Thanks Ryan. Yeah it was some added pressure from a time point of view but for me to try and explain the process in words alone would have made no sense.
Thank you sooooooo much. What a ripper of an episode. I start my new job next month so I will finally be able to jump on board and support you through patreon. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Vernon, inspiring video, excellent and mesmerising footage.. "... quit your job and buy a boat and sail there.. " ..yeah! Might just do that in 2022.. (bff & I) look into co-own.. it's exciting just contemplating that.. it is better to experience that with another, but life is better to share, with someone special .. 1 that wants to experience all the adventure and sea voyages to be had.. Ciao VW
Yeah for sure. I had 20 min of safe time to get it all done before I had to start thinking about getting the drone back. Would have been easier with 2 people for sure but I enjoy challenges. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely beautiful amazing place, mind blowing underwater video. Thanks for sharing lovely time of yours with Mother Nature. I wish mother bless us too with her love soon, the same as she did with you.
Was in Misool area one year ago and I totally agree, that this is an absolute stuning place and it makes me cry to see your video because I miss it so much, especially during this whole corona crap. DIscovered your videos some days ago. Great stuff, that remindes on better times.
Thanks for watching. I took me a while to figure it all out but once I had a system it wasn't too difficult. Thats what I love about solo sailing, you have to make things work somehow.
Mate, thanks again for such an awesome video. Easily my fave sailing youtuber by far. I love getting to see you explore all these different cultures and sharing with us
Thanks Donal. The exit out of the bay was pretty hectic but I thought it was worth it to put the drone up as it would be pretty hard to explain otherwise. It all worked out perfect.
Absolutely amazing! What a place - Misool!!! I love your videos - you are down-to-earth and have a refreshing way of sharing your experiences in epic places that I may never ever see.
Pristine reef, great underwater artwork ! Quality stuff. Thx for taking us with you on your adventure ! What are the noises at 3.15 mins ? and did you record them ?
As someone who has visited Raja Ampat(Kri and Mansuar) before I can imagine how special and breathtaking this place is, truly heaven on earth. Keep living the life and stay safe :)
Hi Vernon , this is Gerard we meet in Meti last year , awesome video , will add these islands to my list :) In now in sorong after spending 3 weeks in Raja Ampart , small world :)
Great video. I watched a BBC documentary filmed in Raja and they sent their drone up and discovered sea-lakes actually inside some of the islands. They scrambled over a dived them. So brilliant and a couple of degrees warmer than the open sea. Maybe you can find some and five them, only a handful of people on earth have done it. Also, I heard if you play music in the boat it attracts whales and dolphins. Keep rolling dude...you’re a legend.
Hi, yeah I've seen a few of those lakes from the drone. The water looks very dark so I've never been motivated to get in. Maybe next season I'll give it a crack
Sailing Learning By Doing Hi. Yeah go for it. The scramble over the rocks was tricky as they’re v sharp but seemed worth it as they reckoned they might be the first people on the planet to snorkel there. Amazing. Here’s the link to the BBC documentary with Gordon Buchanan. He’s a pretty decent nature filmmaker for the BBC. The Raja part of the film begins at 28:40. Hope you enjoy it. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0005wxg/equator-from-the-air-series-1-3-pacific If the link doesn’t work the program is called Equator from the Air. Episode 3.
quiting dayjob, bought boat!! and will visit it, just taged it on Google earth, thanks Mate. Did i tell you i got myself a 40ft wharram and going to spend next 2 years getting it ready to do same as you.
@@SailingLearningByDoing They had a b-day party for Kazza if I'm remember correctly. I'll see if I can dig it up later and link it for you. Loving the content, I'm so close to blowing up my life and buying a boat and going down a different path.
Do you have a SCUBA tank on board....for emergencies, like freeing the anchor from a bad snag in deep water? As you show, that is a tough area to keep a boat put, and off the rocks. Your Subs are growing quickly. Nice work.
HI Patrick. Nope, I dont have a scuba tank, maybe its something I should invest in. I can free dive to 25m if necessary and always put a trip line on the front of the anchor up to a float when over 20m deep. Thanks, yeah the solo sailing videos always seem to do well.
Heyy, i really like your videos, you really do have a talent for pictures and video. Inspiring stuff, its all about the adventure of life! Found your channel two weeks ago, and now i have watched from episode 71 until now. Guess i have to watch from the beginning now ;)
Wouw so much awe doing this by yourself, i have a small sailboat (6mtr) and sail solo. Parking, anchoring and leave again when youre by yourself is a huge challange, scares me every time.
Thanks for watching. Yeah its a challenge for sure but thats why I love it. Each new challenge gives you more experience and you then use that for future difficult situations.
Since you mention reading books I thought I'd mention a few great sea stories. Sea Wolf - Jack London, Lord Jim - Joseph Conrad, The Old Man and the Sea - Earnest Hemingway, Two Years Before the Mast - Richard Henry Dana, Shackleton's Incredible Voyage - Alfred Lansing, and the poem Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner by Coleridge.
