@zeronokou They're pushing that garbage for the sole purpose of controlling content. Gaming is dead for me, and I am so fed up with these companies pushing updates on customers! U$ 700 for a crippled system, which will be always be connected so that Sony can push their stupid patches and censor whatever they want. Why would I spend money on something that is not really mine? They can keep their garbage for themselves!
@keicchiryuu4485 if xbox goes full gen in 2026, xbox might actually lead. 1. In 2026 you will get more value with new gen xbox than a ps5 pro. Both price and power 2. Xbox jump the gun in next gen like the 360. The last time they dominated a gen.
@mathewm3073 you're tripping. Sony is clearly testing the market with this. They are the behemoth and can dictate market pricing for consoles since they are so far ahead of Xbox. If idiots decide to support this 700+ dollar console, then best believe the base next gen will start at 700, maybe even more.
Because they are selling a premium product and want to make a profit off of each sale unlike their standard version??? Who would of thought that businesses are in the business of making money 😱 It's not like they are hard locking games to the pro and you 'need' to buy it.
US price does not include tax as far as I know. EU price does. Still won't be right though even after tax in US, that exchange rate is nowhere near right, EU and Japan getting screwed.
If people are suddenly going to rush to get a Series X, because the PS5 Pro is so expensive, can anyone explain why the current PS5 is outselling Xbox Series massively given the Series S is way cheaper than any PS5? 🤔
If people fall for this then I don't want to hear anyone complaining about the PS6 costing $899 with no disc drive, no controller in the box and a 500gb SSD.
The biggest win for xbox is that, ps5 pro will be in the market for 3 to 4 years even after the arrive of next gen xbox that will leave a window open for a few years with xbox alone the ps5 pro doesnt have the enticing hardware that will make someone run to the store, if xbox has in store a rdna5 zen 6 and gddr7 even for the same price gamers will run to the store, price needs to justify the performance, and its not the case with ps5 pro this is the biggest win for xbox.
Doubtful. The PS4 Pro was discontinued well before the PS4. Like its predecessor, the PS5 Pro is never expected to achieve more than a fraction of the PS5's sales. Sony has no obligation to delay a PS6 just because the PS5 Pro exists. Recall that they committed to the final design of the PS5 well ahead of Microsoft finalizing the Series X. Developers had PS5 dev kits many moths ahead of those for the Series models. Sony was still selling a LOT of PS4s but was moving on regardless. Microsoft had reason to wait as they wanted the final RDNA 2 feature set for ease of porting between Xbox and PC. Sony didn't care about that at the time and was content to go ahead with what could be called RDNA 1.5. This appears to be one of the reasons the full feature set of the Series X has been underutilized, especially in multi-platform titles. The devs focus on the PS5 and then port as much of that over as they can without major changes. This means completely ignoring some hardware features. If there wasn't such a big disparity in installed bases, it might be different but as it is, the devs just don't have much reason to care.
Except Xbox hardware sales are dismal and the installed base a small fraction of the PS5. This is why Microsoft is giving up on trying to promote the platform with exclusive titles. There's just not enough sales to be had in putting a game expected to be a major hit on a minority platform. Things would be different if they gotten their in-house game development in order within a year of the Series launch but to the frustration of everyone but Sony, they didn't. Meanwhile, they have a mammoth investment in acquiring developers and IP, and those big budget games need to go where the greatest sales potential lies. Meanwhile, Sony isn't going to hold still. They've already made it clear the PS6 is in the design phase. It is unlikely an entirely new Xbox generation is going to launch before 2026. Microsoft would likely have a year at most of claiming the performance lead. That is, if they go that route at all. It hasn't worked out favorably for them at all in this generation and they may look at Nintendo and Valve for inspiration on seeking a different direction.
Sony revenue may increase, but I can’t imagine that the margins are going to be good. Xbox has been gifted a golden opportunity to launch their next console in 2026!
@@eddiegarcia1560 2026 is more realistic and opportunistic, imho. They NEED a flagship titles like Gears of War and Fable. They also need to ensure they are designed for long term efficiencies to see cost reduced as the next gen proceeds.
No, the profit margins are gonna be insane. Was reading a article last week about how Sony is obsessed this gen with orifit margins and how the pro was developed in mond to make as much as possible. That is why its discless, same design and stand sales separately.
