It´s all about respect. You are right! But a warrior lives in ones heart. Martial arts is just a way to give some kind of structure into a possible fight. An old woman can be more warrior than a 120 kg young man :)
how can you respect this as a boxer? as a true hitter and true fookin fighter? this shit is nothing more than screaming like an idiot and punch like butterfly. Boxing is true warrior sport, not this flamboyant bs, you know which people participate in this stuff? those who are afraid of real fight, but still want physical competition.
@@harshadakashyap9474 i think it helps starting when younger to get over the fear of falling/ being thrown. But i'm sure there are things even at my age I can learn so yes you are right😄
I love this Olympic Karate theme song, it got that classical-traditional-oriental vibe mixed-up with modern techno music feel, it never gets old whenever I watch and listen to it...
@@roguelock7125 "belt color" is an inaccurate way of measuring experience since the color order can differ in different places. Instead you should prbly ask what kyu they are since that's just a number. Also mcdojo's exist so a 9 year old could be a black belt so dan is prbly the most accurate measurement 😂
Karate has always been a strange yet interesting martial art to me. I have done MMA, BJJ a bit of boxing and a bit of kendo and fence. Every time I always meet a good guy in these martial arts who have done karate and show me some really cool stuff even though they are unrelated. Congrats into getting into the olympics and best wishes to all practitioners competing at the highest levels :)
Here I thought people who practice martial arts are more humble and appreciative of other people. Didn't expect them to tear each other apart on a youtube comment section.
I never do, either. I'm a brown belt in a Japanese Ju Jutsu form, but there are always "those" practitioners who want to turn everything into an argument. This is counter to what both my Sensei and I believe, and while I admit I have my own bias, I always try to respect others even if they have none for me.
There's nothing wrong with participating in the Olympics, old school or new school it doesn't matter, one can participate in the Olympics to represent their country and not everything in the martial art world is about uncivilized physical confrontations.
@@ravenironside3274 You sing one thing, and they are happy to represent their country.. But the Olympics are a lot of money and a result. All the basic techniques, honing the rack, hands, and so on, become unnecessary, everything is reduced. For the championship, they take out fights that also bring me to a light touch and so on.. Just use the whole style. And for uchastnivok remains one thing, or debts etrnnirovkr bodies for life or working out for order to win fights on these pseudo rules. Look at the Taekwondo cockfights, it's disgusting to watch..
So Happy to hear karate is going to be part of the Olympics. The empty hand way means so much more than fighting without a weapon, it also can mean emptying one's self of preconceived notions. The west coast AAU has been trying get this to happen for so long. I'm so overwhelming glad to see this happening in my lifetime.
But it's a one time deal. Its already been kicked out of the 2024 games and doubtful it will be back in 2028. As of this moment Australia is the only country kind of interested in the 2032 games.
Everyone’s is talking about how Karate is not a sport and you only have to move your arms and legs.Well I have something for you.People devote their lives to this beautiful sport and it is not just fight it’s a life style I know how cheese that sounds but it is the amount of respect Karate has shown me its unreal i could not imagine not having Karate in my life and I think I would not even be as close of a good persons as I am right now.
It's not a sport and I say that because I respect karate. Sport karate fails to uphold the purpose of karate for being a philosophy, art, and self-defense training. There is no point in this "sport" existing. These are not kumites and do not fall in line with the principles on which karate was created. As you said, it's a life style. It is not a sport. Martial arts are inherently not sports, definitionally.
Rika, undisputable karate queen. Now she is Japan national team kata coach. Hope to see her on the tatami side next year. Rafael, an everlasting champion, a good boxer, judoka as well as karateka.
Let’s go! Karate is one of the greatest sports in history! It takes more levels of skill, determination and diligence than many other sports! These athletes deserve high levels of respect ✊
Lio L did I say anything about losing weight? No I didn’t think so! It’s still a sport even if it’s budo! Ok I’m sure we don’t have to argue any further.
Please stop hating against the athletes. They put alot of effort to refine technique to their levels and have lots of merit for doing so. Karate is ONE. The same for everything. The only thing that changes is how you use it.
Uff... I know, but it sometimes feels like the abuse the rule setting to get away with stupidities that wouldnt work otherwise, and then they are glorified for it, and it's... odd. Would have put bigger camera angles and less cuts on the Usami shots, to see clearer what she does. She's already amazing, I dont get why they cut her shots on a dozen short pieces instead of just less longer pieces.
Got you feelin. I once left a sensei because her only goal was to gain medals. And i did after achieving four of them on my first tournament. Was hard to do. But i HAD TO. My focus is on martial way of view but i simply don't feel right with those guys sayin bull about the athletes down in the comments. Isn't fair.

