This is looking pretty slick from both hardware and software standpoints. I feel like AYANEO is nailing this smaller device class. I recently decided to start playing Witcher 3 on my old initial release Switch (have been playing on my Steam Deck), and I had forgotten just how small the Switch is in my hands. It makes the experience all the more “magical,” and given that a device like what you reviewed is significantly more powerful than my humble Switch, I find myself tempted to pull the trigger. Luckily for me (and my bank account), the price does not lend itself to an impulse purchase, but I’m keeping my eye on these more diminutive devices for when I do decide to add to my current collection. Man... I just got the GPD Win 4, and it's awesome... the biggest challenge is that it's a bit heavy, and my hands start to go to sleep after not very long. I feel this product would be much better in that regard. I feel a good grip would fix the issue though.
I'm so close to getting my first handheld PC and I think it will be the Win 4 too. The face buttons make a big difference for me, because of my hands size, which are not very small.
No no the GPD win 4 is so much better I have both devices. It does slip but my god that keyboard and mouse pad is game changing + it being landscape u did well to get that one
I ended up grabbing this from ebay today from your video. I felt like the Goldilocks and the 3 Bears because the ROG Ally ergonomics just do not fit my hand comfortably, the Air Pro with the 5.5 screen but was too small screenwise but comfortable to hold which lead me to finally the Air Plus which has the bigger screen (not as much as the Ally) but lightweight and comfortable to hold. Most of my gaming is remote play to my gaming rig from another room and some older ps2 jrpgs so this is perfect. thanks for the review
I pine for the future of 2054, when I will be very old but handheld PCs will actually have all day long battery life instead of dying after 2 or 3 hours of heavy use.
If this smallish handheld with a 6 inch screen can only run for an hour and a half with its 46.2 Wh battery on 15 Watts. I can only imagine how bad the 40 Wh battery would be on the ROG ALLY. Can anyone assuage this concern?? Or is that pretty much the reality of it...
Some folks are claiming that “studies show” most owners are using these on the couch or in bed and keep them plugged in, so battery life wouldn’t be an issue.
I really wished this was the product released as the "Aya neo air" last year. I would've loved this device, if it weren't for the fact that I already own a device. This came too late, and I'm hoping for a cheap small x86 device instead.
I think the AYN Loki looks better... If it would ever release! AYN already released one of the best android devices (Odin) and the developers are way more transparent and good with updates and communication compared to all other handheld makers.
@@rokko_hates_japan If the Loki series get a GPU update, I'd go for it. I can totally do Android over Windows cause I already have a Windows laptop. I think I won't pick the Air Plus cause their A B X Y buttons are TOOOOO small, just like on the Switch, which I hate. But I guess the brand will stick to that size for a while now.
As somebody who only periodically dips in to news of what's going on in the handheld gaming PC space it's getting rather confusing to follow what's best from AMD. We have the recent handhelds featuring a 680M GPU component but there's already some featuring the 780M on the horizon and to further complicate matters there's now today's announcement from AMD of the upcoming Z1 and Z1 Extreme APUs!
we need benchmarks graphs with all these devices on them. I can't even keep the cpu name straight, and each devices has different thermals so, a bar graph with every one of these consoles on it per game would be amazing
@@o0julek0o Yep, I understand the reasoning for it being the case. I'm just saying that it's somewhat confusing. Maybe I'll sit it out for a while longer until the market matures and settles down a little before deciding on which device to buy.
The issue that I have is that the controls are below each other, like the Switch has. It helps with keeping the design small, but this is not an ergonomic placement. It always giving me cramps when playing for a while.
Hi Phawx I always watch your videos thanks for content. I just received AYANEO Air Plus and wifi adapter worked once then disappeared i tried all the solutions for win 11 but same, i did factory reset worked once then gone forever, another factory reset no wifi but there is Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter but still no wifi. For now i will get usb wifi adpter that kind of suck. If you please know a better way to get it visible and working thank you
Nice video, just as the Aya Neo Air Plus with Ryzen 7000 was announced, as well as upgrade PCBs for the users who bought the device previously. Probably it's better to say "pre-announced", as not that many details were shared, but still.
Thanks for the video, I was wondering if I can get this at 539USD new with 16GB and 512GB? Would it be worth it now? Or should I wait for Ayaneo to release a 7840U 6" handheld? I considered the Steam Deck or the Ally but I am looking to play on the go and playing PC JRPGs, God of War, Devil May Cry 5, Armored Core (probably at 720P). Not sure 16GB RAM is enough too.
I'd love for devices like this to have power delivery for 65w, but only unlock when you use a special dock with external cooling, say pull a plastic cover off and expose the vapor chamber and the dock mates to this surface with its own heatsink and fan.
Thanks for the video, I also ordered one of these. How is your feeling about the analog sticks for aiming in fps games like half life? Much less precise than the bigger sticks in steamdeck? Or still ok?
I hope you have a good experience with it. I was between this device and the GPD Win 4. But I think the Air Plus have pretty small face buttons for my hands. Anyway, great choice!
Bigger sticks offer a little more precision, but any sticks will be fine for broad movements. Luckily, both this device and the Deck have gyro for fine movements
I mean these are good for what they can do. But idk why no one is working on clamp able battery packs or maybe even a re placeable battery. it should have one smaller so it can keep the device running on power saving mode while you can than put the fresh battery inside. It will make the device larger but much there is a huge benifit.
