No, it's an attempt to be cordial, even if the committee holding the nomination hearings have been pointedly hostile. Putting the nominee on the defensive is a good approach if you want to make the potential archivist wary of the "appearance" of partisanship, if, say, someone were to decide to pack up a stash of documents on their way out of office. Shit, he pretty much said as much. To treat the removal of documents from the White House upon leaving, especially in the context of the events that occurred during the interim between the election and Trump's exit isn't "nitpicking". Even if you believe that the loyalists like Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz and so on are on the "right" side, this is a dangerous attitude to take, and if there are no direct consequences from it, as we just assume no ulterior motives (but, seriously, come on. You have to be dismissive of any of the peculiarities of that whole transition...a lot of pretty blatant) you have now established that there is a viable plan of attack for destabilizing the country... you signed off on it.

My dog tags still wont melt in jet fuel, 22 yrs later. I've also had two kids science questions for 17 yrs, no one can or will answer. I don't need anything 'declassified'. The only secrets are the ones that keep themselves. At the library, I can learn more than what others claim is hidden.

I think it's supposed to work like that but it doesn't in practice for whatever reasons. A good example is the invisible ink. The U.S military was last using it during WW2 and that ink information wasn't declassified until the 2010's even though you could buy your own in a hobby shop. So much is classified I.E an excuse the agencies use to not disclose information to the public and be transparent.
