Today we go over what factory defect caused issues on John's STI! Help Support The Channel: www.patreon.co... Second Channel: / @thebenhardyshow Instagram: ben_hardypl Facebook: @benhardycar
So he’s only had for a month, got a kartboys shifter installed & couldn’t piece it together that it was having issues after that (poorly done) install, and blames it on the car? Makes the title of this vid VERY childish bro
I've had both cars. I have a 2012 STI bought brand new in 2012, then in 2017 I bought a focus RS brand new after I paid off my STI. My STI is still as reliable as the day I got it brand new, with 97k miles on the OD, 0 issues over 9 years. My Focus RS went through 1 motor and 1 transmission within 27k miles within 2 years of ownership. I ended up trading the RS in for a IS350 F sport. The Focus RS was a nightmare, it was a flash back to my DSM days with my 95 eclipse GSX and 91 eagle talon.
Warm ups and cool down can do wonders for the EJ motor!. glad to hear its going strong. How is the IS 350 compared to the STI? Have an STI and planing an IS 350 build. TAHNKS!!!
Yeah and I owned a Focus RS and they replaced the head gasket on recall. Then it started to leak oil really badly. So yeah, the Focus RS is totally reliable. Garbage.
What’s funny is how people blame a car when they go to mod and something fails. Like bro….whenever you mod any car there is a chance things won’t go your way. Add onto that the mod wasn’t installed properly. Lol come on.
For reference go watch the video of when John first got his STI….. might explain more why it’s broken. Absolutely beat on it and didn’t know how to drive manual
So basically we have no reason to not buy an STi? I mean it was a unlucky problem but rare. I still love my 2016 STi Sport tech without any issue as today
This is unintelligent. Your buddy has a problem with his choice of mechanics not his car. I have a 2019 STI with 30K and zero issues. And tooting your horn about how much better your Ford is, is ignorant. Remember your still driving a Ford.
I ran the cobb ots on 2 stis for 2 years with no problems. It's not just how you modify your car it's also how you take care of it. It's not one or the other it is both.
Exactly, the cars have an owner issue. They try and do all these big turbo, 700hp, stage 8 tunes etc, then when something blows or breaks it's the cars fault.
As a qualified mechanic of over 30 years i can tell you 100% that you can not compare the StI to the Ford Focus or any Subaru or Japanese vehicle. The Focus is a shit box, i have worked on them and they dont come close to a wrx specially an Sti, unfortunately your friend has no idea so better he buys another car and leave the Sti in better hands.
That 2018 STI blew up bc the 2015+ STI can't run a dp and intake without a fuel pump upgrade. The car will lean out and DAM starts to drop. That was user error.
To clear things up guys, the tire problem was noted after my first oil change and tire rotation, the shift cable was just something they found while they were working on it 👍🏼👍🏼
Your video title is not a fact but more like bashing Subaru plus the wheels being defective is barely a major reason why not to buy a Sti. It’s a amazing piece of machinery I own a 2021 and have no issues
One of the first things I did to my STI was get rid of the heavy stock 19” wheels and very stiff tires. I got forged 18x9.5 wheels which allow for taller sidewall tires. The STI feels way better now. It feels lighter on its feet and the ride is much smoother.
@@averagejohnlive Only if I make an extreme hard turn but that can be easily fixed by adjusting the wheel gap. I have videos of my setup on my channel.
I have a 2019 wrx not STI but I have the kartboy short throw on mine and a tomei installed on my car. I just ordered enkei ts6 wheels in 18x8.5 with 35 offset and they are now wrapped in continental extreme contact sport tires. The kartboy was hands down the best mod I can 100% agree with that.
Yes! Had the same problem with my RS. It's called tire conicity. Always need to measure new tires for equal circumference inflated and that each tire under inflation is equal circumference both outer edges and the center. Crazy but true for these AWD systems.
I have a 19 sti. Fantastic car. You have had the wrong people work on your car for you. Not Subarus issue Think the fords had head issues and im not sure they make that car anymore……. Buy a Subaru …
Sooo click bait, and he's already Fd up the car ?? Video is trash and like always let's do mods to the car and then complain about how the car drives 🤦🏾♂️
I never got to test how reliable my previous RS was. After the recall, and Garage still filled with white smoke months later I sold it. Just a few months ago, I see mountune offers a CDD HG. A pre-owned one MIGHT be worth it now. Check for PTU leaks.
I'm glad to see the Focus RS finally getting props for being the standard of reliability, the Toyota Camry of the hot hatch world. I wish this video was available before I bought my '20 STI series white. Tomorrow I'm going to the Ford dealer and trade it on a Focus RS...no wait. You guys are clowns.
I'm perplexed because I've heard and have read journalists reports that the STI essentially blows up within 10,000 miles, needing trans and entire engine replaced ... and then to hear that someone with a brain was able to figure out that is it was something mundane.
That’s smart the boxer engine is notorious for blowing head gaskets in certain circumstances but adding more power only puts more strain on the engine.
not worth it to spend more money on the intereior. Only mods downpipe accessport new airintake cobb with new fuel injectors and you should get 30-35 HP to the wheels
WAIT! I know a guy at work who has a Ford Focus RS and has nothing but problems with it. And still making payments on it for the next 2 or 1 year left. Ford is so bad at cars there not building cars anymore except for trucks, SUV’s, mustangs and some crossover there introducing. Fords RS and St’s will be like dodge neon Srt. Barely see them on the road anymore 🤷🏼♂️
Bought and broken like any other turbo 4 cylinder 🤙🏻 why brand hate? Also flat hate? Cmon atleast it didn’t cost over 100k for a horizontally firing engine 🤷🏻♂️
So.. this is a video about how dumb your dealer is and why you shouldn't modify your car if you don't know what you're doing. The REAL reasons to not buy an STI: - the EJ motor is garbage, is outdated, and cannot be reliably tuned regardless of what anyone says - they understeer like pigs and hate revs - nothing is galvanized, and there is very little aluminium so enjoy your rust - they are overpriced - seating position is 10ft in the air
Skip the slow boosting flat 4 and set your radar on Evo's. Had a 5Mt EvoRS for 7 years cammed, flashed, big TB and 285 NT05 all the way around, way funner and more hardcore than a new STi. For 3+ years (Sold bc it was whack and was never happy) '15 Sti w cobb stage 3, custom pro tune w 1000IDs for corn down the road, downpipe back, CF driveshaft and it was still to me lazy boost + steering is NOT THERE yet compared to an Evo. No matter what you do the car wont steer like an evo. Had to hard bush everything including motor mounts to get the car correct from showroom. And you HAVE to buy LCA's just to align the fuckin thing. The short geared 6 speed is whack 1st gear almost useless on anything modded, Evo MR guys would get rid of 6 speed to go 5MT better spacing. New cars are fluffed up w airbags and power butt warmers they are 3-400lbs too heavy. Plus the VAs rip firewalls off I had the Perrin support kit on mine just to play it safe....ohh yha and there is the cyl #3 misfire code that comes w the car bone stock w chocolate pistons and glass bearings lol.. no regerts selling the thing...what you have going for ya is they have king ding-a-ling resale value. It is true to do an Sti correct you have to spend Porsche 💰
Fanboy video! My dd is a 21 sti limited with tinted windows mud flaps and wheel spacers. Love it more then My fun car! My fun car is a 09 gtr . Massive money pit! My last dd was a fiesta st will buy one again!
