Nigerians watching this need to get real, I'm nigerian and I think this is one of the best documentaries on lagos i've seen. And YES this is a fair reflection of the life on the average nigerian. well done to this dude.
Have to say too, that you have excellently managed to capture the truly awesome spirit of the average Nigerian in your documentary which I think is very important. Thank you.
I enjoyed every bit of the documentary. It portrays what our leaders have turned our homeland to but its still my home. I have lived in Lagos too and being out of the country I missed the energy of Lagosians. It was a real and it was meant to dispel the fear that when one lives in a place like this it is only crimes and evil one will experience, the people are real and true to themselves. I must say and Kudos to the people that put it together.
Good job really applaud u 4 a job well done, not letting any1 discourage u makes me respect n admire u even more. Watch this b4 n watching again tho it's been several yrs back 6yrs to b exact. There's been lots of improvements now, I resides in US visited last yr 4 my dad's burial, going again this yr with my daughter, her 1st . Thanx so much 4 sharing hope u visit Lagos again soon n b sure to check d middle n affluent areas like Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, Banana Island etc. You may not want to return back to England so quickly, if u visit some of this area mentioned.
From the Producer who made this film. We wanted to film in Victoria Island and met with a brick wall. The rich don't trust cameras. I was in Magodo just two weeks ago trying to film and my hosts nearly had heart attacks saying that because it is a wealthy area filming is not permitted. I managed to get a few shots before I my hosts asked me to stop. Its not us Nigerian filmmakers who don't want to make films that show all sides of Lagos but the fact is that the less well of are more welcoming.
Good job Jamie, but you should have visited the Nigerian "garden of eden" I'm talking of places like ikoyi, lekki, Victoria island, banana island and other very beautiful places like that. Places where you would feel like you are still in Cambridge, places where you would drink better water. Lol
I think he did a great job! I was smiling the whole time. Lagos forever! I like that he did not just go and do this documentary in VGC somewhere....he gave voice to our brothers and sisters that are on their hustle but still doing their best to make the best out of life. There is nothing wrong with showing that! Is it a lie? Are they not our peeps? Do everyday people who live in one room apartments get higlighted in ovation?
Hi Jamie, good job, well done. This is dated now really, but still very valid to some extent. Pls kindly return to Lagos if it is within your means, hopefully with a HD cam this time and visit other parts of Lagos preferably the mid/upper class areas as well as the ghettos which you already visited. I think this would give your viewers a wholesome perspective of what Lagos really is like. BTW, hope u still in touch with the girl with the Afro pops (Nike?) she's really cool, I really do think u guys suit each other. She likes you. All the best bro. Take care.
i think this is an amazing piece of documentary, even though there are many beautiful places in Lagos that could have been shown in the videos...i feel this really shows a true reflection of this wonderful city.Even though the government don't provide enough.I think the development of the state is all due to the Human resources; the people and their positivism and optimism even in toughest times of their lives. The hunger of success is in every Lagosian. That is why they say a Lagosian can survive any where in the world and be successful.
tuforu4 well, they do....Major roads and areas are cleaned. The problem is just that some areas are neglected and the government don't do enough in maintenance of other less privileged areas.
You are so right, rich Nigerians are boring, they just copy what is on TV, no genuineness. I am from a rich Family and I see the okpats and foolishness people do for status and levels. At one point there was no city and eventually we all came from rural areas not poverty. This couple are not poor because they have rich minds full of dreams, all a man needs is a why and he will reach his dream no matter his starting point. Well done Jamie, even Nigerians haven't done this.
Nigeria have a bad see in the world and if people see the rich area, they say that the family are taking for the people and not doing a lot and they in oil. i see how bad thing are say about that kind of area. people and friend start ok and then over to that kind of area. they work for the bottom and save and then did open they work for they self. we use to use lamp and rant a small house. he did great. great film
Wow! Why are they so non trusting? :0 Seems hella weird to me. Other countries can't get enough of their rich and their rich love showcasing their riches.. Very weird indeed.
what annoys me about all these foreign students that go to Lagos, is that they are so keen to highlight the poverty, and nothing else. There is soo much more to Lagos than what you portrayed in this Documentary. This is just a small factor. He didn't even touch areas like Victoria Island. You leave people with a negative impression, which is untrue. There are many middle class and wealthy Nigerian who live BETTER lifestyles than their counterparts in England. Go figure.
i disagree with you, we have more middle class in nigeria then rich poor, a guy staying in one bedroom is not your average Nigerian, an average nigerian is one who stays in a flat has a car and looks good
Yea, if a country is going to be shown in a documentary, the good, bad and ugly should be shown to the audience. Of course people believe Lagos, Nigeria is poor, we think/know that already. Find a way to show the rich.