I love martial arts very much, I was a black belt of Karate Shotokan, but due to a problem in my right knee I stopped practicing, however I am happy that in 2020 it is finally represented in a way worthy of the Olympics, maybe it is not the best method of self defense, as boxing or mma or kick boxing, but Karate has an elegance that fascinates me, good luck to all athletes 👍👍👍👊👊👊

This is SPORTkarate. Athletic Sharp Impressive But one dimensional. I'll still be watching - but it will never be the karate I practice. Sober, traditional and endless in its possibilities.
It can seem that way to someone who doesn’t train in it. It was put into the olympics because it is a sport and competitive style of karate and at this point is the most logical. If people find this entertaining and it is not removed for 2024 ( that has already been considered) they more types of karate would probably be involved.

I have over 40 years in the study of Shotokan Karate, with Karate as a demonstration "sport" no issues at all. Yet if it becomes a full Olympic Sport I am sure the competing karateka will abide by the "rules" and do their best. My concern is who will be qualified to judge kata or kumite ? In the past, Olympic judging has had its moments when either they were not familar with the sport or worse,... ?? I guess we will all have to wait and see. Oss !

Full contact _competitive_ fighting, there is also semi and full contact competitions, but are less common. And yes, is absurd to hate this or any other martial art or discipline for such a thing
Esteban Sandoval its absurd to hate any martial period. Every single style has strengths and weaknesses. Its elitists like the person above you that ruin the martial arts world.
I competed succesfuly in that style for 13 years and it made me hate karate for a while. Later on I understood that it wasn't karate at all and gathered all the opposite values (pride, lack of respect, greed, selfishness...) A friend of mine introduced me to kyokushin karate and I train for 10 years now. Made me realize that if your karate isn't tested with full-contact, then it is dancing, nothing more.
@@bardbollocks there are way MORE kyokushin fighters who used his style to win in kickboxing and MMA compared to traditional styles whose ONLY real fighter was Lyoto Machida.
I studied kyokushin for 10 years and also felt I wasted my time with it. Sure I learned all those values and to endure pain mostly but just to have it proven in full contact is nonsense. Don’t forget how many kyokushin fighters lost when they started in k-1 I also cross trained during that time with kickboxing and feel for the stand up game those two combined were great. But just that is still crap so now I do wrestling and grappling to complete myself
You confuse karate with ideology. You're a tool if you don't know the difference. If you became a shit human being after you stopped studying karate, it was because you're a shit human being. Nobody's fault but yours. Grow a sack, you pussy.

The focus is on character building and group think. 🔴 Karate is a complete, lethal method of mind, body, and spirit fitness, used for street self defense against multiple criminal attackers
When I heard Karate was going to be in the Olympics I got excited. I should have known it would be this. I wanted Kyokushin but I get the jumpy-screaming version instead.
@@mertelmas.1 Evidently not. My knowledge of the many different forms of Karate is limited but this appears to be either some derivative of Shotokan or just general point karate. The sad thing is that this is basically the same thing as Tae Kwon Do only with more shouting and posturing. If they wanted to they could have adopted a format based on Kyokushin instead and that at least would have offered more variety to the average viewer.
Did both Kyokushin and Shotokan back in Japan in the 90's and to be honest Kyokushin have little chance to be an Olympic Sport. Their fight competitions are not meant to be a "sport" where everything is fair and balance, they even lack a weight category (at least back in the 90's) Kyokushin tournaments are, if anything, feats of strength. That and point karate is way, way more spread in the world. If you want to see a good fight between Shotokan and kyokushin look for horiguchi vs Tenshin on youtube. Pretty good fight.
@@mrgsudo I'm fairly certain they have weight categories now. And if they can make Boxing an Olympic sport I'm sure they could do the same with Kyokushin. Thanks for the recommendation I'll check it out.
I practised Shotokan for about 10 years, then abandoned it for muay thai and jiu jitsu. I will never, ever go against anyone who says it teaches discipline and control. However, I lost every single drop of respect I had for my seniors back then when I started sparring against experienced strikers and grapplers. Having a brown or black belt instills a false sense of confidence, almost like “I won’t try to start a fight with you, but I promise you don’t want to start one with me.” That shit was engraved into my being, right up until I got knocked the hell out and choked like the victim of an anaconda. Then came the overwhelming feeling of being humble. Respect really can’t be taught, sometimes it literally needs to be knocked into you.

