Well done. Im born and bred in Cambridge uk and I love learning about different cultures, races etc. I admire how you've learnt and judged from you OWN experiences and not follwred others views. You seem very well cultured. I've enjoyed learning via your RU-vid videos. Thanks
Me and my husband ( me oyibo, him igbo) just watched this, and loved it! it made him home sick and just made me want to go and see it! Although it is quite old now, congrats to Jamie as he blew any preconceptions out of the water!!
Hi Jamie (and your filming team) I just watched your lovely documentary, and I just wanted to say thank you for uploading it. I lived in Lagos for over 5 months last year, and watching your movie just brought me back straight to the bubbling and thrilling atmosphere of the city. I can't believe you manage to meet Dudu, I am such a fan of his work. I hope you managed to go again and stayed a little longer, Lagos is the city where discovery almost never ends. Cheers to you!
Trust me, as a documentary filmmaker I would love to shoot a whole series on Nigeria. In spite of its numerous problems which we are all so familiar with, Nigeria is a remarkable country. Its undiscovered history alone makes such a programme worthwhile.
wonderful videos have enjoyed them. I have spent approximately 2 months in Lagos total and a couple weeks between Port harcourt and Abuja.. Nigeria is a land with so much beauty and Diversity. Some day I plan to live there with my wife from Oke-Odo Lagos. If My wife and children were with me on my last travels there I am sure I wouldn't have come back to Canada.
I think the documentary was very good, like others have said Jaime's Premise was to show and explore that side of Lagos that the" West fears" and is ignorant of, Its quite clear he had a good time, the people he met were warm, intelligent and inviting, anyone talking about he did not show the rich side, stop making a fuss, go watch any Nollywood film and look at the rich side of Nigeria. Better still those who felt he did not show the rich playboy side of Nigeria switch off you PC/Mac get a ticket and camera go home and produce your film and we will then have an alternative take on our beloved Nigeria. It should be easier after all you are sons and daughters of Nigeria whilst Jaime is a Oyinbo. But an insightful one.. Peace and love to one and all......
This is very impressive. As a Nigerian living here in America and knowing how the image of Nigeria has being portrayed negatively by the Western media, the Nigerians in this documentary are very commendable. They conducted themselves very well. Nigerians are not all criminals as portrayed by western media. We have our share of bad "apples" just like it is here in America and any other part of the world. In most cases, the average Nigerian is the most receptive individual you will ever meet.
I think the fact that he visited the poorer areas and had a blast proves that Lagos is bloody safe. It's like spending your time in NY in the south bronx and having just as good a time as if you stayed on the upper east side.
As the Producer/co-writer and cameraman on this film and as a Nigerian I have to answer this criticism that we only went to poor areas. We told the film characters to go wherever they liked and we would follow because we wanted them to show us their lives. So the places they took us are the places we went. We did attempt to shoot a scene in a hotel and a restaurant in VI and were bluntly refused. Apparently both places were worried about their image! But Lagos has changed, so we need a new film
I liked this documentary. Top notch makes me miss the country. I think a visit is overdue for Jamie and his team. He strikes me like Louis Theroux kind of documentary man.
Hey Jamie, Loved your video, although it kinda made me feel home sick. I think people like you are rare, cos not many people will wanna learn about another person's culture. It will be really awesome if you do another documentary on Lagos(mega city); believe me you will not recognize the city you visited 7 years ago.
I don't even get why people are criticizing this film. Let's be real, 85% of what we watched here is what Lagos really is. These are your typical/normal neighborhoods/streets of Lagos. Island does not represent Lagos, it's merely a fraction of the city, so kini big deal? Not showing it did not made/break this film, the objective of the film was to show that Lagos isn't a violent/terrible place for foreigners to visit and Jaime (and his team) executed that mission, and tastefully so if I may add.
Lagos has ghetto, middle class and upper class neighborhood. I have lived in Lagos, Canada and USA . so to visit only ghetto areas and upload it as Lagos , is truly misleading of Lagos as a city.
I think that the middle/upper class doesn't have time for interviews and tv crews, the poor area is more easy to get people to talk to you....That's just what i think, for those complaining about the area shown in the video. But then, what you see in the video is real! only that it does not represent the whole Lagos.
your right and if you show then most will be bad mouth and i know some of them they some start for the bottom and some are like that. the film it good how it is. some people thing it all on oil but i know people that get they without. but it we all be the some. watch young and rich in Nigeria and read the comments and you know what am say. like your comments
EXACTLY. He stayed in poorer areas. He didn't see the other side of Lagos. This documentary is good, but it is not a real portrayal of Lagos. Its just the poorer parts. Its like me going to London, and doing all my research about 'Peckham'
its surprising he visitied the not so good areas, i think he should visit the middle class or upper areas too to get a balanced perception on things, nigeria can be very relaxing..
Hey dude, u should have visited island too. Not showing all the bad areas in Lagos. You should have shown the good too areas too, the documentary would have been best if you did. Well thanks for taking the courage to visit. Heard yho sis. saying some shits about Lagos, hop she change's her mind and visit someday. Am proudly Nigerian but living in that UK. One love.
This is not all about Lagos. How about the beautiful places, Hotels ( Sheraton, Hilton, FourPoints e.t.c) multinationals and foreign firms office locations like McKinsey, KPMG, PricewaterHouseCoopers, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Microsoft, Visa, MasterCard, Delta, Shell, Agip, British Airways, Citi Bank...the list goes on and on. I think this whole documentary is bias and very misleading, all in a bid to paint a wrong perception about Lagos and its people.
yeh but we not want to go to africa to see international brands,we worry about security and meeting ordinary folks,.,.we not all rich in europe so we want lo cost holidays in africa to see culture,
tuforu4 @now lets have this conversation. I don't know where you live, but the truth is that every country has its security issues. Ofcouse, you can meet ordinary people in Lagos. I used to live in Lagos and every weekend we go out freely. If you guys will just stay out of our politics, Africa, including Lagos will be a better place. You are talking about security, when you are the reason for insecurity in Africa. This young man produced a misleading and biased documentary and we should be sincere enough to call a bad job a bad job.
Kebbi2000 i do not know why i am to blame for insecurity in africa. we see lots of vids about nigeria and nothing to impress a tourist to go there. My friends were working there for engineering companys and they were not happy to say the least,,,,,. but the young people we see on vidoes seem amazing,.
