yall forget that gary averaged 18 points on good efficiency literally a year ago, is one of the best spot-up shooters in the league, and is a ball-hawk and on-ball pest on defense. And most importantly, he fits the timeline of BBQ perfectly and is perfect for Darko's system. Getting him back for less than an MLE would be absolutely beautiful

No he didnt, he average 18 once in his career and it was the tampa season. The next season(the season youre refering to) he averaged 17 and his 3P% dropped to 36% on less attempts. Gary has been in the NBA for 7 season now and is regressing, hes shown no improvments in any other facit of his game. He can do one thing thats shoot spot up 3's. Gary is also not that great of a defender, he plays passing lanes and gambles for steals, but that gets him out of position sometimes.. hes listed as 6'5 but hes actually more like 6'2 which makes im a switchable match up, meaning its limited who he can guard and if he gets swtiched onwith a big hes getting cooked. Id argue Darko is movign away from gary considering his playing times was down to just 28 min in a season when everryone was injured and at one point GTJ was the primary option(where he was competely exposed for his limitations). The real value is just moving away from GTJ and not being pigeon hold into playing him as a starter every season like they have been....

His numbers don’t tell the fully story… he’s inconsistent and had so much opportunity to shine last year. Teams are not going to waste their time on someone that shows up half the time

@@OctoMatoe Yeah he had some 'inconsistency' last season but his shot creation is improving & is generally a reliable shooter; not to mention the defensive activity. I understand the economic aspect, he's still a young good player though

Movement offense still needs sg's to hunt shots. Gary struggled when he was challenged off the line and the defense let him attack the paint because they know Gary wasn't comfortable with floaters/midrange and at the rim Gary would go for dunks when he should be thinking layups.

JV was signed at quite a good number. Would have been interesting to have both Poeltl and JV playing for the Raptors. As for the GTJ why not if can find a way to fit him in cap-wise? You can always trade him later. Nothing going to happen till they move Brown.

Unfortunately not a lot of team need a 1 way SG. Especially one who struggles off the bench. His best bet is to find a team that he can get ample playing time and try to rebuild his value. Maybe he's a fit in Denver with the loss of KCP? Maybe the lakers or clippers for a 1 year cheap contract

@@JjNorf his defensive rating was 506 in the league. 341 for DEF WS. Gary is not a good defender. He does have quick handles to get steals sure. When he doesn't get the steal he's out of position. He's also been brutal as a POA defender and as a team defender he's meh.

Remember they tried to trade him for Jacob Poeltl in a three way trade but he was reportedly only worth a second round pick at the time. He also picked up his player option last year because no one was willing to give him 20 million+. I'm not sure if the Raptors have enough roster space for him either. The Pistons or Magic might make an offer though. Both teams need more shooting even with their new free agents.

The problem with GTJ is that he's the player the Raps and most other teams would want as a 6th or 7th man coming off the bench and sparking the offense while the starters are resting, but every time he starts from the bench his numbers tank off a cliff.

Being a straight up shooter makes a player fit the “Modern NBA”; it also makes the player a “cookie cutter”, “copy and paste”, full duplicate of pretty much any other player in basketball. Heck, even a player coming off high school can shoot. The arena Janitor can also shoot. Shooting 39% means that he reliably miss 61% of his shots. For a player who rarely rebounds, he really shouldn’t capitalize on just shooting. Everyone in the Modern NBA can score (it’s a foul even if you whiff your reach ins); not everyone can defend the perimeter well in the NBA level. Gary Jr. is a decent perimeter defender. He should market himself as such who just happens to be slightly above average 3 pt shooter.

I agree that GTJ for $10 million or so dollars is a bargain that the Raptors need to take. I was thinking that the Raptors needed to move off GTJ when the talk was $20 million. Let's see if the $10 million signing is for real. Also, like everyone, I am waiting to see what the trade for Bruce Brown is. There was rumor that something was lined up but, if that were the case, something would have happened by now. Lastly, I wonder if the Raptors are going to waive Chris Boucher to make room for a roster spot for the young talent?