@@scynapz already have stand and disc drive. 700 is no big deal. 4k 60 with gran turismo doing 8k 120. And 2 tb. You also gotta remember Microsoft sold a SpongeBob series x for 700 and all you got was more storage. The pro is much better for the same price
Yeah that price is absolute insane. Especially here in Europe. 800 euro, and 950 with the Disc Drive and vertical stand included... Sony thinks they already won the generations. Not with these prices !
The "you cannot match the performance per cost" argument is such a load of trash. You'd make back the extra cost in PC setup just on cheaper games and no subscription fees.
@@ralfiejr34 You actually have no idea what you're talking about. Building a PC for $2,000 will save you money in the long run, but probably start saving you money within a year or 2, after that it's all savings even when upgrading components... And on TOP of it you'll be getting far better performance on every metric. Edit: that's a higher price PC that will still save you money down the line... But a PC for $1,000 will outperform the PS5 pro AND save you money sooner.
How have they handed Xbox a win by releasing a Pro model no-one is forced to buy, given the base PS5 will now become the cheaper entry-point? Kind of like, you know... the Series S versus the X on that side? 🤔
Not with Xbox not having any games to keep people on the platform let alone no one buying their games due to gamepass and they're idiotic play anywhere push that renders their software and hardware redundant to the point they're having to sell their games on other platforms.

I don't get why people are acting like Sony are now only going to sell the PS5 Pro and discontinue the base PS5? The base will still exist to go against the Series S, just as it has already done. And yet so far, PS5 is selling 2.7 consoles to every 1 XBS 🧐
Here in Canada its 1200 if you want you're PS5 pro fully loaded, so with the stand and disc drive. That is fucking INSANE for ANY console. At this point just build a pc with used parts and you'll even save money in the long run, hell even the short run lol you dont have to pay for online gaming first of all and you have access to crazy steam sales. Free games on Epic launcher, you can do whatever you want with your pc, believe it or not, it even has a web browser, id like to see the ps5 do this lmao
The PS5 already has Dolby Atmos. The PS5 will also get DV when the Pro is released with it. We saw the same with HDR back when the PS4 Pro was released. The PS4 was also patches with HDR.
This is a win for Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch 2 will probably be announced this month and will probably only cost 400. It is a brand new generations console that costs 400 VS a pro version of a 4 year old console that will cost 700 that will only be a small improvement compared to original version and it will cost 800 if you want a disc drive
It's neither here nor there. If the Switch II is comparable to the PS5, that would be more than most are expecting. Nintendo has no interest in playing the hardware supremacy game. It's never been a winning strategy for them. The Switch II will be as good as Nvidia can offer for the price point Nintendo targets. How it compares to purely stationary consoles at higher price points just isn't much of a concern for them. They're looking to give the immense Switch installed base a reason to upgrade rather than trying to win over potential PS5 Pro buyers. People affluent enough to find the Pro price acceptable likely won't blink at the additional cost of owning multiple consoles if the software is there to compel the purchase.
@@epobirs I mean more that it is a small advantage for Nintendo that the other consoles are so expensive compared to the Switch 2. For example, parents will definitely choose the Switch 2 when they see those prices. And it will be a big advantage when the PS6 comes out, it will probably cost something like 1000 and remember most consoles have a life cycle of 5 or 6 years, usually 5, the switch is just a very big exception with this, the PS5 would probably only have about 2 years before the PS6 comes out. Nintendo should indeed focus on their own customers, but this is a great advantage in the future
Seriously. We've already seen Xbox very recently get a boon from Sony raising PS5 prices in Japan. With the Pro dropping this high, all of a sudden the Xbox Series X and S look a lot better in comparison. It's hilarious because this is a big reason Sony grew to dominance last generation. Undercutting Xbox by not even that much. If Xbox is really dropping next gen in 2026 as rumored and as long as they keep the prices about the same as this gen launched then they're golden. Sony has gotten way too complacent on their high horse.
Its insulting. Thats why most are pissed. They're openly laughing at our faces with this price and we cant do shit about it except hope nobody buys into it and they're forced to reduce the price. But from what ive seen of the Sony fanbase... they'll find a way to say its worth it.
$700 Would be easier to stomach if it included a disc drive and stand. This is the digital only console for $700 when the original PS5 digital released a few years ago for $400. You already know there will be a discount on Xbox consoles this fall.