Karate is an evolving art. There are multiple aspects of it. You can't say its "fight" and not "sport". You can't tag something as normal or sport. There is something for everyone. This isn't for you.
Sultan Beibarys Normal Karate is not a sport. Sport Karate is only a portion of karate. Normal Karate like how it has been taught in Okinawa for centuries is what is the standard should be and it still is for practical Karate which is meant for combat.
It’s weird how many people are mad that the Olympics chose to bring in Karatedo instead of Karatejutsu and apparently it isn’t real karate. Shotokan is just as much about the philosophy and discipline that comes from mastering kata as it is from strengthening your senses and body from combat. It’s point sparring because it’s just as much about learning as it is about fighting, learning how to read a person in short bursts is the key to victory in any fight and in point, you might not always get hit in a deadly spot, but it lets you learn where you’re open so that when you’re in a fight you know your own weaknesses. People who complain about point sparring not being real karate is because they have no appreciation for martial arts, they have no appreciation for the mental battle present in each fight and the real ness of a single hit being able to kill you. These people just want to wail on each other, they want to do damage and assert physical dominance. Karate is about overcoming another’s will with your own using your mind and body. It takes only one fatal blow to kill someone, and so it takes only one opening to end a fight. Never forget that.
This is Shotokan Karate. A watered down version of Okinawan Karate for the sole purpose of pleasing the mainland Japanese, who is said Okinawan Karate was too dangerous. When the Sensei of Funakoshi (the guy who watered it down) found out it had to be watered down, his sensei and the other masters weren't having it and backed out from pleasing the mainland. I tried this style out for a couple of classes I was taught Kata(which is pretty necessary in most if not all karate) but not its bunkai (practicality) which bummed me out of the style. I mean If I’m going to learn a style at least teach me its real life application. The place I train was more focused competition Kumite and Kata than Self Defense or actual fighting. The conditioning was alright. Just your normal sports stretches, but nothing compared to Okinawan Karate conditioning. Where you end up injuring certain body parts, just for it to heal so you can have increased durability. You might end up having the ugliest hands in your neighbourhood, but at least your hands are tougher than literal wood or bricks, granted if you did your training well.
Training full contact, or at least semi-full is the way to go. I’d rather fight someone who did 20 years of conditioning than someone who did full contact training for 10% of that. Also, a martial art that had to be adapted because it’s “too dangerous”? *MY SIDES*
The problem is not Shotokan. Is the focus of your Dojo. Shiai Kumite is really watered. It's just the sport side. I practice Shotokan myself. My Sensei teachs the moves, their proper forms, names, and applications. When teaching Kata he always demonstrate 3 or 4 applications to each move. But there's also sportive Kumite training. I use this only to get better condition and help the other students that are interested in competition. Because I train for the 'Do' part of Karate-Do. In my Dojo we practice all Kata with strength to each move. And from Green belt to forward we have Jyu Kumite, that's is real fight without the WKF rules. (Here the belt color sequence is, white, yellow, red, orange, green, purple, brown, black). During our belt exams, we have at least 4 Dan s at the table. And at anytime they can ask for the name of a technic,l or a demonstration of a kata move application. So here if you don't now what you are doing you will not even get the first color. So the problem is not in the style. Is in the focus of your Sensei. Shotokan is not Light, and the objective is to react quick and end the fight with one precise and strong blow.
Sosai. Mas Oyama was never wanting kyokushin karate to be a sport. That is is true Budo. Whether it is kyokushin shotokan or any other type it must be full contact.