Gary's agent could be waiting to see what offers may still be out there.... it's a long summer. If we can sign him it would be great. If he's not going to sign, then let's trade him and get something back. Gary has to realize there are a lot of guys coming up on him. Lots of discrepancies in the market. Raptors want Gary. Fans want him. He's in the age group and a long time Raptor. Guys in management, let's make it happen.

Ben it has less to do with age anymore man lol. Paul George is 35 and just got the max. An injured harden got 70 mil, acl boy Klay Thompson at 34 got a 3 year…steph curry is 36, lebron 40, etc All these guys haven’t even regressed and are still in there “late” primes. Nba is changing and all stars aren’t really falling off nowadays till there very late 30s

Gary is a perfect 6 man. it's too bad he plays better as a starter. I figured 3 years 15 -20 million a year was fare. He likes T.O, is a real professional guy from all ive heard, when he is hot he can pop off for 30 no problem. Keep him, but he needs to play consistent defense

its not shocking Ben, most of us weren't paying attention to this apron situation till now. The big guys got all the "monies" and everyone else is scrambling for scraps. Gary isn't really needed wit the Raptors, he isn't a long term asset for us. Plus the theory of sign a player and trade them later, really, the Raptors have to stop with the games. Just sign the players you want. To use an analogy, the last few years the Raptors have been a running back in football who has just got the ball and is surrounded by the defense. They can use their speed to get around, plow their way through or start dancing. Usually when a running back starts dancing they are caught and tackled. Raptors have been dancing wasting everyone's time. No to Gary. However I feel for Gary, he might end up in Charlotte, Washington or Detroit. On the flip side, struggling teams are now going to get quality players.

I don’t think you paid attention. There’s serious doubt he’ll get the MLE as per the report, eastern conference GM said as much. Raptors have about 11.5 to offer before they get in luxury tax

You need to consider the “home team tax” where the current team needs to overpay a bit to resign a player otherwise the player will feel slighted and go somewhere else even if it’s below market value ala Klay Thompson. Especially if it’s a better winning situation. Also Masai and Bobby clearly drafted Walter to replace either Brown or Trent. Brown is still on the team with very little trade rumours so i think it is becoming more and more clear by each day. Trent is most likely not coming back.

Trent's true shooting is 54.8% vs Grayson Allen's insane 67.9%. Trent's performance has also been stagnant for the past 4 years so I think the league believes he has hit his ceiling. Still tho for that price he's an easy grab

The new CBA changes the game. You top three players are going to be 60-65% of the cap leaving 12 players to share 35-40% of the remaining amount. The 20 million dollar player is going away.

Let me tell everyone why Gary can't get a deal. He has to play as a starter. This is because he is great when he is hot but useless when he isn't (which is most of the time), and you never know when he'll get hot. If you bring him off the bench, most of the time you will miss his hot streak; if you start him, you'll get his hot streak but also 20/25 minutes of useless. No one wants the useless time, therefore no one wants him to start, but he's no good off the bench. So he can't get a deal. When you have one skill, you'd better be able to produce that skill to order. We have better options than Gary even if they give him away with a bag of coffee.

Teams don’t want players that only Play on one side of the court. Grayson Allen is a dog. He’s got grit. Gary’s for swag. That’s it. He dresses great and knocks down 3’s. At least Bruce brown wears a cow boy hat and brings it on both ends

Nah I’m starting to question how many real raptors fans watch this channel, if u rly watch Gary play every night he plays terrible in more games than he plays well, when he’s playing well he’s just insane, but with that level of reliability there’s no chance he’s worth as much money as we were paying him, we payed him that expecting to develop him into something more consistent, but that window of opportunity is closing rapidly so ofc his price is going to go down

Honestly... why keep bruce or gary... we got too many guards... and now you picked up bruces 20 mill... trade him for milk and cookies at this point. Hes not worth 20. I wouldnt take him honeslty. But if you cant find someone willing with a 2nd round pick. Take it. Cause he does nothing for us but not shoot well and clog up space for the young guys.