There's already a discount on the Xbox side... it's called "the Series S" £250 here for the 512GB, or £300 for 1TB PS5 (base model) is £390 🌐 or £480 💿 Yet even with Series S existing, PS5 is outselling XBS by 2.7 to 1
Im still interested on the next xbox that is getting revealed by the end of the year and how much it will cost as £820 for a disc ps5p and stand is insane
@@bshn10They didn't gave up, they just boost their own ecosystem to made money out of every part of it. To the point that having a console is now a choice and not a necessity, this makes more income to Xbox.
Installed base is critical. The most popular game is never going to exceed that. Realistically, the most popular games don't reach even half the installed base. A game that is considered successful is reaches about 5% of the installed base, which is why reaching the 20 million installed base mark has long been considered a critical milestone. At the point, a game that reaches 5% of the market is a million seller. With an installed base of the current Xbox generation only numbering about 20% of the PS5, the most successful Xbox exclusive can only sell a fraction of what a major PS5 hit can move. Thus why the phrase 'Xbox exclusive' is becoming obsolete. Without a substantial installed base, Microsoft's Xbox brand should be considered a multi-platform game publisher with a small sideline in its own hardware. Microsoft badly lost the plot in giving consumers a reason to buy an Xbox. It is only just now getting enough in-house development to have a decent range of exclusives, just as it is turning away from the very idea of exclusives.

They point were this might be an xbox win flew over my head, i think? I didn't register it. Also, i wouldn't be shocked if the pro sells out at release. From a mixture of Playstation global popularity and scalpers.
How much does a second hand PS5 go for these days? You’re probably looking at 300 bucks depending on the condition and how long you’ve had it. Just ain’t worth it. Hold on to the PS5. We’re looking at another 3 years at least for the PS6. Those 3 years will go quick.
I've said this before, so I'm reposting. Sony lost their damn minds. My official take. That price point is obscene. And the Japanese price is an actual slap in the face of Japanese consumers. 79,980 yen for a PS5 and 119,980 yen for a pro, when before the price hikes the PS5 was 59,980 Yen for the digital and 66,980 for normal disc version.
Nice to see PS now capable of matching features Xbox offered since the start. With PS Enhanced & Xbox Optimised. Devs will now use/push better in features. NGL though, the price sucks. It’s concerning for console industry future. As at this price, more will be pushed into PC. Which adds extra constraints onto console market. Scary how expensive this hobby will be by next gen. Hard for consumers in this economy to justify this price for just a console. Sounds like the days of the expensive PS3, which Sony moved quickly away from.
I paid a little more than 699 for a hold over graphics card in my PC. That’s just the card, not the mobo, CPU, ram, IO, PSU, case, etc etc. And it’s just to get me by while I build the funds in the war chest, Plus I had to build it. Install the OS and all the non sense included with that. Endlessly tweak stuff. Deal with driver issues. Run burn in and wonder if I could have applied the thermal compound better. Building my dream PC on PC part picker and looking at a 5000+ dollar total and wondering “How can I remove 4300 dollars of this can get alleged PS5 Pro performance?” seems like a daunting task. Used parts if your patient? Well you can get a used PS5 Pro if you’re patient so that’s not a valid argument. I dunno, even as someone that can’t afford to leave PC gaming because of my Steam collection I can see the value in consoles. And as someone that is a geek and loves specs I can see the appeal of the Pro version.
I'm tired of people bringing up the PC. I'm a PC gamer, so stop saying you can build a cheaper PC OR a PC that may cost a little more than a PS5 PRO because you can't. A good GPU will cost more than a PS5 PRO to get the same performance. I built a gaming PC for $835.00, but I had to reuse my GPU, Power supply, and SSD storage. Plus, cookie-cutter PC, just about any PC company out there uses cheap parts to hit those low prices that still cost more than a PS5 PRO. Yes, you can buy used parts with no warranty or hope luck is on your side when you buy a GPU that was not overclocked and on its deathbed, but is that what you really want to spend your money on? To be honest, you don't have to buy a Pro if you have a PS5, and I don't see how this is good for Xbox because their power is not the problem, but their games keep running at 30fps. Brad, you have lost the plot.
I’m tired of people bringing up PC period. I swear no one can even mention a console without someone bringing up gaming PCs. We get it, they look superior but not everybody wants one🙄
Lol dude you are completely wrong. A $1,500 PC will outperform this easily, and on top of that you don't have to pay to use the Internet and games are cheaper... You spend just a little more up front but get better performance AND save money within a year.
