It took me a long while to figure it out, but I finally realize something major: Arin doesn't even know what he likes.

How does he complain about the ice cavern making him slide around when he wears the stupid hover slippers the rest of the god damn game.

"This game is easy" Proceeds to use a walkthrough and die stupidly several times while blaming the game

"I like Majora's Mask a lot more than I like this game" _Quit Majora's Mask because he didn't want to pick up any upgrades and wasn't good enough to progress any further_

It's comforting to see Dan get progressively more passive aggressive to Arin being stupid

I just don't see how it's possible to be *this* inept at Ocarina of Time, especially after his overblown "analysis" video.

This was the playthrough that really steered me off of Game Grumps. It was really off-putting to hear unfounded criticisms in nearly every episode simply because Arin refuses to actually understand the game mechanics. He wants instant gratification for the way he plays and when that doesn't happen it suddenly becomes a fault of the game, rather than his play style.

Thank you for including all the times Dan's patience ran out, those were some of the funniest moments. Also this bat montage is sending my sides into orbit.

I think being bad at a game doesnt exclude you from being entertaining. You can be awful and still find an entertaining way to present the video. Yelling at the game for your own failures and making arguments that are objectively wrong is not one of those ways

that sequelitis really did an unfair comparison with gameplay LttP was basically the height of the 2d adventure game where the gameplay was perfected by that point OoT was experimental & new with the 3d perspective. they had to try & come up with entirely new ways to do combat

Arin loves Link to the Past so much that he keeps killing Link in an attempt to make that particular timeline a reality.

Whenever someone cites the Zelda Sequelitis as a credible video, just show this.

You know you are bad at this game if Lucajins blind play through of Oot went smoother than a play through with someone who's played through the game a couple times in the past.

Arin continually just bashes his head into a wall and is mad when it doesn't work. The Dark Link fight exposes the hell out of him. 1) He never uses his shield unless it's literally required, but Dark Link does and it's stonewalling him. According to Arin, it's bullshit. 2) He skims a walkthrough but doesn't do it right, and then gets mad that the walkthrough is 'wrong'. 3) Every time he dies, he charges right back to the fight with almost no preparation. More hearts? Fairies? Nah. 4) Once he figures out the cheese strat, suddenly he's in a good mood again, shocker. God forbid something require him to alter his approach or think critically.

My least favorite part about this playthrough wasn't that Arin was bad at the game - it was the apparent strain that Arin put on his relationship with Dan in this series. Arin was soooo negative and bitchy the entire time, and you can hear Dan struggling to keep the feel of the show light and friendly - and Arin just couldn't stop being insufferable and remember he's doing a comedy show. It's super evident in the water temple - Dan's super uncomfortable with how shitty Arin seems to be acting. I dunno, weird observation but it really bugged me through the course of this series.

Even dan is just like "Come on dude."

The only thing worse and more painful than Arin's sheer incompetence at a game he talked so much shit about like it wasn't his fault is the amount of people defending him in the comment section.

during the video some comments are made about whether the game holds up and if Arin's criticism holds water. After watching this video that debate no longer means anything to me. OOT does show it's age, but people are not mad that Arin is pointing that out, they're mad because if you had never played OOT and then saw this play through you'd think OOT was a broken piece of garbage. Not only is this not accurate, it's completely disingenuous. Arin's lack of skill and borderline infantile attention span are not the game's fault.

I do think people don't like how Arin talks about it because he's such a hypocrite about it and misses things that are incredibly obvious, and really doesn't do well at all in even simple things in here. LOL the epic demon music when the Hover Boots appear.

What I've learned from watching this is that Arin refuses to adapt to any situation. At all. If his strategy of 2D Zelda sword swinging isn't working, then that must mean you have to wait and not find a faster, riskier, overall better way to fight it. I like him more than most people, but Arin's stubborn and jaded personality is what prevents him from enjoying this game. I wish he'd just admit he hates the legacy behind it and stop blaming the game for his own incompetence.

I'm starting to notice that whenever Arin's getting mad at something, he usually forgot a hint because he was talking over it making innuendos.

