Kansas continued to surprise us as we left Topeka and headed West toward Lake Scott State Park. There were plenty of sites open during the middle of the week, so we didn’t have any issues getting a full hook up site last minute.
This state park is an oasis that pops up in the middle of nowhere Kansas and has so much to do right inside the park. There are multiple historical sites in the park including an old homestead that you can tour with an appointment at the front desk. We checked out some of these historical sites on a hike one evening after Corey made pacanha on our smoker, and we got to use our new Damascus chef’s knife that we made with Big River Forge for the first time. We chose Lake Scott as a place to stay, because it is a great launching point to check out Monument Rock. This hidden gem in Kansas is located on private property, but the owners allow people to come and enjoy the rock formations for themselves. It was the perfect place for sunrise and donuts, and the best part was that we had it all to ourselves!