Ayaneo they have just announced the if you have ordered a 6800u model you can wait and get it upgraded to the 7000 series chip for no extra cost, I don't know if I want to wait for the upgrade or just get it asap with the 6800u
@@oo--7714 I couldn't find where they said it will be a 7840. If the "7000 series" is a 7736U this is actually the same as a 6800u. Including the product ID in the AMD site.

My Ayaneo air plus 6800U is running at 28 TDP in RDR2 1080p, middle settings up to 82-83° CPU temperature. Is this too hot or uncritical? This is while the charger is plugged in and the battery is 100%.
Hey Phawx, could please cover the fact that AYA is releasing way too many devices with lackluster to none after sale support? like screen/battery/fan/stick spare parts. People keep raving about these devices without covering the most important part of owning such a device which is longevity, Steam Deck will have a long lasting presence because of the solid support it gets in both software and hardware from both valve and community while support for these AYA devices will be lucky to even last past the first year when the company is so focused on the newer 4 devices that came out since. After sale support plays a huge part in this investment, I sure hope you would cover those in time, if AYA only supports their hardware for the 1st year then future proofing your device longevity buy stocking up on spare parts should factor into the price of the initial purchase which will make it noncompetitive.
It's been 3 months since my defective device arrived from the AN2 campaign and the "repaired" unit sent back has a new issue. They are now giving me the run around once again. I regret backing this company after seeing the video on the AN2. Save yourselves the headache and avoid Aya, GPD and OXP like the plague.
These devices do not need long term support. They are windows machines meaning it can function with just windows/driver updates. As far as defects, it happens with every device. The only issue is the wait. The length of warranty is the same as the steam deck and every person doesn't have a positive experience with the steam support team. You're asking someone to speak about things that vary too much per user. It's always interesting when someone speaks on a device that they don't own. I'm sure that companies ship out 8 variants of laptop for a certain hardware and nobody complains because they like the options which is the same thing you can get from these different devices. Why is this so bothersome to you? I can understand the guy with hardware support issues but someone that doesn't own the device... No
@@the-mad-umper7623 Bad Experience with Aya. OXP was actually good but sold it due to lack of spare parts after i got stung by Aya. GPD is actually much better and is supported for longer compared to Aya but sadly not by much and spare parts get harder and harder to source after 2 years from launch. I'm Interested to hear your experiences with OXP and GPD

That size screen in a clamshell. I miss the Vaio-P line. I want a modern thinner remake, even if that means a less powerful chip with no active cooling. Just planting idea seeds...
So this one has it all except the priceI guess, hall, oled screen, 6800u and small form factor, good battery size for a device like this. AYN Loki is looking more and more DOA.
I got the Steam Deck with the help of a friend's friend who helped me import it. The problem I see with the Aya Neo is multiple. 1. They release too many SKUs too quickly, so you don't know which to get, or whether to get it and wait a few months for a better SKU. 2. Their international availability isn't optimal. You can't just cater to Chinese and NA markets. 3. One of the best features of the SD is the 15W SoC, imo. Having a limited power budget and maximizing the performance in that budget is what makes the SD special for me.
4. You forgot about after sale support, they churn these out so fast you will be lucky to get screen/joystick/battery/fan spare parts after a year (that is if they provide them from day one in the first place)
is gpd win 4 way better tho? ayaneo air plus is just a bit bigger and better screen and not as thick, some feel gpd win 4 screen size makes u squint more with certain text and that the screen is too blue/not the best and also heavy thick cramping hands, altho it does have a landscape screen and the keyboard feature of course if u care for it, so i'd say depends what u prefer to say one is better over the other
but i do agree might as well wait to see 7000 series and see the performance difference before buying something that could now be less powerful especially spending around 1k
@@redscorpion9325 yeah it's what i heard, altho if u like me don't get hand pain from all kind of devices that are even worse ergonomically or weight being a bother/something u get used to, then u should be fine, it's probably more so a nitpick, altho the air plus weight being more distributed and having more of grips than the win 4 should of course feel more comfortable is all i was pointing out to him plus both have the same powerful chip for him to say one being better, I'd say which ever look design u like go for that
@@redscorpion9325 my eyes are currently on the limegreen aokzoe a2 since it also looks small like these devices and comes with the new more powerful 7840u chip and maybe the onexfly devices if they get a 7840u announcement, they both just look super sleek
Too many devices, most not even out yet and all overseas orders. New Deck strategy and Asus is going force a lot of exits. Some probably before even released.
Think of it this way all these people who buy them sell the old one on ebay. At some point the price ratio falls into a good spot. We just have to wait.
The Problem i see here is that this company pushing to much devices in too short amount of time. The also have forgotten the devices they made in 2021 . No go in my opinion. No quality of live updates for a device that is only 2 years old. It is a shame
@@ca9inec0mic58 that's not the case at all with the phones. My oneplus, xiaomi, vivo phones in the past had always had good support. This is more like the case for Iphone where they deliberately slow down old machines to make you buy new ones instead
@@Fldllse oh I am not talking about the support but rather their release cycles, they seem to be releasing phones every damn month, unlike Apple which release 3-4 phones every year
why are you not speaking about how GPD did the win 4 customers dirty with a crap screen on the retail units? The lag and show issues with 2D games.... and them blatenly claiming its only meant for tripple A games and that this is expected behaviour!
