Oilers getting a young center like Savoie has me asking myself why not us

Unless a great deal comes up for a young center I would prefer the Flames stand pat and wait to see how training camp plays out. Maybe one or two of our prospects might make the team. Plenty of time to make moves during the season

I really like the idea of MvGroraty for the flames. I know a few jets fans who really like this guy's potential.

Not sure I would want any of those guys tbh. For the forwards we have Matt Coronato who we hope takes a RW job. Jake Pelltier on the LW. We could use one of the d'men maybe. Sidebar (lol): As for people getting all excited about EDM trading for young center Matt Savoie. To me the guy is no sure thing and there is no way he projects as a center in the NHL. He is only 5'9" and 175 lbs. He had great numbers last year in Jr., but should have, he turned 20 in January. He had nearly a PPG in the A, but so did Coronato over a larger sample size and was only drafted a year earlier. Just because Savoie went 9th overall doesn't mean he will be a star or even a regular. Makes me wonder why Buffalo gave up on him so early and for such a marginal return. It would be like us trading Parekh in two years. Inzayne. ;-)

I would go ape**** if we traded for mcgroaty, was my favorite player in college hockey last year and he could develop into a great two way player that could put up 60+ points consistently

I think Calgary is going to stink for a long time. There are going to be some dry years. But along with that comes the excitement and anticipation of building a winning team. What I don’t know is if the owners of the Flames are committed to building a winning team. I don’t know why a player wouldn’t want to play in Calgary but I guess if you have a choice between Florida or Alberta understand why a lot of players would choose the former. I’m a flames fan but don’t really like the make up of the team right now. It seems like Calgary is spinning their wheels right now. You need a bonafide star forward. I don’t see Calgary having a serious goal scorer anytime soon.

I hate the idea of trading any picks/ young assets. For these older young players. We need to fill the pipeline over the next 3 drafts. No assets for wins now. Younger and better okay, but remember depth wins cups! The Oilers didn’t get to the 4th round, with younger and better. They had depth. Florida won the cup with depth. There are 2 kinds of US players with connections to playing in Canada...Those of whom have left Canada or those of whom can't wait to leave. Calgary is a great city but Trudeau has destroyed all of Canada (Equally of course).
