortunate to have such an amazing way to travel and sleep.
thanks for taking us to another unique and beautiful place. Re: your question - what is solo camping? It's what you did in this video. It doesn't matter if you're in a van or a tent; if you backpack or bike or drive. It's doing it on your own, regardless of the folks around you or lack thereof!
Good morning from the Shuswap. I just discovered your channel and so happy to see our beautiful west coast. Now that we are retired, we hope to visit more often. I think solo camping is when your camping, driving, making plans alone, whether you are in back country or a campground. I just love your channel and sharing interesting places to visit.
Hello Brenda, Thanks so much for your comments and for watching. I hope you get to do some of that travelling . We have a great province and so much to see.
Thanks, Wendy, for another adventure into some more of the beauty of nature that surrounds us. I think solo camping is doing it alone - solo is singular - on your own - nobody with you. Stay safe and keep adventuring.
My opinion: if you’re taking care of yourself - and you have no one else to take care of - you’re solo camping. I don’t care if you’re in the middle of a packed campground. Otherwise, you’d more likely say boondocking for alone in solitude.
Solo camping to me is one person making a camp, whether it's backpacking on a trail or driving to a campground to pitch a tent or glamp in a van. Thanks for taking us along! Life's simplest pleasures really are the best.
Just found you recently and love it very much. To me solo camping is my me-time even though there are a few other campers around as long as they are not near me. I like setting up camp by myself and enjoy the peace, lounge in my hammock reading, cook whatever I like. It feels very humbling🙂
hI Wendy beautiful place with the formation , We have them on the East coast of Canada and northeastern ontario. aren't they fun to explore , Thanks' for showing us your side they are all so unique in their own way . I love exploring for Petroglyphs the one looked like a Lobster the other's a seal , fish and tribe people, Very interesting to see.thank you.Oh I love the campsite and the view at the look out is epic ( I am In Love with that place ).Love your van i need one . Thanks Wendy love , love loved this. Ontario Canada Yes your alone no one is with you at your site ,so your solo camping
Nice seeing the petroglyphs. I have a van too that I had someone build inside for me. Will be on a solo trip this summer and I enjoy going solo too. Thanks for sharing these unusual places.
You are amazing thank you nice to watch all your wonderful out door skills and for sharing , your adventures Loving see our country , from another senior and showing us how to live a still active lifestyle . Keep living tbe life an sharing ., A lot of us seniors ' live alone and not alble to get to see these beautiful parts of canada Iam 81 still driving . live in Ontario. But the walking not so good . love your adventures and the fact that you go solo , helps the rest of us , get out even if we live alone.
Does petroglyph carvings were pretty cool I watch a couple shows that hike to Old ruins and always have those petroglyphs I think it's pretty interesting how old they are you have a very nice setup in your van and always take us to some beautiful places see you on the next adventures 😊
Thanks for your sharing of this journey, Wendy. I have been to Gabriola twice and loved it both times...must return there. For me, solo camping is just that...camping by yourself regardless of where you end up staying. You can be a solo camper in a campground although my preference is to be a solo camper all by myself with no one else within may kilometres...
Thanks Bonnie- I am happy to hear you have been to the island. I was there once before but did not see the petroglyphs or the "big wave" . Both were awesome. I have also really enjoyed hearing all the opinions re solo camping.
A very interesting trip, just imagine how deep and clear those Petroglyphs were when carved thousands of years ago. Solo camping for me is easily divided in my mind. Camping alone in the wild places where I live, here in Wales is my 'Real' camping, but soon I'll load a tent and gear onto my little scooter, and ride 80 miles or so to a public campsite near the City of Chester. That's just somewhere to stay as a base while I visit the Roman ruins that remain in and around the City. Sleeping in a tent but in my mind it's only half camping...😊
Next time I head to the coast you're giving me ideas what to explore. You have a great van! I miss the light oak colour cabinets. Solo- means 1 person. Doesn't matter where u go, crowded camp spot or empty, you're still by yourself! You don't have someone to chat with, play a game with, cook a meal with, all these things r different when u r with someone else. You can't rely on someone else in the moment. You don't worry about anybody else's needs when you're solo. You do n go where u want to go, no collaboration as a solo. I use to go camping with another person, but now I go solo. 🍻
always delightful and inspiring, thanks for your beautiful contribution, Wendy! I live now in a dry cabin in Alaska which I love, feels like glamping every day😊...I still enjoy taking my Jeep camper conversion here and there too so just love "the company" of your channel and lovely soul... thanks so much! ( And by the way I loved traveling through your beautiful country to get here from the lower forty eight...)❤
Wonderful that I can come along with you on your journey- I think living in a dry cabin would have its challenges to for sure but often many advantages .
USB rechargeable pumps that fit right on top of my 5 gallon or 6 gallon water containers make all the difference in the world, running water, yay!! I honestly enjoy the simplicity of it and many people around here live in dry cabins, so there's somewhat of a support group in the community.😊
Looks like you had a fun adventure! I would define solo camping as camping by yourself, not with a partner or group. I’m a car/tent camper and don’t share my tent, ever 😂, but when I’m with my camera club we’re group camping. If I go alone, I call it solo. Can’t wait for your next adventure!
@@wendyoutdoors2230 Yep, it's a great group of folks. I did some binging on your channel last night. According to your yogurt video, it looks like you live near a photographer friend of mine, in the same area anyway. Lives over near Rathtrevor, near the Englishman River. Matter of fact, he was just photographing the wildflowers over on Hornby Island yesterday. What a small world. :)
Thanks for the tour those petroglyphs are cool, I live in Colorado near the for corners area and we have petroglyphs but painted and ours were used like road signs.
@@wendyoutdoors2230 Those are much more detailed than ours and they did not have steel chisels back then so they used rocks to carve those they should be better protected . If you follow the Col river most canyons are marked but with stick figures and simple designs telling you what is up the canyon once you know where to look they are easy to find.