@@Nonx47 when did I say that $1,500.00 PC is the same as the Pro? I never did, so please stop using my words to prove a point that makes you feel warm inside. So, let's talk about the PC. What type of CPU are you running? Nowadays, they are not a bad price. GPU, RAM, and Storage cost the most. If you go with anything lower than a 4070, FPS will not be great if you run things high and use raytracing. Whereas the Pro will give you 60FPS with raytracing. Also, you don't have to deal with software and hardware conflicts or any other problems you run into with the PC. I don't know about saving money with PC because they are always coming out with new hardware leaving the stuff you just bought a year ago outdated.
@@markacamacho lmao I brought up the price of a the PC to show what you'd need for a good system for a long time that will destroy the PS5 pro in performance and price. Stay out of these conversations if you don't know what you're talking about. The cost is 100% less when you have a PC, and a PC for $1,500 won't have old ass zen 2 CPU chips inside like the PS5 pro. It'll best the PS5 pro in nearly every metric, and if it loses in the most minor of things it won't be noticeable. This is just a stupid conversation when talking to someone who thinks a console will outperform a PC in performance and price... You don't need to justify your brand man, just learn.
Even for it being just for enthusiasts or people who can afford to spend £700 i still think its expensive, I thought it was going to be around £650-700 but it becomes a problem when thats without a freaking disc drive because at least half or a bit less than half have physical collections so they'd have to make another £80 purchase to play their games (They may be two options as they did for a Slim but currently there's only the digital Pro) and thats a likely if you're coming from the base PS5 or PS4-PS4 Pro. Even if you've brought the Slim you can't sell it incomplete without the disc drive so you'd have to buy another drive anyway. The stand i can agree that is optional/a preference but that will cost you an additional £30 so the total for some people is £810 and you haven't brought a £70 game to test the new hardware i.e Phantom Balde 0 or GTA6 whenever they come out. And a further issue the price of the PS5 Pro creates is the PS6 is coming in at a price of £850 as the PS4 Pro was £350 and the next console after PS5 was £450 now its £480 due to inflation so there's no way the PS6 is not coming in less than £800+ and that's crazy!!! And what's the cause of this is one the Scalpers highlighting what people are willing to pay, two Sony's own hubris and three the fact Xbox are no longer a competitor, and Nintendo know they can't get away with a price that matches £700. The OLED is £300 the successor is either £370-400 no way the could go beyond that.
PS3 60GB launched at $599 in 2006. Adjusted for inflation, that amounts to ~$1000 today. So even if we add another $100 for an optical drive and a vertical stand for a total of $799 for the new PS5 pro, it's still "cheaper" than the PS3 was almost 20 years ago. 🤷
Funny how you easily rounded $936.12 to ~$1,000. This is still ridiculous. The $600 price back then in 2006 was ridiculous then as this is now. Build a PC and save even more money, you won't have to pay to use the internet you already paid for and games are cheaper... And you get much better performance.
@@Nonx47 Actually I used an average inflation rate of 3% annually and rounded down from $1,020. As for the PC comparison. While the same performance level at same noise level (assuming PS5p is comparable to PS5), and the same footprint will not be easy, doable maybe, but not easy. There are other reasons to build/buy a PC instead. But there are also reasons to prefer consoles. Apart from the console-exclusive games that won't come to PC until several years after launch, if at all. HDR for example is still a bit of a nightmare on a daily driving PC with Windows. VRR used to be a good reason to stick with PC gaming, but now that the current consoles and most TVs support it as well. That's another argument for PC-gaming out the window.

XBOX SERIES X 2TB Special Edition. $599.99 + Tax PlayStation 5 Pro All Digital. $699.99 + Tax....PS5 DISC DRIVE....$79.99 + Tax. We'll just see which system sells more considering the price jump on Playstation might give Microsoft an edge over Sony.
I mean the PS5 Pro price _might_ tempt some people to go for a Series X, sure, but two issues I see: 1 - the regular PS5 editions will still be sold, so it's still competing against those 2 - the Series S is already cheaper than PS5, and yet that hasn't achieved dominance for Xbox yet. And it accounts for about two-thirds of all current Series consoles, so... will the X suddenly increase in sales? 🤷🏻♂️
Slightly higher in other countries??? So ps5 pro in Canada is set to launch at $959.99 before our ridiculous taxes. The original ps5 was $629 at launch. With the exchange program you will get half of that back if you’re lucky. So we add $959.99 plus the $300 loss on the original console. Brings you up $1250 (ball park) spent on owning a PS5. Now you add $108 for the external drive you’re at $1350 spent on owning a ps5 pro. Where is the justice on that? Now I’m not against paying for a console if it’s an actual upgrade but from what they showed this is marginal at the very best.