@@SailingLearningByDoing I have been a great reader once upon a time and I used to love sharing what I've read, so here's some other stories. Dry Guillotine by Rene Belbenoit, a true story of a youth convicted of stealing in France and sent to Devil's Island off the coast of Central America. The book that Papillon was based on. Chilling, raw, amazing survival story. The Story of San Michel by Axel Munthe, just a great read. Crime and Punishment and the Devils by Dostoyevsky. Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Do you have any great reads you'd like to share?
Hi Vernon, I am no action camera expert, but just purchased an Akaso (mid to low end range). Been fairly impressed with its capabilities, comes with a waterproof case (good to 13m) that is quite robust but not too bulky, as the camera itself is not waterproof. If nothing else it would be a good backup option. From the corp blurb the company is trying to make a name for themselves, so may be worth contacting them?
Hi Vernon, if you don’t mind me asking, why the name Schiehallion? I only ask because it’s the name of a Munro in Perthshire Scotland that I am familiar with and not a name commonly used that I am aware of. By the why great vids, helping keep us land lubbers / arm chair enthusiast dreams alive.
Hey Sandy. The boat had the name when I brought it. The guy who built the boat named her as his son was at the time in Scotland studying and had just climbed up to the peak. Theres a little shield on the boat with a piece of granite from the peak.
Sailing Learning By Doing, there was a school there called Rannoch, on loch Rannoch, Schiehallion is close by. Do you remember the name, age, or other of whom you bought it off? Rannoch school bred some unique individuals. In my sailing days I met ex pupils from Germany in Fremantle WA and 1 from the Seychelles in the back blocks of Indo, just by coincidence. This is the first connection from sitting in my middle age arm chair! You have a special boat.
I love this video mate, i'm leaving from Montreal in June aiming for Jobi near Sorong. needles to say your videos are really of interest for me... keep at it rgds
@@SailingLearningByDoing yes from Montreal.. Azores Sénégal Brazil aronde south Africa Madagascar Indonesia as slow as possible without any time schedule lol i'm ready now the kids are grown
Another awesome video thanks for sharing your journey. What visa do you get for each visit to Indonesia, I know they have a rather strict policy if you wish to stay longer than 30 days
Cheers Rex. I think the visa I get is called a 211A. Its 60 days then 4 x 30 days extendable. 6 months in total. Its pretty easy to get at your local embassy before departure.
Pretty amazing on your own! And yes, I'd leave my day job and sell up in a flash - would need to get divorced first! And ... we're currently in lockdown in Sydney so can't leave our local area/city/country!
I have had good success with the cheapo Chinese HD Sports Cams with the Water boxes, got to have GoPros...but until one is comfortable doing aerial Vid, like Drones, there are less expensive options, then when ya get confident, then bring out the SPENDY GoPro. this footage is absolutely Top Shelf....and I did not know a Boat moves around that much in such a short time, the time it takes to fetch the Bowline.
Amazing video. How do you deal with the solitude? After awhile, doesn't it get to you? Would be easier with a mate? Or would they just get in the way? Does it take time to settle in the rhythm? Love your videos. I put 50.00 bucks in your crusing kitty! Enjoy my friend. Thank you for inspiring me.
Hi Allan and thanks for the great donation! I like the solitude. During winter I never get a moment alone(which I also enjoy) so when summer comes around I'm more than happy to slow everything down. 2020 season I'll be having company on the boat though. For actual sailing I find it much easier on my own as I can sail instinctively and not worry about others.
Hi Vernon, Listened to your podcast with David on the Ocean Sailing Podcast and you mentioned some chinese app for navigation. Can you please tell me the name of it? Cheers.
Next time, use a LONG rope so you can go to shore and back to the boat with it. If you do that you can stay onboard and loosen the tampers. That´s what I do.
HI Johan. Nah, that doesn't work down here. The rock is limestone and sharp like razors, you cant slide rope on it at all. I used plastic hoses as rope protection around the rock pillars.
Would you ever consider a Texan coming on board with you I'm experienced sailor actually own a Morgan 383 sitting in bahia del sol elsalvador on mooring right now if you're interested at all I'm game would love to sail in that part of the world thanks mate cheers from Texas s/v oceancowboy
whats the story of how to eat coconuts, is it that you can only eat/drink one per day because of the electrolyte load or being a diuretic or something like that?
Read some comments and I concur. The underwater footage is epic. I don't know how experienced you are, but you seem a judicious and apt learner, conformable and determined; sort of like Donald Trump. Hope we have fair winds and no propeller fails. But that's the rub, isn't it. Nevertheless, we need intrepid souls to forge on. Your engagement with the locals is gratifying. You show the advantage of logos, and the mysticism of raw nature. Such beauty; what are those red and white fish congregating around that pumpkin looking thing with purple fingers in its center?
