Pia Cramling was the highest rated woman year 1984. In this video, Pia Cramling (rated then 2250) played GM Viktor Korchnoi (2645) in 1982, she was just 19 years old then. Korchnoi has always been considered to be one of the world's strongest chess players who did not get the world title. This is the first part of a series of my mother's best games throughout her years. Hope you enjoy the analysis! :)

yea i like this idea too, it would be really good to be able to ask her about key moments in the game. if she doesnt want to be on camera (understandable as Im shy, or if she doesnt have time) just cut in small audio bites, what was going through her mind at that moment? what moves would she play differently today? i think it would help to lay/set the narrative of the game out a little better, focus on pivotol moments. chess can be exciting, its just that most people dont know when the important moments are if you dont highlight them. i remember when i used to play a lot that my adrenaline would go through the roof and my heart would race when i was up against a good opponent and i make the realiziation that i could win in a few moves. From the outside though its very hard to tell. i feel there is a hude advantage to having a good poker face in chess, you never want the opponent to know you have them on the ropes in case they try to look harder and find a way out of it. I honestly wonder how many great chess players are also good at poker.

@@deqwek99 It's not a given that children with parents from different countries become bilingual, although I do think that has more to do with the parents. My children are bilingual, but their mother has always been 100% consistent with speaking her native language with them, which also helps since her part of the family does not speak my language. As for English.... Scandinavians typically do that quite well, especially the younger generations. My main theory for that is that we don't dub our movies so if you want to enjoy Hollywood block busters you see them in English, unless they are targeted at people who are not expected to be literate yet (like small children).

The line the game didn't go into was the Riga variation - discredited after Capablanca routed Edward Lasker, although he got his won back in a game against young Sammy Reshevsky. White follows ...Bxh2+ with Kh1 Qh4; Rxe4+ xe4; Qd8+ Qxd8; Nxd8+ Kxd8; Kxh2 Be6, at which point White has bishop and knight for rook and two pawns. The ley is to follow with Be3 and not Nc3, after which c5 threatens to trap the light-squared bishop. The line originated in a correspondence game between teams from Berlin and Riga, Riga winning as Black after White didn't take a draw by repetition later in the game.

Computer can't be that much help you still have to understand why that is the best move and you can't come up with that the way AI brute forces it. After seeing how AI solves math problems it very clear it brute forcing it way more steps than any human would do the problem.
@MikkoRantalainen
@MikkoRantalainen 2 месяца назад
@@RedRocket4000 We don't yet know how AI actually evaluates the board states but it cannot definitely brute force the whole game. However, it's already clear that high quality AI can estimate the game state better than traditional chess software that simply tries to brute force the game. And correctly evaluating the board is the only thing you need for creating superhuman chess software because then you can simply try every legal move once (without any additional moves considered) and evaluate the board state after every move. The legal move resulting in best evaluation is the optimal move.