A $1400 PC will get you an AMD 7800 xt with 16 gigs of VRAM a Ryzen 7 7700x CPU that clocks between 4.5 and 5.4 GHz, 32 gigs of Ram and an SSD... so yes that will beat anything that remains of "this gen" plus anything "next gen" as well which will equal to about 10 years.
That is true but the difference between that price and a gpu is that you can basically upgrade when you want and not be bound by a specific eco system. Also, online is free. So its more to it on pc.
@@mrdappernature8861 yes you can upgrade when you want but you are going to always pay over $700 for that new gpu if you’re getting the good stuff. I have a gaming pc as well and with that free online play comes hackers and an all around worse experience.
They had to zoom in to show the upgrade. Xbox should really cut the price of the xbox series x to 399.99 for the rest of the year😂 and finally xbox sx will get more support now. Ps5 pro is gonna suck higher resolution and lower frames on new games watch
I have spent twice as much for a plane ticket, and that's a one-time vacation purchase, so $700 for the next 4 years of use. I don't see the big deal maybe it's just me
They know people will pay it because the scalpers charged that 4 years ago which with inflation $700-$800 4 years ago is more like $900 now…and people paid it, so they’re actually undercharging by $100 or so IMO. It just depends how many of these units are produced. I’m sure it’ll be hard to get your hands on one for a while.
The xbox series x 2tb is 649 euro in Germany. I have the xbox series x but is basically 4 years old and currently Amex in Germany has 100 euro cashback when you spend 500 euro or more in the Microsoft store here. I could get 300 euro for my current console, so for only 249 euro I am considering doing it, the 2TB stick is 224 euro
The biggest problem with the PlayStation 5 Pro is it has been made for games that all really exists and plays have played and most of the game are just remasters of old games that we have all played before with slightly better graphics is it all just about graphics nowadays what about putting effort in making lots of new games titles or what the point of new games consoles at all if sony are charging $700 for a console how much are the games going to be in the next couple of years.
No, it's not made for games that were already made. You think the upcoming games are going to run like on the base PS5? If this is capable of 4K 60fps fidelity for the current games, how bad would the upcoming games have to look on the base Xbox and PS5... 😂 This doesn't make any sense.
Look guys, you don't have to buy this, you can simply keep playing on the regular PS5. I will be buying this to enjoy the higher framerates and resolutions. This way everyone is happy. This is the same way the PC market runs. If you want higher framerates you have to pay more money. Ya'll expect these consoles to be more powerful without coating more, which would be nice, but doesn't make financial sense. This is clearly aimed at the higher end crowd just like nvidia makes 4080's and 4090's on the PC side.
I bought a gaming laptop on sale for $850 that plays all triple A games with no trouble. And there is no monthly fee to play network games. Oh and I can play a lot of the Xbox Premium cloud games on my iPad with a controller decently.
and some studio would release a game that will make the performance mode run in 30fps possible to bad optimization too many bells and whistle even pro can handle or both unless theres a clause in the contract that they need produce minimum 60fps on performancfe mode , that loophole will bite back at them
600 for a 2TB series x? That's even worse than the PS5 Pro. $100 more for twice the performance? It's a no brainer. PS5 Pro all the way. Now, I do care about the disc drive, but sadly it seems most people don't since most game sales are now digital.
Here's the deal, in the 90s Nintendo go dogged for not using disks because they could hold more data than cartridges, but cartridges loaded up faster and were more reliable, as they didn't get scratched up or need an electric motor to spin them. The landscape has completely changed. Physical media is still in extremely strong demand, but disks have been obsolete for 10 years. You can store a terabyte on your pinky fingernail. The PS5 should have NEVER had a disk drive, it's time to switch back over to cartridges for physical media and this PS5 pro not even including a way to play physical games is absolutely wild for $700.
Cartridges could get dust in them, and any liquid spill could damage the internal board compared to a CD. Not to mention some had batteries to allow save-games to be held, which could go flat or corrode. If there ever was a return to physical in the way, they'd go with microSD, not their own format as it would be way cheaper
