This predates the twist. It's early enough, where some people would still have been dancing the jitterbug and the lindy hop. Jerry Lee Lewis and his songs were pretty edgy for the 1950's, so they were almost too scandalous for poodle skirt wearing girls to dance to, so "Whole Lotta Shakin'" and "Great Balls of Fire" were more likely listened to by "bad" girls, when they were originally released.

I believe you guys would love the movie, Great Balls of Fire. It's about the life and career of Jerry "Killer" Lee Louis, featuring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee. It shows how he learned to play the style of music he played, which I think you'll love, and his rocketing fame, and the contraversy of his marriage to his 14 year old 2nd cousin, and the downfall after it becomes public. And your right about the Elvis style sound to his music. Jerry Lee recorded his albums in the exact same studio as Elvis recorded his in. In Memphis Tenn. Which is why Lee choose it to record it there. The same promoters who got Elvis famous got Lee famous too. Most likely they used the same equipment.

@@67cuda38 That's easy enough to explain, Elvis was a good, honest, decent young man that had the image of a bad boy, while Jerry Lee was straight up a bad boy from the word go. Elvis didn't drink or smoke, like to goof off and just wanted to make his mama proud and provide for his parents. Jerry Lee was all about the party life, wanted the fame and fortune and all it could bring him and married his 13-year-old cousin, because he was raised in the South, in a time when girls got married at that age, or as he said, "My sister got married at 12." Jerry was a wild man. His piano was literally set on fire in one performance. He married his first cousin when she was 13 years old! He was in his late 20s. Another first cousin is Jimmy Swaggart. Preacher that sings and plays piano much like Jerry. He had his scandals too. Look him up. Fascinating careers for both of them. Big personalities.

I love it!!!! We grew up down the road from each other & he was the most carefree person. He did his own thing & didn't care who liked it or didn't..I could tell you many stories about him..Jerry Lee & Elvis hung out together at Sun Records & Elvis said his biggest influence was Jerry Lee Lewis...& Chuck Berry..he's still never been inducted into the country music hall of Fame either. He's about the only living legend that's not been inducted...his cousin Mickey Gilley could play almost as good & he's got a couple of duets with him that's good!! Thanks so much for playing Jerry Lee Lewis..

Jerry Lee Lewis and his cousin, Rev. Jimmy Swaggert, were both taught piano by the same Louisiana piano teacher. The next generation of this family was country star Mickey Gilley. You need to see the video of Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Swaggert, Mickey Gilly, and Charlie Rich play together.

Jerry Lewis is a powerhouse. Pioneer of Rock and Roll. Him, Elvis and Johnny Cash along with Carl Perkins were all signed to Sun Records in Memphis at the same time. You should see a live video of him performing. Wont be disappointed.

There's a reason why they called him "killer" Jerry Lee Lewis was an electric dynamo on the piano. As someone said you got to find footage of him playing live because he used to jump up, dancing, and going WILD on the keys. Even in his old age he could still light a fire.

Saw Jerry Lee in around 2000, at a Tupelo, Mississippi outdoor festival. He was so very let’s say affected by an un known substance that he wobbled to the piano, but the minute he looked at those keys something came to him…he took over and played Whole Lotta Shakin as if he was cold stone sober. And he played that piano for about 45 minutes, and never missed a note! It was amazing!

You should see Jerry Lee do this LIVE! What a treat to see. I saw him when he was in his 70’s at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth, TX…..still going strong on that piano! Now think about this….rock and roll was such a new genre, started around 1956. Think about the top hit like this one….the music was just infectious! It made you want to move…to dance….and sing along. The music was so good and so much fun….it could only get better as time went on! Rock and Roll is here to stay! It started as black music performed by white prople. Then Chuck Berry….and Little Richard…made it all okay…everyone could get in on it! Peace, love and brotherhood…paved the way for hippie philosophies and Civil Rights, etc.

Hi guys. Jerry Lee and Elvis were both big stars of the day. Actually Jerry Lee was a slightly more established star already when Elvis was getting started. There is a stage show called Million Dollar Quartet. It is about one day when Sun Records had 4 of it's biggest stars all showed up at the office at the same time. The label owner told them there was an empty studio and they should jam a little. Those 4 guys were Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. Carl was a big time guitar player and performer who was the original Blue Suede Shoes singer. Also there is a famous country performer named Mickey Gilley and a big televangelist named Jimmy Swaggart. These two and Jerry Lee were accomplished piano players and were actually cousins who took different paths in life.

Elvis started professionally at Sun in 1954, Jerry Lee not until 1956, after Elvis had had numerous #1 hits at RCA.
