Welcome to FPV links! ELRS has achieved 100KM Loved seeing your excitement about ELRS. And to think that ELRS was gifted to the community from a small group of pilot developers. They totally upended the market and gifted it for free to everyone, and broke the strangle hold that the manufacturers had on us.

Love that Radiomaster finally made a surface radio with EdgeTx. When i got into drifting I 3D printed a pistol radio shell for the Qx7 and ran EdgeTx and ELRS and it was great! got lots of attention at the track but then made the switch to Futaba for the on radio tunning. EdgeTX actully supports user written scripts that can do telemetry over the air link. so if anyone can crack/reverse engineer the futaba/acuvance protocol, we could get tunning on radio in EdgeTx as well.

ELRS, at 100mW, was tested for up to 30km in clear line of sight, and then the pilot had to return because the video cut out. The link itself had way more range still. And there are nano ELRS modules with 10 times the power. And it's not just a long range link, it's got some nice performance as well. Everyone in the drone hobby has been losing their minds over it for the last three years because it's just that freaking good.

I am so excited for this radio. I've been using Radiomaster and ELRS for a few years now with my multirotors and I am so happy Radiomaster has come out with a surface radio with a Nano Module bay. I've pre-ordered the 4-in1 MT12 and will be able to slap on my ELRS external module and get 2000mw (2 watts) of transmit power instead of the stock 250mw transmit power from the internal transmitter hahaha. It's so overkill for surface stuff but hey, maybe I wanna slap on one of my DJI video transmitters to a basher and do some FPV on the ground lol. As for your (accurate) observation on the complexity of the EdgeTX OS, and for anyone who might be a little intimidated, I would say that it is 95% programmed out of the box and the last 5% is all easily found in the manual or online. But instead, the real complexity is more like all the extra stuff after 100% that you never have to mess with if you don't want. Thanks for the great overview of the radio and as a new subscriber, I look forward to checking out the rest of your content. Finally to end this long winded comment I'll just say it warms my heart to think of this radio as a little bridge between the ground and air (multirotor at least) hobbies. I'm always trying to get friends who fly to also do some driving and friends who drive to do some flying so these 2 hobbies continue to expand and thrive!

I have a tx16s since release, finally knowing that both ground and air have the exact same programming menu is so great, that mean that you can look at a tutorial to set fancy function for an air radio and replicate the same thing. You don't have to wait 1 year for community's to create tutorial on how to do something, all of it is already available. One IMPORTANT point you missed is, you can get the 4 in 1 version(multiprotocol), while the range will become on par with other radio, you will be able to bind to about everything air/ground/banggood foam plane/Futaba/Flysky/Spectrum.

@@RoadsideRC Hey Troy, ELRS does not work with crossfire modules. The drone guys will know this but there are several protocols the signal goes thru. In this case the remote talks to the radio module in the Crossfire protocol. The radio module then talks to the receiver in the ERLS protocol, then in a drone the receiver would talk to the flight controller in crossfire protocol but in the car receivers its just pwm signals for the servo/esc. This is similar to Futaba is sbus2 from remote to radio, then FHSS or F4G over the air then back to sbus2 and pwm at the receiver

I would love to know the latency difference between the 4&1 model vs the ELRS. For someone that already has a ton of RC vehicles with receivers installed it seems the 4&1 would be the better choice for just regular line of sight driving as it can bind to pretty much every receiver in the industry. Then you wouldn’t need to buy all new receivers for every vehicle and if you want to do long range you always have the ability to add the nano ELRS module. The one thing I really like about the ELRS is the fact the receivers all support telemetry right away. Plus the nano ELRS module can do 1000 Mw so you would get even better long range performance with the module vs the built in version. What are people’s thoughts on the two radios.
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 6 месяцев назад
After my experience, I actually 100% agree with you! Getting the 4in1 and adding the ELRS module is much smarter. I just made the wrong choice when initially purchasing. I do have the 4in1 module for mine coming, so will be interested to see how it does.
@ethrrr
@ethrrr 6 месяцев назад
Elrs is 1000hz at its finest mode, and protocols from 4in1 module are most likely less than 100hz... it's not bad. It is going to be, at least the same latency, as with your previous radio, with the same receiver. I fly fpv, and there is a redpine protocol included in the 4in1 module, and it's very fast also. 4in1 and a cheap elrs(or diy) module, for me is the best way too :) There's also a gemini elrs module..and its simply brilliant, paired with a diversity receiver, range and consistency are going to be extremely good.
@dana2750
@dana2750 6 месяцев назад
@@RoadsideRC I think I’m going to order the 4&1 to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible. If I didn’t need 10 ELRS receivers I would definitely go with the ELRS version from the start. I hope they come out with a regular receiver that supports telemetry as I think it would be useful with my boats.

It took for ever to set up the MT10 due to the TX16S being primarily for aircraft. I figure probably not but can't hurt to throw it out there. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and Thanks in advance for your time and support on this matter. Worse case, I'll find my way around the MT12 and figure it out!

Came to surface RC from qwadcopters, been using expressLRS for three years and it is awesome. OpenTX development branch hasn't had many updates in a long ol' time, most of us have flashed EdgeTX to our tx's, offers some big benefits and will flash to that there radio master. @RoadsideRC when I switched from flysky to futaba the super slowmo camera on my phone was enough to see the difference in input delay. I just filmed both the front wheels and the steering wheel at the same time and wiggled the steering back and forth.
@sscobrapride
@sscobrapride 6 месяцев назад
Youll never see it. Flysky teased different protocol support over 2 years ago for the NB4 pro version only. That was 3 firmwares ago. Id assume futaba/sanwa proprietery programming protocols arent easily interacted with. If anyone will do it, its flysky as it benefits them the most by having cheap and readily available recievers directly on amazon. I keep my 4pm plus for gyd550 programming, i move the r334sbs reciever to the car to dial my gyro, and then plug back in the flysky reciever and go back to ch3 gain only on the 550 after my adjustments are made. When your up to 10 drift chassis, thats 1200 dollars in recievers, its less than 300 on flysky with the same response time as futaba.@@RoadsideRC

@@RoadsideRC I think the best way to do so would be to record using a phone that has a slow motion capture, turning the wheel and then letting it go, counting the frames between letting go and the servo starting to move. Otherwise you would likely need special equipment. I have found a video where someone tested the ELRS system with a tool and found it to have about 2,5-5ms of latency in F1000hz for transmission and 400hz for PWM. Thats about as fast as a Sanwa MTS running in SHR mode. With upcoming firmwares we might even be able to use SSR mode servos; Futabas SBUS servos already seem to be supported and should have even lower latencies.

Oh brother wait till you learn what EdgeTX can do. You can set channel one to be any input you like. So you can set turn on 1 in about a second. Each ELRS tx and rx has a built in wifi chip. Most people running ELRS build the firmware for their rx, it has the option to set a binding passphrase( think wifi password) that gets built into your firmware. So when you get a new rx that you have built the firmware for you simply flash the rx over wifi, a cell phone works great and now that rx will bind the moment it sees your receiver. On the computer side you can backup and reconfigure the radio. So even if you hit the limit of cars for the radio. You can have as many cars as you want just load back the configs for the cars you are driving. Even better is if you run the same config for two different models you can just use one saved slot. A bunch of the drone guys setup one basic config and run it on multiple drones. Using the 'model' for different configs not different models. The rabbit hole goes really deep here.
