I remember when Ahmed’s picture, the picture of him dead on a beach, was splashed across new sites. Ppl felt pity for this one child but didn’t think about the ones whose pictures didn’t go viral. Or what caused him and children like him to be in those boats in the first place. Or why we hold these lines someone drew so long ago, as somehow more important then another human’s life. Many believe the war in Syria actually began bc of climate change. A severe drought worsened by climate change killed crops and made bread prices rise. This was the catalyst to long simmering anger. But even if it wasn’t caused by climate change it doesn’t matter. We as humans should care more about other humans lives more then what we think it might cost us. In the US I find the nativism even more gross. We defend this land we stole, from ppl fleeing situations that were often created by us, or at least worsened by our involvement. We created drug prohibition and forced other countries to go along with it. Mexico refused at first. They had someone in charge of public health who’d seen what alcohol prohibition had wrought in the US and knew what it would do to Latin American countries. But the US retaliated by cutting off the supply of legal opiates, pain medication. When the hospitals filled with burn victims and dying cancer patients screaming their agony, Mexico caved. In Honduras, we supported a military coup that has seen the executions of indigenous leaders. In Guatemala we supported a coup bc the company that sells Chiquita bananas didn’t like that the new President was going to return the land to the ppl. And these stories go on and on. The cartels supply us the drugs we want, they buy the guns we won’t regulate, and when the ppl come to our borders, fleeing what we’ve had a hand in creating, we treat them like sht. We put them in private detention centers, separate and cage their children, and if they manage to make it through our grueling immigration process, we look at them as other. Even as their labor and the tax revenue they create makes our lives easier. It’s galling. Our education system is underfunded and inadequate, often teaching jingoism at the cost of teaching our true history, the good and the bad. Bc of that and cultural reasons, we have a large population that’s proudly ignorant. The same ppl who actually believe the civil war wasn’t a direct result of slavery. (Even though it literally says it in the confederate manifesto.) Propaganda has become endemic. Many are just starting to see the effects here at home in incidents like Jan 6, or the shooting at the Walmart in El Paso. Having a sane conversation about the topic is often impossible. And omg, if you say you’re for the free flow of ppl and not just capital, they freak the fck out. Defending a system that crushes many of us as well. But ppl are often willfully stupid and it’s often impossible to point them in the direction of info as the distrust everything that doesn’t spoon feed them what they want to hear. Unfortunately bc of them and spineless politicians, It’s going to take a long fcking time before meaningful change can happen. Until then dead children and dead adults will continue wash up on beaches and the banks of the Rio Grande river.

As terrible as how common this is that people drown trying to flee there country to get to others, the problem is that alot of european countries facilities are failing now due to mass immigration, its happening here in the UK, the NHS is failed because of the pressure, people will say its down to funding issues, but its also a immigration problem, people also dont talk about if people are fleeing a war, they should be happy to arrive at the first safe country. But alot of them press on though eastern, then western europe to try and get to the UK, if youre fleeing for your life it shouldnt matter which country you go to, as long as its safe

He has a song with Brother Ali and Killer Mike called "Civil War" and he has a song with R.A. The Rugged Man called "Who do we Trust?" But Immortal Technique's most famous song, what he is most known for, and what is considered by many to be a masterpiece, is "Dance with the Devil". I've seen a couple reaction channels do that song. It's very well written but it's very dark.

That was hard to watch and I remember that incident of the kid was laying on the beach lifeless. There’s more being done about species being extinct but no same action for immigration reform. We need to do better.
When this was happening (it was a large number of refugees over a relatively short period) some of the comments made (by people in the UK, at least) would have boiled your fucking piss. The general sentiment of "well they should have stayed in their own country" etc. turned me so fucking cold to my fellow man. Sometimes I actually wish those with a privileged background were put in the same position. This world makes me so fucking sad.

I am glad you are mad about this. Ahmed deserved people being mad at the tragedy inflicted on him. We as a human species need to do better. We are all each others sisters and brothers, and we need to stop harming one another.
