Olga, you are a true professional !! I can only say that I hope very much you've monetized your Web presence so that you're making money from providing all this brilliant information to we ignorant amateurs ! Thank-you from the heart, you clever and generous woman !

Wow, thank you for your kind, supportive words. My channel is monetized, but it's difficult to make money on RU-vid. But thankfully, I am able to sell my patterns on Etsy. I have returning customers; people just seem to like my style of writing pattern. I also take crochet commissions in my community, and that greatly helps too. I'm just very grateful and happy that I can earn a living (though a frugal one) through my crochet work.

Excellent. After 48 years of crochet, I'm delighted to learn a better technique. It's satisfying to see the beginning of a row double crochet as I've been using that forever and love the look.

I'm trying to remember when I learned to crochet this way, but I can't remember. My mom taught me to crochet when I was a child. Did she teach me this way or did I figured it out on my own? I can't tell. But it's definitely one or the other because there was no RU-vid back then, and crochet and knitting was taught from a person to person.

It’s always wonderful to learn something new…I’ve been crocheting for almost 60 years…doing DC the traditional way. I really like the uniformity of the stitches when you complete them the way you’re demonstrating. I will certainly be trying this new way. DC is my favorite and fastest stitch… will definitely take some getting use too!!! Thank you for sharing!!! Will be getting plenty of practice using the attached sweater tutorial. Stay safe and be blessed ❤

I guess I’m not “most”:people because I learned how to crochet by passing the hook into the back of the loop, so as to attach to a single stand of yarn. It’s very fast, but very loose, but the stitches shrink down into place after a couple of washings and you can’t tell the difference. It’s good to see the difference. I appreciate knowing so now I can choose. Thanks so much!

That's a great tip too, thank you so much for sharing. I think many crocheters are very "conservative" and prefer to stick with the basics they were taught and not really venture into experimenting or learning new things. But it's by experimenting and learning that we can advance our craft.

I try to avoid double crochet whenever possible, i simply dislike the huge gaps and feel it looks amateurish. However, this technique has a tighter weave and straight lines that is very pleasing to the eye. Thank you!! I’ll be using this for sure. Your tutorials are wonderful

I appreciate you sharing this knowledge so much. I tend to avoid projects that use row by row double crochet because it looks... Well it looks awful, imo. I tried your way and it does slow me down a bit and the fabric actually turned out slightly wider but it's a fair trade off to have a much better, much cleaner looking design in the end. Thank you bunches! ❤

I’ve been crocheting for 25 yrs and there’s always something new to learn. Fantastic tip. Olga, it looks like it is much easier to see the hole where you put your stitch under the V the old way. I wonder if people were taught the old way because it’s faster..??? Do you find that your new way is slower since it looks like it takes a minute to find where to put your hook in? It’s not as easier to see your hole. I am definitely going to try this. Thanks for your insight.
@OlgaPoltava
@OlgaPoltava 5 месяцев назад
Yes, it's definitely easier to make a dc inserting the hook under the "v". But it might take a bit of more effort to do the way I showed. I've been crocheting this way so long, that now I'm so used to it, and it comes just as easily as making a dc under the "v". So I guess it's just a matter of practice and repeating.

Dear Olga, this is helpful again, i try to crochet like this, since i found your channel. Sometimes its difficult für me, when i use dark colors or thicker wool. But it looks really much better . I have a question: maybe you can teach us about the yarngroups ? Which number stands what for, and what is to do ,when on the banderol its no Information about the yarngroup. I think this a for many crocheter interesting .i have often this Problem when i like to start a new Projekt, what yarn and needle could be the best. I know you have a Video about this still on your channel, but i would like to know much more about this. Thank you dear Olga and many greats from germany
@OlgaPoltava
@OlgaPoltava 5 месяцев назад
Hi! I'm so glad to know you've been crocheting this way. But you are correct, depending on yarn and hook, sometimes it can be challenging. I remember I crocheted a shawl with fine mohair yarn and a large size hook. And it would be very difficult to crochet this way, so I simply worked under 2 loops or the "v". That's a great idea for a future video; thank you for suggesting. I'll give it some thought!

I started making my dc's this ways over a year ago from watching you teach it this way. I love how my projects look now. It is a complete game changer. Is this how it was originally done and we lost the technique or is this an upgrade from the original way?

What a great tip! I’m going to start doing the doubles correctly. Is it the same for singles, trebles, etc?
@OlgaPoltava

For trebles it will be the same. But if you work single crochets this way, you will get the waistcoat stitch (I actually have a few videos about that).

Interesting! It must have a big influence on the gauge, don't you think?

Actually yes, making dc this way creates a more dense fabric. This is something I forgot to mention in the video.