"What's the song of time?" What's the most useful three notes in Majora's Mask, your 'favorite' modern Zelda game? How do you not know this?

Of course, because Arin has the patience of a 10-year-old on a sugar rush, any game that makes you wait for more than 2 seconds to do something is a bad game -_- Also, Gerudo Fortress was probably the most excruciating part in any GG series ever. Arin's ineptitude plus his forced fake raging was so hard to watch

At least Arin was able to finish OoT without Ragequitting like he did to his "favorite modern Zelda", Majora's Mask.

Every time the defense force says "he has ADHD" to excuse his absolutely shitty skills at this game I want to punch my monitor. I have ADHD and these people have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Arin is a much bigger threat then DSP. Why? He has a massive fanbase and they will believe what shit spews from his mouth. With DSP himself, his opinion on everything is a complete joke and he already has a bad rep. I can't believe Arin forgot he had the bombs and he couldn't count the total of his rupee's. Just terrible.

As someone who doesn't watch GG at all, it occurs to me watching this video just how horribly unrelatable Arin is. The whole point of a casual playthrough like this it's supposed to feel like a bunch of friends getting together to play video games (and Dan seems to get this) but it's almost as if Arin does everything in his power to deliberately alienate his viewers by either being weird or just plain snobby.

If Arin doesn't like OoT combat then why does he like Dark Souls?

I love it when Dan is being savage. Like... You have to be a special kind of terrible to annoy Dan.

I have to be honest I love Danny but one of my biggest gripes with new game grumps is that Dan doesn't play video games anymore even when there is a 2 player option Jon and Arin would switch back and forth between a single player game and it was hilarious They even did a small compilation of every time Jon took the control of sonic 06 Those moments are what I missed from the Jon era

I can only imagine how painful this was to make. My condolences.

I love the game grumps but it always pisses me off when arin refuses to read instructions then blames the fact he doesnt know what to do on the game.

I think I'm one of the fans that genuinely doesn't like Arin's anger, I think raging at a video game being hard when playing them for a RU-vid channel for your job speaks really poorly of him as a person. I could easily sit through this playthrough if Arin was honest about not paying attention or remembering stuff but he comes off as shockingly arrogant when he screams through it.

Moral of the Story: Don't try and make a video trying to be critically analytical about a masterclass game....If there is empirical evidence that you are just flat out wrong and terrible at games.

The things that Arin claims that he wants in an ideal video-game, are things that he wouldn't actually want in games. He struggled so much in Botw and complained about it, despite the fact it's technically his ideal game.

A common defense I see against Arin's pure stupidity and ineptitude at these games is that he has ADHD, which I 100% think is a cop out. I've had ADHD my entire life, it doesn't make it so you can not focus or retain information, it means that you have difficulty focusing on things that don't interest you so if Arin's ADHD is to blame here that 100% means he's never given a shit about the game and is just phoning it in but then turns around and blames the game for himself not paying attention.

I love how Arin complains about how linear the experience of OoT is, but when he plays it, he doesn't take any advantage of the freedom it does give him as he plays. He has almost minimal hearts and golden skultulla rewards from the lack of exploring. I'm watching the video and they passed the Fire Temple, and he didn't even pick up Din's Fire yet? Like the horse entirely can be skipped so I'm surprised he bothered even and didn't just cross the bridge with the longshot. The horse helps get the biggoron sword and stamina management saves time, and lets you jump obstacles (like getting to Gerudo Valley early), it also makes the racing more engaging, which they already did, and he failed there too. He complained this game just brought over items from the past Zeldas so the game doesn't utilize them effectively with its Z axis, yet he refuses to take advantage of these items during combat outright. He never uses the bow to kill Keese or other enemies and always uses the really slow Hookshot despite having full arrows all the time and the game dropping them constantly. He walked along the bottom of the lake forever, but did he go fishing and get those rewards? Did he try the horseback archery challenges? Thing is, almost nobody would care about how Arin plays the game if he didn't blame the game so often. He often responds to criticism by saying something along the lines of "Well excuse me for playing the game to have fun and not just do everything perfectly and get to the end as fast as possible or whatever." Problem is that IS how he's playing the game. If he's whining about things while playing, then he's not conveying to the audience that he's having fun. He seems like he's playing this game to just rush to a goal, like he's not exploring much or taking in the dialogue. He's playing it like a linear and straightforward game and ignoring the freedom it gives you in combat and exploration, and how rewarding both can be. So yeah, don't be surprised when you complain and people correct you and suggest things to make you enjoy the experience more properly. He can play it however he wants, but he seems to be playing it a way that contradicts how he wants the game to be played by himself. Think of each fight as a puzzle and find the fastest and safest way to solve it. Take the time to explore the game and accept the rewards it has for you to use to help you later. Assess your surroundings properly and experiment with what will help you advance after finding all the available clues. Have fun. Etc. On top of that, he mentioned combat and exploration being separated when before they were the same process, yet he never fights without z targeting, which you can, and when fighting multiple enemies, the game encourages because it is how you swing your sword horizontally. Most people also used the spin attack without z targeting to get a better view of the surroundings while you charge and release.

Ah I love the "It's comedy" crowd who think that diffuses the criticism from viewers. Somehow you put in less work than the supposed haters having unlimited ammo to dunk on Arin

Having sat through this entire video...no, there isn't a single valid criticism of this game in it. It's simultaneously too easy, too hard, too linear, too labyrinthine, offers way too much advice, requires a walkthrough to beat the majority of the dungeons... It boils down to one simple fact: Arin isn't good enough for Ocarina of Time. Not good enough to criticize it, not good enough to play it. DSP has a better showing with Zelda games, and he plays them blind! Jesus fucking fuck. How does this guy have fans?

So this is what a "try not to lose your shit" challenge on youtube would look like... Jokes aside, that was truly painful to go through, and I loved how even the author is losing his shit as the video goes XD

I watched the entire video, this was fantastic. The best part was the first Dan burn at 18:25.

Honestly I kinda wish GG would stop doing single-player content. They boil down to Arin being so disinterested in what he's doing that he's barely playing the game while Danny watches like a bump on a log and tries to keep the energy up with quips while lampshading Arin's pointless rage. Their BEST videos at this point are their multiplayer or VS videos, which is what I kinda hoped GG would have been from the start with FAR more regularity. They play off of one another's dynamics, goof around, and, the best part, they're both playing a video game instead of it being Game Grump + Couch Grump. At the very least, they should be trading the controller back and forth so we can see them both mess around with single-player games.

The Phoenix Wright bits are my favorite by far.

Inattentive gameplay and bad humor . Why do people like Game Grumps again?

I think a major reason Arin has so much difficulty with this game is that because he assumes he's an expert at the game by virtue of having played it multiple times, causing him to not engage with the game and ignore dialogue boxes and major mechanics that would massively help him. This isn't helped by the fact that first played this as a kid, where he likely spent hours making very little progress and not understanding how things work like how most kids play games. So his foundational knowledge of the game is very shaky at best.

I'm... I'm 15 minutes in, and I'm going to get brain damage from all these facepalms I've been subconsciously giving myself. I'm glad I waited for you to make this and didn't watch this on their channel, or I'm sure my comments full of frustration and rage would be in this. Goddamit Arin.

2 years later and this is one of if not the best TIHYDPs ive ever seen. Editing was superb, comedy was on point, it never had a dull moment, and whenever Arin did something stupid you were always there to show us how it is done. I seriously hope you do more of these the past 2 almost 3 hours were magical.

I think the biggest tragedy to me on this playthrough is how tainted Danny's first experience with this game became the longer it went. I don't like to compare GG to Oneyplays but I can't help but notice how similar Danny's and Julian's situation were with OOT. Both haven't played the game and are discovering through others. The mayor difference is Julian was able to enjoy the mysticism and whimsy of the game by Chris and DD. But while Danny trys to do the same in this playthrough, most of the time is shot down by Arin's complaining on the game or comments, and it feels he becomes to more wary not to step on Arin's toes. It really is a shame because it feels Danny's so open and interested in the game in the beginning of playthrough.

It's not just constant attacking.
